The troll at the beginning was great. So many people getting so mad. For the corner lights I vote amber covers. Just feels more correct for the era.
I was drooling to take all those turbokraft parts he was going to remove:)
I am leaning towards the Amber indicators and the Big wing ( I didn't think those words would ever come out of my mouth). Looks to be a fun build either way.
Agreed on the amber reflectors. Think they are more age appropriate. Think the car would look great with the yellow cup style head lights they tried before as well.
Amber on the front looks good, breaks up the clear and also adds an accent to all the black of the bumper/front fascia!
Honestly liked the original wing better than the options, bumpers look great tho. I like the tint too, not a fan of black cars but it's looking good.
As an aircraft mechanic that has years or experience on piston engines. The work to be done on the engine looks intimidating, but it’s really simple. I love how simple air cooled engines are. We have the exact same issues on planes.
Radials are better than all others, but man they leak oil. Went to a local engine run of a Bristol Hercules (Nanton), and man was there a lot of oil.
I'm in shock that it was 8 years ago that you rebuilt the Porsche! I had to go back an confirm for my sanity! I started following you guys right at the beginning when you started the ASS2000 project, so I guess it's true! It's been a fun journey watching you guys grow. Here's to 8 more amazing years!
Forget the purist, drive what you love
Preach!
Exactly! Who cares about purists? Unless they're purists of having fun, because that's what driving should be about😉
Amen to that
Until you want to sell it...
Money is just money. Swapping is more fun and please drive it often after the swap.
Soooo hyped. I loved the original series. Glad you're getting back into this car again. Love seeing it on the channel.
Rock on!
Race wing, carbon fiber lip up front. I think the amber turn signal would look good slightly tinted along with the clear one. Would blend them. Modernizing all the exterior lights would really bring change the look, specially with the new wheels. Excited to see where you take this 🤘🏻👌🏻
I like the amber on the front number, breaks it up yet matches the side marker on the fender as well.
I really thing that race wing looks great. Matches the huge wheel flarebody line
Agreed, think it looks awesome. Really suits the black widowmaker reputation at the time and makes it look really aggressive. The added air feed would definitely help with engine bay coming as well.
Love to see the 930 getting an update. Also appreciate watching PT working so carefully and meticulously on R/R…there’s a real Bruce Lee economy of movement to seeing both of you work together
The updates look great!
Re: Wing - Any updated Motorsport design would go well with the mechanical and aesthetic changes you’ve done.
Re: front splitter/lip. You could also go the motorsport route where they usually start with some flat stock plastic/Kevlar/carbon sheets trimmed to meet the target design, and bolt it up. It also functions as a sacrificial part to prevent bumper scraping/paint damage.
So the story of this video is... Man cheaps out on fixing oil leak, spends loads on non-essential body modifications instead 😂
You misunderstand - the oil leak is a feature! It tells you there is oil in it!
penny pinching on not installing A/C or buy a model with it, as im getting the vibe that's why he doesn't drive it all that much as it's a summer day 🌞and $$$ black/hot ( leased a dark/black vehicle never again way to hot/i cooked my lunch in it at work and burned-me ect ) car equating to it just sitting in his garage/shop under a car cover, body mods aren't going to change that factor or the leaking oil's not being fixed
comings from a now 60's charger owner 😉 and something iv had to consider ect as well on things like keeping my A/C and makes the wife happy that i looked for 1 with it already
Bucket list car. Updating all the suspension rubber bushings to fresh ones will transform the car. Love this update, very cool
Screw the purists, Phil at driftworks has set the levels 😂
I can attest that the heater doesn't work that well :-) I did a road rally in Vermont in November in one of these and it was like someone blowing mildly warm air on you with a straw. Was certainly a fun time though!
probably had a leaky heater box or stuck valve then, heat works great in the ~100ish 911s i’ve had the pleasure of working on/driving in
I'm usually not a fan of huge spoilers but that second option wing I think is just the right amount of crazy
Yes, 500whp deserves a big wing
Holy shiz first? Also, not gonna lie you had us in the first half
I loved the original series for this 911 but this is going to be wild!
Looks like a 993 GT2 wing maybe?
For the front lip, you should have a custom one made from carbon. I think downforce solutions is really good and custom work and can probably turn it around quickly. All I believe they would need is a quick underbody scan. Otherwise the build is so nice probably my favorite one yet. Maybe even clear lens the tail lights too 😏
The title was a good troll 😂 but I agree to run the RS trunk! The "track wing" is overpowering the rest of the body
Honestly I love the flat six but the smart choice would be kswaping it
If you don't go with the Option #2 wing (which looks like a 993 GT2 wing), you're craaaaaazy! It is definitely not too "racey", it flows PERFECTLY with the Ruf front/rear bumpers you're installing.
Excited to see the 930 get some more love! Any plans to refresh other parts of the car? I wonder what good modernized tail lights or singer-style interior mods are out there
Also, tinting the windshield with a clear uv blocking film would be helpful to keep more heat as well
This video has made me realize I have been watching RUclips for way too long because I've been been watching you guys since before the 911 Turbo. Since Targa Newfoundland. You guys were still working out of that tiny garage back then.
The functional air scoops on the larger wing are pretty sweet. Might be the better option even if it’s not the most aesthetically appealing.
I for one was excited for the Honda swap. 😄 Please tell me you have been following the Honda swap Ferrari build by Stance Works.
I love the k series engine, and its versatility as a power unit.. but I’m starting to get a little tired of everything sounding like a straight piped civic.
Glad this isn’t going goon-spec.
Lightweight powerplants are a staple of Porsche. It just so happens that Japan can play yhat game too. This build stays teue to the spirit of Porsche
If you didn't know Pete was a baller, now you do. Happy Father's Day father's!
I might be the only one, but I’ll pass on this build. Wake me up when you are back to something JDM.
It's mixed feelings. You said the motor was rebuilt with forged internals. It looks reliable.
Rubber bumper baby bumper! The window tint is fine. I like both wings, but I'm leaning to the more aggressive one slightly more. 💪
The amber lights look much better
07 cayman 4s is the one to k swap ;] add gt3 wing and Porsche dream is complete
So pumped for this. btw - the 'race wing' is a 993 GT2 evo wing. Popular on the modified 911s!
As much I like the k engine, thank you for not putting it this car specially
Engine out service is the perfect time to do a transmission upgrade 😉
1st option RS 3.8 wing! (blackbird) correct
I like the OG whale tail, the rest of the body kit looks great.
That 3rd wing looks wild, but you might need to run a front splitter to balance it out. And also wider arches/fenders and wider wheels.
Rwb it. 😀
W front bumper i say go with the amber it breaks it up for the lip not sure either do what you like as for the back the RS wing is clean but that BIG BOY RACE wing goes well with the rear of the car i would go with it even if the front is more subtle but thats just my opinion at the end of the day do you DP great video as always i hope you guys are doing well and cant wait for the next video
Home Built By Jeff on RUclips has done amazing work with his porsches including using an aftermarket AC kit that seemed fairly straight forward, as well as some other cool setups.
I like the amber light over the double clear. the big race wing is over the top. having the dual tip exhaust will look mean. i also think the car need bronze wheels, i think it will really pop.
Everytime I watch one of your guys' videos it inspires me go work on my own project car
I remember watching the amazing work done to this car. Glad ur still able to make content with it.
I actually thought you were going to do the K swap! Would have loved to see it.
Should have went down the @Rennch route and put in a subie flat 6!
I love the design of this generation Porsche
K-series clickbait! You got me…
2014? Holy shit... been watching and commenting since the old tiny shared shop you guys had! Cant believe its been that long!
WE MISS KEN! 😆 🤣 i think you guys had around 15-20k subs back then! Love the channel. I will always be here to support you guys! Keep the content coming!
You got me Pete. I was furious for the first 2 and half minutes. Thank God you aren't K-swapping it. 😂
im building a mid engine K series powered super car an even I was watching like "don't do it man" hahah
And here I am, a year later, ruining a 1974 911 with a k24 swap 🤷🏻♂
Phil from driftworks did an electric AC conversion on his 930 recently and it seemed relatively painless. Could be worth looking into.
Ill check it out, thanks. Ive looked a few options and retrofits are insanely expensive and a ton of work to install
@@speedacademy Looked it up and it seems like he used a classicretrofit ac system and it's definitely pricey like you've mentioned. Also looks like it's just a universal kit.
Griffiths ac is the best of the conventional kits. Its not that bad of an install. 2500 usd for the complete kit isnt bad by porsche standard
Symptoms of ocd....Symptoms
Fear of contamination or dirt.
Doubting and having difficulty tolerating uncertainty.
Needing things orderly and symmetrical.
I don't hate this build because I'm a purist, I hate it because the K Series is boring and played out. It was perfect for your 240 build, but this car deserves something more special.
How about a mid-engine Audi V10, or an F136, or 20B?
If you wanna do a wild K Series build, do a CRX.
I really get why you want the car to have a proper catalytic converter.
Some engines just stink up the whole street. Its better with fuel injected AFR o2 sensor controlled modern engines especially the diesels dont really smell bad I actually like the smell of diesel exhaust 😉 but with a setup like this especially when you run spicy high octane fuels a CAT is 100% my recommendation too.
My first memory of the 930 was when i was around 7 or 8 years old watching an old Disney movie from the 80s? called 'Condorman'. I don't even really remember the movie except for the villain chase cars which were all black and setup to look like turbo models with whale tails...loved that look ever since.
Man........😢fell for the click bait hook line and sinker...😢😢😢 I was really looking forward to seeing you do something cool with that car. Big sad, I get it though.
I'd Taycan swap it, purists be damned.
Porsche fan here too 🤙
Good that you are putting a cat on it.
100% amber lights
Wing #2, or wingless 🤙
Narrow body is cooler
Open the big door behind you and throw the orange marker lens as far as you can… close the door!!!
The wing…….
If the last race wing didn’t have the big air duct openings I’d run it.
The RS wing looks more Street-able.
Amber's, yellow tint on the lights and go big wing or go home 🙂. I used to have a picture of a 911 turbo (930) and a tvr 420 seac on my bedroom wall when I was a kid. Dream cars ❤
hello everyone this is my most secure long term investment hahahaha jk. (but no, really, that thing will always be worth money. CRAZY.)
Those body parts are sooooooo awesome!!!!!!
If you are going the drivetrain swap route...How about a 4.5L v8 from a Cayenne? There was a 240sx drift car that someone swapped and twin turbo'd I saw recently.
The bumper supports are specifically pre-deformed so that when you get into an accident they absorb energy in a predictable manner. They've essentially started the crumple so less energy and more specifically a predictable amount of energy is required to continue to crush them. Pre-FEA crumple zone.
Subscribed to your channel when the 930 projest originally aired. Warning bushings and suspension work on a 930 is going to try your paitence, especially in the back.
K Swap = purists "boooo" ... Then electric motor = K Swap peeps "boooo". I personally feel the k Swap is as mundane as LS swap, no personality and no imagination.
Always park your vintage Porsche with an oil pan underneath it. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just the way it is. Go around a military base, and every HMMVW has its own pan you slide under with it when it’s parked.
Clear and clear with Amber LED bulb. Plaid or Houndstooth seat upgrade. 1st wing option if not keeping whale tail. black on black on black.
Wont lie to ya, as much as I'd hate to see a car like this desicrated with a k-series i wouldnt be opposed to somebody replacing the old aircooled Porsche boxster with a more modern variant like a built Subaru EJ30 or EJ32
My God what a machine. That sound is perfect. I like the original bumpers but amber corner markers are 100% cleaner. I think the window tint is a no go.
Peak power aside, downsizing to a K24 & boosting it doesn’t seem appealing... with that said, an LS swap would seem incredibly appealing.
How old is this footage?
I’m sitting here in Australia in trackies and a jumper watching you guys in hoodies etc. isn’t it summer there now?
Also, whale tail removal ….. 😢
3D print brake cooler intake fillers where the more forward turn lights go. Convert the side marker section to turn signals. Less bodywork and more track focused look/function
The way some people try to get a birth year Rolex, I'd dream of getting a birth year Turbo and yours is my birth year. So I'm very jealous and have loved watching you work on it throughout the years.
I'm a Honda/BMW fanboi, and Kseries are one of my favourite engines of all time. But thank God you're not kswapping this one!!!!
I have three words for you PT: Rauh-Welt Begriff. Call Nakai-San and go down the rabbit hole 😂 looking forward to see how this refresh comes up
I like the bigger wing. You don't drive a car like a Porsche 930 turbo to be modest. Lol. Not like you don't make power.
I would go with amber lights, looks more OEM + to me. also great use of duct tape, remember if the women don't find you handsome, they should atleast find you handy.
Hmmm, fixing leak is expensive so You change and paint half body panels and all suspension... Don't get me wrong - i got it and love it too, but not in that reason :-D
You can fix it by draining the oil let sit for a week…clean the crevice out with compressed air and brake clean…try to pick out some of the silicone you added prior then add some really strong epoxy, paint the surface let dry then add oil …😂 it works
Absolutely gorgeous, as I will never own a 911, I’m living my best life through people like you👊🏻👊🏻❤ subbed
I Love the race wing purely for its functional air ducts, and my disbelief that air cooled engines work reliably without gobs of air being forced into them without racecar ducting.
Half amber light for sure. Looks OEM in a good kind of way. The all white lights always comes off as very early 2000's tuner to me.
To stop oil leaks not caused by wear try Teflon based power steering stop leak.
The Teflon particles will buildup in the gaps and the additives swell the seals.
Warning the additives swell the seals so only leave it in a hundred miles or a couple of days at most.
No wonder Harley partnered with Porsche . They both were known for leakint lol jk.
Lucas stop leak and SEND IT 😂
Why would you destroy that gorgeous beast by throwing that engine into it 🤦🏾♂️ damn youtubers destroying the car culture 😢
I'm almost upset that you're not putting the K24 in it. Of course I would have been highly entertained by the purists losing their minds.
isnt this the car you took to chris for the motor. if chris built a motor please dont pull this motor for a k20 until the motor totally goes. this was an origial turbo right.go find a carrerayou dont want to cut that up keep it and buy a salvage 911
It's always weird to me, when people gate keep other people's happiness. When I see someone with a modified car I'm glad to see the owner pursue what he or she wants.
To each his or her own, enjoy your build.
Kswap is the right choice. Cheap, modern, reliable and easy to make power. Sell both front bumpers and get a TBK one!
You do you, purists be damned! Besides, it’s already modified, no going back now! I love it. Hell, go full rwb!
I love that big race wing, I want to say that was an option in NFS Porsche Unleashed 😂 and I wish I could see it in person but on screen it's a legit look for me.
I've had people ask me if I'm going to put a k-series in my S2000 with 52,000 km. Some peoples kids......
I never liked the wheels, I'm just so partial to 80s/90s style gold centers and bright lips either brushed or polished.
When you want to widen something that’s curved cutting it in the middle is often a terrible mistake.
Find the flattest straitest part either side of the middle and cut it at a forty five degree angle.
But before you do and cutting take a mould of the area to use as a guide to shape and secure the parts while they set.
If this base gasket leak is a common issue I would think someone would have tried machining and o-ringing them. Is that not viable?
