It somewhat depends on the school you go to and how often people "dress up" for class. Usually it's a good mix of tote bags and backpacks, but at my school people definitely use backpacks more
It depends. Most students carry a backpack. I'm in college and I have a backpack. But I'm an engineering major and I have a lot of books to carry as well as my laptop. At the end of the day, it's not as much about how cute you look but how practical it is.
in my college you can use both or neither and it would be fine! I study architecture, so when I have to bring my laptop I will use a backpack... If im going to theory or math classes I would only take my purse and a notebook =)
