Honey Lantree truly was a trailblazer in the music scene, and her impact is still felt today. For me, "Have I the Right" is such a classic-it's got that infectious energy and her drumming really drives the song. It's amazing to think about how she broke barriers for women in rock. An inspiration to many! I was a budding young drummer in '64 and was quite taken with Honey...and her Carlton kit, which became my first kit too! I shall never forget her stoic attitude...the band was scheduled to appear on one of the 60s pop programmes and she'd broken her leg, but rather than cancel, she appeared with her leg in a full plaster and played standing up! Legend!👏👏👏👏👏👏
I've played guitar for years too... never considered myself that great.. more of an armchair guitar player but one day would like to rock out a solo...lol

Such a touching tribute to Honey Lantree, an incredible drummer and trailblazer in the music world. Her talent and unique presence in the industry were truly inspiring. May her legacy live on through her music and the impact she made on future generations. Rest in peace, Honey
What a fascinating look into Honey Lantree's life! She was truly a trailblazer, proving that women could rock just as hard behind the drum kit. Her story is both inspiring and bittersweet-thank you for sharingthis amazing video with us!
That daft phrase " one hit wonder" gets me! If your hit is Have I The Right...or San Fransisco ..or Spirit In The Sky? Well, you are going to be heard and loved for ever, because those songs will be played for ever too.
I met her and spoke with her for ages at a tribute concert (along with other group members). Very nice natural lady, engaging and very interested in my interest !!

woow honey lanty's story is so inspiring. honey lantry's journey is a reminder of how perseverance and talent can break barriers. I had no idea she influenced Karen Carpenter, what a legacy to leave behind!

I just found the Honeycombs about 6 months ago and am a huge fan. It's surprising they didn't get more success. Alot of their songs, I thought, should have been huge hits. Honey singing, "Something I've Got To Tell You Baby" was awesome!!! I haven't been able to find her grave on line. Does anyone know where she is buried?
It's interesting...upon further investigation I can't find where she is buried.. I suspect she could have been cremated? Maybe not sure...just curious how you were introduced to the Honeycombs...you mentioned it was about 6 months ago you were introduced to the group...was it RUclips? Or was it a song played on satellite radio? Just curious....it's funny how a movie or song may have been around for while but it becomes quite the gem when we dig it and are introduced to it...thanks so much for the comment and taking the time to write!!
I saw the group at Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, and they were absolutely magnificent, and of course the song of the night was 🎶"Have I The Right"🎶 what else !
The life and death of Drummer Honey Lantree is a poignant reflection of a remarkable career in music. Honey Lantree, best known as the drummer for the British pop group The Honeycombs, gained significant recognition in the 1960s for her role in the band. Her iconic status as one of the few female drummers in a male-dominated genre helped break barriers in the music industry.
Wow, I knew Honey Lantree was the Honeycombs drummer, but after watching this video, never knew her actual name was Margot. I’ve a month old granddaughter called Margot, and always looking out for other Margots, as it’s quite an unusual name. A most interesting watch.
On here there is a great audio clip of the Honeycombs in Tokyo where Honey does "Wipeout". I think that unfortunately they just did not come up with a good follow up single. Their big hit was a stomper and they needed to just stick with that for a couple more songs. I did read that they were sent off touring Japan instead of being in the UK to promote the follow up.
She was something special for sure! Thanks for sharing ....I'm thinking of doing a video about Joe Meek. He was a pretty interesting guy....what I found most intriguing was his interest into the occult.
i was in the 7th grade in 1964 when they appeared on shindig (in the us) it was pantomime, as all artist did on that show ,and i wasnt really impressed ..however ,by 1970/71 i heard the song again on American Forces Vietnam Network when i deployed and it sounded much better then i remembered ..
To start with thank you for your service and thank you for sharing your story. Music is personal and has the ability to take us right back. That's the beauty of these artists. It is the universal language for sure!

A brilliant drummer, not chosen because she was a woman, the so-called gimmick was purely coincidental. She was chosen because she was excellent. I was working in radio when she died and nobody under the age of 50 even knew who she was, so I did an hour on one of my shows on The Honeycombs and packed it with facts and music to celebrate this great woman.
@crossedoveryonder Sadly, no. We only had to keep recordings of shows for 3 months for OfCom purposes then and after that only a small selection of shows were archived to illustrate examples of the station's output, so it isn't only the BBC that wiped little gems of entertainment.
She was a true inspiration for women in music. She was also a great drummer... I suspect it was the usual bias against women at that time that gave rise to the criticism of her ability.
@@crossedoveryonder Thank you for posting. I was only seven years old when they were in the charts, but I loved that there was a female playing drums. Slightly earlier were The Applejacks, with a female bass player, proving (to me!) that girls could do stuff that was traditionally seen as for boys only. Early days for a more "feminist" approach to society, but this was ground breaking at the time.
Interesting thanks again for sharing!! When I was a kid my parents dragged me to their gigs...my dad was an accordion player and my mom was a drummer....so growing up this way It was unique as my parents had their own band and my mom rocked the drums! I shouldn't say they dragged me to their gigs but as a little kid I don't think I appreciated it...but now in retrospect I wish I could go back and watch my parents perform again.
