i don't agree with "don't study alone" because i study better alone tbh no matter how smart the other person is ..but i just focus better alone

I found that the only way for me to get the solid 4.0 was to first quit the part time job I was working 20-30 hours per week, then I found that I would need to sit down in the library for the better part of the night and read. I'm talking hours of reading. I'd go to the library from 5-9:30pm every night and would read untill I could read no more.
I did this because I realized that I wanted to go to graduate school, and because I knew I was capable of earning better better grades than "B's" all the time.
I was really happy when I started to get 100% on tests and enventually I would end the quarter with my first ever 4.0 gpa. It's really a great feeling.
All you need as a student is motivation and commitment. Once you have those two things, more than half the battle is done. The other half is all about discipline and follow through.
Anyone can do it, but it takes hard work, and a certain level of finacial stability (for me, working was my crux. I simply couldn't get A's while working 30 hours a week).

I'm a professor and use this in my classes on the first day to give a student's perspective on how to get an A. It's a lovely video and the student's seem to enjoy it. My only feedback would be that "Rate My Professor" is not a reliable source for professor information as the grumpy students seem to post to that source more often than do satisfied students. The best people to ask about professors are those who have taken the class in the recent past or your advisor. The bottom line is that you can learn from anyone--good, bad or indifferent--as long as you want to learn.

I have not long finished my first year at university, and I didn't do very well at all. Despite the hardwork and putting in so much effort I was lucky to pass. My grades showing a pattern of getting worse. Thanks for posting this video, it is really helpful and thanks so much for the tips.

Joe Bloggs I too can relate to not having grades reflecting effort. It really ain't fair when someone works hard, and yet no matter how much effort is put in... the person still gets low grades.

my professor writes a lot of things on the board but he does not allow us to take notes and treats us like we're babies. he also likes to humiliate students and goes too far on calling us out on stuff. he's also very 50/50 on how he's going to answer a question. sometimes, when a student asks something he'll answer it (not even clearly), but other times he just goes off on a tangent about whatever he's upset about and goes way too far and just humiliates the student. like one day, somebody asked about if PS I and PS II referred to dark reaction and light reaction. and he just went off about how what he wrote on the board shouldn't be a negotiation or whatever when the student was only confused. so i'm just too afraid to ask because i'm afraid of his reactions. he also likes to bangs the board every so often to make sure we're paying attention. it's really annoying and a little straining just to sit there and try to listen even when the material is already hard, there's a lot of stuff being thrown at you, and he doesn't allow us to take notes, and he has a really strong french accent. even he has admitted that his english isn't that great and this is going on way too long so i'll just end here and say that sometimes you'll just have to end up teaching yourself everything for a class because the professor is no help at all and they'll make you question why they became a professor. ok. sorry for the long rant. you gave really good advice.

Thank you so much for this video , I actually just finished my freshman year and it wasn't that good , I didn't fail any classes but anyways it wasn't as good as I wanted to be . I also had a chemistry class last semester that I passed with a B- and honestly I found huge difficulties understanding and applying formulas . I'm studying Engineering and management science so yeah the worst is yet to come . I really hope I can improve myself as you did . Thank you so much again ♥

This is freaking spot on. I did sooo bad in freshman year... didn't get ANY sleep, I pretended to myself that I knew everything and that I didn't need to study, was NEVER prepared for class, never did any of the readings, forgot SO MANY assignments..... I went from being an A+ student in high school to a C student in university. But I couldn't afford a lot of the textbooks so that had to do with it a bit. Also, you're SO pretty!!!!!!!!

I went to office hours, I went to the extra SI/ TA sessions, studied with other students out of class, a chem tescher offered to tutor me, I assisted tutoring hours, and I read the text book. Im not sure if my major is right for me, but I will continue to work as dilkigentky next semester and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for your tips and advices :-) I'm really going to try to apply them when I go back to school. I realized I also did most of the mistakes you mentioned when I first started college. I also had a hard time and was falling behind in class, especially in Chemistry and Algebra. I was also taking up a pre-med course, and those subjects just weren't my type. I had to get a tutor too. I had a hard time in my study habits since I was still adjusting after being home schooled.
Being a freshman sure isn't easy, huh? Especially during tests, which was one of the most stressful times (I hope you could make a video about how to reduce test anxieties if you haven't made one yet). Anyways, I had to stop from college for a while because I got diagnosed with a mood and anxiety disorder. So yeah. Maybe just take a break first to get myself prepared when I go back to finish my course.
Thanks again! Keep it up ;-)

Hi Ally, thanks a lot for doing this video, I've loved it! :)
Last year was my freshman year at college and it didn't go as I expected AT ALL! One really big problem for me is that here in Spain we just don't use textbooks in uni. Also, I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety problems.
I'm great at doing timetables and I do most of the things about organisation that you've said, but a huge problem is that it seems impossible for me to actually stick to them! So I always end up procrastinating and leaving everything for the last day, and that is horrible for my anxiety.
I used to have great marks but I've never had good studying habits, so when I try to study I struggle to concentrate. It's so hard that I would always finally give it up.
This year I'm starting Medicine and it's a second opportunity to start again and be the student that I've always wanted to be.
Help me please! Do you have any tips for me?

When I'm struggling with focusing on studying at home it often helps for me to switch up my study environment and go the library. Then you're solely focused on studying, and once I get one or two productive days in, it's somehow easier to keep it up when I go back to my own room.
