I no longer watch this show because of the dangerous things they make the girls do. It became a bit too difficult to watch them go through all that crap just for the show's ratings. The truth is, 95% of the girls who are on that show will never make it as professional models anyway... not because they are not good enough or pretty enough but mostly because it is all about who you know and who wants to know you.
Exactly. I think the problem is that they're models, so mainstream pop culture doesn't really know/care unless they make a big break into Hollywood or music, or start their own fashion lines. The ones we know the most are either ones that the fans really just LOVED (and came back for All Stars, thus staying more relevant), or the ones who actually went into television, or are seen commonly in commercials or music videos (thus: TV). It's hard to get a Top Model supermodel out there that's not Tyra or Naomi, Seal's wife, or even older icons like Twiggy. It's hard. :(
how about the alter ego's in season 3 with Eva? how about the dancing photo's with the final four in season 4 where Naima slayed that? And season 6 with the fairy tale photoshoot?
After watching this show from Cycle 1 to Cycle 22, I realize that Tyra made them do A LOT of unnecessary shit and in some ways would sabotage some of them so they could have someone to send home. Thinking about it, they each take almost 100 pics each photoshoot, sometimes I don't think she would choose their best pics especially when you watched them do it and Jay or another creative director would give them positive feedback. This show did produce some successful models tho, some who didn't even get far in their season. All in all. this was a entertaining show but Tyra has quite some imagination !!!!
I began suspecting the show was rigged ever since Janice Dickinson was no longer a prime judge. Cycles 1-3 are the ONLY good cycles where the people I liked actually won. Some of mine that I liked in future episodes kind of won, but after Kahlen didn't win Cycle 4, the show went downhill.
Cycle 2 had really great photoshoots. Especially the first photoshoot in that episode, Garden of Even where the contestants portray different kinds of Eves. And the photoshoot for the top 3 was just insane. Yoanna's photo was timeless.

The top 3 on this list shows that the earlier seasons are far better than the later seasons. The photoshoots were more fascinating to watch, as well as the contestants in general.
The earlier season shoots seemed realistic enough in that they looked like they might be actually something a model would encounter on the job, but the later seasons seemed like they ran out of ideas and just did whatever for shock value and ratings.
i wish they showed the actual best end pictures with the shoots. i thought this video would so im actually disappointed, because while i remember some of these, some i dont and i would have loved to see the actual photos
The Seven Deadly Sins photoshoot is an incredible idea. Personally I love spooky, creepy thematics and it's awesome that I can see the process of the photoshooting. I used to love watching this show as a kid.
Some memorable ones they missed: The Photoshoot where the girls replicated iconic paintings (cycle 5) the photoshoot when the girls dressed up as circus and freakshow characters (cycle 7) The photoshoot where the girls dressed up in drag (cycle 8) The photoshoot whhere the girls were high school stereotypes (cycle 8) the photoshoot where the girls murdered each other (cycle 8) the photoshoot when the girls and boys dressed up as animals from the zoo (cycle 20)
I would've liked the Iconic Paintings one more if they stayed more true to the original paintings since some of the "modern" versions were kind of ugly.
The 7 deadly sins was my alltime favorite challenge. And my favorite place they went was Japan, when they did the Geisha kimono shoot, the Campbells soup commercial, the Shinjuku motorcycle shoot.... I lived. There was also the Lubriderm shoot where they had to be different animals, the romance novel shoot where the girls nearly peed themselves modelling with Fabio, the Zodiac signs, the homeless shoot when Isis King stole the show, the haute couture shoot in that old Italian villa, the southern hair show with all those hair colors, the krump dance shoot with the clowns, and the black and white scary shoot Tyra photograpped.
I remember one of my favs photoshoots, I don't remember the exact season but the winner was Danielle, the photoshoot where they had to be on an elephant and look like kind of beautiful ethereal fairy angels, and Danielle was feeling bad cause' she had a stomache in that day and she killed it. Loved the blonde girl too who was on 2nd place, forgot her name!! THEY BOTH KILLED THAT PHOTOSHOOT AND SEASON

She stated specifically that showing herself in lingere is only for her husband, not for modeling. This also occured in the first episode, when she didn't want to wear lacy bottoms with her angel aesthetic because she deemed it underwear.
I really hate that people consider that blackface. Tyra wasn't making fun of ethnicities. She was trying to show how beautiful they are and that we are all diverse. Yet deep down we are the same. Aka Humans.

They missed the Adam and Eve shoot from cycle 2. I think Mercedes and April had the best photo. Mercedes was the African queen eve and April was the Chinese empress. The girls bodies were painted and every girl had an Adam. it was really nice. I thought that one should have been included.

I know this is probably a unpopular opinion but I think personally the show was really good to any extent until Nigel & the Jays were gone , I feel the British cycle/All Star cycle was the last actual good cycle which ever one came last

It's amazing because I watched the show from the first season in spring 2003, until maybe 2007 or 2008, which are a lot of seasons. Especially when you consider that after '03, in '04 they went up to two Seasons a year, which I thought at the time was f****** awesome. But then again I was only 21. Unfortunately for me, the older I got, the less original that show became, and then too original it tried to be. But it was a very good idea for an original show, and I had a great time watching it when I did.
The under water photoshoot in cycle 11 for me was the best ever , i mean Lauren Bries shoot that week was absolutely stunning , and she should have won that cycle obviously .

What about the one where they were put in complete darkness last season? Where Nyle (who was also DEAF) literally had no senses to use while posing?
The roller coaster, fear of height , straitjacket and the octopus moments was some funny moments in my opinion.
