It has been a while since I have heard Legend talk about a campaign with real enthusiasm in his voice. This one definitely hit the mark, nice!
Que creative assambly to nerf malakai to spite the community
@@kindkindred SFO saves the day again...
@@austinwhite3575 Don't expect SFO to buff Malakai lol, in general Venris thinks Malakai is way too strong too quickly, thunderbarge getting no stat changes etc.
@@austinwhite3575 SFO has been dogshit for so long now man, it will not save anything
This is a great campaign. Dwarfs are my favorite race and I also love migrating/cruising around the map, Malakai is a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, a campaign where the objectives actually feel rewarding.
Enjoy it while you can lads :)
@@darthtom100 why are they planning to nerf it?
I’m in the middle of one right now doing my best to beat the snot out of chaos. Hoping I can eventually turn south and wreck the chaos dwarves but chaos is difficult to deal with.
@ryanmaris1917 don't let yourself get bogged down up there trying to protect settlements. I gave up and just started selling my norscan settlements to kislev when moving to take on chorfs. Much easier to defend elsewhere.
Lost for words, this much energy from Legend on Dwarfs? Unbelievable. And well done CA for releasing something this good
"The elves are pretty reasonable people" That's a grudgin!
But than he called them elgi)
Time to make toothpicks out of the Oak of Ages.
@@R3GARnator toilet paper
@@R3GARnator One thing Dawi and Skaven can agree on: This area needs deforestation!
they are rather reasonable. by comparison to raki, Dawi-Zharr, Urks, Grobi, Kazaki-dum, Uzkular, daemons, Ogri, Grombolgi, at least. So most reasonable after dawi and umgi (they try at least). I am missing the Khazalid words for lizard and daemon though
I love all of the ToD content, but I have to agree. Malakai's campaign is amazing. I painted the map with him. I hadn't don't that since Wh2.
same here
You know its good when the brutally honest aussie gives it a 10/10
THIS is the kind of content we have been asking for CA
Grimgor, Black Ork, production of the Chaos Dwarves, mby not a miss-tag, although feel the missing Chaos Dwarf should be there too. Great video, can really see the enthusiasm for the campaign :)
Only reason he wouldn't is he tried to kill all of them the moment he was borne.
Probably beacuse of geography. Zhatan is in bumfuck nowhere he is in no way stopping you from actually repairing the underway. To me it seems fine the way it is.
I am always astounded about how much good players get done way below 100 turns.
A good offense is the best defense. The tougher a faction becomes late, the earlier you should take it out.
The best players don’t waste any turns. Too many players (me included) just skip through stuff each turn or forget and by turn 80-90 we could have achieved so much more if we were more efficient with movement / spending / battles / recruiting / provincial settings and other mechanics
Malakai's campaign is definitely a highlight. Super fun to play. My only issue with the Dwarf rework is that I wish once you maxed out the Age of Reckoning, the grudges you settle would overflow to the next Age. Even if it was only a % of them that transferred over, I'd appreciate that.
Dang I’ve never been this early so I’ll take this opportunity to say: SHORT?!?!
SHORTTTT
SHORT?!
Ur ma’s short
NO ALLIANCE
that's a grudgin'
I know it isnt max, but I love having Gotrek, Felix and Ulrika in same army with Malakai. Living the Beast Slayer story.
Thank you for making this Legend! Been hoping you'd make more of these with ToD, just love these reviews. I often shuffle the playlist and let the first entry tell me what campaign to play next :) keep up the good work!
Malakai's campaign really blows all the other dwarf campaigns out of the water. Theres just so much going for it. But the grudge system makes all of them a lot more fun.
not just other dwarf campaigns, but it one of the most interesting among all
Irony how the one that Legend streamed last and was hesitant about, is now the one he likes the most....
Malakai's campaign is what the realms of chaos should've been
Bingo
I love the scaled down realms map
But the gates are stupid, should be like imrik or Malachi quest battles
Honestly these campaign reviews are great content, especially because you simply explain the mechanics and how to use them well. I enjoy campaigns a lot more when I have a solid grasp on how their mechanics work from the get-go, I hope to see more of these!
I really appreciate the campaign reviews, btw. I hope they perform well as I'd love to see them continue.
Love that you start with felix and gotrek too.
I started playing this one after I saw your latest unit tier list for dwarves and I am also loving it, still a bit complicated but interesting. Thank you for motivating me to play WH3 again 🙂
I've been having a great time with the Von Draken and haven't had the chance to get round to Malakai yet. Definitely looking forward to it!
I enjoy listening to your respect for the lore. Calling the Asur Elgi tipped me off that you're a real fan. Love your work my dude
The whole rewrok on dwarfs feels really good indeed, had a blast playing Thorgrim Malakai and Thorek still it feels they got the short stick (jeje) compared to the empire that got Franz and Gelt a rework on top of that making each one unique, outside of Malakai and Thorek a little the others got nothing special.
12:40 SHORT-ly!? thats a grudge!
At least every main lord of a race should get unique mechanic. I wrote so much comments about that. CA in the meanwhile want this game dead.
@@kapixniecapix3869 takes time and money CA arent exactly swimming in either right now lol
@@MEGABUMSTENCH They could do it slowly, one or two lords per dlc.
They did it with ToD so definitly they can do it. Thing is if they are planning to close that game in a year there is no point to invest.
Dwarfs were my favorite race prior to this update and this just further cements them in that spot. Malakai’s campaign is so much fun, you can really play however you want. Thunderbarges are insane, five of them fully up upgraded can take on 20 stacks.
Nice review. I have some issue witch dwarfs but this changed my mind :D
I have a lot of fun with this. Glad they did this well!
I played the campaign of the realms of chaos map because it allows me to finish a campaign without getting fatigue and giving up before meeting long campaign conditions. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend trying the dlc campaigns on RoC if you like a shorter, more quest-driven campaign. I'm excited to try the long campaign next though, this is one of those campaigns I wouldn't get fatigued on. Basically new Ikit.
anddd, I am about to buy that DLC. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for the video
Oh his campaign is a blast have not played as far as you here but great so far .
So basically, objectives > sandbox. I completely agree, and have always agreed. Ever since the vortex campaign. Glad you've finally grown into it
Its sad we did not get more Malakai streams. I watched the entire thing (i rarely watch Legends streams) and i crave for more.
Probably one of my favorite campaigns so far. The mechanics made me want to go out of my way to unite the Dwarves and help the Empire as to ease up my fronts and support my wars against the Orcs and Skaven, which I realized was the oddly a perfect parallel with the lore.
tldr: Good shit
I would have liked to see you play more of the campaign, kind of sad we didn't get to see you play the continuation.
Trollhammer torpedos are excelent at taking down Skarbrand before he even reaches your army.
I knew that the campaign with the Master of Innovation faction with Malakai Makaison would be the most fun. I'm playing it right now and it's very fun and varied, even more so with the new units and the improved units.
I like the new dwarf confederation system but in one of my campaigns it seemed to have bugged out and required that I settle ridiculous amounts of grudges for long dead lords.
As a long time Dwarf player, this last DLC/patch really made me happy!
Been thinking of doing a Thorgrim "clear the book" campaign. With the changes to the AoR mechanic no longer scaling based on worldwide grudges seems like it would be a fun campaign.
Hey Legend, great vid! Could you also do the "X first turns" video format as you did in the past, for the new factions ? Cheers
my favourite dwarfs campaign by far !
had a ton of fun with this one
aww sweet more leaks
The Fallen Ones grudge isn't bugged. It unlocks the underway to the east by having you wipe out all the factions that can use the underway stance in that part of the world. Essentially you're clearing out threats to the underway in order to unlock its fast travel.
It's my new favorite campaign. So much to do, lots of power but also lots of ennemies. ToD is good times for Empire and Dawi enjoyers!
EVERYBODY WAKE UP!!! Campaign reviews are back!!
My first VH campaign that i completed
They did a great work with this dlc. If they do also with other abandoned factions is something to consider invest in.
I've done both the immortal empires and realms of chaos campaigns, and jeeze is it weird.
In both cases I conquer then get kicked off the norscan peninsula, with me having to retreat to various holdouts.
Realms of chaos I had to flee to albion and build up power there, before sweeping the south and then eastward.
In immortal empires 50% of the dwarven factions were eliminated by turn 15, and the rest by 30, with only belegar making it to around round 50, so all grudges had to be settled by me.
The forces of order were on the backfoot the whole time, with kemmler taking the western empire, and azrag cutting the heartland in half.
Araby was a contested nightmare, and skarbrand was as far south as the edge of the southernmost mountains, and as north as the border princes, and the lizardmen had the northern half of cathay.
The fact they have added mechanics to the more recent campaigns that give you incentives to keep playing is a great thing. Not only does an individual campaign have replay value as you can go a different choose-your-own-adventure route each time, but there are also lots of things to do over the course of 100+ turns, and some you can't realistically accomplish by then on harder difficulties. (That aside, I realize there are players who basically ignore all of the mechanics and achievements and just blitz-conquer because that's all they've ever done, but then I'm not sure why they even still play TW games.)
Regarding "The fallen ones" grudge, given the reward is underway network in the area, Grimgor makes more sense because he's in the area, whereas Zhatan is busy visiting the Chinese.
My only complaint with the dwarfs is that the Underway network feels like it's too little too late in the campaign. I finished my campaign at turn 100 and I only used it twice, it takes a very long time to unlock, there's a pretty big cooldown between armies and since all the dwarf factions get wiped out, you're the one that has to control all those territories, meaning you already have armies in there. It's useful for reinforcing a front where someone declared a sudden war or something like that but it's not like the Wood Elves being able to teleport almost anywhere very early on. I'm not saying it should be but I'd say the Underway network should be unlocked as soon as you have 2 Karaks under your control (or met another dwarf faction controling their karaks), and then have it work like the caravan system, if there are no enemies in the way or the immediate surroundings then you unlock the next destination. That would mean needing to change a bit the rewards for the Legendary grudges, either a substantial cooldown reduction for the "Fallen kingdoms" one and a completely new reward for the Norscan one since it doesn't really make sense for this one to provide cooldwon reduction when there weren't any dwarf holds in Norsca iirc
People give the Changeling a lot of shit, but I really like their "quest log" of objectives to accomplish. It seems it was also a massive inspiration for Malakai's adventures. I always like it when the goal isn't the usual "paint the map".
I’ve tried a few times to play him but get annoyed when some of the lower Schemes get aborted for no reason.
Aye thats a grudging
CA need to look at this type of campaign and replicate it across the old factions, having a multi-layer campaign that gives you long and meaningful objectives is what we want
This was the best campaign in w3 and maybe even among all warhammer total war franchise for me. I am sure I will play it shortly another time or two in a near future.
tbh seeing malakai campaigns makes me so jealous. I can't play it, not because I didn't buy it, but because gyrocopters crash my battles, so either disband or autoresolve. But seeing legend helps!
Are you running any mods?
@@37thgungrunts no...
Have you tried veryfing game files? You might've gotten something wrong when you downloaded the update.
@@TheRewasder97 did, unsubscribed from all mods even if not using them, uninstalled the entire game and installed it again. Still maneuvering with flying units in battle crashes the entire thing.
@@Sandriu I recommend uninstalling the game witha program called Revo uninstaller, it gets rid of all the leftover crap that steam/windows doesn't delete, sometimes it helps with weird crashes like that
As Black Orks and Grimgor is a byproduck of Chaos Dwarf Experiments I think he is included in Chaos Dwarf Grudges
i love this campaign but ive been having an issue with the dwarf campaigns in that a bunch of the legendary grudges that have a bit of progress on them will fail once i hit turn 50.
I would suggest you try "Malakai World Tour" mod too. Which make thing even more fitting like you play when Gotrek and Felix adventure too.
That mod looks awesome. I personally hated the AoR 10 turn timers
I’ve been struggling to take the northern chaos wastes once I had finished off most of the Norscan factions. That and GreenSkins encroaching through Chorf area
I just reinstalled warhammer 3 and have been enjoying Malikai though i will need to move it onto a SSD soon I think just getting bored waiting between 10-15 mins with or without mods
Nah nah nah. That's a feature.
Do house work between turns, or do some push-ups/situps.
Twwh2s long turn times were genuinely the cleanest my house has ever been
@@37thgungrunts hahaha 😂😂😂
There's currently an issue in the game where dark elves spam out ridiculous amounts of black arks, and causes the turn timers to be longer.
There's a mod on the workshop called "No sacrifice to Mathlann for AI" that should fix this issue until CA does something about it.
I would recommend an SSD for it though, turn times are ridiculous without one.
I think the rework for the dwarfs on its own would have been great for the factions. Malakai is just the cherry on top with a great campaign on his own.
Personally I like the idea of giving you the ability to confederate other lords of your faction in a way even if they have been defeated.
To be honest I watch Legend play this game far more than I actually play it!! CA lost me at SoC, own this DLC but not played. Didn’t play this due to its faulty grudge system at release. Might start a campaign in a couple of months time.
Amazing what CA can produce when they put slightly above bare minimum effort in
It’s the yearly month of work followed by 11 months of burying their head in the sand, the CA formula.
Question for everyone here, does anyone else get a bug with Belegar’s confederation where the ancestral spirits spawn at your capital all on the same tile and are thus unable to move? I’m not sure if it’s linked to a mod, I doubt it as most of my mods are cosmetic only and the only gameplay mod I have is the end times crisis mod (which has a whole bunch of other issues I can reliably navigate)
Its just nice to have a Dwarf Legendary Lord that isn't some grumpy old geezer obsessed with tradition while sitting on a chair
It's been the most interesting campaign I've played in TWW3 for ages...
The Dwarfs are a lot of fun now and Malakai has great mechanics. The Dwarfs finally got a good rework!
Easily a top3 favorite campaign in TW3, and sadly it's both so much better and more fun than the other dwarf-campaigns that I'm not sure I'll play a different LL if I want to play dwarfs. There's just so much to do (Objectives, Grudges, Adventures) that feels fun and rewarding. 10/10 campaign for sure.
gow do you keep goign if you get so much done and the underway special travels not done yet>?
Love the campaign. You also get Gotrek and Felix from the beginning, and Ulrika easier (don't know if other Dwarfs get her as well)
Remember that only upgrading the spirit of grungni matters. Every chaos faction is coming for your settlements and it’s hard to defend with the economy being bad early on for Malakai
My problem with the Gnollengrom (or whatever it's called), is that my enemies don't last long enough to be hated long enough to acquire enough points after the first 15 rounds, so I just can't earn enough to hit 100% after doing so the first time (unless I let them beat me and take my settlements and cripple my economy for free, which takes many turns btw). Any tips is appreciated, 'cause I can't seem to figure out how to complete it without hurting myself (both my faction, and myself via think = hurt).
@legendoftotalwar i think campaign fatique is quiete the issue, isnt there any possibility to improve the AI and make them smarter/better in the game?
Just a small note, if other Dwarf Lords confederate Malakai Makaisson, his summon for the Spirit of Grungni can last the whole battle if you buy the proper upgrade on the Spirit of Grungni ship buildings.
Yeah, adding a little bit of narrative incentive does a lot to keep the campaign interesting
really agree with this. His campaign is intensly hard. You always fight on multiple fronts. If Kislev dies, you die, which is kinda lore accurate
Played a malakai campaign as a horde faction. Simply ignored my regions and only took some land when I needed a breather from the fighting.
Cool I might give that a go. Didn't you need the settlement income?
@@FrogFace64sacking and razing does the trick
i wish when you confederate a LL you get his unique campaign mechanic aswell, makes the LL Hunt abit more rewarding and could make a campaing get absolute crazy xD
I agree 100 percent with everything you presented -but I feel some minor balancing needs to be done as it is an easy campaign.
Was this campaign started before or after the patch that gave u more time to settle grudges for the age of reckoning?
Dwarfs really do epitomize flight of the valkyries.
Hi legend, just wondering even though it isn’t a m2tw vid but i have black bars on my screen when playing. Do you know how to fix it? Cheers
Only problem is when the map opens up after confederation its nearly impossible to get the age of reckoning. I need like 180000 at turn 130
I love the campaign, but I got a few grudges with it that come mostly in the form of bugs. To start I wiped out the dark elves, didn't get the legendary grudge completed for it :T second the requirements to unlock the Underway, such as wiping the chorfs, took so long into the end game there was no point, in fact I still haven't unlocked it despite wiping them out almost entirely. 3rd, and this is probably because I used confederate defeated lords mod, but I could not reasonably reach the grudges needed to recruit anyone, Ungrim had like 100k+ grudges required to overtake him despite him only having 15k grudges in total while I was around 50k.
You can finish the minor objectives after the quest battle and still get the unit buffs from them, but yeah it’s a really good campaign
They gotta put this same love and dedication into the Lizardmen rework. Like they felt left behind in WH2 in 3 they almost not playable.
Shoutout to CA for the thrones of decay DLC. Can we all now tell them to bugger off with Cathay and work on Slaanesh & Khorne???
This faction is complete bonkers, overshadows every other dawi.
Absolutely love the legendary battle vs the skaven, wish there were more battles like that.
I don't think overshadows is the right word. All dwarves are powerful now, even thorgrim.
@@perrymerilagreed. I played my very first real Belegar campaign the other day after toying with Malakai in 2 separate playthroughs, and his buffs after getting Karak Eight Peaks still feels VERY strong.
That and the fact that you're in the perfect position to confederate 3/5 other Dwarf LLs and still maintain a contiguous empire.
Malakai wins out in terms of campaign longevity though. Legendary Grudges were bugged for me and I had no real desire to keep playing after I conquered/confederated the main dwarf holds.
Malakai is so much fun
Malakai it's so fun that i played 3 campaign in a row after i finished them by taking 275 settlement
I know you don't really do mods but I feel like you'd really like a lot of what Victory Condition Overhaul does. Gives everyone lore appropriate goals and rewards.
Dwarves seem set for a 'This Is Total War' campaign
I never played dwarf before this dlc, and seeing the units I used most are either massively buffed or never existed makes me feel bad for who plays them before
I played a pvp Campaign against a friend (me skrye and he malakai), i had to bring 2 fullstacks of weaponteams to deal with 1 army of gyrocopters and still got like 60% casualties because of the Spirit of Grugni.
Balancewise this faction is a nono but its fun to play imo
Legend, Now that Ultimate General: American Revolution is out on Steam (stilll Early access) are you going to try it?
Now that Malakai has his ship mechanic is time to give Lockhart his own black ark
so hes like a changeling when it comes to campaign direction?
Hey Legend first of all thx for your vids. Would it be possible, as addition to the campaign review, to make a short overview on the possible dwarven doomstacks (or strong army compositions)? I don't (and i guess many others) have the overview over all the traits and hero combinations etc.
Or, hear me out, play the game and experiment. Do you think people build skill without practice?
Does anybody know when Karanak is coming out?
