I absolutely keep a candle in the window. I started when our son served in the Army. He was gone for ten years! That candlelight never went out!
I love hearing that!
My neighbors across the street keep lighted battery candles in their windows- I love it,so warm& comforting. My windows are full of potted plants😉 Love your vids!🌱🌧️💐
Thank you Linda for taking us with you to see these lovely places 😊
So excited to see this video. Thank you for sharing all your experiences. Your daughter is precious, I will subscribe to her channel today. Like mother, like daughter 💝
Love it when you share those beautiful New England towns. You have been working hard, those gardens are looking better and better. Thanks for sharing your home.
Really enjoyed your video. So peaceful and beautiful.
"One if by land...two if by sea" couldn't resist! Thanks for lighting up my day!
LOL!
I like it when you play hooky. So wonderful to see all the history along with you. :) I love your candle in the window.
I so enjoy candles. I keep.1 in a window & always 1 on the table. When our daughters were growing I let them enjoy candle lit bubble baths reminding them to make their days beautiful.
Yes, I keep 2 faux candles burning in our front window every night from 6 to 11pm. Love the tradition. ....
This was such a heartwarming video for me Linda. I grew up in Belmont and had a family home there for 45 years. I can't begin to tell you how much time I spent in Concord and Lexington and still miss it to this day.( I have relatives buried in Sleepy Hollow.) I miss all the lunches and dinners at the Colonial Inn, and am still a member of the Concord Museum. I have been living in Maine since 1978 although I traveled for my career , and was away alot. It is a very long day trip ride, although it seems your new home is a ride now as well to Middlesex County. I am new as a subscriber and am enjoying all of your videos. Thank you! Your new home is exquisite!! Love Love the toile wallpaper in your butler's pantry! One of my favorite rooms haha!!
Linda, I loved the intro!!!!. Such a beautiful reflection of all that you do.❤
Thank you!
I love having sensor candles in my windows. I live out in the country, and it makes it nice to return home with the lights in the windows.
I put candles in my window in the winter months. (Daylight savings time.) Love coming home to the friendly glow.
Lovely varied video Linda, it’s was a real treat to see Sugarwood at night & the beautiful night sky. The welcome light is a charming tradition & a nice thing to keep up it makes your house look so pretty at night…. 🧚♀️
I keep the candles in the windows in memory of my husband who I lost two years ago.
I love that! Hugs
I love seeing the butlers pantry .such a lovely space
Love the new opening! What a wonderful way to wake up with Willow checking on you :). Miss my pup. Thank you for your channel.
Just a quick suggestion; Now that I’m 74, climbing isn’t a good idea. I wash my windows outside myself. I hose them down, then take a small kitchen sponge mop, pour Dawn dish soap on it, scrub the windows and hose off. They come clean and dry without streaks! 😊
Thanks for the great tip!
A couple of horses on that nice pasture is probably nicer than a pool. :) YOu already have a barn. Sugarwood has given you this gift, all you need are the horses.
Linda, I loved this video. I also loved the tradition of a candle in the window.Luv MJ
That's good we all need that
Peace, love, and an upward trajectory is what your channel offers. The beauty from within manifests into what you create here.
My husband and I are excited for every post, as it is our coffee date on Sunday afternoons. You do excellent with simple and grand projects you share.
I do the same, 40 lb. bags of feed, 55 lb. hay bales, I'm 67, if you rest you rust. BTW I love when you take us on your excursions ❤
"When you rest you rust" I love that! tin man flash backs. LOL
I love watching all of your videos. I have candle lights in all of my windows and have been doing this ever since I visited Lancaster, Pa. where it is common. Thank you so much for all you do and share. Much appreciated.
I always look forward to your videos. So enjoyable and beautiful to watch. 💕
I knew the candle was left in the window for travelers and for loved ones, but not the other reasons. Thanks for sharing this. I watch Arlynn at Arlynn Country Craft Conner. She told the story of the candles in the windows. She keeps a single candle in every window in each window of her house. She lives in an old Battlefield in Virginia. Beautiful Colonel 💕 You have so much yard work, I did some today, tomorrow more will come. Big fires to burn so much wood from many large trees that had fallen over this past winter on our property and from the ones we have been cleaning out to make room for better trees. I will go over to your daughter's channel later this week. Thanks for telling us about it. Happy 4th.
Enjoy your tree and brush burning. I love to do that myself!
KUDOS to Shannon!!!❤ Linda, thank you 😊
Enjoyed your day watching you playing hookie.
I leave two candles on in the barn windows. Love it.
I love that they are in your barn!
I love all your videos I have been watching you for almost a year now we will be leaving for Tennessee to our new home we have been in the state of Florida we have been here way too long can't wait to have some seasons And I can't wait to have new gardens. I'm going to purchase some candles in my new home I like that tradition.
Woke up from a quick nap after work to your video... Love that you "played hookey!" Antique browsing is a favorite pastime!!! Back when I was 5-8 years old, we lived right next to Concord, at Hansom Field AFB. I don't know if it is still there (the base, with so many closures during the 1990's), but my 2nd grade class took a trip to Concord to visit Paul Revere's house and a big church (the North Church, maybe?). Fun to see around the town! I remember learning about Paul Revere's ride, and we walked across the bridge as if we were patriots. Cool that your ancestor was a Son of Liberty! I have two ancestors on both sides of the Revolutionary War. One ended up moving to Nova Scotia after the war and the other was fighting from Maine.
Just seeing your garden and how you used hardware cloth to cover the strawberries. I made a hardware oval for a raised metal bed to keep critters away from my lettuces, broccoli and a strawberry mini garden. So far so good! Had to open the chickenwire top I wired on for a tomato plant to grow up and out. :) Happy planting!!!
Thank you for the little glimpses of The Orchard House. My daughters and I had a trip booked to go to see it and then COVID came..........Hope to get there one of these days!
So relaxing!
Subscribed to NEW ENGLAND SIMPLE LIVING 🙌🙌🙌
Looking so good. Good job
I don’t keep a candle in the window but think it’s a nice idea. Growing up I enjoyed all of Louisa May Alcott’s books and really enjoyed your trip there. Would like to see it more in detail sometime. Going to check out your daughter’s channel. She really favors you. 😊
Your videos are so inspiring. Thank you so much ❤
Great tour Linda.
Oh and I have a candle in my upstairs hall window.
Good luck to Shanon!!!
How cool is that! Go Shannon!
Another great video, Linda.
Love the candle tradition...enjoyed your video
Your daughters channel was great look forward to seeing more! I subscribed right away. Thank you for sharing all you do! 😘
That was me! I was the one who said you should put in a pool! ❤ and you had responded back to me that there was once a pool in that big backyard. Thanks for showing the pic of it. You’re right, they are a lot of work. I live in Minnesota and it would be a very short pool season for us.
Thank you for taking on us a tour while you went to the dentist. Have a blessed week.
Thank you, Linda, for a fun and inspiring video💐💖
I keep a candle in the window also as a light in the darkness- I love the idea of a light in the window being a welcome in the night.
Love your candle in the window year round . Loved your video to Linda . Just awesome !
Like your Willow alarm clock.
Lovely, relaxing video. Thanks for sharing your day ...interesting. Also, you have a lot to maintain- gardens, areas to paint or remodel, etc.
I also have a candle in one of my windows. It is not only inviting, it is sign of having a compassionate home.
I have enjoyed your remodel, looks great. Can tell your heart is in all you do.
Thanks for your lovely video. It's always so enjoyable to visit with you. Looking forward for your next one!!
Loved the video, I have 4 windows with year round candles in them.

The garden is looking so pretty Linda. I love a candle in the windows and have been doing it for years 😊. Good luck to your daughter with her channel 👍🏻😊. Enjoy your evening.
Your pantry room is my favorite room in your house. I love what you’ve done with it.
Gosh, having warm, sunny weather for both days this weekend was heavenly! I absolutely love to tour old homes, old buildings, and old parts of towns, especially as it relates to the revolutionary war period….. What a rich history we have here in New England. By the way, I went to your shop a few days ago and I purchased the cutting board tonic and I really am enjoying it. It makes my cutting boards look nice and clean and shiny. I will definitely be checking out your daughter’s new RUclips channel, and I hope she has great success with it. Happy planting to us all!
I love all your videos when you take us on your tours into old towns. I love seeing all the old colonial homes and some of the history behind the homes and towns. I'm looking forward to all your daughter's videos too. She will be digging up some great stuff to share with us! As for the candles in the windows, they do this in most homes in Lancaster PA. I have family there and they all keep candles in their windows lit at night. But of course, they are battery lit candles! Pennsylvania has many beautiful old colonial old homes and towns like New England. I just love seeing it all, so beautiful!
My grandmother lived in a beautiful old colonial in Concord MA. It dated back to the early 1900’s and had a huge kitchen and a stunning butler’s pantry with glass-front cabinets that went all the way to the ceiling. The house was sold after she passed and the first thing the new owner did was remove the butler’s pantry. 😩 That was back in the early 80’s and I still feel just a little bit sad when I think about it. Whenever I see your gorgeous butler’s pantry I get all nostalgic! It’s such a warm, cozy room! Just lovely.
Loved hearing about the light tradition. I will be putting a few lights in the front widows and leaving them all year round. Love your soft spoken words.
When we purchased our new home, there was an in-ground pool and I hated it. We finally decided to get rid of it few weeks ago. thank goodness it is finally gone!
Willow !!!💙💙💙
Loved this video was a good mix of visiting new towns to me and gardening! I love to garden. Going to Connecticut soon for a wedding. I have never been to the New England area soo looking forward to it!! Love history. I live in Northern Indiana. Thanks for sharing!!

LOVE The Inn At Hastings Park!!!! My daughter and I stayed there in 2017 (prior to our fall cruise into Canada which left out of Boston). Would ❤️ to go back some day❣️
Really enjoyed the video. I love to see the different areas you visit. You give me ideas for my next visit to New England 😊… And I think a Hartley Botanic Greenhouse would look so nice behind Sugarwood!
I have candles in my windows that come on at night fall, I love the look and started this tradition after a trip to Williamsburg, VA. seeing their welcome traditions 🕯️
☀️🤗I really enjoy your videos. Also subscribed to
New England Simple Living.
Nice channel🙂
Love your new intro Linda. And if that is playing hooky, then go for it. Loved seeing all the stores and especially the Louisa May Alcott home. I wore out my book of Little Women as a young girl. Sugarwood is so lovely. I enjoyed seeing all the rooms in the morning light but my favorite is your pantry. I just love that wall paper and the paint color. Everything is so organized!! Subscribed to Shannon's channel and look forward to seeing what she shares with us.
I live a short drive from Linda. My son and I took a day trip to lexington over the last holidays. We dined at the same inn and it was great. If you are in driving distance, it's a relaxing, fun and informative place to go when you just need a low stress change of pace!
I have known about that candle tradition. I watched a Western movie where the husband had a trip to make. Wife lit a candle in the window til he came back. I love that tradition. As always enjoy your channel.❤
Candle in the window has been a tradition of my for over 30 years and in every home we have lived. We live in a small town in Southern Ohio and it has always been a tradition to have candles in the window year round. The town is a very historic town so maybe that is why the tradition of placing candles in the window came about. I love when we have been out and come home and see our home with candles in every window. It looks so warm and welcoming!
I have candles in my windows. I took the tradition from New England and brought it to Alaska and now I’m moving back to New England and our new (127 year old home) has the candles installed. Side note, I’m excited about your daughter channel, thanks for sharing!
Hi there! I just found your channel and I just love it, so inspiring! I too live in the "Colonial" area of Massachusetts. Thank you for giving me a plan for my next "runaway day! 😅
I love keeping a faux candle in the window or in many ha
Congrats to your daughter starting a RUclips. I just subscribed and watched them. She seems very talented. And she is your daughter, after all!
Thanks for sharing all the great stops and the home where Little Women was written.
Playing “hooky” is definitely needed now and then. 😀 gardens are looking good also.
Have a great Mother’s Day coming up. From Chesapeake Beach Maryland. Take care. ❤️✝️🇺🇸🍓🌺🦩🍷🐾 🦀
Always enjoy your videos. I was raised in the south. But I swear my soul longs to be in New England. Have no idea why. Maybe the seasons. But thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven.
I put candles in my windows in my home in West Virginia but here in Northern Virginia, only at Christmas time. No one else seems to do it. In PA, my SIL does it year round. It's beautiful.
Hope you enjoyed your ride to Lexington. As you my brother is my dentist…….
