Thank you SO much!! Being smaller busted can make me feel out of the norm anyway and in the sewing world it seems worse because everything’s about the FBA. I appreciate that you’ve thought of the rest of us :-)
Thank you Katrina! As I have a pear-shape I struggled with the concept of small bust adjustments because you are removing width from the waist and hip (which I need). With the help of your video I now understand that I fit my shoulders, then a bust adjustment (if needed) and then do the waist and hip. Thanks again for another excellent fitting video!
Oh Katrina! Finally, you speak to my heart ❤️. Thank you so very much for addressing the needs of us, the small bust adjustment women. Very sincerely, J
Thank you for this explanation of how to go about adjusting a garment for a small bust. You have made it very clear and I will have more confidence with this in future.
Karina, as always, you teach clearly and succinctly. We are blessed to have you as our sewing mentor. I use your tools and videos regularly to help me with fitting. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this series. ❤️
I had almost given up making things for myself because of the difficulty I had fitting for my small bust. Then I found your video - a complete revelation! Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for this ! I came looking for reducing my daughters blouse pattern ( I drafted with too large a bust dart for her small bust/frame) As always, You had the solution!
Thank you Karina. Another teaching video done brilliantly! Now I can go back to the basic LN blouse and do both the SBA and adjustments for my hips since I'm pear shaped.
I was at my wits end, ty for this video.I thought that because I only had a 1 inch difference, I should not adjust, so thank you for the example at the end of the video
I had to learn 2-3 years ago to do a SBA for my daughter. I wish I had this tutorial. Definitely the most comprehensive one on the subject. I will recommend it to anyone I know if they need to learn about a SBA.
Hi Karina, thank you so much. This is useful not only for people with a small bust compared to their shoulders, but also for sewists with no bust who would still like to wear a pattern drafted to accommodate breasts. This could include men, women who have had mastectomies, or women who choose to minimise their bust with undergarments.
I am a 36B. I bought a bunch of vintage patterns in a 36, knowing that the pattern companies make these and a b cup. I figured it would fit perfectly! I was wrong. I was stuck on the gaping armholes and giant shoulders. I kept shrinking the arm hole in the shoulders but the boobs are so big, despite what I thought was the perfect size for me. I should mention I am one of those rare people that has four inch wide shoulders so small shoulder adjustment are not completely out of line for me. I'm going back to the very beginning, I'm shrinking the bus size, thank you for your video. everybody focuses on large bust adjustments but this is one of the few videos I see that are specifically for small bust adjustment. every other video by Sasa says do the large bust entrustment in reverse, and doesn't take into account the other symptoms, large armhole, giant shoulders.
Hi Karina - thank you soooo much - you have explained this very well. Now could you let me know if this method works differently on a pattern that needs the small bust adjustment - but it has NO dart - would I follow the same instructions you have so generously shared. Gracias. Philomena
If the style has no dart, it can be a little easier. I found this shirt video that explains it very well. ruclips.net/user/shorts1B2OAuH01Mg?feature=share
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thank you so much Karina. I will try this and let you know how I go. The pattern I have made is loose around the neckline and in front so this will be interesting. With thanks & sunshine from Australia.
I’m not a fan of choosing. Depends on the style and the ease of the garment. I prefer to draw a line right in between the lines of the pattern and not go down or up a size.
Hi Katrina, what about a knit top that doesn’t have a bust dart, the top that I just made is , or seems to be too wide, but it also rides up over my bust? Probably be easier to throw this pattern out😜. Thanks for any suggestions you can give 🙏
How do I know what cup size and height a pattern company drafts for? I've looked on several web sites and I can't find this information anywhere. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us!
The pattern usually says it or the website of the brand says it. At least the indie brands I use always have this detail on their website and in the patterns. Commercial are always a B unless they state they have cup sizes in a few of the patterns.
Thank you for such an informative video. Just as a point of interest I did a pattern design course and did everything according to my measurements and the bust was still wrong. How strange I thought. It seems that even the system makes assumptions about proportions despite using correct measurements to the mm. I was baffled.
you are so helpful! maybe you can help with a problem I have, (I am making the cadence top from love notions) and the problem is that the armhole is too big at the side seams. (it looks like my my ribcage at the armhole has wings! i haven't put the sleeves on yet) how do I make this correction and how do I fit the corresponding sleeve? (I am not shaped like an hourglass, my ribcage is fairly straight from armhole to waist.)
I already replied to your question. Make sure you are choosing your size based on your high bust and not your full bust. You shouldn’t have that much extra at the armhole.
Excellent tutorial as usual. I am about to sew my first garment for my new daughter-in-law who is an A cup. I am planning the Live Notions "Harmony" blouse which has no bust darts. Do I still need to make any adjustments for her. Thank you.💕
Hi Katrina, My high bust is the same measurement as my full bust : 32 " : ( Also how do you do a small bust adjustment on a pattern with no bust darts? I have the Atelier Jupe Lynn Kaftan Pattern, which I made and I feel that there is too much room in the bust area, although it is a relaxed fit. Look forward to your thoughts and thank you .
Hi - this video is so helpful. Do you think if the difference between high/full bust is 1.25”, is it worth making the SBA? Also, if I apply the formula, it comes out to 1/4”. Is that coincidence? I’m terrible with math! And would I take out a 1/4” each side or is that the total out of the bodice? If it’s an 1/8” each side, doesn’t seem worth the effort. Thanks so much for all of your excellent videos! I am learning so much while returning to sewing after a 40 year hiatus.
Good morning mam.its veena.small bust adjustment means d difference between upper chest in full bust in horizontal?eg the length between upper chest n full bust?
No. The circumference. Measure both and see what the difference is. Example high bust is 33 inches and full bust is 35 inches, the difference is 2 inches so that’s a B sewing cup

Thank you Katrina

Thank you! I learn so much from you!
Thank you so very much for this very thorough tutorial!! I love your channel and I am so glad I found you.
Thank you so much for this very clear, detailed video! Thank you for helping out us smaller busted women!
Wow, what an amazing video! Thank you!!! I finally feel like I get what to do.
Thank you for this video, so helpful. You are a great teacher.
Thank you! I keep running across patterns that are lose fitting style, such as a tunic and they put a dart when it's not needed. Grr.
Thanks for a very informative video. I’m going to use your instructions when I make my next Seamwork top pattern! 😊
Thank you I finally understand this now!
Thanks so much for this ! I came looking for reducing my daughters blouse pattern ( I drafted with too large a bust dart for her small bust/frame) As always, You had the solution!
Thank you. That must have taken ages to do! 🙂
It sure did. I don’t even want to count the days and hours 😀

I love these fitting videos. Thank you for doing these.
You are my Sewing Superhero!!!
Thank you, Katrina! This is so helpful!
Thanks Karina! I doubt I will ever personally need an sba, but it's good to know how to do it if I am sewing for smaller busted friends.
It’s helpful to know the tricks for sure :)

Thank you for this video. When I make tops for my daughter she needs this.
Thank you! Everyone needs to watch this! I have a sewing cup size D, and never understood how my shoulders came into play.
This was very enlightening.
Thank you for all of the work you put into this project. It has made such a difference.
Thank you - this was very concise video.

This is why I made the video. I had the request from quite a few women with no reconstruction surgery after mastectomies and I wanted to help.
Thank you! This tutorial is very helpful.
Loved this thank you. I need to head back and get some correct measurements 😃
Thank you. I often thought we all don’t need a full bust adjustment but the opposite

Do you recommend taking the high bust measurement with or without a bra on?
I take it with a bra on because that’s how I wear my clothes. I honestly don’t understand the no bra thing 😀.
How do you know what cup size a pattern is drafted for? The pattern I'm using is McCall's
If nothing is stated, it will be a B cup by default. There are some patterns that have cup size options and you’ll always see that on the cover.
