One of the biggest/best tips I can give as an ex hairdresser is whatever you choose to use on your hair, brush or comb wet or dry, straight or curly hair, ESPECIALLY when you have length, is to ALWAYS start at your ends first, THEN work your way towards your roots.
I really enjoy these deep dives. To most, this video will seem silly. However, to those of us with hair struggles, this hair brush video is right up there with everything else contributing to hair breakage. Thank you, Abbey. We appreciate you.
I really like everything about your hair and everything else about it that makes you look very beautiful and pretty as it is naturally and also your natural beauty too.
as someone with ultra tangly, wavy-curly hair, my go to is a classic tangle teazer on sopping wet, conditioned hair in the shower. It takes a while, though, and the idea of putting it even close to dry hair makes me cry in pain. I also have a 9-row denman brush for styling, that works really well too, and a relatively simple boar bristle brush for the days I've straightened my hair. But I've really noticed there's a huge difference in needs for wavy/curly vs straight hair.
I only comb my hair in the shower with conditioner. I HIGHLY recommend the foxybae round brush. Glides right through. Tangle teezer does nothing for me. My hair is VERY thick and curly. I have saved so many moms of girls with sensitive scalps & the brush isn't expensive. Best brush I have EVER used, its rose gold in color.
That is true. I heard that boar bristles should not be used on wet hair. But I want to buy the bounce curl brush but it has boar bristles and I want to use it on wet hair. So what is true and what not? I also have wavy hair.
oh definitely. I have fine but very coily type 4 hair. so her brush recommendations are clearly for not for me. if I followed her advice, I would be bald. I knew that before I clicked on this video but I'm just watching for entertainment purposes lol. I don't use the tangle teezer but labmuffinbeautyscience said it's a good brush and she has straight hair. I use the demnan d38 which is their detangling brush and the unbrush plus. Also for my hair type boar bristle brushes are for styling not detangling because our hair does not go through the brush like straight hair does. It literally just glides on top which is what makes it perfect for it slicking down our hair. I wouldn't consider them gentle and they definitely cause breakage.
OMG I used to do the same, lol! I recently bought a silicone scalp scrubber and that actually works better for me now. I use it when I have shampoo on my scalp and I brush starting from the top and go down (not in circles like some people show). I use the tangle teazer after i get out of shower and literally takes my a minute to brush my hair out. A good conditioner and leave-in conditioner is the trick too.
My mum bought me the Mason Pearson brush in the large size the exact one your talking about abbey when I was 11 years old… I had massively long hair back then which was/is fine, but there is loads of it… & the brush was perfect. & I can tell you from experience that you are right in saying it’s an investment, it cost my mum £55 in 1993/94… I’m 42 in January, & I still have that very same brush… in perfect condition as iv taken care of it, the handle is resin & yes it can scratch easy but if you have a rag or something designated to the brush to put it on or just chuck it on your bed they can honestly stay perfect. However when you said the current price Abbey 😮my jaw dropped 😮literally! That’s outrageous! Bless my mum, saved for months to buy that brush & she’s now going through end of life care, so it means a lot to me, but I still stand by the fact I believe its one of the best brushes ever made… but the price of it now is frightening, but I guess it was back then…. 😮😢❤❤❤
I think that may just be the USA? I bought the M&P junior about 4 years ago and it was £90 ($115ish USA), obviously still an investment but not $275 (£200ish)! But the brush is amazing and I think I would still save for it at that price!
I was literally just looking at brushes on Ulta’s app yesterday and didn’t end up picking one cause the amount of options were overwhelming and I needed to do more research before buying . But look at my girl abbey, always 2 steps ahead❤
Same! It's my favorite brush of all time & I'm old so have used a lot of different brushes. I also gave my granddaughter one. She's 5 & has long fine straight blonde hair. It's great for her, too. I don't get Abbey's h8 for it.
Mason Pearson has more options for sizes, brush composition, handle color including one with just boar bristles for sensitive scalps/thin hair. And I will say they are less expensive if purchased in England at an approved seller. I purchased mine in January while on a trip to London and I have zero regrets. The woman who sold it to me said she’s had hers for 40 years. I mean… that’s impressive cost per use for sure.
Can you tell me what you paid in London? Hubby travels a lot, so id it worth sending him out in London to save money? Which store please? Would want to make sure it’s not a knockoff!
She talked some about this recently, though not a deep dive! I believe it was in her most recent “5 things I’ll never do again” video. She said she gets a high lift tint, but please check that video for more details!!
I tried both bleach and a high lift. The first time I got a high lift I could barely even tell that my hair had been lightened. Later I tried again with another stylist. I have dark blonde hair that pulls a lot of red and I still didn't care for the high lift. I ended up just going back to my natural hair color.
The Sephora sale is on Nov. 1 for Rouge. I bought the Oribe brush for 20% off a couple of years ago and it is the best brush I’ve ever owned. I LOVE it and it feels way more lux than the MP that I bought in London (a bit cheaper there). My hair is short, thin, and fine. 1B wave. The brush cleaner that Abbey was talking about is the best brush cleaner I have ever tried, especially on the boar’s brush bristles that seem to get fuzzy very quickly. It is so easy to clean both brushes and styling dryers with it. Get a couple. You won’t regret it.
Can you use the oribe brush on wet hair to blow dry your hair with? I have a MP that I have maybe used twice it just doesn’t work for my hair. Huge waste of money for me :(
Hey Abbey, just wanted to say thank you for pretty much saving my fried thinning hair! I’ve unfortunately battled many autoimmune health issues this past year which resulted in depression & my poor hair suffered greatly. I’ve been using many of your product recommendations & following your hair wash day steps & my hair is like new again! Even my boyfriend noticed a difference 😂❤️
You put so much work into your videos, from reaearch, great demo's when needed, to linking, time stamping, pricing, etc and on top of all that, I feel you're honest. Thank you Abbey
Omg, I love the tangle teezer, I have short straight hair and this brush has been my favorite from so many that I’ve tried, including the wet brush… I’ll keep using my tangle teezer because it really doesn’t pull much hair at all. But, thank you Abbey for all you do for your viewers, it’s greatly appreciated!!!
I have given up on cushion brushes.. They're impossible to get clean. With a brush cleaning brush, sure, decently clean.. But sometimes a clean with water and soap is necessary, and in those cases, cushion brushes takes forever to dry.. and we never know if there is mold on the inside. The ones that are easiest to clean (that I've tried so far) is the wet brush speed dry vented brush, and the tangle teezer wet detangle.
Exact same struggles, and exact same conclusion. I now have a Janeke dupe to the Unbrush, and it’s my go-to for detangling. It’s SO easy to keep clean ✨💕 I grew up using cushion brushes (with the ball-ended metal bristles 🙈) and I remember that swirly/squishy sound of water forever trapped under the cushion. A similar brush but with thin plastic bristles didn’t age well at all: the ball tips of course fell off, and the bristles themselves broke off over time. I tried switching to combs for a hot while, but since I’ve started my curly hair journey I looked for a detangling wet brush. The Janeke vented brush has been a reliable, sanitary option -and it cost about €12, sooo affordable!
@@leamubiu i changed to a vented brush too.. One from wetbrush. It does have those balls on the bristles, but very flexible bristles that aren't densely packed.
I'm so glad that you chimed in on the practical aspect of hygiene, as have done a few others in the comments. I hope many more (than the current count of 16 👍) will read them. 😊
I have two Wet brushes WITH cushions…it’s EASY to pop them out if the handle to wash. I pop they out before or after washing, hand dry the handle, air dry the bristle pad, then pop them back together. I always clean them this way. They can be difficult to pull apart and get back together, but I’ve never broken one yet
I have wavy hair and it is best to brush it when the conditioner is in it. For this I use a tangle teezer ultimate detangler - this is really good for wavy wet hair brushing. For boar bristle I have the Denman boar and nylon mixed brush. and I use a wooden brush with very long bristles that is kind of like a dupe for the TEK brushes, but it is even more beautiful and better. I have demoted an older plastic/wood paddle brush to use for hair oiling pre-wash. I follow all your tips, except maybe the brush recommendations I guess , but we have different hair :)
As a fine haired girl with 4c curls I couldn’t agree more about the tangle tweezer. I truly believe your strand size determine what kind of brush you should you use, not necessarily your curl or lack there of type.
Mason Pearson is my favorite! I really, REALLY debated about investing in one, but eventually, found one on sale, and have zero regrets about having bought one. It feels AMAZING and is gentle on my thick, wavy hair. I've had my Mason Pearson for 20 years now, and it shows no sign of aging. I've used it on my hair from shoulder length to fingertip length as I grew it out to donate, and it could handle it all. Definitely my favorite.
@@claireh1508 It comes with a small cleaning brush, and instructions on how to properly care for the brush. You wet the cleaning brush, hold the Mason Pearson bristles-down, and scrub it that way. Then rinse it the same way. I believe that RUclips has some videos showing how it's done as well.
For the mason pearsons brush if you want to try it but not pay over £200 theres a medium version which is just over £100 or a handbag size one for £70. Still an investment and will take longer to brush your hair but they are good brushes. My parents have 1 that has lived by the front door of their house for longer than I can remember and is still in really good condition.
I only use a Tangle Teezer. On wet conditioned wavy/curly fragile fine hair. It is great at distributing products . I don't believe it was meant for hair such as yours.
I love your showdowns… My short attention spam seems to not even exist when I watch these!! I think it’s bc of your personal dynamic. You don’t talk either too slow or too fast, you don’t give less or more information than we need, neither too low or too high voice, no distracting/ overwhelming editing (but, at the same time, you edit just on the right point to make it more watchable and understandable) and so on!! Congrats on your amazing work with this series!
I love my Mason Pearson brush. I got it 10 years ago and used it every single day and it's still perfect! ❤❤❤ I never found a hair brush even close to it in quality. It's perfect for my thin and fine hair
Abbey! You make the days so much better. Learning hair care while just having your videos playing in the background as I cook or clean is so therapeutic!
I have very fine and fragile hair and I love the tangle teaser SPECIFICALLY for fine and fragile hair - the others are definitely too harsh on my hair. But also, I do tend to use it like a guide to detangle with my fingers about half the time.
@@medaherf9462combs are definitely not bad if you get the right one. You just need a sturdy one, no plastic (preferably carbon fiber or cellulose acetate). Make sure it is not a molded comb as those have seams in between combs. Sharp in-seams, plastic, & flexible combs cause frizz & breakage. I’ll tell you right now that the best detangle comb I’ve used is the Oribe detangling comb. The shape, size and spacing of the comb is magic. It’s $50 but so worth it. It’s made from cellulose acetate, now I just hope to find something comparable in carbon fiber.
i love this so much!! thank you for being so open and super honest about everything related to self-care. a brush seems so trivial but it is actually very dictating of the health of our hair. i've been using the classic wet brush for a couple of years, and recently bought a new one in a different color and i don't know why but it feels less gentle on my hair, and i've been noticing more pulling. thank you for the recommendations❤
I splurged and invested in a Mason Pearson brush several years ago. I absolutely love it and know it will last a lifetime. I brush my hair first thing in the morning and the last thing I do before I go to bed. I do not use it on wet hair. I comb my wet hair out with a wide tooth comb.
Thanks for another deep dive! ❤ I purchased the aveda mini paddle brush about a year ago. And I’m in love with it. It deranges. But is gentle. Gets through my tangles. Packs so well. I actually threw out my other brushes and bought more of these for my travel bag and my girls.
As a very fine haired girlie I also despise the tangle teezer and brushes like it, but so many people love it, it must be something about fine hair, like mine and Abbey's, that the teezer just doesn't vibe with. Brushes like that just like 🤌 either don't go through tangles at all or rip through them with no middle ground in my experience. Brushing my hair has always been SUCH a struggle (my poor mom had to chase childhood me around the house just to brush my hair because I couldn't stand the grueling process) and watching Abbey's channel has been so very helpful for learning how to take care of my hair type, I'm actually growing it out past chin length for the first time in ages because I can actually keep it from becoming a disgusting matted mess! I really appreciate this video 🙏 This is something I still definitely needed and my hair will thank you for it for sure! ❤ (Also thank you for including the more affordable options as that's my only option at the moment 🙏)
Can’t wait to save for the one I think will be the best for me! Thank you for such an informative video! Love your hair care content regarding products and styling!
One thing I've learned, as a very frugal person, is that if you spend money on a high-quality tool you use for many years, you will never regret it. I've had the Mason Pearson for over 20 years---it's amazing. I picked it as my Christmas gift, back when my family would each buy a $150 gift for one other family member. I bought a few dupes in the following years for travel, my partner, my child, and the dupes were OK but noticeably not as good as Mason Pearson. Sonia Kashuk for Target and Sephora had decent dupes, but a set of lookalikes from Costco was terrible.
@@Siirah1992 I don't see why the tips of the bristles wouldn't be good for the scalp? I clean mine occasionally with clarifying shampoo or Sal's Suds on a toothbrush and rinse with hot water. There is a cleaning brush that came with it, but I prefer to use an a toothbrush.
Cala eco detangler (the oval one with the cushion) is amazing. The only brush I ever bought a second time and my friend swears by it for her 4 year old daughter. Super affordable and gentle on the hair.
So I have sensitive scalp and wavy hair and since having my second child two years ago my hair has been disaster (it’s improving in past couple of months thanks to some of your tips like dove bond repair) I start detangling with boar bristles brush and then continue slowly detangeling with flexible paddle brush with nylon bristles. The boar bristles brush was game changer for me… I do section my hair to being able to get all of my hair first before the other brush. This video was very informative to watch! Thanks
I have 2b wavy hair & regular Tangle Teaser for fine hair is my favorite brush although I use a Wet Brush in the shower to distribute products. Since brushing wavy hair when dry makes it frizz, using a wide tooth comb instead is also good.
Yes, I understand why you might not have had a good experience with the TTs. My daughters and I all have our own and they have been the best brushes we have ever tried. But that’s because we have thicker hair with medium-thick strands. My youngest still has some fine hair strands but the original TT does great for her. She doesn’t like to brush her own hair yet, but I think I’m going to get her a Wet brush Pro for her birthday coming up! I have used Wet brushes before finding TT, but I hated how gross the cushions would get, and I’m all for easy-to-clean!
@@wearelegion1163Did you see a question mark anywhere in her paragraph? She was not asking for your input. She acknowledged that the cushions get gross. A wet brush pro does not have cushions.
Always pop out the cushions to wash and dry…they shouldn’t ever be wet inside after cleaning. Most people don’t seem to realize they pop out very easily. It can be tricky to put them back together, but I’ve never broken one trying.
@@CaliTrvln-wk6sn I wouldn’t mind taking the cushion out to wash. But I like the TT because there’s no cushion to get gross in the first place. I can wash it in just a few minutes vs. a cushion brush that would take 15+ minutes to get all of the fuzzies and hair out let alone the time to lay it out to dry completely.
Foxybae detangling brush has been my #1 for nearly a decade. Doesn't catch my hair at all. Its not on anyone's radar and its amazing. I wish you knew about it. Id LOVE your opinion. Its the ONLY brush that has ever combed right through my hair. Has to be the round one though, not the square. I didn't like the square paddle. Best brush I have ever owned. I was not expecting it to be on the list. You probably haven't heard of it. It does have a cushion base. I cant stand the tangle teezer. I almost bought the unbrush.. so glad I didn't now.
I’ve been loving my current Wetbrush- my kids bought it for me for Christmas last year because it has Baby Yoda on it. Turned out to be a great brush PLUS it has Baby Yoda on it. I actually use a couple brushes after washing my hair. First I use a wide tooth comb- this, for me, is the “safest” thing to use, slowly and gently, to prepare for leave in conditioner. Next I slowly use the L’ange flexi vented brush. This really works well to fully detangle my hair. I don’t use my Wetbrush on wet hair- I find it not soft and flexible enough, but it is my everyday, everytime, hairbrush for dry hair. Love it. Finally I have the Kitsch detangling brush- which, after watching this, I recognize as a dupe for the Original Tangle Teezer- that I use before I shampoo my hair. My hair is very fine and tangles if you look at it. I inevitably need to detangle my hair before I shampoo, to the point of needing a detangler spray (currently using Mane and Tail as it seems the most effective) and the Kitsch seems to do a pretty good job. I may try the Original TT to see if it is a better option. I should mention that I am currently growing my hair out one last time- I am 72- and your videos have really inspired me to keep at it. In 1970 I had the perfect hair: long, shiny, thick (as in lots of hair), very fine, and perfectly straight- I never needed to iron it. Now there is still a lot, although not as much as then, still very fine, and seems to need more attention than I remember from then. So, your videos are a tremendous help. Thank you so much! I’d love to see a video on maintaining very fine, easily tangles hair, and products specifically for dealing with the tangles.
Just wanna say I absolutely adore your channel bc I know I can always count on getting a true deep dive with all the details that can influence whether something is actually a good fit for me - things we sometimes don’t know until we’ve actually bought a product. And I appreciate your style bc obviously we want to know your opinion but you do a great job of separating what’s personal vs objective which makes you a trustworthy source And if I’m not mistaken, I recall you being a virgo (or having virgo placements?) which totally tracks, gotta love a good analysis 🔥🤩
I didn't know I needed a new hairbrush until now. I totally agree with everything Abbey is saying. I thought I was doing the best for my curly coily hair using a Tangle Teezer Ultimate detangler but I was never that pleased with it. I thought it was just another problem with my hair but no I need better brush! It makes so much sense to go for one wider spaced...all these little simple details that make the world of difference! 😳I'm learning!
Thank you for this video 😍😍 you may be saving my hair, because you've made me think if the brushes I use are actually to blame for the damage I have despite all the ptoducts I apply 🙈
I came to comment this! I wish us curly girls had someone that does this much research for their videos. If anyone knows of any curly creators who put out high quality content like Abbey, lmk pls
@@zullycelissuazo7439have you checked out @genamarie? She does a lot of high quality videos on curly hair. She did a video comparing 4 curly hair brushes too about a year ago ruclips.net/video/X7vAKW7fuUU/видео.htmlsi=bt0WwAkKf5JV2-N8
@@zullycelissuazo7439 vyala bloom does, she read a whole book about the behaviour of human hair I didn't looked at it that much in depth, but her content is really good. Straight to the point type content.
Thanks again Abbey! ❤🎉 Fine here too with bleach. I use a regular wet brush with only the plastic flexible bristles. Always start at the ends and work your way up to the roots gently.
Whatever you are doing 4 your hair & skin is really working. You really have some of the most beautiful skin & hair I've ever seen. Particularly, your hair. Thought you should know!!!
I just bought the Rock&Ruddle brush a couple days ago. I worried it would be too sharp to my scalp based on this review. I was wrong! It gives such an amazing massage OMG! It glides through my hair like knife through the butter. By the way, Abbey showed a large brush in the video. They actually have a XL Lux brush that is the size of MP. I owned MP before. It’s really such a not significant difference as long as your hair isn’t too damaged.
as someone with very fine hair, the tangle teaser ultimate detanger is, so far, the best brush I have used. just shows how different we all are, as for me if would definitely be top tier!
I love the thought and care you put into these videos. It's just a shame that I personally have coarse, wavy, gray hair so the information isn't always relatable. However, I do recommend it to friends with similar hair types.
Metal bristles aren’t bad if you have the right brush. Sheila Stotts Untangle brush is the goat! The bristles are super flexible because of the rubber pad. Bought almost 9 years ago and still use it everyday!
i bought the wet brush detangler because a lot of people recommending it. I was satisfied at first with how comfortable the experience it felt while brushing my hair, however i noticed it wore out quickly. The ball tips wore down over time, mine went bald after about 4 months. Also, the printing fades so easily, mine started fading after just a week of normal use. Totally i hate it, it looks shabby now.
Abbey! I love your videos girl! You are helping me so much in my hair growth journey ❤ I have all the products you have recommended and my gosh it has made a huge difference in my damaged bleached hair, so grateful for you 🌸🥳
I've had that green wet brush gathering dust in my drawer for a couple of years now because it's too gentle. I feel like it just doesn't penetrate on to my scalp. And I don't have thick hair.
I have one question, do you use these boar bristled brushes with your hairdryer? I usually use the tangle teaser wet detangler for that and the I do the actual blowout and smoothing with a round brush. But I wonder if this could be done with the fancy brushes. Thank you so much in advance for your response. ❤ Big kisses from Spain.
I'll never use anything but a Wet Brush ever again. I've used them for multiple hair lengths: long (almost abby's length), little past shoulder, collar bone, chin, they've worked great for each. I'm super tender headed and if I have tangles this takes care of them easily. Boar hair and nylon brushes just make my hair frizzy and poofy.
Thanks Abbey! I keep looking for a new brush so this is helpful ! Curious on your thoughts for a La Bonne Brosse - it came up as a prettier option to Mason Pearson and I’m curious how it compares - debating trying it
I love all the work you put into this video 😊 I have tried a lot of brushes but no one really that high priced. My absolute favorite is one from Waterclouds no.26. I’ve never tried a brush that compares to this one. So easy to brush out my hair. I have long fine hair that tangles easily.
Funny because I actually like the tangle teezer because I feel like the gentler* ones don't actually make it through my hair. But it's just like you said, our hair needs are different and mine isn't as fragile. 😂 I think the denman is mostly a styler though? Great video!
@@wearelegion1163 oh good point! Yes my hair is also wavy with slight curly so I've been mostly detangling when it's wet and it doesn't feel rough at all!
Like some other comment said you do not distinguish btw dry and wet brushing. Mason pearson should not be used on wet hair. I use TT detangler on wet hair and MP boar only version on dry...i have fine hair
Thank you, Abby, for such informative video on a topic I didn't thought much about! It made me realize that I my ideal brush is Wet Brush Original Detangler (and I already use something similar (only without a cushion) from some no name brand). I have a scalp condition, so ball tipped ends is a must. I don't like bore bristles, because it looks like they make cleaning a brush properly much harder. Detangling problem disappeared by itself, when I found right conditioner.
I personally avoid boar bristles since they’re normally byproducts of the meat market. I’ve use denman’s d series brushes for years because it works great at detangling. Was thinking about adding a wood brush since they’re suppose to be good at smoothing.
I've used many and my all time fave is the Conair 'The Knot Dr.' hands down. I have super fine, bleached, thin, damaged, super tangly hair and this is the most gentle.
I have very long thin hair but have a lot of it. I have a very tender head - I hate going to the hairdressers as the whole experience is just painful. My go to brush is the Wet Brush. It untangles my hair pretty much instantaneously and does not pull on my hair at all. It is also extremely tender on my scalp. Love love love it!!! Actually have 5 brushes in different places and handbags!! 🤣
I also have a tender head and a wet brush, but mine still pulls quite a lot. Does your brush have the small balls on the bristles? Mines the vented plastic one.
Super helpful. I love my Mason Pearson so much. Feels worth it to me! :) I had my last one for 20 years and got a new one a few years ago that I assume will last me as long. My retired Mason Pearson I now use on my dog.
Great video as always, I never even thought about how important the brush would be to prevent breakage. Please could you consider doing a one brand review on Davines? Interested to hear your thoughts!
Thank you! 🙌 I've been searching for a new boar bristle brush with no luck. I can't tell you how fast I ran out to get the Ion brush and I LOVE it. Solid, affordable suggestion!
Do we need a hair brush? I only use a wide tooth comb(the one recommended in your Amazon favorites list). I think it all depends on the hair type. I have very fine hair that tangles easily. I do use a brush when blow drying. I would love recommendations for that!😊
SO VERY TRUE! GREAT POINTS! A lot of issues most know little about. I went through so many brushes and usually end up using a wide tooth comb. Thank you for sharing.
One of the biggest/best tips I can give as an ex hairdresser is whatever you choose to use on your hair, brush or comb wet or dry, straight or curly hair, ESPECIALLY when you have length, is to ALWAYS start at your ends first, THEN work your way towards your roots.
My mother gave me the Mason Pearson brush when I started college in 1987. 37 years later, I still use it every day. ❤
I’ve had mine for 25 years. Best hair investment I ever made.
Which one did you have
I had one in the mid to late 1970s and sadly have no idea what happened to it! Many moves later, I wish I still had it!
I really enjoy these deep dives. To most, this video will seem silly. However, to those of us with hair struggles, this hair brush video is right up there with everything else contributing to hair breakage. Thank you, Abbey. We appreciate you.
Awww thank you so much! So happy you enjoyed ❤
I really like everything about your hair and everything else about it that makes you look very beautiful and pretty as it is naturally and also your natural beauty too.
I don't think it's silly at all, my partner will watch videos where they test 5 different brands of duct tape or trash bags lol 😂

That’s outrageous! Bless my mum, saved for months to buy that brush & she’s now going through end of life care, so it means a lot to me, but I still stand by the fact I believe its one of the best brushes ever made… but the price of it now is frightening, but I guess it was back then…. 😮😢❤❤❤
If you have local friends in the UK, its almost $100 less to buy in the UK (£140?) than if you try to buy at any retailer in the US.
@@vicstir1 ah ok thankyou, I have to say I was a bit shocked tbh lol 🌸🌸
How do you clean the brush?
I think that may just be the USA? I bought the M&P junior about 4 years ago and it was £90 ($115ish USA), obviously still an investment but not $275 (£200ish)! But the brush is amazing and I think I would still save for it at that price!
@@vicstir1 140£ for the large one? Are you sure? I would love to have it at that price, but I only found it at around 200£ in the UK..
I was literally just looking at brushes on Ulta’s app yesterday and didn’t end up picking one cause the amount of options were overwhelming and I needed to do more research before buying . But look at my girl abbey, always 2 steps ahead❤
Same, @lexvirgilio. Same.
My heart shattered when she said the tangle teezer was the worst one💔
not all of the tangle teezers are the same! and if it works well for you keep using it- this was just based on my experience with my hair 😊
@@AbbeyYung Okay, tysm, your tips are amazing❤️😊
Same! It's my favorite brush of all time & I'm old so have used a lot of different brushes. I also gave my granddaughter one. She's 5 & has long fine straight blonde hair. It's great for her, too. I don't get Abbey's h8 for it.
You people believe everything you see on the internet 😂😂😂
Oh it sure is. I cannot stand that brush. I am so glad she confirmed that.
Would you be able to tell me what store you bought it at/ how to learn which are the official stores to buy?❤
I second this…I will be going back to London in the summer and would love to pick up a Mason Pearson while I’m there.
@@kaide5262 their website has a map tool for the stockists. I just found a store near where I was staying.
Same, I live in The Netherlands and got it for around 100 euros!
Can you tell me what you paid in London? Hubby travels a lot, so id it worth sending him out in London to save money? Which store please? Would want to make sure it’s not a knockoff!
My husband is OBSESSED with his tangle teezer brushes. He has super thick wavy hair that doesn't get very tangled. It's annoyingly perfect.
Girl, when I tell you I was JUST searching your channel this weekend for a brush recommendation and couldn't find one! This immaculate timing!
yessss love!
I appreciate you not trying to force a "tier list" where one wasn't warranted. Adding that extra nuance helps make the reviews more useful.
Please make a video about going from bleached blonde to more natural color!! What to tell my hairdresser I want.
She has one video but I think it’s a couple years old. I’d love an updated hair color video!
Huge waste of money for me :(
Can you specify which is better to use on wet hair?
It’s SO easy to keep clean ✨💕
I grew up using cushion brushes (with the ball-ended metal bristles 🙈) and I remember that swirly/squishy sound of water forever trapped under the cushion.
That's why I love my tangle teaser, it's SO much easier and quicker to clean than any cushion brush I've owned.
I have fine hair and I agree with you.
Definitely my favorite.
how do you clean it?
@@claireh1508 It comes with a small cleaning brush, and instructions on how to properly care for the brush. You wet the cleaning brush, hold the Mason Pearson bristles-down, and scrub it that way. Then rinse it the same way. I believe that RUclips has some videos showing how it's done as well.
Do you use it on wet hair too??
Can you blow dry with it?
For the mason pearsons brush if you want to try it but not pay over £200 theres a medium version which is just over £100 or a handbag size one for £70. Still an investment and will take longer to brush your hair but they are good brushes. My parents have 1 that has lived by the front door of their house for longer than I can remember and is still in really good condition.
Abbey! My daughters are never going to stop talking about meeting you today ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for this amazing video!!
Awww they were so adorable 🥺❤
Agreed!
So agreed! Feel with ya!
I love my Mason Pearson brush. I got it 10 years ago and used it every single day and it's still perfect! ❤❤❤ I never found a hair brush even close to it in quality. It's perfect for my thin and fine hair
Which bristle type of MP did you get? I too have thin fine hair?
Abbey! You make the days so much better. Learning hair care while just having your videos playing in the background as I cook or clean is so therapeutic!
her video never disappoints...this is the only hair channel that I watch and trust😊
I have very fine and fragile hair and I love the tangle teaser SPECIFICALLY for fine and fragile hair - the others are definitely too harsh on my hair. But also, I do tend to use it like a guide to detangle with my fingers about half the time.
Me too. I agree
I've retired brushes all together and I now use a wide tooth comb. I have long fine hair and it tangles so easily
Same haven’t used a brush in years but according to blowout professor combs are bad 😢
I find combs break my fine thin hair less. I have only been using combs lately

How about brushes for hair styling? Best round brush, for blow drying your hair? Loved this video ❤
I have my Mason Pearson brush for 10 years now and it’s still in great shape so for me it’s totally worth the money ❤
Cushion brushes get moldy inside the cushion if it continues to get wet & you really can't dry inside the cushion area.
You can take off the cushion side , wash it, dry it over night and put it back.
What do you think of wooden combs and brushes? They’re my favorite, but I’d appreciate your insights
I have the same question about wooden combs
i love this so much!! thank you for being so open and super honest about everything related to self-care. a brush seems so trivial but it is actually very dictating of the health of our hair.
i've been using the classic wet brush for a couple of years, and recently bought a new one in a different color and i don't know why but it feels less gentle on my hair, and i've been noticing more pulling. thank you for the recommendations❤
I’ve been eyeing the Shash one for so long !! So happy I watched this before purchasing!!
I splurged and invested in a Mason Pearson brush several years ago. I absolutely love it and know it will last a lifetime. I brush my hair first thing in the morning and the last thing I do before I go to bed. I do not use it on wet hair. I comb my wet hair out with a wide tooth comb.
Do you use a different brush when it’s wet?
(Also thank you for including the more affordable options as that's my only option at the moment 🙏)
Thanks Abby! Which brush do you recommend for fine thin hair?
How do you clean it? I had one for 5 years but just couldn’t get it clean to the point i was scared it wasn’t good for my scalp
Oh my gosh! Is it wrong for me to be this excited for a hair brush video? 😳 🙏🏻🤍
The cushion brushes get moldy inside the cushion if it continually gets wet 🤮
@@mx4tathe one that Abby showed in the video did have a cushion. It was the black and bright green one.
Thank you for such a detailed breakdown on the inner workings of these brushes 😊
I would love you to test round brushes. I seem to have more issues with round brushes ripping my hair as I am styling
SO HELPFUL!! have been thinking about replacing my brush but no insights into what’s best for the hair❤❤
Your hair and makeup in this video is perfection!!! So effortless looking and gorgeous ❤
Just wanna say I absolutely adore your channel bc I know I can always count on getting a true deep dive with all the details that can influence whether something is actually a good fit for me - things we sometimes don’t know until we’ve actually bought a product. And I appreciate your style bc obviously we want to know your opinion but you do a great job of separating what’s personal vs objective which makes you a trustworthy source
And if I’m not mistaken, I recall you being a virgo (or having virgo placements?) which totally tracks, gotta love a good analysis 🔥🤩
Is this for dry hair or wet hair brushing ? Tangle teezer is best for wet hair . i bought it after i read ratzillacosme's blog
yeah I love it for wet hair. It lives in my shower.

The UnBrush saved my life and is my favorite brush everrrrrrrr
This👆🏻 I’m obsessed! I haven’t touched my Mason Pearson since I tried the UnBrush. I bought the UnBrush for my toddler. I tried it and was hooked.
Metal bristles aren’t bad if you have the right brush. Sheila Stotts Untangle brush is the goat! The bristles are super flexible because of the rubber pad. Bought almost 9 years ago and still use it everyday!

I love the Wet Brush Go Green Curly Detangling Brush. I don't have curly hair but it's the best for me.
i bought the wet brush detangler because a lot of people recommending it. I was satisfied at first with how comfortable the experience it felt while brushing my hair, however i noticed it wore out quickly. The ball tips wore down over time, mine went bald after about 4 months. Also, the printing fades so easily, mine started fading after just a week of normal use. Totally i hate it, it looks shabby now.
it could be better.. but considering the price, i guess its okay.
I love using the tangle teezer to gently brush all the flakes and dry skin off my scalp before a shower… like a good exfoliation!
Love that Ryan wants a good brush! What a perfect pair! 😂

Love it ! Can you do a curling iron showdown please ❤
Too funny! I bought a 100 percent boar bristle brush by kent and im obsessed. Your content has truly transformed my hair bleach blonde hair journey.
Thanks Abbey! I keep looking for a new brush so this is helpful ! Curious on your thoughts for a La Bonne Brosse - it came up as a prettier option to Mason Pearson and I’m curious how it compares - debating trying it
Happy Sunday! Looks like I will be buying a brush today😂😂❤

I love all the work you put into this video 😊
I have tried a lot of brushes but no one really that high priced.
I love the tangle teaser for my wavy hair. I've had much less breakage since using it. I have fine wavy color-treated old hair.
@@wearelegion1163 oh good point! Yes my hair is also wavy with slight curly so I've been mostly detangling when it's wet and it doesn't feel rough at all!

I’ve been waiting for this video! Thank you ❤
me too 😂❤
Thank you, Abby, for such informative video on a topic I didn't thought much about!
How do you sanitize your Mason pearson brush? I feel like just brushing it out isn't enough sometimes...
Omg I love my Ultimate Styler 😭 I feel like it’s gentle and doesn’t tug at my hair or extensions. Guess I should try one of the other brushes.
Keep on using it if you love it
I just bought the Aveda paddle brush and already love it ❤ feels so luxurious to brush!
This is definitely the best guide I’ve found on this topic!
