It feels like only yesterday when I posted the first Threnody! Though I’ve now lost the love I once sang it for, I’ve gained a spooktacular community. Thanks for haunting my channel and this series for all these years.

THE LORE. I'M SCREAMING. For those who don't understand, this is what I've picked up:
The Empress is death itself, the grim reaper perhaps? At first people look up to/worship her, but then they turn on her when she doesn't prevent their loved ones from dying. This all adds up until The Empress can't take it anymore, and maybe she has to take the soul of someone she loved See line "I can't get rid of you". She takes out her emotions so she can stop feeling so bad, forming the stages of grief. They end up changing the human race to different races e.g. the witches and vampires and The Empress orders them to be trapped. She offers a deal to people willing to help her: They can live for as long as they want (aka eternal life) if they assist. When they want to end themselves, they just renounce their faith and will finally 'go'. So the soliders are basically zombies Angileh included. At the end we see Angileh looking at the sigil Brier is trapped in and seeing it is cracked. This suggests Brier will escape soon. I hope I got it right!

Kind of feels like the Empress might be a representation of death 🤔Especially since “Death” is capitalized constantly throughout the song. Or how she goes that she can’t choose the lives she takes away. Or even the simple line, “The sands of time don’t stop for anyone.” What if all of the artifacts were originally a part of her, but she hated those parts, and so she separated them from her… and now all she has left is grief. She foolishly thinks that by getting rid of them for good, even that grief will fade.

No you're not just yapping, you are definitely getting the gist of it! The Empress is death and the artifacts were indeed part of her (her emotions) but she took them out because she didn't want to feel grief anymore and just get on with her work.

But seriously speaking, I love how the cosmic irony only becomes increasingly apparent with each new Threnody. To know it extends all the way to the Empress herself is absolutely riveting

I KNEW IT! I KNEW SHE RIPPED THOSE FEELINGS OUT TO BE SOME UNFEELING DEITY! I guess she genuinely wanted to stop hurting. I wasn't sure previously if she did it to be above all emotion or if she did it to give people an enemy to fight so they'd join her church. (*cult* what? Who said that?) I love that the Empress didn't know they'd become real creatures with identities. Girl pulled the biggest oopsie of the century. And knowing her eye "gift" makes the humans semi-immortal? That clears up so much of the timeline with Angileh sealing away Brier. I've got a million questions but also a ton of new answers! I'm screaming hsjsns. The art was beautiful and watching the demons get sealed away as they cry out in anguish?? CHEF'S👏🏻KISS. Absolutely obsessed. You keep outdoing yourself! Okay this comment is too long, bye

So she's Death, but she couldn't handle the emotions brought on by her job? Yikes! No wonder everything is such as mess. Wonderful song and story, as always.
This reminds me of a plot thread from the ToykoPop Labryinth sequel manga, where one of the characters had the power to remove feelings and aspects of others to create new beings.....it didn't end well for them either.

How did I not notice it before ? The artefacts are the 5 stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargainning, depression and acceptance. That's why acceptance surrendered withought a fight. Just as it's namesake allows to recover from loss, their sacrifice gave this word a chance for a better future.

@@Missmi In my defense, I only remembered the names of acceptance and denial. The other two flew me by and I'm not sure if the fith one was mentionned directely.
Also, I wasn't sure jow literal their names were since they all have two names.

@@Missmi Regarding acceptance, maybe I'm just misreeding it but they seem to be the most bound by their namesake.
The other three (not counting the fith one since they have yet to make a proper apearance) only gave a few hints of who they are trough their actions. For instance, bargainning making a deal with denial and then with their owner. Acceptance however, is specifically known for having accepted their fate. Is it intentional ?

I am obsessed with this new character design!! I always love Death personas, just giving a face to the concept is always so interesting! Especially loved the line “I hate the tears, they interfere” like damn, so cold, but also honest! So if I’m understanding correctly, is she like, the origin of vampires, then?

Okay, okay... Seeing new lore dropping... And I'm here for it. A first real look at Depression and Acceptance in the lineup of artifact personalities, first of all. Stunning. And Death... Interesting. So people worshipped her like a deity buy clearly a lot of them were angry because she's Death. Just worshipping her won't keep her from taking your soul or the souls of those you love. It seems to me like she MADE the stages of grief for herself as a way to harness her own pains and didn't expect them to sort of form their own autonomy, maybe. And now makes immortal soldiers to keep them all in check?
Yessss it's soooo lore heavy this time! And yes she made the stages of grief, she took the grief out of her heart and it became people. :3

@@Missmi For what I understand, the emperess is planning for Angileh to kill her (the emperess, not Brier). Perhaps even take her place : "If death means anything to you then end it now be someone you".

Nobody can see her until their life is in the balance. E.g. they are about to perish, they are in a coma etc etc ...her soldiers can see her though

I can’t believe it, my theory about The Empress was actually true!
For context, one year ago I left a comment on Part Eleven: Desmodus, theorizing that the artifacts are living manifestations of The Empresses own grief and that her sealing them away represents her trying to hide her grief instead of learning how to move on from it, and I was right! Minus her being death itself, I didn’t see that coming.
Also I really liked this episode and I’m excited to continue to see how everything keeps coming together.

At least on the bright side The Empress acknowledged she royally fricked up and is actively doing something to stop it unlike other stories I've seen where higher force/s unintentionally releases a dark power onto the "mortal" world but forces the mortals to clean up the higher force's/s' mistake themselves

Happy Threnody anniversary , Mina! 🎉 I don't even know where to start with this lore bomb drop. I was NOT expecting such a vast complex backstory for the Empress. I'm still in shock over the sheer planning and execution leading up to the reveal of Empress as Death herself and the stages as parts of herself she pulled out etc! (You will be hearing many more unhinged thoughts and theories from me soon) . So many questions answered, yet more arise 👀 I'm so impressed with the quality of each part and how it continues to go up. 🤍 Despite the numerous challenges Threnody has faced over the years, I'm glad it still carries on and I'm so thrilled to be a part of your community 🖤

In a way! The stages are part of her - they're her grief, taken out of her heart. So they can be considered that if you like

My Interpretation:
The people worship The Empress like a God and pray to her to end their suffering. But she isn’t a God and their suffering continues, causing people to grow bitter and angry towards her. The Empress is heartbroken that she can’t help everyone and wants to get rid of her pain. Through magic she removes her grief, but it somehow gains sentience and becomes 5 powerful creatures. 4 of them cause chaos, but the fifth one, Acceptance works with The Empress to capture and contain the other 4, at the cost of The Empress becoming immortal (because she wears the Acceptance Hat?).
Reading through the other comments, I guess I was slightly wrong. Was The Empress ever human or has she always been Death?

I will talk about my love for this series on the anniversary of its release by Mina Rose. First, I thank Mina Rose for every episode she makes. I don’t know how to talk about Threnody, as it is the best and most wonderful series in the whole world. I don't know how to say, and no matter what I write about Threnody, it is the best, the most wonderful, the most beautiful, and I love it with all my heart. The reason why people love Threnody more and more, and with every episode their love for it increases, and it is Miss Mina Rose. She is the reason why a person loves her series. Firstly, her kindness, her love, and her voice, which penetrates the depths of the heart. I experienced this when I watched Threnody. It was an amazing thing, especially the seventh episode, because it remained stuck in my head, and the richness ran through my veins, and the fine art of Mina and Alyssa in particular, they bring something into the depths of a person, and I love the Threnody series. I really don't know how to express my happiness and love for this series. I will try all the ways to express all my love in my words, but the only thing I will say is that I love it very much. I love Threnody and Mina, and she deserves support and love.

@@Missmi I think I interpreted the Empresses' seemly unheard words to Angileh as implying that the latter didn't understand the Empresses purpose or limits and foreshadowing that she might become tempted to instead rely on the "demon's" power instead. Though I had falsely misremembered and thought she had the Cap in Eton's song, mostly because of the shared motif; so that's on me.
Now I'm curios as to how much the Empress gave up to make her champions and if they or the "demons" are separately the taint on mankind.
WOOOOOO NEW THRENODY VIDEO!!!! Finally a good look at The Empress and Depression!! The Empress is much less evil than I thought she would be, she’s just flawed instead. The lyrics a really good here, same goes for the art!! Overall awesome job!!!

So it looks like Acceptance is the most "benevolent" of the Threnodies since they're not causing any havoc which makes sense since acceptance is the most positive of the stages of grief

Ah, happy anniversary to this long running series of songs from Miss Mina. Lots of familiar faces from previous parts appearing in silhouette bubbles and through their key objects here. And with The Empress, a death goddess who fused with a mortal priestess, maker of enchanted objects (that grew lives and personalities of their own), the veil of the larger Threnody world parts a little. We get a larger scope for just how these interwoven threads, these melodies, all came to be a cosmic tangle in present times, thanks to the actions of unknown dire consequence made long ago.

I been looking forward to this!!! It was amazing!!!
Ok so first omg is the Empress supposed to be death? Like how the four Artifacts are the stages of grief? The line “The lives I take away” “My hands are tied the sands of time don't stop for anyone” and “I hate the tears they interfere with what I have to do” all point me to this conclusion. I think over time she wanted to become numb to the feelings of grief so she took them out of herself and they became who we now know as the Artifacts. But over time they started to form identities and was making things worse for her by attacking people. So after this she gave one of Angileh family members a life that she couldn’t claim so they would never tire, age, or die until they both decided their time was up.
She gave Angileh family this so they could stop and help her stop the Artifacts if they ever came back. 3:56 I also think on some level she feel bad for what she did to the Artifacts and is using Angileh to keep an eye on them.
I also think the theory of her being death work really well because it would make her part of a threnody being the threnody of Life, Aging, and then Dieing.
The only time I can’t put together is who the woman at 0:55 is at first I thought she was Brier but now idk tho
Oh and I also think the reason as to why the Artifacts don’t have eyes is because they don’t have a soul of there own after all the eyes are the window to the soul.
Oh and I don’t really know what At 2:43 is supposed to be exactly is it saying four of the five artifacts made their own races?
@@gummiworldnotes8707 Yes she is death! And yes she took her feelings out when they became too much and were making it hard to do her job. The woman at 0:55 is a new character called Lenore, she will become more important in a later Threnody. This is just her introduction :)
And you're right, four of the five artifacts made their own races. They influenced humankind and warped them into their own type of people.
Oh, and the no eyes for the stages because eyes are the windows to the soul theory is PERFECTLY ACCURATE! I was hoping someone would pick up on that!
