I’m a 15 year old boy, never knew anything about hair, makeup any of that. But I always borrow my mom’s mason Pearson brush. It makes my hair so nice. Today I got my own for Christmas. My mom has had hers for over 30 years and it’s still going strong. I hope I also can have mine for the rest of my life.
I have had the same Mason Pearson brush since I was 23 years old and I’m 71 years old now. Needless to say, this quality brush holds up throughout one’s lifetime. I don’t remember how I found out about this particular brush. I have always had very, very thick and long hair and the only way I could or would brush it would be with a Mason Pearson brush. Anything else would tear my hair to bits. Expensive? Oh yes. I don’t know what they cost right now, but they were pretty pricey back then, too. When estimating how many brushes one might buy in one’s lifetime, I would say that if you buy one of these brushes, you’re good to go. My brush and I have been together longer than any relationships I’ve ever had 😄.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! Wow, 48 years for one brush certainly makes it well worth the price! I laughed out loud at the relationship comment. 😂
I live in London. I was heading home from work one day, and found a small Mason Pearson brush on the ground. I could tell it was a good quality brush just by looking at it, so I took it home with me. 😂 I had no idea it was so expensive until I looked it up online. It’s a great brush for smoothing my daughter’s hair down with gel.
Your age is 53? No way!!! You look so much younger! Your review is so grear and with my 36 I'm so happy to find youtubers which are in my age range or older because of the great content and life experience they have. Thank you😘😘😘
I've had my Mason Pearson since I was 7 years old, it was a gift from an aunt. I'm now 37, so it's been 30 years :) It still does the trick, but is looking a little banged up and is hard to keep clean now. I'm only now looking to replace it so am researching which one to buy. I have used the Handy this whole time though it was probably technically too small - when I was young I had suuuppper thick and long hair. As I've aged it's thinned out, but still long. I think I'll look at the popular size next, but I'll be keeping my old trusty Handy size for sure!
I loved hearing your Mason Pearson story! That is so cool. I feel like you can totally get by with a handy size but the popular does make hairbrushing go faster and feels extra luxurious. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Nicole, thank you so much for this helpful video! These brushes are quite expensive, so it's great to see them in person, and, get a detailed review of each. Also, you are beautiful inside and out - keep smiling and making great videos!
I have the hand size boar bristle and absolutely love it. After listening to your review, I will be going back for another in the large size to ensure a complete therapeutic experience. Stellar review👏🏻❤️
I have had my All Boar Hair "Popular size" for over 50 years and I still love it! The back has some scratches I think the bristles are a little shorter now, but I will have this forever! I also have 2 smaller ones bought in the 70's which are a mix of boar hair and nylon and they are my travelling ones which are also loved. Work out how much this has cost me over the years - you will be amazed 🥰
I have the first one you showed, the Popular, mixed and I have had it for over a year and now I am a convert, love that brush! I am always skeptical, I have a tender head, yet long, thick hair and that brush has not disappointed me at all! Merry Christmas! XOXO

You're welcome! I never found a video on these brushes with all the info I wanted so I was hoping this would fill a void. So sorry! :) Sometimes when I invest in these things that last for so long I just buy less makeup for a while LOL! On the plus side these brushes seem to last forever and my silk pillowcases last about 5 years (I never put them in the dryer). How do you like your Slip pillowcase and mask???

has anyone done a comparison of the mixed boar bristle & nylon with the pure boar bristle? I have fine hair but lots of it, according to the website I should get the all boar bristle one? But my hair gets knotted quite a lot.
Hi Kylie, I have lots of fine hair and while the all boar bristle does get through it, I reach for the mixed bb & nylon more as I find it gets through tangles better. I like the all BB more for brushing out if I've curled my hair or I'm smoothing it out. Thanks for watching!

Going to their website to buy a little one right after this vid! Thank you for an amazing, informative vid!❤
Hi Nicole! Thank you for the video, if you had to choose between mixed Junior or Popular for a first timer purchase which would you recommend? I cannot decide :) it will be my first mason pearson brush! I plan on getting the nylon pocket later on.
My grandmother's brush has lasted her about 60 years, my mother's last brush lasted her 50 years before she replaced it. I defintly recommend them for quality! I have fine hair, but its thic and this bruh literally detangle my hair so well, their is no pulling or tearing (I have a mix of boar and nylon).
I will definitely get one., those brushes seem amazing. I have been suffering from hair loss for already 6 years now... I am always looking for good hair products such as good hair brushes. Thanks for sharing Nicole.
Hi Celine, I’m sorry to hear that you’re suffering from hair loss. One thing that I feel like really helps my hair and is pretty inexpensive is using an Aquis hair towel or turban on my wet hair rather than a regular towel. They are just so much more gentle. These brushes just feel so so good! Happy scalp ha ha. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you so much Nicole for your suggestion. I will alsodefinitely get a towel and will keep you updated. Hair loss is a real nightmare. Thanks again. Have a lovely day
Is the detangler the same as the universal NU2? I don’t see ‘detangler’ on the MP site but see the NU2. I have thick hair strands and lots of hair too. I don’t think the BN ones will get to my scalp? I have a different boar and nylon brush that cannot reach my scalp at all.
So I have a quick question hopefully somebody can help are the nylon bristles that in it very soft and movable or are they very firm and stiff like the ones in the Maryland or the New Yorker
Nice review, thanks! Would the Pocket version be okay to use as an everyday brush for a man? I prefer a handle over the military versions and have short hair that I comb back.
One of mine did that and when I looked into it, what it is, is that when they’re brand new and you don’t have any of your hair’s oils on the brush they can be a little bit static-ish. Mine stopped doing it after a week or two of use. Have a fantastic weekend!
Hi, it does but it’s not as firm feeling as the boar bristle mixed with nylon bristle. You can certainly still get it to feel good on your scalp but you have to push a bit harder. Thank you so much for watching!
For cleaning the brush, could I use a drop of dawn soap mixed with warm water instead of shampoo? Most shampoos have oils in them that coat the hair. Whereas dawn soap removes all oils including the oils from your hair that the brush soaked up.
Hey hope it's not too late but I tried using Dawn dish soap a few times and every time the rubber smelt like it was deteriorating or something. A few boars bristles also started to fall to the side too.
For the past year though, I've been using Dr bronner's Castile soap, washing it the same way as before, and the brush seems to react a lot better to castile soap. That's just my experience though. you do you boo
Hi Sara, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! It would be fantastic if they would come out with a round brush! I do not use my Mason Pearson brushes with any heat as MP does not recommend using any of their brushes with heat. I grabbed this off of their website: Do not use heated appliances directly on or near your hairbrush. Extended heat from a hair dryer can damage the brush. Happy Holidays!!! 💚🎅💚
@@hi-hc3ms, Hi Yelena I did not because you can't use them to blow dry. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect round brush I can use to blow dry my hair.
I have long, fine hair but a decent amount. How do you feel the scalp brushing aspect is with the mixed bristle vs the pure boar bristle? Does the pure boar go all the way through to the scalp for you? Our hair type looks very similar. BTW thank you for making this video, it was helpful!
Hey! I've got similar kind of hair to yours from what you described. I've got both mason pearson with mixed bristle and the pure boar bristle. I would recommend the mixed one since it goes all the way to the scalp and you can actually feel your scalp being massaged vs the pure boar bristle that doesn't go fully through.
Masen Pearson b3 pure boar bristle is the best choice for fine to normal hair in my opinion the pure bristles are longer lasting than nylon which bend easily.
Hi, I don’t have personal experience using Mason Pearson brushes on 2c or 3Ahair but I did find this article in Vogue and it says it makes sticking back curly and or textured hair much easier. www.vogue.com/article/best-brushes-for-textured-hair. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching. 🌸
Thank you Nicole for your review of these brushes. I would like to ask you if you know if these Mason Pearson original boar bristle brushes with nylon can be used also for chemically straightened hair or dry and damaged hair? These boar & nylon bristle brushes are not too sharp for the hair cuticle and do not raise any further damage? I plan to buy one.
I Have had my brush since I was born, although I have recently had it stolen in the Queen Elizabeth 2 hospital. I should have known this particular nurse was going to do something horrible to me...as I overheard her telling another nurse "that I needed to be taken down emotionally " .Do Mason&person make the small pink brush?Do you know where in the UK 🇬🇧 I could buy one?Good vid+thank you
Having tried the boar bristles "popular" needed the mix bristles chose "handy" size for several reasons my hair is currently short pixie in the process of growing out upon checking "handy" was the perfect choice. In a couple of years when my hair is long might treat myself to the popular by the way order ivory white love love the color. 🥰
Unfortunately I think you need to wash a brush semi-regularly with warm soap and water. This would not work for me. I actually like to sanitize my brushes every few months.
I think you have not tried the Koh-I-Noor, so you have nothing to compare with. Then you can not know its value or how good something is. Also their wood pin brush is the best on the planet. It goes through the hair so fast, I was surprised. It is from red alder wood. I will get the largest one from them now. I have the medium/small one.
Totally ridiculous What ppl wouldn’t overpay for. I hope you realize there are great boar brushes for literally any amount of cast $5-$7 dolorama. I used my grandmas boar and boar mix brushes from50-60’s but it was nicer in my sense because they were also made from wood. I have seen one with plastic structure like the mason boar and nylon at the dolarstore so if the name is worth it for you lol
Masen Pearson life changing for me. The first time using instantly changed my hair to beautiful as well stimulated scalp felt amazing. Life changing is true made all the difference growing out pixie! 🥰
So sad.. the detangler is not more available :-( i bought the Popular one last month and the C2 comb and i fell sooo in love. And now was looking around for the Detangler and... :-( such a pitty! Thank you for sharing. Due to your review I finally decide to buy my first one..and i regret that I wait foor years to do so. 🥲

I grabbed this off of their website: Do not use heated appliances directly on or near your hairbrush. Extended heat from a hair dryer can damage the brush. Happy Holidays!!! 💚🎅💚
@@TheNicoleSanchez, thank you Nicole. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect round hair brushes.
@@saraabdelsamad547 Hi, Did you end up buying a Mason Pearson hair brush?
@@hi-hc3ms, Hi Yelena I did not because you can't use them to blow dry. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect round brush I can use to blow dry my hair.
@@saraabdelsamad547 Ok!!!! I am also thinking of buying a Mason Pearson brush so that’s why I asked haha. 😅
Weird, I found the Moroccanoil one to be very scratchy. Are the 100% boar bristle ones soft? I’ve been looking for a soft yet dense brush
Kent makes softer bristles. Look at the ones in white for thin or receding hair. Extremely gentle.
@@Crazymarsist9 thank you so much! I got the mixed ❤
@@queenkoiI have had both types of bristles my hair is normal grey like the pure boar better.
Wow! I thought you were much much younger - you look amazing! :-)
Thank you 🙏 🙂
Masen Pearson b3 pure boar bristle is the best choice for fine to normal hair in my opinion the pure bristles are longer lasting than nylon which bend easily.
Is it good for people with thick 2c/3a hair?
Hi, I don’t have personal experience using Mason Pearson brushes on 2c or 3Ahair but I did find this article in Vogue and it says it makes sticking back curly and or textured hair much easier. www.vogue.com/article/best-brushes-for-textured-hair. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching. 🌸

Thank you very much.

There is a similar brush to this by denman. Can you do a review on it and compare it with the mason person brush.
Can you use the popular on wet hair?
Boar bristle brushes should always be used on dry hair.
I did a huge double take when you said 53. I’ll have what you’re having!!!!😂
Why is it so difficult for people to hit the like button? Anyway, thank you - this helped me choose my brush!
I’m so glad my video helped! I hope you love your brush. 😊
I should have known this particular nurse was going to do something horrible to me...as I overheard her telling another nurse "that I needed to be taken down emotionally " .Do Mason&person
make the small pink brush?Do you know where in the UK 🇬🇧 I could buy one?Good vid+thank you
Great video thanks! Sadly your code is no longer active
Prices please. I know said them, but I'm so tired I didn't hear them
Sorry about that.

Nicole, I just purchased a Mason Pearson brush (popular) and the nylon bristles feel painful on my scalp :(( is this normal?
Nylon reaches all the way down to the scalp. Pure is likely not the best for you. Mixed is a good medium, but you might need pure boar.
Omg i have to read this one day -->
4:30 you just attacked all thinning hair people and I like it
Unfortunately I think you need to wash a brush semi-regularly with warm soap and water. This would not work for me. I actually like to sanitize my brushes every few months.
Time stamp please?
❤❤
I think you have not tried the Koh-I-Noor, so you have nothing to compare with. Then you can not know its value or how good something is. Also their wood pin brush is the best on the planet. It goes through the hair so fast, I was surprised. It is from red alder wood. I will get the largest one from them now. I have the medium/small one.
Olivia Garden the best
i thought u were taylor swift for a minute
Gee, it’s just a brush. $250??!!!! Wha!
They are over priced your paying for the history and name . People are fooled by expensive stuff and celebrities. Time to wake up .
Those really don't compare if you've ever used a Kent or Mason Pearson.
