As I know... the ticket selling is only available at the Padang Besar station, and the Thailand railway officer will need to check our passport while purchasing it. The counter will open twice a day (9 am. and 3 p.m.). So you can't get it in advance at KL sentral. But if your question is whether can we buy in advance at Padang Besar Station counter itself, that I am not that sure...and I don't think it is necessary too since they open twice a day and got plenty of sears.
Hi, my friend, I would like to ask has anyone use/connect with the WiFi service on the ETS train before? On my previous trip, I didn't use the WiFi services provided on the train (because I got my own data service that time), and I hope someone who used it before can let us know how is the service. I believe this is one of the many concerns of modern-day travllers, me included. If any travllers who are using Malaysia telecom and wonder whether the WiFi connection is good/not during the entire journey, I will said it is quite stable (for Digi and Celcom users) I didn't get disconnected during this journey except once when we travelling past the tunnel.
Thanks for sharing. Q1) Does the train from KL have free WiFi? Q2) Since both the Gold and platinum are on the same train - all arrive at the same time irrespective of gold or platinum? Q3) Where in Hat Yai is the train station? I mean is it central?
They have an entertainment panel available in platinum class (not sure Gold class has it or not), that link with the train WIFI. But the connection is ain't that good. Besides, they also didn't provide us any WiFi link (or perhaps I missed out). , the entire journey I was using my data plan, and it is quite ok. Regarding the arrival time, well, since both gold and platinum classes are linked together, they both definitely arrive at the same time. In the nutshell, I personally think the platinum gives us more space (bigger seat area and room for my leg), lesser passenger per coach (equal to lesser noise and more comfort), meal provided, and individual charger point for each seat. For such a long distance, I personally prefer to have a more comfortable seat. If you wish to know more about this train, here is the link that I find it for you that describes many details of information. risemalaysia.com.my/ets-services-in-malaysia/#:~:text=A%20personal%20entertainment%20system%2C%20consisting,option%20on%20the%20entertainment%20system
Nope...no need to scan QR code or show our Covid certificate record at our KTM or at the Padang Besar Immigration Check Point. Everything back to normal like last time before Covid19
Ok. regarding train from Hat Yai to Padang Besar, tge train will start the journey sharp at 8 am (not 7.30 am). The counter for selling ticket only open (if not mistaken) 730 am and you can't buy the ticket a day earlier, only available on that day itself.
Hi. Well, it is hard to list down for u as references because train ticket prices will be different according to season and which type u choose. Overall, my budget is RM2k, and that covers hotel, transportation, and food (not including buying souvenirs, cloths and others)... but we went there for 1 whole week, so expenses will be slightly higher, especially on accommodation.
All date is unavailable? That means the system got a problem or totally sold out. But it can't be totally sold out unless it's a festive season (I think). When we purchased our ticket to Hat Yai, we did not encounter any difficulty. If this is the case, you only left one option, which is to go to the KTM counter to check it out...or wait for a day or two to try again. Sometimes, the KTM system will have problems... such as unable to proceed for payment... we encountered this issue once for our Penang trip.
If you are taking the train to Hat Yai, the Malaysia and Thai Immigration Office is at the same building. They are on the lowest floor by the train. If you watch my video, going down from the staircase will come to the Malaysia Immigration office...once you get Yr passport chopped, just continue walk on and you will come to Thai Immigration Office. It is just 50 feet away or less from each other. That's why super convenient
When u reach Padang Besar... can u walk out of station and take bus/mini van instead of train to hatyai? What about immigration....do u need to clear immigaration on malaysian side as well as the Thai side before bording the bus. Tqvm for your help.
Ok regarding taking a van. When you arrive in Padang Besar by train, follow the crowds and you will come to the main entrance area. You can look for minivan services at the entrance. Some people offer you their service once you come to the entrance. If not mistaken the price is around RM30/pax. Then they will fetch you to Padang Besar The Malaysia and Thai immigration border to transit. You need to get your passport stamped at the Malaysia Immigration office first then cross the border to the Thai Immigration office to stamp your passport. The entire process might be long if it is peak season, a public holiday, or a weekend (Friday - Sunday). Once stamped, they will fetch you to Hat Yai. Hope I managed to answer what you wish to know. Let me know if you wish to know more... And I try to answer with what I know
@@DaveJCCooknTravel tqvm for the prompt reply. Is the Malaysian Immigration for stamping my passport at the same place as the Thai Immigration where my passport is stamped again? or very far apart. Also does the mini van of RM30/pax wait for me outside both of the Malaysia and Thai immigration. So the van will wait for me at both places and then finally fetch me to my hotel in hatyai? tqvm for ur assistance.
If you mean is it Malaysia and Thai Immigration Office in the same building, the answer is no (if not mistaken). This is for those taking a van to cross the border. You will arrive at the Malaysian immigration first, then travel across the border (there is a distance, either 500m or 1km, I'm not sure...didn't measure), then you will arrive at the Thai Immigration office, where you need to line up again. During peak season you will stuck waiting in line. You can refer to my latest video and get the idea about driving across the border and seeing there is a different office. Though it is Bukit Kayu Hitam, it is also the same design. ruclips.net/video/E5UcelpKhd8/видео.htmlsi=eMLMVsg-6VmcVrMv
oh i forgot one last question....does the same van that u paid rm30 outside the padang besar ktm station take u to the Malaysian Immigration checkpoint, then to the Thai immigration checkpoint and finally to Hatyai itself? Do they wait for u during the waits at the 2 immigaration checkpoints? or must u take another van at the Thai Immigration checkpoint to Hatyai? tqvm again.
Hi, according to the train info, there is free WiFi access for all platinum classes seats. However, I didn't try it because I have my own data plan that time and running quite well throughout the entire journey. So I am sorry I can't tell you much how fast and good is the wifi on the train. Hope someone in the chat here can help out this question.
@@DaveJCCooknTravel no worries, do you use Malaysian Sim for the data? This will be our first time traveling with family. Your vlog really helps. Thank you so much. :)
I'm glad my vlog did give you some ideas. I used Malaysia Sim card (Brand:Celcom), and it is quite stable throughout the journey. Nowadays, Celcom has combined with Digi telecom, and their converage area has greatly improved. So do get one of the prepaid Sim card and use them when you are travelling in Malaysia. There is another brand called Maxis but I can't give you a review for it because I am not its user. Where have you travelled so far in Malaysia?
Indeed, it's a long waiting time. I heard from them (those who work at the SIM Card shop) said that we might equally need to queue up 2 - 3 hours at the Malaysian Thai Immigration border if we take a van service, 🤔. So it is a dilemma for us
Lol yeah can put on weight if the journey is longer...truly nothing much to do. Can't sleep because it is a bit too noisy (got a few young children misbehaving there and kept yelling). So besides eating, what I can do is watch Netflix and continue eating hahahaha
Thanks so much for this useful video. We drove to Hatyai from Kuantan in July. Would like to try this ETS train.

Sure, you can pay with cash when u buy from the counter at KL sentral. It is very convenient and not a very long queue (at the right time?)
