      @staceyhunt6769 10 месяцев назад +43

      I tend to have a "You can eat it now, or I can put it away for later" thing. If they aren't hungry right now, fighting won't help. But effectively telling them to starve causes a whole host of issues too. And even we as adults don't always feel hungry when we 'should' and often do when we 'Shouldn't'.
      When they are hungry, calmly get their food back. Refusal, calmly away. They know they can have food if they want it. That you are willing to provide it. The rest is up to them.
      Additionally, it needs to be a different ball game if they really do not like it. If they're gagging on a food instead of just not eating, then that's a no. Simple as that. They're humans too. Everyone has their stuff. Some more than others but it is what it is. For example very few in the UK would be able to stomach natto, or durian. And that's fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I lost it when he directly looked at her saying "Sam" when the nutrition expert told them about the need of change in the eating habits. As if it's only her responsibility to make sure the kids are eating healthy - you know what I'm saying? Shout out to the expert who called him out and said he needed to back her up. These are YOUR kids, not only Sam's. If you "have no control" over what your kids eat, maybe you can try backing your wife up for cleaning the kitchen so her concerns about it getting messy would be helped? I think Michael’s parents are trying but he’s a willful boy and most kids are. It’s all how you approach a child. My little cousin was a sickly baby too, and he got very attached to his mom. So when she went back to work, he got separation anxiety. He would only eat muffins, chicken nuggets, and pastina. So when I would babysit I’d make it a point to make what I gave him fun. Fruit was easy cuz it was sweet and I’d put it in fun shapes. Veggies he would eat cut into sticks, cuz he loved anything he could play with. And I let him choose. He could choose his vegetable and he could choose his fruit. But either way he ate fruit or vegetables.

    • @evieechan498
      @evieechan498 Год назад +7

      That's a great approach for little ones, and I'll probably do that when I have children. I definitely love the shapes idea!
      And I think you're right. There should be a level of autonomy in the process. Offering choices of veg and fruit, and making it a game they can have fun with will most likely foster enjoyment in the foods. The child will be more likely to have them more often if it's fun and engaging.

    If you don’t introduce it to them in the first place then you don’t have a problem. Pretty simple. If you KNOW it’s bad, why teach your children to eat it? They can’t flip out for junk if they don’t know it exists 🤓

      True. I took juice boxes for my children to drink at birthday parties when coke/sprite was being served. The day came when they both begged to have a soft drink. So, I emptied a sprite bottle and filled it with tonic. Neither asked for it again. Trickery? Yes, but both are in their late 20s and aside from a morning coffee, they only drink water.
      However, I can see that parents who are strapped for time might turn to quick, take-out meals. The easier part is saying "No" early on. It's a lot easier than enforcing it after 6+ months of eating whatever they want.

The cooks decide on what's going to be on the menu and they never have the same thing more then once a month, it's always something different every day. I am a mother of two. Fortunately our kids were not spoiled with junk food. Kids will eat when they are hungry. Kids will eat what's in front of them if they know they don't have another choice. I learned that growing up with 6 siblings. There was no choice of food, no one asked us kids what we like for dinner and no one cares if you don't like something on the table.
    I remember my sister had a friend who was the only child and her Mom kept complaining that her daughter didn't want to eat ( I am sure the mother asked her only child what she wanted for dinner everyday). My Mom said to the mother," Bring your daughter to our house and have dinner with my kids(7of us)." She did come for a while and ate with us, no problem.
    My response to the kid in the video who didn't want to eat his dinner and want something else is : ignore him, clean up the table and put him to bed as if nothing happens. If he cries hungry, tell him that just for this time, he can have another chance to eat his old dinner, next time, he's going to bed hungry.

    THIS really angers me, the mothers saying while shaking their heads, " He love fish and chips" like he went out and bought it on his own. Children need fruits and vegies, well cooked meats, home made sweets, fresh juices, milk, NOT grease, salt and sugar. You ruin their health and think it is CUTE to see them eat this unhealthy food. Soft drinks, Oh my. My children were in elementary school when they had their first soft drink.

      ALL ultra processed food is 'bad.' Obesity, inflammation, heart disease, diabetes, a laundry list of problems caused by ultra processed foods and the companies that prioritise profits over human health.

    For the parents like ones above the chips shop- get a kids plate with a suction pad on it so kid cannot throw it. Secondly just leave the kid to eat. If they don’t eat, they don’t eat. Once they are hungry they will eat. If they loose a little weak gut at first so what the kid is probably over eight with all that junk. Do NOT give in. It’s healthy or nothing. Leave kids to explore their food don’t try forcing it down them.

      @JJ-gr9yz I'm not talking about kids with genuine medical problems. I'm talking about toddlers who are just being demanding fussy eaters. If a child genuinely has a medical problem, then yes, I'd approach in a totally different way, but none of these kids did. They were just fussy controlling kids with parents who gave in to them. Also, denying kids junk is absolutely fine. No kids should be eating junk food. My parents were brought up with a - you eat what you are given or you don't get dinner. I don't mind if kids don't like the odd thing. But no kid should be refusing every healthy thing and only consuming rubbish.
