Fun fact: Hakita, the main Dev and music maker person of this game actually made this 4 hours before this part of the game released. He was getting ready to release it and was like "oh no, I forgot to make a song for this fight", and made this awesome song and put it in the game hours before release.
Quick thing to note: he made the midi version 4 hours prior, then remade it with the nutty riffs afterwards when he got sleep Still fucking crazy imma be real
Yeah Ultrakill's overall aesthetic of that old school retro fps like the days of Doom and Quake is definitely on purpose, complete with the type of ost it has. Its just that the dev Hakita decided to do that but crank the game straight to 11 so visually it becomes this fast paced psychotic action game that happens to be a fps. Gabriel is basically what happens when you take the concept of fighting someone like Vergil in Devil May Cry but translate that to a fps. Its about as bonkers as you're watching it. What with him unironically teleporting behind you majority of the time.
First reaction that includes the monologue, when i play Ultrakill and the construction of some emotions through the Gabriel talking and the song playing was really exciting to the boss fight, and it really feels personal with the player when u understand why he's doing all of these, i hope u played the game before the reacting because it was so powerful to me. Greetings From Chile🇨🇱, i love ur content!
The one complaint I have is that the video example doesn't sound like the final version the developer put on the soundtrack. It's missing a few parts and the guitar is crunchier and less midi-like in the final OST version. Ultrakill is genuinely an amazing game with a fantastic OST though, and all done by a single Finnish madman. Really glad to finally see it featured on the channel. Really hoping you get the chance to listen to Sands of Tide, Duel (Versus Reprise) and Death Odyssey in the future. They're some of my favorite tracks from the game.
Oh boy, can't wait for more reactions. Ultrakill's ost is actually godlike, my favorite being Altars of Apostasy. I have quite literally played that track once per day since then. I type "a" and it's the first thing that I autocorrect to, it's that amazing
Ultrakill is amazing, you play as a blood fuelled robot shooting it's way through hell. This is the theme of the angel Gabriel(that's who was saying the monologue). The boss and game is a extremely fast paced doom inspired fps and the amazing music really fits that! I would love to see a reaction of Tenebre Rosso Sangue or duel(versus reprise)
so, my favorite detail of this song is in the remade version, around 4:10 in this video, 1:40 into the death of god's will - where those held notes in between the guitar lines are harmonics detuned and pitched around either with a whammy bar or after the fact but it's that just barely out of tune "wrong" kind of wailing that I think emotionally resonates really well.
Hey Jesse I’m a recent subscriber whose been binge watching your reactions . I love the content you create and I’m glad you’ve been loving the OSTs people present to you . I just want to say keep up the good work and I hope you someday consider introducing anime OSTs into your reaction catalog . Would love to see your reaction to Tenebre Rosso Sangue from this same game. It's both the intro organ and the rest of the song mixed and the quality level cranked up.
Oh you should listen to ORDER (which also is a bossfight and has a monologue etc beforehand) by Hakita too, I uh still haven't fought that boss myself considering you have to Perfect rank every single level before it to even access him... Tenebre Rosso Sangue by Keygen Church is a collab song and also amazing, plays in a gauntlet before another boss.
Ooooooh I love the ultrakill soundtrack. I’d recommend listening to either Cybergrind, or Heaven Pierce Her “Order” from this game. Both are absolutely insane.
cybergrind I wouldn't recommend, because it's literally a royalty free song and not made by Hakita or Keygen. Like, literally you can find it on youtube sound library.
Somebody hook this king up with a video for the tracks Versus + Duel ASAP. Actually, someone just buy him Ultrakill. Shit, does he have a Steam account? *I'd* just buy him Ultrakill if he'd let me. Other noteworthies include - Unstoppable Force; - basically every Limbo track: Shattered Illusion, Utter Destruction of the Senses, Castle Vein; - Requiem+ORDER, - Sands of Tide+WAR, - CHAOS+PANDEMONIUM - Death Odyssey, - and the reigning king, Altars of Apostasy.
I haven't heard any music from this game but I have heard of it, mostly because of the memes that one of the voice actors post on YT. I actually saw my brother play it a few days ago. The starting monologue is actually the voice actor I was talking about (I think) and I sets up the tone of the fight perfectly. The organ makes sense for the character who is an angel. I love the intensity in this and it really does feel like a serious fight for your life, the string has a very regal feeling and the guitars with the drums definitely give off some righteous indignation feelings. The choir is very appropriate and sounds angelic. Now that I think about it I get some Castlevania vibes from it. This was super fun although not the biggest fan of the midi guitar but there's a version without it so all is forgiven (pun intended?).
Oh you mean Gianni, voice of Gabriel... yes he's a shitposter first and voice actor second (?), and has even played the game with a Gabriel vtuber model, the guy is commited to the role
Aww he didn't share the cover version. The cover artwork for this ost goes hard. Hope you would react more to ultrakill ost like "Chaos" and "Order" by Heaven Pierces Her
I feel like the main reason why the song feels like it doesnt let up, is (besides the incessant beat) that it barely resolves its melody/harmony, when it finaly resolves at the end of a phrase, it is using that as an anacruse for the next, making it feel not like a start or an end (fitting for the right hand of the father) but like a continuous onslaught (fitting for the apotate of hate)
Yeah, you kind of recognize things. Stuff can be new, but familiar. You've seen this before, even if you haven't seen it before. It echoes with your experience. So when something like this just doesn't, it's kind of wild, right? Like, oh...life still surprises ya. It's a good thing. :D
I haven't seen anyone recommend "Tenebre Rosso Sanguine" yet so I have to. Even if you listen to it on your own time check it out, honestly some of the best music I've heard in general.
@@JessesAuditorium doug's comment is incorrect, the composer's name is Heaven Pierce Her. HPH is just the alias that the main developer, Hakita, uses for music. Hey Jesse, From listening to the music I think the person who requested this song gave you the wrong version. The actual music you are hearing is called "Divine Intervention" which is from the first encounter with this boss in Ultrakill. If you want to listen to the song that plays after the monologue I would try looking up "Death of God's Will" again as it goes a lot harder. Hope this helps
Nah this is definitely Death of God's will. It's just that the Soundtrack version of it is way cleaner than the version we got in game, along with some other small differences.
A little sad you listened to this version of the song, as this is an unfinished version without the guitar, which i find to really be an integral part of the piece.
