Isn't the outlet of that manhole actually the top bypass hole of an interceptor? It appears whomever updated the plumbing filled over the hole to the trap. Yes, no?

A tip if the smell of the drains gets to you such as filming someone else cleaning the drain, use a dab of Vicks vaporub under your nose. I used it when I worked at the funeral directors, crematorium and care home
