An exclusive first look at the Rex Delta

  • In late September I had the privilege of attending the Rex Firearms media day in Slovenia. While there they introduced their newest handgun, the Rex Delta. The Delta is a polymer framed striker fired handgun. Designed with the concealed carry market place in mind, the Delta has the potential to make the Rex Firearms brand a common name in the firearms community.
    For those of you not familiar with Rex Firearams, they are a part of Arex, a manufacturing and development facility located in Slovenia. Slovenia is a small European country bordered by the Adriatic Sea, Italy, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary. Rex has been in the US marketplace for around 3 years (though Arex has been in the industry for well over 20 years) and is mostly known for their well made hammer fired guns. While these guns are reliable, shoot very well, and are built to exacting specifications, the consensus from many was, “they are too heavy to be a good EDC or concealed carry gun.” Well, Rex Firearms listened to the feedback and enter the Delta.
    The Delta's I handled were all pre-production models. Essentially they were the first ones off the line and they had asked myself and 5 other media people to visit the factory and test out the new Delta. My initial thoughts were, “well it's another polymer striker fire gun”, but Rex seems to be more in tune to the market than many of the US manufactures as they really have produced a handgun that has what most people want. Of course getting to handle it and listening to a presentation about it are one thing, shooting it, well that puts the proof in the pudding.

    I have a Rex Zero 1 compact with 500+ rounds through it, and not a single malfunction. I’m very much looking forward to their striker fired model!

    I've got the Delta and it's one of my favorite pistols. I can shoot it extremely well. Almost as well as the P10c .

    I myself would welcome the manual safety and hope they offer it in both configurations here in the US. I carry IWB and every pistol I carry in that capacity has a manual safety. I know that most guys don't care for such but I myself like knowing that there will be no unintentded discharge inside my wasteband. Guns that I have carried IWB are: Ruger SR9, the Security-9, M&P 2.0 3.6 w/manual safety, CZ-p-07, 1911 officer, Sig 226. Guns I won't carry IWB: Glock, VP-9, PPQ, APX, P-10C, FN-509. Call me what you will but I do not want to shoot my buddy off drawing or reholstering appendix position because the pistol didn't have an operator engaged safety. I grew up shooting hammer fired pistols and swipe off safeties that do not exist just because I trained for so long that it is muscle memory. I also was there when Glocks first hit the market and guys were shooting themselves with their own guns because that safety wasn't there. They call it Glock leg for a reason and I don't want any part of a membership to that group thanks anyway. Now in a duty rig or a tactical thigh holster position I will carry any pistol without as much concern because it is off body so to speak, but IWB against my flesh nope not happening.

    I was asking a local gun shop owner just yesterday about this brand; he was telling me that his experience has been that most people won't buy it if he stocks it. He explained that guns from manufacturers like Canik, Sccy, and Arex aren't very popular generally speaking and don't sell.

    • @brettkos3081
      @brettkos3081 6 лет назад +2

      I'm glad that he thinks sccy won't sell and refuses to sell them. Unfortunately, around my area, customers see the $200 price tag on the sccy and buy it.

      Ragemutt I think it’s a perception that they are made substandard. Even I went with the idea that it was a small operation, but Arex has been making parts for companies like FN and Browning for years. It will take some time to overcome the unknown, but I think they are highly motivated and committed to excellence. Will everyone want one, no, but that’s the great thing about a free market.

    All the writing on the pistol grip and slide make the gun a little busy looking visually but otherwise I like it a lot

Im not sure I understand tell me something cool you can do with a non-polymer hammered fired gun ? (im not being nasty im just curious because im inexperienced) thanks david

    Basically, I see this pistol as another stab at the Glock 19. You know . . . double stack polymer frame striker fire pistol with 15+1 capacity for the conceal carry market. It's my understanding that the version with the external safety is being marketed to law enforcement agencies. As for being optic ready or not, I could not care less about that. Personally, I wouldn't recommend a striker fire pistol for appendix carry unless it had a safety . . . but that's just me, I guess. Price point is very competitive with Glock, CZ, S&W and others.

    Wait wait wait wait.. and one more wait..... I’m sorry did you just say a little bit of creep in the reset?????
    ummm I got both gen 1& just got the gen 2. But back in 2019 when I not only toured the factory and shot the delta all thanx to my buddy mateja shout out to Mateja lol. And I was fortunate enough to shoot both with and without safety pre production models and and when i got one of the first shipment in the states the trigger was the same as it is today. Not only is one of the shortest resets on a stock trigger I’ve ever experienced but not only was there n creep.. it would of been impossible to have creep cuz it didn’t even return forward far enough to have any...
    That’s a bummer y’all’s did...sorry to hear that..

      Yes. Comes with a 15 and 17 round magazine and I think it's about an ounce lighter than a G19. It also has 3 or 4 backstraps for the grip.

    I had wanted to buy a CZ P10C. But it took forever to have them available and then they had all kinds of issues. Now they can be found online for as low as $380.00. I still don't want one , though. I will wait until
    a few of these get tortured and may very well purchase one as soon as the price comes down.

    5:00 he must have seen a ghost with that flinch..
    As for the gun, it's not optics ready so it's a dumb release. Every modern gun should be optics ready from the factory, no questions, no special upcharge model. No excuse to release a new gun without it.

    • @Daedalus513
      @Daedalus513 5 лет назад +4

      Remember though that the average shooters don't run optics on their weapons generally. Glock is a prime example of that. I am sure they will release a model that has these features in the future like they did with the Zero 1.

    • @sgarretson315
      @sgarretson315 5 лет назад

      I believe that all manufacturers will eventually, as optics for pistols continues to be more popular, and it grows every year.

      @Bhum Brahmavira you clearly have never used or carried a red dot hahaha. Everything you said is incorrect

    • @maximusjoseppi5904
      @maximusjoseppi5904 5 лет назад

      @Bhum Brahmavira there's zero chance of them ever coming off unless you installed it wrong, they weigh one ounce or less so the metal you take off to mount them weighs as much as the optic, they add zero bulk or "snag potential" because that space is irrelevant when carrying, and they don't require special holsters. At most, you might have to Dremel off a quarter inch on a cheap bulk order holster.
      In all my training I've never seen someone snag their optic on a draw. They aren't shaped in a way that it's possible. If you have a bad draw, you'll snag on the beaver tail or not at all.
      To top it all off.... Guns milled for an RMR don't require you to use one. It gives you the OPTION.
      There's absolutely zero downside to a gun being optic ready. Don't know anything about optics like you? Don't use one, no sweat off your back. A feature you don't use won't hurt you but a feature you need and don't have ruins a design.
