For some strange reason I feel that playing Metallica in a dark twisted alternate dimension filled with monsters intent on eating you and dark clouds of red lighting is very appropriate and definitely metal!
I loved both of thus scenes but I find myself more dragged into max dying scene. She telling Lucas she didn't want to die, being blind and unable to move, crying, Lucas into so much pain and both actors doing a good job was just pretty fantastic to me.

My kids have now become Metallica fans because of this very scene. It's easily one of the greatest metal scenes of all time! I can't hear Master of Puppets without thinking of this ever again. So great!
Whoever chose Metallica’s master of puppets for this: hats off to you dude. It’s not only a sick song, it’s also a double reference: 1. The bats having to obey following the music because that’s what they do 2. Max Obeying Vecna because she is trapped by him
I think they totally should have done "For whom the bell tolls" it fits the grandfather clock with Vecnas curse and it literally says for whom the bell tolls like Vecnas victims
That's actually the show's creators... they reached out to Metallica with a synopsis about the episode and explained why "Master of Puppets" had to be the song, why it fit the narrative of the episode, and Metallica (being fans of 'Stranger Things' themselves) immediately signed off on it
Eddie was a hero. He chose to save the people of Hawkins despite the fact that they hunted him down and called him satanic. Real heroes are the ones who hide in the shadows and never seek glory.
“The one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall die trying. In spite of everything you’ve done for them eventually they will hate you, why bother.”
Aside from Eddie being a total legend, it's also ingenious that they found a way to include Billy in this scene. The two shared their taste of music, but in everything else they wear basically polar opposites.
@@jmoore1988 hey hey hey, Black Sabbath and Metallica are both good in their own right, to the degree that you can't even properly compare them, the way their sounds are so different from each other, and the general unique FEEL they give off in each of their songs almost puts each in different genres, Metallica is much more of a thrash/headbangy music style, while Black Sabbath is much more focused on the vocal aspect with the AMAZING talent of Ozzy Osbourne. Both are legends, both equal, neither better.
Metal has been so “off mainstream” for so long. But the genre is so good, all you need is to insert it in pop culture and younger people will start appreciating it for sure!
People are taking this as a trend. Not taking this as a way to get Into Metal. Hell, they’re not even appreciating it. The appreciation I see for this is Metalheads like myself and my fellow metalheads.
Does nobody remember guitar magazines having tabs in them? Am I that old? Apart from probably learning the majority by ear, between (likely) guitar tabs in a magazine, and listening to the song over and over, he easily could have mastered the song very quickly. Clearly the biggest (and possibly only true) metal head in Hawkins was very skilled at guitar and would have spent lots of time learning the songs he loved, new and old.
Try 3 weeks to learn it not a year 😉 Season 4 (per official confirmation from the production team) starts on March 22 1986, all the main action in the final ep (when Eddie's playing this) happens March 27, and the "2 days later" that the season ends on is March 29th (ironically Billy Hargrove's birthday per the gravestone they show us). The album dropped March 3 1986 & Eddie mastered it in 3 damn weeks; he's an effing god 🎸
The most iconic scene I've ever seen on TV. Seeing Eddie playing Master of Puppets in The Upside Down while being attacked by the Demobats is an awesome scene. Eddie truly did die a heroic death.
literally everything about this scene works with this song. ‘Where are you going Maxime?’ Older brother hammering against the door. The driving hetfield riffs and Hammett Solo. It’s like it was written 30+ years ago especially for this scene. Absolutely loved this and Kate Bush’’s runnign up the hill - also paired well with the near death scene. Great work Duffers.
James Hetfield was so impressed with Eddie's guitar work that he even provided vocals from the "normal" world loud enough for everyone to hear. Best guitar scene in a TV show/movie I would say.
That would be the cutting heads scene from the movie Cossroads with Steve Vai and Ralph Macchio... which coincidentally came out in 1986, same year as Master of Puppets.

Considering Master of Puppets was released one year before when this scene is set, Eddie must have had an AMAZING play by ear skill
Try 3 weeks to learn it not a year 😉
