Sell the containers. I love your happy heart and your decluttering videos. When I watch your videos my husband says, “Are you watching that nice lady?”
Hello from A Grandma Retired Teacher from Georgia. I just found your channel a few weeks ago. I have watched some of your early videos. You have really lost a lot of weight! Awesome. I have been decluttering for about 3 years. When I retired I suddenly had all my SCHOOL STUFF at home wow. So I am in somewhat of a maintenance mode. Love to watch you while I declutter. Thanks.
I would do FaceTime and then mail the stuff. My mom did that with me, and it was much easier to make decisions from afar. It can be kind of stressful to do it during a visit. Being in your childhood house puts you in a different mindset. Making decisions where your adult house is and thinking about where you would keep the stuff really helps the decision-making process.
VACUUM PARTS: suggestion - place parts in a CLEAR plastic bag/clear garbage bag (recycle bag) and hang it on the basement wall near where you home the vacuum-type machines. Otherwise, the parts will continue to be overlooked and unavailable when you want them. I also hang my mop covers in a mesh bag on the same hook with the steam mops or on a command hook directly next to them. I enjoy watching you sort your photos. I’ve done that already. Disposed of thousands of pictures and already gave family members those that pertain to them. I kept only the ones I really love. What an amazing feeling it is to get out from under the photo burden mountain. They are a burden until dealt with. I saw a lot of great comments for dealing with the son’s papers. It might be well worth the money to just buy a large USPS flat rate box and just get rid of them. Personally, I’d give them a quick look through and pull out what looks like trash to YOU then FaceTime him for confirmation. Flat-rate mail the rest.
I vote for sell! 🥰 It will save you time and energy, you are worth all the time and energy in the world, every day ❤ Also, I love seeing you every day, it makes me happy, keep it up as long as it feels right for you 😃😍
Isn´t that the sweetest thing to watch Karen to discover Robin doing the dishes? I love you both. It´s always so healing for the soul to see you both interacting with each other. 😍
Refrigerate the flour or freeze it, keeps it fresh. The flour is ready to use right out of freezer...no little bugs in it. Also the English muffins that were donated you could freeze as well. Or refrigerate. You are making great progress & keeping me motivated too. Have a load for donation tomorrow in my car. 😀🥰
I would go through the kids items with them in person or via FaceTime and then decide whether to continue storing them or mail them. I only kept a shoe box full of childhood papers and memorabilia.
That man of yours is a great partner. Proud to say mine is a great partner to me also. And, it feels so nice when he voluntarily does something I needed to do. I know he appreciates when I do something on his mental list of to dos. ▫️Sell. If you’re not using them now - you don’t need them to solve an existing problem. I have canisters for various types of pasta & dried beans. I rarely use them now. I think handling the bags with a twist tie just seems easier. These dried goods are stored in a basket. I have used canning jars for somethings.
Hi from Germany Karen 😊… again a great video ❤️ And, what a wonderful “Valentine’s gift” (your hubby is the BEST!!!) Btw. , I would simply donate the food containers (as you’ve already forgotten that you still had them😉, so, why bother to go through the selling process?😉) Love Martina
I had a doctors appt and its like an hour and a half drive there and then back - my lupus doctor- and I told myself ooooh when I finally get home I will just sit in the chair and watch Karen - cause you motivate me and are relatable
Decant or sell.... I think that you should take a good look in your pantry, think about what and if you want to decant. Then decide what to do. If you decant, use what you like and need, sell the rest. Another idea. Before you take the guinneapig stuff to the shelter, look around in the house if there is anything else they might want. Animal shelters often want old blankets, towels aso, cleaning products (even open) and toys for animals.
Hello there. I would sell those food containers. Decanting just adds up work, also I would do it maybe once, twice, and then be done with it. In the end I used similar things only for pet food, which came in bag, to keep bugs away.
Hey Karen, you pushing that box of photos was a work-out in its self, it’s a great idea to put the photos right by your work area. Also, Yes 🙌 to clearing the floor, it’s looking amazingly neat in that area now and it’s helping to create a clearer clam. Personally, If it was me I would swap out the chair by your furnace and put the shop vac and the vacuum cleaner (plus parts box) there instead; especially as your carpet cleaner is already in place. That way they are right opposite the stairs in a more centralised location. Regards the box of kitchen containers, I was watching one of your old pantry videos just the day before yesterday, when I needed a body doubling partner. You had decanted all your items and I thought WOW the pantry looked so amazingly streamlined back then and far more organised. My suggestion is that you might want to go back to trying that again. Yes, I know it takes time and is a bit like the washing-up, because it needs doing regularly, but it would really help you keep track of what you are purchasing and see clearly what’s being stored. Plus, it stops excessive stockpiling, as each shelf only has set spaces for your items. After all, the aim of a pantry isn’t just to store ‘any’ food items; rather it is the space to store the regular items you cook with the ‘most’. When you did your last pantry tidy, I thought some of those things would be so much better decanted, plus it’s far more hygienic than cardboard containers or plastic bags, when you have cat fluff or the possible risk of food mites, tiny spiders or beetles in a large cupboard where you often keep the door ajar. Anyway, obviously do what you think best suits your lifestyle. So, proud of you taking the time to go through that last bag of stuff. Don’t feel bad about the cheques, these things happen and we all put things off that maybe hard to go through (for you it’s paperwork and photos, for me it’s books).
For the papers: I wouldn't love sending them because of the cost and because I sort of bet he wouldn't actually love/need them all. I'd start with a pre-sort - like certificates, awards, school work, financial stuff, etc. I wonder if some could be scanned and sent as a folder of documents? (and then discard the originals). Having him look at it from afar, like on Facetime, could remove some attachment. He could also ask for advice about if he needs certain items to document something. Sometimes when I am specifically looking at papers I just want someone to hear the story and then I can discard it. He's all grown up with a family now and some of his college and high school items might be starting to be less interesting. Does he have a memory box? You could ask if any of these items are good enough to be in it. Obviously you can't decide what is important to him For him but you could probably do it With him. It would also be handy if his wife was on hand to hear the stories and add insight. Hard to let go of the glory days stories without support and without new memories being created. I would think that with 3 little ones he might be in a great place to update what he is saving from the past :)
I suggest taking a bag with mail etc back up to your office and sorting through it there. Never take such bags to a basement. Also, discipline yourself to sort as it comes into the house. If Robin is more gifted in this area, perhaps he'd be willing to take over the chore.
Oh thank you so much for the basement declutter video. Love those videos the most. Can’t you call the people that issued the checks and see if they would reissue the checks? It’s worth a try.
I have a spare room and the entire closet full of pictures I wouldn't put pictures or tapes or anything in the basement because of moisture other then that your basement is looking good
That’s right you go through it all now and get rid of a lot of stuff and then in a year or so you will do it again. I did and I would say to myself why did I keep this? Declutterring is a process. Of course then I’ll want something and remember I got rid of it. lol😅
You said in a previous video you're not much of a decanter. So if you use it for decanting, you might get a lot of work for one video, but that's probably not for lasting effect. And you probably knew that, since you were already on your way to decluttering it. So I vote for sell :) I'm so glad we do not work with cheques here. If you're owed money it's just transfered to your bank account.
Try to sell them. Then, if they don't sell, consider using them to organize any space generally. Not only in the pantry. For instance, maybe some of them would be a perfect container as a pen cup or to hold your washi tapes.
Amazon doesn't do the book buy back program anymore, but there are other websites that still do it! For stuff that isn't textbook materials, I have found local used book stores usually are the way to go.
I don't decant anything except for salt and pepper. Mind you, I haven't had the misfortune of dealing with weevils or pantry moths or other critters that can infest food. You probably don't want to keep them 'just in case' though. If none of your kids want you to save them, then selling as a package deal seems like a good plan.

Since you said you are not a decanter I would say: Sell them. 🙃 I have the feeling you won´t keep up decanting and the boxes will be decluttered down he road anyways. 😅
I would have such a hard time getting rid of those containers! However, if you do not decant they will be loved by someone else. You should make more money on them 😊though.
I wonder if you can call the companies that issued the checks and see if they can reissue them. I’ve had that work for me before, but only if it’s worth it. What would be worth it? $10, $20, $30 or more? 😊
I would decant since it’s how I prefer my everything. I’d label all of them too so you know what’s in them even though they’re clear. Just my two cents
I know that decanting looks pretty but if it doesn't help you then it wouldn't be worth it to me. I definitely decant some items to make them easier to use; like plastic bags of beans or brown rice or popcorn I put in gallon jars with wide openings. I don't like how plastic bags slide around on a shelf. Anything I would use the entirety in a one meal (like a pound of boxed pasta) I'd never decant. They sit nicely on a shelf. I actually use large buckets for grains (wheats, oats, rye) so I don't have a need for flour containers. When I open coffee I put it in mason jars for freshness. Same with honey, I move it from a gallon jar to smaller mason jars for ease of use. So, for me, the containers wouldn't serve a need besides "pretty" which is not nothing. I think that your open bins for single serving items are a good solution for keeping together like items so if it were me I'd stick with that. You've lived without the containers for awhile and didn't miss them :)
I vote to sell the decanters. There’s a reason that they ended up in your basement, I am guessing. Unless you are really unhappy with the way your pantry is, I would sell them cheap and bless somebody else.
It is exhausting and takes so long when decluttering. Donating and tossing. Several times I thought I was done. But you never are until you can't do it anymore.
vote for selling 😘 because it simplifies your life, you have a lot to do i a day, no need to add an extra activity by decanting food
Sell the containers. I love your happy heart and your decluttering videos. When I watch your videos my husband says, “Are you watching that nice lady?”
Aw, thanks for that! 😃🫶

I like the facetime idea.
That’s nice you are donating the Guinea pig supplies to an animal shelter ❤
Yes I think they will appreciate it and put it to good use! 😃
Thank you for expanding on the
Guinea pigs. I was relieved when you said they were ok. ❤

Yes, that’s real love, he’s doing the dishes without been asked to do it❤
💖

It’s getting better! I like that: progress, not perfection.
Yes! It’s the only way! 😃
That was an amazingly productive hour!
Sell the pantry storage boxes!
And get those out of the house kid's stuff to them. Get it out! Lol
You have a great set up in the basement now. With your table and chair and little heater. Kind of looks cozy.
Thanks! I think so too! 😃

Hi Karen 🤗
Great progress ❤️❤️❤️
Vote for selling. You're doing an amazing job. I declutter my kitchen drawer by drawer while watching you working so hard.
My mom had bags and boxes like this. All over her house. In every drawer and cabinet, loft space. … was really a huge burden on me when she passed.
That’s a big motivator for me! 💗
Hi from Germany Karen 😊… again a great video ❤️ And, what a wonderful “Valentine’s gift” (your hubby is the BEST!!!)
Btw. , I would simply donate the food containers (as you’ve already forgotten that you still had them😉, so, why bother to go through the selling process?😉)
Love
Martina
I adored your reaction to hubby surprising you with doing the dishes! ❤
Love that! Unsolicited dish washing! Love when hubby does that 💜
I had a doctors appt and its like an hour and a half drive there and then back - my lupus doctor- and I told myself ooooh when I finally get home I will just sit in the chair and watch Karen - cause you motivate me and are relatable
I love your wedding photo you shared with us! ❤❤❤

I am such a big fan of not decanting (other than taking wrapped snacks out of their boxes).
Oh thank you so much for the basement declutter video. Love those videos the most. Can’t you call the people that issued the checks and see if they would reissue the checks? It’s worth a try.
Decant!❤🎉
Sell containers.
Don't mail Christian's papers. Put those boxes on the shelf where you had the box of photos. Beside the bag of clothes you found.
I have a spare room and the entire closet full of pictures I wouldn't put pictures or tapes or anything in the basement because of moisture other then that your basement is looking good
Good robin helping karen out way to go keep at it Karen little by little

Whoa! Good plan! 😃
Amazon doesn't do the book buy back program anymore, but there are other websites that still do it! For stuff that isn't textbook materials, I have found local used book stores usually are the way to go.
Sell! Just from the look on your face when you say 'decant' I know that is not really what you want to do. I think it is a fantasy self thing. Hugs! ❤
You could call the company that sent you the check and they might issue you another one.
Decanting to me is easier and tidied in the long haul.
I don't decant anything except for salt and pepper. Mind you, I haven't had the misfortune of dealing with weevils or pantry moths or other critters that can infest food. What kind of Knee Brace do you wear? Left knee needs surgery in the spring.

Link didn't work for me.
I would try to sale. Then used money for more clear storage totes
Sell the containers! 😊
I vote for selling the containers
Sell, sell, sell!
Vote for Sell. ❤
Sell! You've been doing without ALL those containers!
I vote sell!
Let them go. I would just donate and get them out of your house!!
You could have called where the old issued checks were from and ask if they could reissue a new check to you.😊
Sell the plastic bins. You hate decanting. 😊 ❤ hugs em
My vote: donate decanters and start a sewing fund.
I vote selling! 1- you thought you decluttered them 2- have a simpler life
Sell it! Or just get rid of it since you thought you already did!
Look through the containers and pull out any you can use now. Sell the rest
I wonder if you can call the companies that issued the checks and see if they can reissue them. I’ve had that work for me before, but only if it’s worth it. What would be worth it? $10, $20, $30 or more? 😊
Sell the canisters. I don’t believe in decanting unless there is a bug problem.
as Nony the Slob says, "it is a duh declutter" since you already thought you had decluttered it.
😊
I would decant since it’s how I prefer my everything. I’d label all of them too so you know what’s in them even though they’re clear. Just my two cents
Sell! You didn't miss them and you're not into decanting, which is OK.
I would go over it with him again than send it the cheapest way.
Sell container in blue bin
I know that decanting looks pretty but if it doesn't help you then it wouldn't be worth it to me. Have you had that little cough ( clearing your throat ) thing checked out? It’s a bit concerning that you have had it for a while now.😊😊😊
Couldn’t you get the checks replaced
Go ahead and sell the containers if you can.
Looking at your basement I can’t see how you would ever be able to move because you have a full house of stuff downstairs.
Sell! You thought you got rid of it already anyways! And it would free up a lot of space!
If you want clear floor sale the containers.
You forgot you had them so sell them 😊❤️
I vote to sell the decanters. There’s a reason that they ended up in your basement, I am guessing. Unless you are really unhappy with the way your pantry is, I would sell them cheap and bless somebody else.
❤❤❤❤
I would sell since you already decided that you don’t want to do a lot of decanting.
Sell. You do not love decanting as it is, and you do not ned extra work. ❤
Sell.❤🎉
Donate just get rid of them
I would sell them all for 40 dollars.
Thanks for the help!! 😃
Sell ❤
Sell sell sell
It is exhausting and takes so long when decluttering. Donating and tossing. Several times I thought I was done. But you never are until you can't do it anymore.
Sell!! You already thought they were gone and you didn't want them enough to replace.
Sell! 😀
Decant!
Sell the containers.
Sell, you didn't know you had them so you don't need them!
I vote you sell em but if it’s only a small amount of money for a l of effort then just donate them
Sell 😊
Sell! You didn't know you had them and didn't need...let someone else get use of them.
Sell them :)
Sell❗️
