The Moa looks fire!!! Love the outdoor stove pops is cooking on. Love the camera ladies laughter right away! WOW! I have been around a lot of Samoans over the last 20+ years, but I have never seen those big grate things for the Taro! Can't wait to see the Faausi (have never heard of it). Fa'afetai Lava for having some English subtitles, that helps out us Palagi's enjoy the video more!💗 When making the sauce, and melting the brown sugar. Is that just a rock in the middle of the sauce? What keeps it burning like that? So cool!!! Wait, it must be the sugar huh?😂 I am actually typing while I am watching, so I am guessing that the Taro paste/dough is being turned into like a Taro Bread? Can't wait to find out! That multi-level umu is Amazing btw! It is also the biggest umu I have ever seen! 2 am and going to McDonalds? 😂...I guess things there are the same as in America!👍 Whoa! @Teine Samoa & Tama Palagi: (hehe) my father-in-law loves to collect modern-vintage style things(stove).. embracing the 60's... sorry, I tried with the subtitles (but thank you)... (Sauce) theirs a steel/metal rack (stand) that's in the sauce.. so the rock is able to sit on top of the rack/stand while pouring the sugar on the hot/burning rock to caramelize the sauce....which will give that extra smoky flavor to the sauce....& because the rock is extremely hot, when pouring the sugar causes that fire to burn like that... Yes, you can have it with just the Taro. but trust me, the sauce completes this dish (Heaven).. I prefer the sauce made this way' instead of the pan. just cause it won't have that smoky flavor... so if you ever get your hands on this dish. I do hope its made the UMU way (which is how its made in this video).. thank you again for watching/Subbing. appreciate its heaps. Thank you again.
@@shirleyfuimaono7169 Thank you for answering all my questions Shirley, I really appreciate it and you taking the time....(sorry I had so many questions). @Jeannette Rodriguez, ohh nice malanga in spanish (that’s awesome I might have to check that out😁)...we would normally use banana leaves instead of aluminium foil. but we decided to use foil. By using aluminium foil helps keep the dough in its shape and prevents the dough from burning. Thank you so much for stopping by and watching appreciate it a lot. Thank you again 💯
@Jeannette Rodriguez, daily we would not grate the (malanga/ or taro) but it’s only when we do this particular Samoan Dessert treat (then we will be grating the malanga/ or taro this way☺️

(hehe) my father-in-law loves to collect modern-vintage style things(stove).. embracing the 60's...
sorry, I tried with the subtitles (but thank you)...
@@shirleyfuimaono7169 Looks like you have a good close-knitted family. That is wonderful. My Uncle actually was blessed to have an opportunity to study Agricultural Science and Botany in your college there in Samoa and then came back to the States to teach students at the University of Hawaii about Polynesian farming and indigenous plants in Samoa.

traditionally in Sāmoan culture
the men do the cooking (the young men doing the intensive labor and the older men guiding them through it).

thats malanga in spanish i love it its so goood from puerto rico but never saw it grated why do you put it in aluminum foil
@Jeannette Rodriguez, daily we would not grate the (malanga/ or taro) but it’s only when we do this particular Samoan Dessert treat (then we will be grating the malanga/ or taro this way☺️
Well done guys looking delicious 😋🇳🇿❤️🤍✌️
