I was born and bred in Smethwick and therefore knew Bearwood well when I lived there. After seeing this video, I'm VERY glad that I moved to the south of England.

I was born in Birmingham, spent the first four years of my life in Bartley Green.....but then moved to Smethwick and spent the rest of my childhood there. I moved to Cumbria in my early twenties with my mom, as this is where she’s originally from and although I don’t miss the West Midlands as a place very much, I do have some very precious childhood memories.....especially of my best friend, visiting her house for sleepovers, enjoying Safeway pizza, sharing dreams of faraway places and people, finding fun in the most simple ways such as Pick ‘n’ Mix from Woolworths, playing “getting lost” around the backstreets of posher areas, almost drowning from laughter in Thimblemill Baths, having the biggest crush on my best friend’s brother’s best friend.

I was born in Bearwood Smethwick in 1948 and lived in Lightwoods road. I played in lightwoods park and Warley wood's, went to Bearwood road school, went to St Mary's church. This video has brought back so many memories and thanks for making it. I am 75 now and live in Weston super Mare but I still think of dear old Bearwood and it seems to be still a nice place to live.

At 15:50 if you walked down the road about 100 yards you'd come across the pub (bar) called The Barleycorn. Spent many a night (and day ) in that place 🤣 although now it's a function hall of some sort. Bearwood used to be nice (a long time ago) when I used to attend bearwood school

I used to visit Bearwood Road way back 70s, 80s, 90s last time 2017.
I used take my ole Girl friend to a very nice women exsculsive clothes from Italy and I paid most them as a gift. Where the Bearwood Bus Terminus theres a park there Warley Woods and I think the other park called lightwoods park. Again across from the Bus Terminus is the road call Lordswood Road and its long and I mean long posh houses big houses and that Road leads to Harborne plus there's a nice park to visit. Oh now its Called Harborne Village and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Whatever happened to Bearwood? It was a delightful shopping centre in the early sixties. I can close my eyes and still see the shops as they were. There was an upmarket patisserie called "Brunners". A butcher run by Mr Jordan. Timothy Whites, Foster Brothers, Evans (toy shop), Boots, and Woolworth. Also a shop that stocked electrical bits and pieces called Feltons.

it's lit now tbh, it isn't your generic high street. There's like greek, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian, African food on the same street.

I've lived here for 66 years and recall all the places you mentioned. There was a clothes shop in the 60s and 70s called Lloyds I think, run by a middle-aged married couple. It was situated in the row of shops where The Raja Tandoori Restaurant used to be. There was a music/ record shop on Sandon Road run by a family and son which, in the 80s, moved across the road. I can't recall the name, but the son had bad acne. It seems like TC Hayes has been here forever. I recall buying a tape recorder there in 1972. The Lightwoods Chip Shop with the orange chips was there in the 1950s, but the original recipe seems lost since the new owners took over about 4 years ago. There was a Co-op, the original shop, where a friend of my mother's worked. She was a little middle-aged lady with black hair and glasses called Mrs Fox.
