    My experience is that without using the bellows, I have less than .3 of a gram. I don’t like the bit of fines and chaff. Better for me is grinding 21 grams. I add 5 grams of water. 315 grams total weight.

    You prefer this method for v60 or Tetsu Kasuya one?

    Hi, am new to your channel and really appreciate seeing this review as am considering this grinder having a Breville Smart Grinder Pro but needing to upgrade. Are you using the stock burrs or have upgraded to the DLC burrs? Do you have any thoughts on whether it's worth it to upgrade to DLC? I believe I read somewhere that the burr geometry in the Gen II is similar to that of the DF64V which is also similar to Gorilla Gear.

      The DF64 V5 and DF64 Gen 2 use the exact same uncoated burrs. They are a great stock burr, I like them so much, I almost think they are my favorite cheap burr. The DLC is the same burr but coated. I like both, kinda like the raw a bit more but hard to say. Most people I doubt will ever notice the difference. Geometry is quite nice. I have no clue about the gorilla gear.

    I’m struggling with this grinder. After aligning the burrs (now at 85-90%), my total brew times for V60s won’t drop below 4:30-5:00 minutes. No matter which grind setting (tried from 45 all the way up to 70). Just seems like it’s producing so many fines.
    Did you not encounter this at all?

      Don’t have this issue at all. Used this morning. Was about 3:10 on 20g. Not sure your overall brew method.

      @@portakeeper tried Hoffman’s improved V60, Lance’s 1-2-1 and 4:6 now; all exceed 4:30 minutes. I’ve been brewing V60s for two years now; before this with a Timemore C2 handgrinder. Still getting used to the new grinder. But so far, it’s been quite frustrating.
      Which grind setting are you at, with your DF64 gen 2?

      I also have this issue. For hoffmann's 3 min recipe. I usually have to go to 75. Which is much coarser than my Timemore C3esp to get the same drawdown time

    "Very bright astringency"
    Is it sour and bitter at the same time

      I consider astringent to be acidic and bitter. This can be a desirable trait. When it crosses over to sour, it is no longer a desirable trait. Bright refers to pleasant levels of acidity.

    How often do you feel you should be cleaning this?

    • @portakeeper
      @portakeeper  Год назад

      Not often if you use bellow and aren’t using oily beans. I wipe down the outside regularly. Monthly if not less.

    The way you pour from the far edges to the middle makes me feel sick
