You've done it again! Before long your play list will provide a complete course in dress making, created with your love of sewing, fabric and everything 'sewing'. I'm so glad to have found your channel!
How refreshing to finally have a real person with a real body showing how to take our measurements. Are things going well in your world? Are you getting enough sleep? You said you do 100% of the work on all your platforms. This is a great deal of work on one person.
Thank you for your concern. Actually it’s quite concerning here in my area and just yesterday, someone local that I know passed away from covid. It’s very scary and we are all very worried. Thankfully my sons school went back online again. It’s a small relief. As for sleep, there’s never enough of that 😬 and what I do take more than full time hours. I do have a good nap everyday though 😀.
Where do I begin. Thank You seems inadequate a word. You are the only person I've come across that clearly explains how to choose the right pattern size. I download the worksheet and oh my god this approach is so simple and clear. We won't mention the shoulder neck template. Gonna attempt to do the same for the back. So refreshing to see a normal person (hope that's not rude) sew and explain so clearly how to do it and why without presuming that your audience has some background knowledge. Thank you so much
This is like the holy grail of fitting series. I could not figure out why shirts were turning out with a consistent problem. I just put a tank together with your fitting suggestions and it actually fits! I am so excited. Good thing no one is home with me right now cause I be dancing!🎉
I think a good fit is what we all strive for and what eludes us!!! This series is going to be such a great tool in our sewing box - great start cant wait fir the rest
Hi all the way from South Africa, thank you so much for the awesome thoughtful content that you bring. This video help me so much with my measurements. Hopefully now I can do proper adjustments to my patterns. Looking forward to learning some more from. Thank you for dedicating your time to bring this to us and thank you fir the measurement chart to❤️
Thank you so much for doing this.I really enjoy your channel and I learn so much from you. I will have my pattern out and my measurements all filled out by the next video.
I have done this in the past, but not recently. I will do it and follow the steps and see what I can learn this go around with the process. Thank you Karina!
This is exactly what I needed to learn. Just made a dress with a light jersey fabric and I cut the pattern bigger then my size because was not sure how to make the adjustments. Thank youuuuu!!!!!!
I am so excited for this. I have tried fitting woven garments with little success. I am going to dive in and try it with your guidance. Thank you so much for all the time and care you’ve put into these videos.
This is great info. It is so much clearer seeing the measurement on a person rather than a 2 D drawing. Can I confirm that the tape lifts up over the bust at the front for high bust measurement ie isn't parallel to the floor?
It’s difficult to get it parallel on your own and yes, it will lift slightly at the front with the idea that we measure above where we have all the breast tissue.
Thank you for tackling this subject on your channel. I’ve printed out my measurement chart and am looking forward to further instruction. I struggle with getting a good fit in tops, so this is very helpful. Thanks again!
This is great! I've gotten good at manipulating patterns to fit my waist and bust, but the shoulder width and arm hole length are always off. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
Hi Katrina. Love your information. I looked at your chart for cup sizes. It only goes up to H though . MY friend I want to sew for has a bust difference of 11 inches. 42 upper bust, 53 full bust . .
Karina, thank you so much for this information and the measurements chart! I feel that I am an intermediate sewist, but still struggle with taking these measurements (especially the vertical measurements). This is going to help me grow so much in my sewing!
Really good video Karina! I’ve downloaded my template already and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series. Thank you for your dedication to this art form. I’m a new sewist and I really want to learn these basics and your way of explaining things makes me want more! Marie from 🇬🇧
Hi. I've watched the video a few times and I'm confused about where the neck measurement is. The nape of the neck is in the back. I put on a thin necklace and measured the flat width between the two parts of the necklace that hang down around the base of my neck. Is this correct? The same with the bust point. Does the base of the neck intersect with the shoulder line? Tx for any clarification you can give me.
It’s the high point of the shoulder… base of the neck…. that width from one side to the other. It is from here that we measure down to the bust or waist. I never mentioned the neck circumference or the nape of the neck that would be at the back.
I am also confused about the Across Front Neck measurement. I reread your answer to the neck question, tried a necklace as reference, and I think I am 10”. That seems a lot. Love the video series!
I love that you’re doing this series, I always have trouble fitting myself. Now I think I can do it, with your help. I have one question, when using the bust measurement to choose a pattern, do I use the high bust or bust circumference?
Depends on the pattern that you are using and if it has cup sizes. Also using the high bust has an extra step and I will discuss this in detail as the series goes on.
Hi again Karina. For measuring armhole depth, bust height, and shoulder to front waist height, should I use same starting point as I used when taking across the neck measurement? I'm sorry if I'm driving you nuts with questions-I'm a detail oriented person and want to be sure to get these measurements right! I'm learning so much!
I’m really loving your series but I have one question about measuring, when you measure your neck are you measuring the point from where your shoulder starts or just across The front? Thanks
Karina, thank you so much for creating this course! I measured myself today and am looking forward to the other videos in this course! For the neck measurement, how do I know where to start and stop measuring on my neck? Are there any point of references like the shoulder joint bones for the shoulder to shoulder width measurement?
Karina.....(hopefully that was spelt correctly)......good day I'm looking at the measurement video....again....however I was wondering....if you do not have a flatter tummy area.....do you suggest putting the elastic around that area and the fullest part of the hip as well? Please help!!
Ha, timely! Just finished a woven top and it is too small. It is annoying, I made my size according to the chart, it says loose fitting but it is tight under the arms and my bust just juts out. Awful. I was thinking I just won't bother with woven tops anymore. My frame is small so I cannot make a huge size but although I plan for my bust, grade out, check sizing etc. The bust just gets in the way of a decent fit.
Has anyone tried using the template to get the arm depth and bust height measurements. I think in doing it wrong. The bust height spot on but my armhole depth comes up way to high keeps touching my armpit. Having to lower it. What am I doing wrong
I've got my measurements - brilliant video, thank you. One thing I would like to ask is that my back measurement from neck point to waist is longer than from neck point to waist at the front, though you did say that the neck point to waist at the front should be longer. I can't seem to make it any different.
Do you have a high round back? That can make the back longer than the front. Make sure you are measuring from the exact same area at the base of your neck.
Taking the bicep measurements is that where the drop shoulders start at? I’m short so I always have shortened the sleeves but was curious where that top of a drop shoulder starts on me.
I have watched this video multiple of times. I have one question. I am not sure where you are measuring across your neck. Is it all the way up to the shoulder at the base of the neck? i think not because of the number. Can you tell me a little clearer? thank you.
Thanks Karina. I went through my pattern stash and found New Look 6148 is the closest I have to fit your suggested pattern requirements. Do you think View B would work for following along with you? I've always hated adjusting patterns and hoping this series changes my perspective.

Just across. It’s the neck width, not the circumference.

Do you have a high round back? That can make the back longer than the front. Make sure you are measuring from the exact same area at the base of your neck.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedlesI have slightly round shoulders but not a high round back - no 'hump' as it were like I see on some older ladies. I'm 75.
Taking the bicep measurements is that where the drop shoulders start at? I’m short so I always have shortened the sleeves but was curious where that top of a drop shoulder starts on me.
there is no standard for that as each designer will place it further from the shoulder joint as they please.

The base of the neck, where the seam would be on a garment. Just straight across.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles thank you!! I don't sew anything without looking you up first!!
Thanks Karina. I went through my pattern stash and found New Look 6148 is the closest I have to fit your suggested pattern requirements. Do you think View B would work for following along with you? I've always hated adjusting patterns and hoping this series changes my perspective.
View B looks perfect. I will be showing how to transform the very angled french dart into a regular dart. It could be easier to work with that way.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thanks for the reply. I have no problem sewing darts but I have never moved their position so that will be interesting.
The free printable shows as not available, is there any way to get one?
It is available. You need to type the password. I mention it in the video.
I'm having trouble getting the password to work. Has it changed?
It has not changed. It’s limitlesssewing …. All together
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles thank you. I'll keep trying. I love your channel 💜
