    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
    1) How can this work when ACV and lemon juice are acidic? The problem is that (based on what I've read) as much as 80% of people who suffer from GERD/reflux actually have LOW stomach acid. Because of this the lower esophageal sphincter at the top of the stomach does not get the signal to close, thereby allowing acid up into the esophagus. The acid in the ACV triggers the lower esophageal sphincter to close.
    2) How do I know if I have low stomach acid? Mix 1/4 tsp of baking soda with a small glass of water. Drink it and see how long it takes you to burp. If more than 5 minutes (or not at all), you have low stomach acid.
    3) Why does it burn my throat when I drink it? Probably because your esophagus has been made raw by stomach acid. I found that after about a week, it didn't burn nearly as much for me.
    4) Does this work for silent reflux? It did for me.
    5) What if I have a hiatal hernia? I can't advise you on that. I had mine repaired a number of years ago when I had surgery to fix an inguinal hernia.
    6) Can I just take ACV capsules? Maybe. They didn't work for me. Neither did betaine HCL.
    7) Should I keep taking my reflux meds? I did not. My logic is that they would be fighting the very thing I'm trying to accomplish with the ACV.
    8) Do I need to make the tonic or can I just drink the ACV in water? You can drink it in water. ACV is the primary ingredient. The other ingredients have health benefits, but most make this tonic more palatable.
    9) Will I have to drink this for the rest of my life or just 30 days? It's been a year since I've been on reflux meds or had symptoms. I found that I was able to gradually dial back my consumption to the point where I just mix 2TB of ACV with a small glass of water and chug it down before bedtime 2-3 nights per week.

The tonic is working because it’s increasing the acid in the stomach. Acid reflux is due to an increase intra-abdominal pressure caused by low stomach acid. This causes bacteria to grow in the stomach feeding off the undigested foods. So, this built up pressure causes the lower esophageal sphincter to open causing the reflux and heartburn. I am happy for you and thanks for sharing.

I had severe reflux for years. Was on rabeprozole. I’d tried ACV previously but it was making it worse and I couldn’t stand the burning. Instructions were always one tablespoon in a glass of water. I really wanted to get off rabepreozole so I tried just a teaspoon at a time in a big glass of water. Initially I drank this 3 times a day. At first it burned bad! I also have a duodenal ulcer, this could be why it burned so much. I pushed through, and after a couple of weeks the burning nearly went away. A couple of weeks later, zero burn. I think the highly diluted small doses cured my ulcer! Now I take one tablespoon in a really big glass of water every second day. No burning, no reflux! And no rabeprozole. I also cut out wheat and sugar, which always made reflux worse. I’ve been doing this for a total of 6 weeks now, and while I occasionally get a tiny bit of heartburn it’s never bad enough to warrant even a Tum. I’d say I’m cured!

I too was mega-dosing on proton pump inhibitors. I discovered a clinical trial at Mayo Clinic (radio-frequency ablation) which cured me completely. But I was still taking PPI’s. It took a keto diet and ACV to get me off the meds. I’m now only rarely taking ACV. I think that being on OMAD also helps.

One more thing to consider when debating between a tonic a day or a pill a day is that while the tonic helps heal the system and aids in digestion, the pill reduces acid and prevents absorption of some nutrients, so it's not an even trade at all. That pill may make the reflux less evident, but it takes a toll on your pocketbook AND your health.

I stopped the acid reducing drugs because they weren't working, then watched your ACV videos and thought, "what do I have to lose?". A couple of weeks in, NO MORE PAIN, OR BLOATING. I’m a 30 year pharmacist and suffer from occasional reflux. In fact I’m sitting in my recliner because of a reflux incident waiting on the antacid to kick on. PPI (proton pump inhibitor) the class that Pantoprazole is in, kills off the flora of the stomach. Flora is the natural bacteria in the stomach and colon. The flora helps control the acid production of the stomach. So the PPI makes it even worse if taken on a daily basis. When they first came out with Omeprazole we were cautioned to not take it for longer than 6 weeks due to tumors that developed in lab rats during the trials. Almost immediately after launch the Dr’s prescribe this as a sort of maintenance medication. Like your blood pressure. Years later I was in a Seminar with one of the PPI reps giving a presentation. Someone asked about the initial 6 week duration limit and why isn’t it adhered to. He said, “unless you’re a lab rat you don’t need to worry about the tumors.” Most laughed. Thinking back it wasn’t so funny. PPIs aren’t meant for long term use. They push them for long term use to make a higher profit. ACV works for reflux but Big Pharma isn’t going to tell you. Over 30 years of being a pharmacist I’ve seen the profit nature of Big Pharma. I’ve tried to get patients off of PPIs. Told them the harm it’s doing to them. How the chronic use of PPI just makes the reflux worse. But folks prefer a pill vs anything natural. Big Pharma’s war on anything that may take money from their bottom line, be it natural cures, CBD or anything improving live they don’t profit from, had lead to patients trusting the synthetic non natural medication over natural and superior treatments. As evidence of a 15 year PPI user getting off the meds and having one rough spell and one reflux incident mainly due to all his evening meal. Keep on the good work.
The reason this class is called Proton Pump inhibitors is that there cellular level transport mechanism, pumps, that transfer hydrogen ions( the proton) across the cell membrane into the stomach. Too many of those little suckers leads to all the indigestion and acids reflux issues. The PPI stop the transport mechanism and therefore reduce the amount of the offending agent in the stomach.

Of course with a keto/lo carb diet there was no wheat. I also lost 50 lbs, so that probably helped a lot too. And I still use ACV daily...twice a day actually (but I did cut back the amount). Folks, always remember to dilute the ACV in water or give Steves tonic a try (which is very good btw). You can also get ACV in pill form, but I never tried it.

GERD since high school. Eliminating the Paleo axis of evil (sugar, refined carbs/grains, and seed oils) is a 95% solution for me. Coffee/tea/yerba mate, all seem to cause some heartburn if I go over 1 cup a day, or worse if I'm eating other things that exacerbate the heartburn.
Zero heartburn?: meat, big ass salad w/olive oil/ACV/Parmesan cheese/onion/olives/some other veggies, cheese (I seem okay with dairy). Spicy spices don't seem to be the culprit; on carni days, I've been seasoning my steaks with salt/pepper/chili powder/cayenne pepper with no problems. Love crack slaw, in multiple variations.
Some ex-vegetarians talk about veggie fiber causing bloating or pain; maybe I feel a little more bloated eating lots of veggies, but it never bothers me. Grains, OTOH, man, they seem to cause that special kind of esophageal sand paper pain. I still do pizza night with the kids occasionally and the crust, seed oil (if not homemade), soda and tomato sauce do a real number on me if I overdo it. And ACV doesn't cut it (usually use a bit of baking soda to get through the night). I suspect the keto sweeteners (xylitol/erythritol) cause some heartburn, too, but not positive they're the culprit.
I tried the Serious Keto ACV drink several times and it was genuinely delightful, but I can't say for certain it's better than just ACV/water. I eventually cut out the sweetener. Then just cut out the middle-men and use ACV/water. Guess I don't need a spoonful of stevia to help the medicine go down....

I am recovering from Acid Reflux they were really bad for me, and carbs made them worse..i used to feel so uncomfortable because of those reflux. It's been only 4-5 days with ACV drink + keto and 90% of my acid reflux are gone.
I am so happy that guys like you made these videos about ACV. And interestingly our mainstream doctors don't prescribe these useful things.
It's like i am actually slowly getting convinced, the western medicine is wisely designed to treat symptoms and not cure the disease at all.

I was on Nexium for about 10 years and when I started my Keto Journey, my integrated doctor told me exactly what you just said. He did advise about ACV but suggested to start with I take an "acid" tablet (can't remember the name). I stopped taking the Nexium and took those tablets for about a month, at the start I had a couple of rough days as you did. I haven't taken a nexium tablet in over 2 years. I don't need to take ACV every day but if I get flare ups from not paying close enough attention to my carbs then I take some once a day till things get back on track. Living without acid reflux is amazing. As a bonus 2 months ago I stopped my cholesterol tablets. Just got my BP medication left but that has been halved.

I had a colon blockage due to scar tissue. The initial step is to put a tube down the nose. THAT is when I found out I had a hiatal hernia. The tube kept hitting the wall of my stomach. It was not fun. I occasionally had acid reflux, but my problem was food getting "stuck" and moving very slowly through that compressed area. It could be terrifying. I had to remind myself that I could still breathe, so I would eventually be fine. I had contemplated surgery, but kept putting it off. Then, after I started Keto and lost 86 pounds both issues went away. Completely. Just another benefit to Keto. I add ACV, Lemon juice, and cinnamon to my bedtime sleepy time tea. It works wonders.

In addition to your excellent description of your experience curing acid reflux, you’re a Packer backer! Me, too! I’ve watched other videos you’ve made, and I thought they were quite informative and thorough. I had already started taking ACV pills when I saw the first video with the tonic recipe. I had been prescribed 40 mg omeprazole, which took away the pain, but I was very concerned about the possibility of causing or contributing to osteoporosis. I already have osteoporosis in the neck of one femur, and I want to reverse that, not make it worse. The ACV pills are helping a lot, but tomorrow I’m going to the store to buy the ingredients I don’t already have for the tonic. By the way, I couldn’t find the lemon juice you bought at Costco. Also, I’m moving closer to a keto diet, but I’m not there yet. Thank you for your wonderful video series over the past four years! In conclusion, I’d like to say Go Pack Go!❤

👍Great great great video. I’m 65 years old and have had acid reflux for 45 of those years. I can say, my acid reflux came mostly from grains. At one time I had a large ulcer in my upper stomach and 13 small ones in my esophagus. I could not ingest ACV. After years of PPI’s and ending up taking 40 mg of Zegerid twice daily and being told I would have to spend the rest of my life on medication, I took my health in my own hands. (Seems like doctors only treat the symptoms 😡) I have been on Keto for 14 months now and don’t have ANY kind of acid reflux nor take medication for the whole time. I could tell the difference with my acid reflux after about four days. 1 teaspoon of baking soda keep me going, giving me some relief until the keto fully kicked in. Since all ulcers are gone now, I do take ACV for the other health benefits. I eat anything now. My hobby is growing hot peppers and I eat jalapeños, habaneros and homemade ghost pepper oil regularly with No problems. Again, thanks for going here again 😀

A Hiatal Hernia causes reflux all by itself thru the mechanism of physiology. It forces the LES valve to be held open. As a result, anything in your stomach can reflux backwards up into your esophagus and damage it. Therefore apple cider vinegar and HCL will not help you and will burn your esophagus, until such time as you have the hiatal hernia surgically REPAIRED endoscopically. Once you heal from that surgery, then you can wean off of the PPI, and then try the ACV or HCL (preferable HCL - since it matches the pH of real stomach acid).
Until then, you are pretty much stuck on antacids and/or a PPI, to keep whatever’s in your stomach at a low acid level because it IS going to reflux up into your esophagus no matter what you do - until you get the hiatal hernia REPAIRED surgically. They can do it endoscopically, down your throat, with an endoscope, and put in a couple of stitches. Done and done.

I’d be laying down sleeping and I start to wake up when I can actually feel the acid coming up the esophagus but it happens so quickly that it gets to my throat and causes me to choke and I can’t breathe-it is the most horrible frightening situation. After it happened I was afraid to go to sleep. but thank goodness I had a Doctor-a DO- Who told me that the symptoms of excess stomach acid are the same as the symptoms of low stomach acid. I drink (I don't sip I gulp it) 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar (with mother), a couple of grinds of Himalayan Salt, and a 1/2 teaspoon of potassium (Nu Salt) in 8 to 10 oz of water every day. I didn't and still don't have problems with acid reflux. I drink this every day because for me it is an appetite suppressant, and it is good for you. I usually drink half in the morning before breakfast and the other half before dinner. I have been doing this for eight months now. The taste for me is okay, but I like to drink it fast and follow it with a water chaser. You can buy 3 quarts of the Kirkland Apple Cider Vinegar with mother at Costco for I think about 4 dollars.

I feel like I have a very similar story to yours - I was having a lot of acid reflux and digestive issues, went to the doc and they put me on omeprazole, it worked for a little while until I had an endoscopy and subsequently diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). I was put on pantoprazole for a few years which worked great; my symptoms disappeared, but slowly I found my symptoms returning and I had to take more of the medication to fix the issue. Soon I wasn't having as much acid reflux, but I was always bloated, always sick, always full and scared to eat or drink anything. At the beginning of 2020, I was forced to work from home and stopped eating my at-work breakfast of a bowl of oatmeal. Instead, I started eating 3 fried eggs and a plate full of veggies. Within a week, my symptoms started disappearing. I took my meds less and less until I only take a pill maybe once or twice a month. Grains and sugars were the answer. Now I'm trying to fully get off the meds through ACV.

I hve gone cold turkey which I know is wrong 5 days ago and gone on the tonic. So far so good. I hve only eaten lots of salad and a tiny bit of bread with 1/4 oz of butter twice. I'm waiting for the rebound! If it comes I will go back on 10mg omeprazole - but reduced by removing some of the pellets inside. There are 21. So I will take 14 for a few weeks, then down to 7 etc. I will be over the moon if I can get rid of this ppi. It causes dementia and osteoporosis, to name but two. There are exercises to do to pull down the hernia which I will do once I can find it after the fat has gone. Exercises are on utube. Thank you for this utube.

Along with ACV, and a low carb diet, I take a good probiotic, one that has to be refrigerated. (Not at the same time I take the ACV.) I have taken the same probiotic for over 20 years. Good gut health is so important. Having more good bacteria in your gut than bad bacteria can also help prevent ulcers. I’m 60 and take no medicines. It is a crying shame that instead of telling people what to do to help themselves, they get drugs pushed at them.

an undamaged LES closes properly if stomach pH is restored
damaged LES will not close even with ACV and reflux can worsen
a hiatal hernia will constantly expose the LES to acid. Even a healthy LES can’t handle this for a long time
the esophagus’s ability to heal is the key so do everything possible to keep the lower esophagus always clear of acid

I have been on ACV for a little over one year year and off of pills since day one. I have had reflux twice. Both times eating too much, too late. As for dose, I now just pour two or three tablespoons of ACV in a glass of unsweetened tea or water and drink it 20 minutes to a few hours before bed. Problem solved.
