Bob truly has a “one of a kind” $9800 guitar🤘Unfortunately the kind that won’t stay in tune..
Doubt that's a one of a kind feature but a pretty lame differentiation for a 9800 guitar! Subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Pretty sure that guitar just gave me Epilepsy. Just looking at it is like a strobe light on a disco ball with random lasers shooting around the room. And it sounds exactly the same.
Dude, Steve spent like 40 mins cutting the nut. It CLEARLY has fret problems. I mean, what isn't wrong with it? Subscribe and join the madness
This is how I feel everytime I try to love a Les Paul. I love looking at them...then I grab my closest RG and the world is right again...
I love les Paul's, the looks of this one exacerbates how much the fact that this one sucks is ridiculous. I LOVE my les Paul's, but this one is what nightmares are made of. Subscribe and join the madness James 🙌
Guitars are made to be played. It's unfortunate that some beautiful guitars don't play or sound very well
Preach dude!
There has to be a solution to the tuning and intonation issue , I have a luithier that is also a very close friend of mine and he has always told me , as far as setting up a guitar properly you have to take a look at the instrument as a whole and try to obtain perfection within the constraints of the instrument as a whole , I am sure that les paul is salvageable, its just gonna take some work
Agreed
He's completely right Joseph. I sent this video to Steve. The nut was cut so poorly that we both figured it'd be good. Nope. Nope. I'm gonna guess it needs some fret work. But man, this one has been a bitch. Subscribe and joinnthe madness Joseph
My 2 cents: if you’re gonna spend that much lettuce, hire a private luthier. There’s nothing quite like a guitar that is specifically made for you. Rock on 🤘
It's ridiculous, for 10k you could get 2 or 3 total custom builds or some pretty rad vintage stuff. This guitar is doomed.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist oh it will get a prize spot as a closet queen for a couple of decades until someone pulls it out and plays it for kicks. Much like those 70s Ibanez Gibson copies. Back in the case they go.
One more piece of advice from an old man who went there and came back again: Be about the ding, not the bling. You want it to stay in tune and double as a melee weapon. 🤣🤘 Rock on
PS if you want that much bling on a neck, consider a bolt on as they tend to get better results. Those Gem models are holding up just fine and stay in tune 🤣😱🥓
It's a damn Gibson , of course it has to be played, whether it be a work of art or not....guitars are tools of art after all. Another cool video Benny!
Thanks so much Mark, right on brother! Sharing is caring 🙌
I have 10 Les Pauls, an SG, a V & an Explorer & I play every single one of them at least once a week once every two weeks at most. Don’t have quite as many as you but I totally get the idea of buying a guitar to play. Of the 10 Les Pauls one is a Murphy Lab re-issue & 2 are Custom Shop re-issues & I play them all.
Hell yeah russ! And you clearly care about your instruments. Play every single one of them. While you're at it, subscribe and join the madness 🙌
I'm with ya man. Guitars are meant to be played and play the shit out of every last one of mine. People think that you can't play a guitar and keep it mint at the same time.......that is horseshit.
You have some of the nicest, "don't touch me" kinda guitars and you're just like me, you enjoy them. That's why they're gonna have so much MOJO. Case queens are cool when there's a story like grandpa dying, but besides that, play the thing, will ya?
I would argue you can keep it in "very fine" condition. But you can't play it much and keep it "mint'. The words mint and "near mint" have been so bastardized that we forgot what they mean. They mean essentially unplayed. You cannot play a guitar and help it unplayed.
@John Scott Major people have bastardized selling to other people since the dawn of people. Near mint exists. My buddy has a near mint 59 es335. I play it every 5 years or so for a few hours. Gruhns said it was the best condition example they ever had. But I've played it plenty. It's still near mint.
@@drjsmajor mint doesn't mean unplayed. "New" means unplayed. Mint means it has been played but looks so good it could basically be sold as new. And yes, you can play a guitar and have it stay in brand new condition. I do it all the time. I don't wear jewelry, zippers, or buttons when I play. Nothing that can scratch the guitar at all. And once a week I clean them with lizard spit and wipe them down. Every string change the get cleaned more meticulously. Just because you cant play without scratching your guitar doesn't mean no one else can. The things that add up to start making a guitar warn are scratches, sweat left on the guitar, nicks, etc. If you don't allow any of those things to happen tell me how is the guitar going to not stay in the same condition?
Totally agree that guitars are meant to be played. I would totally gig a $10k guitar if I could afford one. Also think that if I’m paying that much money for a guitar, it should be perfect and almost play itself. Pity Gibson doesn’t think so.
It's a bummer this guitar is so lame. You could have 2 or 3 custom builds for that price. Or a beautiful vintage (or 2) guitars. But alas, you can't win em all. Subscribe and join the madness vince!
Honestly, It is a work of art visually. Sonically... It's an intonation train 🚆 wreck 🤣
It's clearly got a lot of perfect variables to sucking
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist yus indeed 🤣🙌
I can't take my eyes off how the fluoro bulbs reflect on the lacquer. I'd be ashamed to put on a finish that rough- it looks corrugated.
$10,000? Hell no.
1000% agree. Subscribe and join the madness 🙌
WOW, and Man-Oh-Man
The guitar reminds me of a woman I used to date! Really pretty on the outside, sour and unworkable to the core.
Price Tag aside, I'm not sure how a guitar could be so wacked. I've worked on $200 Chibsons that intonated perfectly with a low action.
IMHO, at this point the only thing remaining that could be causing the problem is a messed up fret-job.
If the fret's crowns are not centered and even its like having the frets in the wrong places.
Tell Bob to have a Luthier level, re-crown and polish the frets, that might help. Just My $.02 Cents
As a Lover of Les Paul Guitars this pains my heart to listen to................................
You're definitely right. Steve has never let me down but we didn't get much into it because the nut was cut so shallow and uneven. Then I go to make this demo and LOOK! RIDICULOUS
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Just remember, it could always be worse.
+1 to Bob for letting you use his guitar again.
@@hkguitar1984 I told him I was getting it setup, which I did, but damn, I did not expect this video
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I can only imagine your frustration and disbelief and then disappointment. If You and Bob ever find out what is the root cause of the current condition, could you please post what finally remedied the problem.
The moment I saw Bling-less Benny, I knew this was going to be a Bob's Guitar! That face when you hit the first chord made me LOL!
His guitar is haunted
The fact that most people have to save up for a good long while to buy a $2,500 guitar should be your first clue that a $10K Custom Shop guitar isn't going to move as many units. Once you get past the price tag, you have to get into some of the QC issues that seem to be plaguing Gibson the last several years. Unaffordability + unreliability = I wouldn't buy one even if I HAD that kind of money.
I agree. I think it's ridiculous. You could buy 2-3 custom builds for that and certainly many better and more valuable vintage instruments. In having encountered 1000s of instruments, this is the worst case I've encountered. Subscribe and join the madness Andrew 🙌
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I believe I will, actually.
The guitars tone is fucking insane, but the tuning ,lol
It's a super bummer. You'd think recutting the nut correctly would have done her right. Nope, I suspect she needs some fretwork, too. Bob's problem, not mine! Subscribe and join the madness 🙌
After you tuned it, it sounded fine to me..
The thing is it may sound fine for a few chords but then I'll go from playing an open e which sounds good to a d and it'll sound horrible. That's the thing, it's not OVERTLY terrible, it's just literally unusable in a real band or studio situation and completely unreliable. Wild stuff
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I’m so new to guitar I honestly can’t tell.. I really hope as I get better I will notice these things, i practice daily but still can’t get chords or chord patterns and never mind chord structure.. I gotta get some sleep now, but I really do believe you could make some awesome how to videos.. please.. have a good night, thank you
@B mint I'll be happy to make some how to videos
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist thank you
@@bmint thinking of some as we speak because of this comment. What type of how to videos would you personally like to see?
Yea, ill just continue saving up for the adam jones gibson les paul. which already is a lot because there is so much demand for them still.
If you were to replace that gibson bridge pick up what would u replace it with? i want to play it in b standord metal. So i was thinking like a dimarzio super 3 or x2n but whats your opinion on it?
I wouldn't. It has 57s. Those are amazing pickups. This guitar has the worst natural resonance issues of any guitar I've encountered in my time on this planet.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist i meant in the adam jones gibson, it has there high gain. should i just put the seymour distortion in it?
I've been waiting for this one!
Me too, I was really hoping for a different result. I mean, it probably needs fretwork but this axe has sullied me. Subscribe and join the madness
I don’t know if it looks this way in real life. But on camera the finish looks lumpy and bumpy like the quilted maple. I noticed it the first time you showed this stunning and heartbreaking guitar. My only real question is why didn’t “bob” send it back to Gibson with a note that reads my 10,000 dollar guitar will not intonate!! Please address and fix!! I’ll admit it! I’m a Gibson fanboy and if I ever had the means of ordering something from the crimson division and that beautiful unplayable thing showed up. I’d probably have to drive all the way down to Tennessee and lose my Fu€&!n mind! Hahah me and my Massachusetts accent dropping my “R’s” all over the place cuz I’d be wicked pissed off ahahha
The fact that he's not angry about it is kinda hilarious to me. He told me when he got it back he played it for 3 minutes and put it back in the case. I called Steve, my luthier, who is literally amazing and we spent an hour talking about resonant frequencies. Unless you have true tempered frets, you'll never find a guitar that plays both an e and d chord PERFECTLY in tune, but this has to be the craziest set if factors to make this guitar literally so shitty. The finish isn't nice and I'm not even a fan of the top. I love gibson, but this is the sorta guitar that builds gibson hate and it makes sense. I have 50 and have never had a problem like this. I have a 175 guitars and have never had such a difficult one. I don't understand why he didn't send it right back, the truth is, he probably didn't even notice until I did!
Wait , these are all your private guitars? Wtf i thought it was a store.
Amazing, you should hear/see him play the piano, unreal talent.
Neurotic?
They are all my guitars, except that one, that's Bob's guitar!!!
Thanks brother, I have been debating doing a video on the modes on the piano.
Accurate Dan. It's almost like it's my brand. Subscribe!
I have a sneaking suspicion that, since most people do not play $10,000 guitars and most do put them on the wall....I think the bridge is not in the proper place. Gibson being Gibson said, this is a wall hanger, no one will know.....and they sold it anyway. Still a beautiful piece of art though. Should be playable though, they kinda missed the point!
It has resonance issues. Unless you have true tempered frets, you'll never be able to play an e chord and a d chord and have them be PERFECTLY in tune. But there are a ton of factors to this guitar that make it the worst les paul I've ever played. Nothing to do with the bridge. Subscribe and join the madness Jesse
So the real question is... should one get an Altima or an Ultima?!?! Holy shit that 7th fret E-chord... wtf... and it's been to and from the luthier too. Are the tuners slipping or something?? (Maybe it needs robot tuners lol)
It needs to be burned. I'm def sending this video to Steve. He's never failed me. I'm curious to see what he will say.
LOL, ROBOT-Tuners, Ha ha ha ha ha
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Just remember, due to the lacquer finish you are not allowed to burn that guitar in Kalifornia.
@@hkguitar1984 I'll let Bob know. I suggested he take it into outerspace.
@@hkguitar1984 if robot tuners are the answer then you need to reevaluate your life!!!!
I didn't expect to see a follow-up to the original vid lol.
Bummer it didn't fix itself. My guess is the fret spacing might be off. A compensated nut might be worth a try, but it's pretty obvious someone didn't do a good final inspection before it left the factory, or the plek-job was sub-standard. Noobs or people without a decently trained ear would probably never notice the issue, which means that their shiny new 10k guitar is actually making them sound worse than they really are. If you spend 5 figures on an axe, that thing should be able to play like buttah. Just my opinion...
It'd be interesting to see what it would actually take to get that thing in tune. Maybe you or bob could bring to a master luthier and get their opinion? Be a fun video at least... =)
Steve, my luthier, has been doing it for 50 years. I have 45 minutes of him explaining how poorly cut the nut was. He recut it and we put it back in the case. I sent him this video and he agrees that this guitar has the worst natural resonance of any guitar he's ever worked on (and he's very very competent). This is the first time I've actually said the guitar is straight up wonky on a lot of factors.

Why do you keep buying that Gibson crap? Get a Japanese-made ESP and you won't have to fret over the quality.
ESP before LTD existed, yeah...but Ibanez is tried and true
@@younkinjames8571 I can’t decide between Ibanez and ESP. Got one ESP right now and two Ibanez. Ended up buying my daughter an Ibanez as well.
