I usually have a pretty strong stomach like not much really grosses me out, however not going to lie but this I can say almost made me want to gag. I assume that you guys sanitize your cameras after a job?
As a guy who works in buildings built by the US government in the 30s-50s, after a while doing jobs like this you get used to it. The USPS bought a couple supertankers worth of ethyl and isopropyl alcohol for following CDC disinfecting recommendations and the fact I just repaired a nasty toilet flange and snaked 100 feet of pipe isn't going to keep me from my lunch. Even though I was likely exposed to all of the letters of hepatitis, I have soap and sanitizer galore. Cleaning cooling towers is in my opinion worse, the combo of mineral deposits and pigeon nastiness leads to itching even wearing rain gear. It doesn't smell as bad, but I wear a respirator to keep it out of my lungs. All you can smell is your own bad breath 😁
I can see your point. But, anything you do enough you can acclimate to. Someone has to do the dirty jobs. I find these videos surprisingly satisfying. I draw the line at crime scene cleaning. Those people are next level with the gross.
This is one of those times you thank god they never invented smell-o-vision 😂😂

I have to say you are an absolute unit of a man to do this job without vomiting.
This job is literally the most important modern job there is. Looking back through history, sewage was one the the biggest problems for civilization. Be it disease or convenience.
90 percent of jobs are just made up so people don't have to do this

The manhole cover was lifted to reveal something that looked like a Tiramisu pudding. Well done for cleaning that one out.

@@dreadfulspiller8766 i'm guessing fats, bacterial mats and whatnot from sewage. it's partly why you're suppossed to periodically dump bacteria into your septic tanks for treatment.
Looks strikingly similar to a creek I often find myself floating on without a paddle. 🤔 Also, both my nutritionist and personal trainer would like to thank you for ruining gravy for me. It will no longer be a staple in my poor diet habits!!

Wow, when you first lifted manhole #1 it looked like it was stuffed with loft insulation. Then the sound in manhole #2 was like dropping bricks down a well. Fantastic work, glad you avoided getting grunged. What a fantastic service you give, two manholes for the price of one 😀👍

WOW Jem...when you opened that first manhole and broke the crust, I thought "Greggs custard tart"....then the neighbours one reminded me about the after effects of an extremely dodgy burger I had in Barcelona....Happy days!!!

When I was a telecommunications lineman, we would need to access the underground utility vaults for cable work. Sometimes we would clear and prove the conduits and run brushes and slugs through to clear the lines

When its just passed midnight and this pops up on the recommended list you know you've been down one hell of a rabbit hole.
I'm an Area Maintenance Technician for the USPS, and I wish we had a hydrojet for cleaning DWV pipes in buildings where drain plumbing is typically lead-jointed cast iron in an attractive cocoon of tape and big "A" in an inverted equilateral triangle to tell you that it comes with a side of asbestos. Drain snakes are nice, but hydrojet systems allow you to confidently make sure it won't just immediately clog again. Closest thing we have is the jet brush we use for chillers in big offices, and our old-school power drain opener plus long garden hose.
The non digestion of corn is amazing.

had to swap out a 5hp sewer/grinder pump in a big concrete sump. boss was too cheap to have a pumper truck stay on site- so they pumped it down, left- and then I had to climb in with hip waders & do the work. I gagged at random times for DAYS after that- couldn't get that frikin' rotting sewage smell out of my nostrils. that was 33 years ago and my sniffer hasn't worked right since.
That spider flying around at 14:45 ish gave me flashbacks of the movie arachnophobia

This is wild! The owner of that 2nd manhole had to be having issues with his plumbing. There was enough sewage going through for 6 toilets! Great job troubleshooting the 1st client, knowing it crossed over properties. I do have to say the Milwaukee logo obliterated a lot of the flushing of the pipes. Not really necessary. Make it smaller in the corner or something.
