    I 😘 your explanation and enthusiasm. You definitely love what you do and it shows. Your ideas have inspired me to plant the dwarf banana tree seeds belonging to my late dad I found cleaning out his home. I feel I owe it to him. He had plans and I'm going to make sure he has something to show for his passion. What a legacy and fond memories in the garden. I'll treasure them for life.

    Thanks for the tips and guide. Will give it a shot.

      You might get a few that sprout, but banana seed need to be planted soon after you get them. Sometimes sellers send old seed which don’t grow at all. keep them moist, warm and humid, with real sunlight in a bright window. Be patient, they may sprout soon.

      Hi dergici,
      I’m not sure about which varieties come true to seed, but if I had to guess, the bananas which produce edible fruit are probably going to be mostly or completely seedless.

    There is a natural soap called Miracle 2 Green Soap that has no chemicals, yet it is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and is highly concentrated so you don't need to use much with water. You can use it to clean anything in your house, any room, do your dishes and even take a shower with it to clean your hair and everywhere else. It can also be used on your perts for a flea bath and is completely harmless. It is also good to balance your ph level.

    • @TheBarefootedGardener
      @TheBarefootedGardener  Год назад +2

      Not at all, you can grow Musa basjoo or sikkimensis without winter protection, and a bunch of other ornamental varieties with protection (once established- plant in spring) in zone 8 there are even fruiting varieties, like ‘Dwarf Orinoco’ or ‘Namwah’. A south or East facing wall will offer protection for the species/ varieties listed as marginal in your zone.

    What kind washingtonia palm seed you have? I have washingtonia filifera and filibusta palm and robusta palms. I ordered them on websites. And I once collect the washingtonia palm and Texas sabal palm seed from San Antonio Texas and grow them and plant too small seedlings in full sun they die I learn lesson best grow them in pot til big enough to be h wss handle in full sun til I about plant washingtonia palms in my yard. I once tried banana palm from seeds none them live I make mistake I didn't soak them wait few days and wait til they grow. Maybe I will try again to start banana palm from seeds.

      Hey Frankie :) I have Washingtonia robusta and filifera, but not filibusta. Do they need light to germinate, what is the trick? That’s good to know about keeping them in shade, when young, but hopefully they sprout indoors before May, when they would go outside. That’s too bad the bananas didn’t work the first time, but I think you’ll be successful this time. :) I just got my Musa ‘Burmese Blue’ and they’ve been soaking for 2 days now. I’ll probably change the water tomorrow. They all sank immediately so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

      @@TheBarefootedGardener oh filibusta seeds on Ebay. No just seed tray normal moisture. My take about few days for washingtonia seeds to start. Yep I hope so. I wonder you don't noticed that other video commet about eucalyptus tree slightly root bound and die that what happen to me didnt last long in pot before plant in ground. I will try again. Yep good sign. I dont soak washingtonia seeds in water all drought tolerant. Easy start in seed tray and plastic on top or pot with so i no plastic cover that what I did my Washingtonia palm seeds Your choice seed tray depend how many washingtonia palms you have. And after somewhat out grow seed tray plant in 5 gallon deep pot and see how long it take for them out grow easy protect in winter washingtonia filifera more hardy than robusta and person in denver co do grow washingtonia filifera and robusta and I ordered my all 3 varieties last year and I will see how much they grow in ground my washingtonia palms 2 feet to 5 feet. My trachycarpus palms survived 7 below zero now 15 below zero with tarp and rug cover and many palms live in my yard from polar vortex almost 5 days. I will let you know after weather warm back up and I take cover off my palms. The palms add my list washingtonia palms in my yard European fan palm and saw palmetto palm too. I read plant delights nursery all trachycarpus palms zone 7 and you wonder why all list zone 7 and live colder than that I think only because short time very cold event and most die some live for humidity cold. Grand junction zone 7a trachycarpus palm trees live better 30 years than new Jersey trachycarpus palms died even most of Washington DC away from city because it 10 degrees colder. I know more dry cold for washingtonia filifera list zone 7a but survive record low 11 below zero in Albuquerque in 2011 dry cold. And most washingtonia robusta palms died from 5 below zero in las cruces new Mexico in 2011 that list zone 8. All washingtonia palm grow alot faster than windmill palm. I dont know what your plan for washingtonia palms in few years time. All need sun to grow fast they grow more slow in half sun take longer to grow 1 leaf almost 2 month in full sun 1 leaf every month. Some washingtonia palm bit stunted maybe someone keep in same pot long not put them bigger pot after some what outgrow cup size. If I start seeds and see good size seedlings best plant in 3 gallon they can grow more after out grow seed tray. So you can have good result for them to get much bigger faster. And I learn use outside soil better chance less shock to be plant it outside from plant potting soil and my grow better from loam soil anyway I don't need sand at all and I noticed it beef up better than potting soil I use potting soil first and learn they bit weak outside soil work better and more heavier than potting soil but it work that way. I hope you dont run out of room before you move different house.

      Nre update all my palms and rosemary survived 18 below zero 1 rosemary no winter protection by south side wall and other only rug cover and lived and palm kind ed by trash can cover and rug and tarp and plastic jar my new record low they live in polar vortex that they list for zone 7 and some 6. Next one my 3 washingtonia palm variety and saw palmetto palm and European fan palm.

    Love the video except for the part about sanitizing. My grandma could grow anything in her sleep and lived to be in her early 90s. She didn't sanitize trays. She didn't sanitize her seed storage containers or garden tools or anything like that. This is some new generation "scared to death of all germs" stuff.

    • @Apollo_Blaze
      @Apollo_Blaze 2 года назад +2

      My grandmother was the same way...she could stick a broomstick in the ground and it would grow leaves...lolol...but she never did any sanitizing at all, she just planted the way she learned in her country of origin and she had a beautiful garden, veggies and flowers, she loved All flowers. I have some of her garden tools still..she was a beautiful lady...I love you grandma.
