Awesome. Amazing how Samoans were blessed with such rich traditions, values, and cultural practices that precede and stand the test of time. My beautiful Samoa my love for you will never end.
My brother from far across the seas this is a most amazing video and it speaks of sooo much love and care and the gift of sharing. Thank you for much for posting this. I met some Samoans while teaching in South Korea and they were the sweetest and most amazing fellows a man can wish to meet. Blessings D from a cold and rainy Cape Town - South Africa 💖💖💖
What I wouldn't do for some luau and taro right now. Nothing makes me happier than a family member getting off the plane from samoa with those UMU boxes 😍😍😍😍😋😋☺
Malo le fa'amalosi I can sense your high energy Vibrations You are more CLEAR and CONCISE than any and ALL of the adults in my Childhood.😆 I'm SWOLLEN with Pride as a Samoan... Living in New England!😂😂😎💪 Eventually I'll make a RUclips video of "UMU IN THE SNOW" Won't be as good as Yours though😊
Skills and ingenuity like this are what made the Polynesians the great navigators of the world. I dream one day of tasting palusami. Coconut is my favourite fruit and vegetable.
My best memory of visiting my family in the Islands is my uncles preparing an umu. I swear pork cooked this way is the best in the world - and thats compared to Michelin restaurants I've visited around Europe.
Yeah the best umu is the Samoan umu Malo Usos man I wish I was there I made a lot of umu when I was young so I know how yummy that food will be the best food ever I miss Samoa Soo much and especially the umu food ❤️❤️😋😋😍😍
you probably figured this out by now but we use green bananas (unripe ones you could say) if you were talking about before the fire or after the fire or whatever :p
I mean when your main source of nutrition is coconut and you've been eating it all your life and your ancestors have been too you're gonna come up with creative ways to use it!
Growing up with my grandpa he was a really harsh man about doing a umu the right way a lot of Samoans start the umu by laying the woods down but my grandfather hated that method because the rocks won’t be heated enough so he prefers standing the fire woods up and build around it and the umu will be as aasa as hell he says 😂 I believed it cos I did it and it works and that’s how my dad does it too
Rima Dawson yep it's part of our culture, men cook the food serve the food in the house, the elders parents and he's sisters eat first, men goes fishing, hunting, coconut climbing, men's also does the plantation and the art of Tattooing!**
Just came back from my vacation from hawaii ....they do this in polynesian cultural center....and when they served this food to us ....my god the banana tasted like potatoes
Do you guys bury your lovo. Because my cousins from fiji tried to bury it once but my older brother stopped it and told them 'If your here in Samoa we do it in Samoan way'.
It doesn't hurt to keep doing the traditional way..im pretty sure some already use matches..but its also good to kno how to do it the old way,jus incase someone doesn't have matches at the moment and whatnot..
Awesome. Amazing how Samoans were blessed with such rich traditions, values, and cultural practices that precede and stand the test of time. My beautiful Samoa my love for you will never end.
