Super Detail Guide on What Document to Prepare before driving across the border to Hat Yai. 合艾自驾游！

- We are driving up from Penang across the Malaysia-Thailand border to Hat Yai. There are several documents to be prepared before we can drive across the border, and we would like to share this information with you in case you want it to.
The following are the basic documents that we carry with us from home:
1. Passport
2. License
3. Car card also known as Vehicle Registration card (if you are the car owner)
*However if you are driving your parents or your friend's car, you need to get their approval. You need them to write you a letter stating their agreement to lend their car to you (must include the name car owner's name, IC number, car plate number, car color, and car model, your name, IC number).
* This letter needs to be signed in front of the Commission of Oaths and stamped to be considered authorized and verified. Without this process, it is considered illegal to drive across the border.
There are other documentation that we need to get it prepared for us before we reach the border, such as
1. Thailand Car insurance
2. TM2 and TM3 form 2 copies
* TM2 and TM3 forms are printed on the same piece of paper, one on the front page and the other on the back.
3. TM6 arrival card or White card.
* Don't worry about how to prepare these documents. When you are purchasing your Thailand Car insurance, they will help you to get these completed too. (Ask them if they included this service or not if you want to be sure).

There are plenty of companies selling insurance in Changlun and you may choose another if you have a better choice. We chose this stop because they have a toilet and money changer. So we can get ourselves prepared before crossing the border.

Thank you for your detailed video. May I know what was the date you went in? The long queue is scaring me. Planning to bring my kids this mid December, wondering if I should go to other borders that maybe faster?
That time the video is on Friday, but you have to remember for Kedah and Perlis, it is their weekend. That's why it's so crowded. If you go during any public holiday or festival season, it will be overwhelming. That's why usually I take the train rather than drive, though we can buy more if we drive there. To beat the crowd, try to go there as early as early as dawn, but u need to get your insurance and documents ready a day before. Still, it is by your luck because many tour buses are also queuing up before dawn.
It is a fun experience, but with kids and elderly, it can be overwhelming for them
@@DaveJCCooknTravel Thank you! Should be going on Monday after breakfast in Penang, guess have to queue a bit :) Hope we can stay in the car without go down for passport scan at Thai side.
@theabrahamway you going this coming Monday? Then shouldn't have problems. The crowded time is Friday till Sunday. Monday is back to normal, lesser crowd in Hat Yai also...
If I bring car but car owner is my sister would be easy?
Nope...still the same. You need a document to prove that your sis let you drive her car. You need to commission of oath to certify it too. Unless your sis is in your car and let the owner go down and get the document chop and check, then it will be easy.
Hi... notice you mentioned that passengers need to go down themself... what if travelling with young kids....
From what I can see is that all passengers have to go down including kids. If u see the video, some only go down with the driver when at the Pondok/the Kastam officer there to stamp your passport. Just like taking flight, i think children also need to bring together. Hahaha sorry I don't have children travel with me, so I can't be 100% sure to tell u about this.
What time were you at the Thai checkpoint when it was this crowded?
930am...because it is Friday and also the school holiday weekend. It is always like this on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, even more during Public holidays.

Hahahaha I don't have the exact infor for this. But I am sure until 11 pm they are still open because I was sitting at the shop (opposite the hotel) and having my supper.

Hi Cris, Naluri Aman is not operating 24 hrs. Their operation hour is from 4.30AM - 9PM only, Monday - Sunday. I included the Google link for you so you can find out more including their location:

any nightlife in hatyai for couples?
Yup there are night life and live pub with Thai Song. If you watch my Songkla video, the place we have our dinner actually is a local places to hangout and drink. I will put the link of that video and the pub FB for you. We didn't stay there for too long because we are in rush. You may ask the owner whether got other places or not.

20 Thai Baht only. So go outside tourist area then u will find cheap food...even during peak season
How long can we stay and fron hatyai where else we can go?
Hi. Well depends on what type of activities you like to do and engage your time spent in Hat Yai. Averagely 4 days 3 nights I just nice. If you wish to proceed to other places from Hat Yai, you can go to Songkhla City, Phatthalung, and Satun which are nearer to Hat Yai. You can also drive to Krabi if you are up for 4 - 5 hours drive challenge. I have not done that yet.
