I just completed a month of backpacking through 8 cities in malaysia and thailand solely by rail. It was the best experience. Many tourists tend to skip Hatyai which is just an hour away from Padang Besar by train for 50 baht. Loads of cheap good food and shopping. You could even do a day trip to Songhkla from there by minivan for 35 baht. They got some really beautiful beaches with clear waters. Then from Hatyai you can hop on a sleeper to Bangkok.
Hey pawpaw.. I want to ask you, From Hatyai to bangkok using sleeper bus? Sleeper train? How much does it cost? Is it better to buy the ticket online or offline? I have a plan to make an adventure from indonesia - singapore - malaysia - bangkok just using ferries/bus/train…hope I can get more info 🙏🏻
Dear Buddy Moon, I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your recent video. It was truly fantastic and incredibly enjoyable to watch. I wanted to particularly commend your team's courage and creativity in choosing the long route, such as traveling by train instead of opting for the simpler and faster option like flying. This decision not only added depth and richness to your content but also gave viewers like myself a unique perspective and experience that we wouldn't have had otherwise. It takes real courage to take the road less traveled, and your willingness to do so is truly admirable. I eagerly anticipate more of your videos and adventures. Your dedication to delivering high-quality and captivating content is truly commendable, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. Thank you once again for sharing your incredible journey with us. Wishing you continued success and endless adventures ahead! Last but not least do hope to see u in japan in the near future. Warm regards, yasa
Thanks guys for doing this great video. We did the same trip in 1995 when we were about your age. The train may be newer but else it hasn't changed. It brought back lots of memories.
Yay finally! It was so nice to meet you at Georgetown Penang Sentral jetty! Thank you for taking a picture together 💖✨ You guys are so sweet and I hope you love Malaysia 🇲🇾✨
Funny to see you doing the reverse journey I did. I had the opposite problem after arriving in Malaysia, I only had Thai Baht and there was no place to exchange money and no ATM, but in my case I couldn't buy anything with that on the Malaysian train 😅
It's actually a good idea to travel by train. It maybe slower but is definitely more comfortable and hassle free if well planned. Much more luxurious than sitting on cramped airplane seats.
Very informative and you give a detailed perspective to the place you are in ..keep up the good work and hope to meet you someday in Goa India cheers love to you both Malcolm.
Thanks for sharing this amazing experience...... Hailing from Johor Bahru / Singapore..... Will be watching your every journey..... Love the way you guys look at things despite facing difficulties along the way.... Well, all part of the experience.... Cheers mates!!
Hello friends, That was a lovely sleeper train in Malaysia with a nice dining table for you. I'd like to travel on that train. Have a good tour my friends
thought of giving this video a skip as it is again train video but glad watched it. You both make relationship of couples so easy but there is a balance as well. Keep going and good luck.
The old Georgetown Butterworth ferry only charges for trip from mainland to island. The return trip (island to mainland) was free. The new ferry you have to pay both ways (RM2 each way for adults). The ferry arrives to Penang Sentral station on Butterworth side and you can walk to the train station. The Butterworth train station has a lift from waiting area to the platform. At Padang Besar, immigration and custom clearance for both Malaysia and Thailand are done on the Malaysian side if you travel from Malaysia to Thailand. I travelled from Penang to Hua Hin a few years ago on the sleeper train. Quite enjoyable. Must try it again sometime. A word of caution. Thailand train air con temperature is set to Arctic. You need some warm clothes.
Yup, the train you took to Padang Besar is KTM Komuter Northern Sector, it is a commuter train service in northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, similar to komuter in Greater KL or Greater Jakarta. Anw, there's a direct sleeper train from Padang Besar all the way to Bangkok? I thought we need to go to Hatyai first.
Hi morning, may I ask is the train come with power socket ? Bringing kids and oldfolks , worry about their meal arrangemnt as i know the train is without a cafeteria. Thinking to bring along a mini kettle. Thanks
Hello Buddymoon, may I ask, what was the Immigration checks like from Penang and on arrival to Thailand. Do you have a Thai visa before embarking in the journey?
I am planning on going from Malaysia to Vietnam and would love recommendations on budget friendly travel suggestions! Do you recommend a website to look at the sleeper trains?
I am flying from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur at airport how i can show them proof of onward to Thailand if i want to use this same train to go bangkok , how do i buy online and do they accept train tickets at Kuala Lumpur airport
The train to padang besar frm butterworth is a commuter train (metro for the northern region)... There is an express train called the ETS but I think it's easier and cheaper to take the commuter..
@@kimmysplatqn yes for the commuter you can go to the ticket counter there, and maybe the ticket machines (but mot sure they have them) as i only travel there by ETS...
Love your travels, guys!! I enjoy your commentary so much!! Do you have any plans to visit China? You can cross over to China on land, from Vietnam. Love from India.

Ovaltine is a malted chocolate drink. Similar to Milo. I'm surprised they don't have it in Australia.

Seems like the train stations are not luggage friendly. I did not see any elevators, only stairs. Will be hard for older folks with luggage.

Already leaving? Awww... but you have not been to the east coast. Its a different scene and vibe from the west coast where u guys have been.

The journey was cool, though the train was beyond air conditioned and probably refrigerated. Perhaps they could rename it as the Polar Express.
Hahahha it definitely felt like the polar express, but was a great experience none the less🤣
Yeah you only pay from mainland to Penang and it’s free from the island to the mainland
Cute Couple u both.
