Салам с Кыргызстана брат, молодец что слушаешь полезные лекции и развиваешся@@cinnamonandcandles
I like this kind of videos. I'm from Colombia. I usually watch a lot of Ted's videos during the day. These videos are very useful for me and help me to improve my listening. Someday I want be fluent in English.
hello bro, when watching these videos, do u open the subtitles
@@zachary4078 Hey bro. I watch the videos without subtitles. I think this way is much better to improve my understanding in English.
You're on the right track bro! I'm also from Colombia, B2 in English and I just started acquiring this language 7 months ago. Keep going! 💪
I want to study Spanish, I come form china, can you teach me Spanish, we can chat use English together.
That's true bro, I'm started to learning english since a month ago and these videos help me so much !
This thing about bilinguals having greater empathy is totally true. it's amazing how knowing a second language changed me as a person. it has a great influence on your personality, it changes your identity on a cultural level.
true to ,e
I'm Brazilian and I have been studying english about ten months. I know it's not easy to learn english but I never give up! I'll speak english one day. This is my goal!
I'm also from Brazil :D
I'm already fluent, but I'm studying French...
Don't give up, sometimes looks harder, but you got this!! :))
Hang in there lil bro. I'm from Brazil aswell, from Rio to more precise. The more you consume the more you get used to the language mate. I'd consider myself fluent in english currently but its only because i've been using every single day, if you don't use it you lose it. Keep doing what u doing and ur gonna get there in no time. Good luck dawg!
Don't give up! It's what I say to myselft every single day. I've been learning this language for a couple of months too, and it's being a challenging and exiciting journey. Hope we all can achive our goals, and one day be able to speak and understand this beautiful language fluently. Btw, I'm Brazilian too.
I'm from Brazil as u. This is interesting that we are able to understand better the world, be with mind open, and to communicate with people with this internacional language. One day at time, you'll get better. That's the journey
me too want speak fluently english is my dream!
It is very necessary for everybody to learn a second language. By learning a second language, we can make our word wider, and we can communicate with different nations around the globe. Moreover, a second language can help us to find a good job easily and we can level up our knowledge.
great demonstration.
She is an inspiration! As a new language learner, I was glad to listen to her personal experiences. Although English isn't my native language, I'll keep learning until I die.
It's mentioned in the video that learning a new language improves one's brain. It's not only confined to learning a new language but it has to do with learning something new be it a language or a musical instrument or any other qualifications that you might think of.
I'm proud of this girl as a Hongkonger.
I'm Japanese, and have been learning English since I was little. And I was dispatched to Indonesia as an expat. And it made me realize that understanding different culture deepens and enriches your life for sure.
Hi Jlou, Dan , Mom , Dad .... I've been following your youtube channel ever since you started and enjoy it very much just because we both speak cantonese fluently , but we both look so different. When I do my yearly visit to HK ( birthplace of my wife) nothing brings more joy to me than when a wattress or salesperson compliments me on my Cantonese skills. ( thank you to my wife ). I'm 100% chinese, but I'm 3rd generation living i the United states. My mother spoke Chinese to me, but I always answered back in English. We were both binlinqual. Till I met my wife, she taught me the courage and skill to speak cantonese in public and although Its not perfect, The contrast of my rather Mixed race look person who speaks pretty good Cantonese is utterly amazing , empowering and something to be proud of. We once took a train to Florence from Paris, France, and we befriended a girl who asked us ..... "Why do you only speak one Language" ... as it turns out, and I've discovered, most europeans speak several languages and it is quite common. If I ever see that girl again , I can answer her with .... "I can speak 2 languages". !! I'm Richard and enjoyed your TED talk .....
Hi Richard! Thank you for sharing, keep going with your Cantonese! Happy you enjoyed the talk :)
@@JLou0 thank you
Foreign languages are great especially for career paths. I definitely recommend Spanish and French. Immersive translate will still help you revise on them and get better. It is an app

Learn a new language open new doors for the world and knowledge. The key is to do 1% every day.
I loved this video. As a Ukrainian, who was born in the east and had a lot of relations to the Russian culture, I had difficulties identifiying myself from the childhood. It got further since I started living in different countries, such as Germany, Thailand and Croatia. I absorbed a lot of cultures and I speak different languages, and living in Croatia now, I find it difficult to feel that I belong anywhere …but at the same time I am so grateful for my experiences and I truly believe that it made me much more compassionate and understanding towards different people. I hope we can all appreciate how different we are, cause it’s really beautiful ❤
I am a native English speaker who has been learning languages all my life, including now in my 60's. I think it is a wonderful skill and activity. I cannot imagine being limited to knowing just one language and I can chat with many people. Although I am weak in math and science (non existent) , somehow, languages come fairly easily to me. As for identity, my ethnicity is clear: both parents have same background, religion etc. I moved to another another country after high school and had to learn a new language and culture, which are vastly different to the place I was raised in. I no longer have much connection to it ,so in a way I say I have a mixed cultural identity. Thank you, J. Lou.
Hola Diezn dobry
Wow it is cool to study language all the life time! Respect
Pretty good! I live in Brazil, but I was born in England. I have been studying English for a long time, I studied Spanish too and, now, I´m learning French. It´s a incredible experience. Congrats for the great talks @JLou0
I'm from Brazil, and my journey learning english its being not easy, videos like this helps me a lot with my listening. I hope be able to got a natural conversation one day
This video just popped up on my RUclips homescreen and it is fascinating. This is the first time I heard of the term, "Third Culture Kid". It is a really intriguing topic. I am going to do a little research on the topic. Thanks for the inspiration.
This lesson to came to do understand to speak more languages it's important in life, your brain opens and you may get some opportunity in your life, thank you for this video
😊
I like this sharing show. I started practice more English, after I was over the years old 30.
Love her confidence and her clumsiness with PowerPoint as well
There are a lot of important things she said. It was a very good time for me. What I would say to explain my feelings is she is so cute.
She is an amazing talker!
Such good points! I will show this to my ELL students
Learn a little of English was definitely the best thing I did, since then I am being better paid for the same job, and, as you can realize, I don't know English very well
I really learned a lot from this speaking. Third culture kids are really an important issue. We should pay more attention to these children.
It’s really important 🤍🤍
I'm now learn English and Japanese. They really open my mind.
Me too. I'm from South Korea ! I agree with your opinion. And I hope we can speak English one day! have a great day
Love this inspiring talk and it really shows a different J lou to me. In Hong Kong, mixed-race people are generally considered to be more attractive and they could speak English well. So I would think J lou would be really proud of being mixed, but I found that she struggled and has gone through a lot under identity crisis. So never judge a person only by looking from the outside, each of us has our unconfident part.
Learning a 2nd language is to become smarter, according to experts.
It is a great presentation of the life. I am French but I lived in a few other countries in the world until I was14 years. And now a the end of my life I am not feeling that I am French in France.
Cantonese is my mother tongue. This young lady is amazing, she spoke perfect Cantonese accent!
that was basically the whole point of the video. she’s saying she has lived her whole life in hk so obviously she can speak cantonese perfectly.
inspirational advice to take up second language ☺☺
I am from VN and currently i am also trying to learn and use two languages which are English and Chinese. I find that language is the most remarkable way to express your idea and connect to others. Moreover, everytime i feel intriguing when expressing myself in different languages. Thanks to this video for giving me a huge motivation to continue on the journey to acquire and explore Chinese
Me too bro VN❤
It is cool to be able to speak multiple languages fluently like this beautiful girl in the video. Also, the identity of which country belongs to might be a tough question for person growing up in multicultural family. Anyway, like the cool girl said hopefully everyone can be proud to say where you come from and have chance to learn a second language.
I am glad to read every comment. It helps me to continue learning English 😊
I like to watch this videos during my day because I can improve my listening skills. I would like to be fluent in English. 😊
Why you guys want to learn English?
In my case, I love to conversation with other people who has the each cultural background.
It's really hard to persist but finally we can make it
I attended Catholic schools for 18 years, in a mostly-Muslim country that my parents immigrated into, from mostly-Buddhist country. Speak 3 languages growing up, learned English at a University in the US, then work and settled in Japan.
Best use of my language skills and somewhat-broad cultural exposure, I can cross check ChatGTP in 5 languages!! Checkmate AI!
The biggest problem is that learning a second language is extremely time-consuming, but you can become bilingual more easily if you choose Esperanto as a second language. It opens your mind to lots of cultures, including cultures of smaller countries like Iceland and Hungary. You get to talk to people from many different cultures. The World Esperanto congress ended yesterday in Tanzania, so many Esperanto speakers from Europe, Asia, America got to learn a lot about Tanzanian culture and started to appreciate African cultures much more than the average person.
Excellent .
Some Hongkonger actually also are Third Culture kid when interacting with Mainland Chinese, I was always being teased by my mainland Chinese colleagues as 英軍 ( English soldier) as I am actually not one of them culturally
❤I live in Thai and be the global people 🎉
I think you is angels from heaven 😊
As a polyglot and half Chinese I agree, everyone should learn at least one language other than their native one. Btw I don't know any Chinese
这一类的视频让我思考,我很喜欢。
U need to learn second language because you are greater than ❤
Bu keeping these words in minds already I'm learning a Foreign Language Spanish. I'm loving this Language. What r u learning?
French, Japanese and Spanish
I don't understand being so troubled by just being asked where you are from. It's quite natural to ask people where they are from almost anywhere in the world and keeping it private would surely spoil the atmosphere that would otherwise go on smoothly and peacefully.
I immediately said Australia, although I was born in the UK. No identify crisis here 😂🤣.
Is that official school dress? so stylish!
she's so talented and beautiful
as an Indonesian who live in small village, bahasa indonesia is our second language
I'm learning 2 languages,English and Korean as hobby.
Yeah but she is a mixed girl with a french daddy and chinese-hk mum - that’s why she is multilingual and could speak in french (and basically the majority of hk educated people all speak English Cantonese Chinese). Don’t think it took her much effort considering her unique background.
That's why I have too much empathy. 😊
Why the main camera was so far away from her.
Clever boy 😅
He is showing her greatness
maybe they just want to show more things
The great message, learning new language is hard activity
It is very necessary for everybody to learn a second language . By learning a second language.
Please no hate.
i am a canadian born chinese who was bullied constantly everywhere i go for being my own self.
knowing 3 languages much more better than 2
Good❤❤ 2:01

( never wrote a comment before but felt i should get this one out). I believe its kinda really hard and confusing to come from a family of different backgrounds or being a third culture kid, because you may hear your people from both sides say that you dont look like us or you going out your mother on the streets and feel people criticizing i.e skin, hair ( i know its not their business but as a child it may hurt them) and also get stuck in their head. Its not only white nations but being Blasian and etc. And that may cause the child to feel insecure about his/her identity. So, i amnot disagreeing with multinational marrieges but yk....
She speaks so good and fast, if i didn't read subtitle i don't understand anything
You made some grammar mistakes in if conjunction.
(If l didn't read subtitle I wouldn't understand anything) the correct version.
Thanks😊❤

It's not that deep as much as I thought it would be.
I totally agree with your perspective because it didn't match my expectations either in the way I didn't even finished watching...

I think that the people coming from the social media background (youtubers, instagram influencers...) should not give speeches in TED, just wasted some minutes of my time trying to figure out if she is really going to say something inspiring...
I wear you granddad's coat... I look "incredible"
Ppl from SEA be like:
