Nice video. This is a Nissan President JS; which is the short wheelbase variant of the regular Nissan President. The JS version is close to identical to the Infiniti Q45 made from 1990 - 1996, so only the short wheelbase was sold in the USA. The same generation of Q45 was also sold in Japan as the Nissan Infiniti Q45.
I had a few Q45s. They were very well built but had the same issues GM had with cadillacs....as in a lot of Nissan parts bin bits on the interior. They also were very tinny feeling when closing doors and trunklid which was surprising considering how heavy these cars were. Slam a door blindfolded and you would think you were in a Sentra. It is the quietest car I have ever owned...almost no outside noise gets in....as in you can park with Windows up and you cant hear pedestrians talking as they walk by the car. Road noise is a bit more apparent as in any unibody car, but still a very very quiet car. The VH45DE was a hell of an engine in its day..way ahead of its time. It made a bit more power in the q45 variant (at least the 1989 to 1993 ones.) No matter, they were all underrated at 276hp and these cars were one of the fastest sedans of its era. IMHO the Ford Coyote 5.0 engine which was introduced in 2011 was literally reverse engineered from this Nissan design (which was introduced in 1989...which means it even predates the Ford Modular engines). They look almost IDENTICAL. The Q45 was the short version and it also had a different front clip and decklid. Otherwise, with exception of some luxury options a President JS is identical to the USDM Q45. It is a big car in length , but it is not very wide, so interior room is very tight especially when considering the size of the car. The doors are very wide and take up interior space. Its RWD so the trans tunnel is huge and the rear window is sharply raked, so this is a weird mix of fullsize car parking drawbacks with compact car space headaches. The proportions are weird, because you have a car that is the length and wheelbase of a chevy caprice with the width of an Altima. This meant that I had a "fullsize" sedan that struggled to accomodate a child seat and a trunk that could hardly fit a baby stroller. For its credit, the trunk opening is large and square so a lot of boxes can fit in there. Lots of suitcases of money or cases of beer fit very well. The trunk is very small, again, in relation to the otherwise large size of the car, because the 25 gallon fuel tank is under the parcel shelf, along with the amp for the stereo and the body control module. Combined with a decorative divider that makes it aesthetically appealing, these components take up half the room in the trunk. Its 15 square feet, but a car that has a footprint like this one should have a much larger trunk. BTW each door has its own window switch! The console ones were so the DRIVER can roll the other windows up and down. Be forewarned, these cars hate ethanol. Its an uncoated steel gas tank and the injectors are notorious for failure when exposed to modern gas. They are also crazy expensive side feed units. Be prepared to feed it. The engine sucks down gas like an old American big block. (The car weighs more than the same-era Chevrolet Caprice which has something to do with that.) I usually averaged 12mpg with mine. Yes, 12mpg. The emission label states displacement is 4.5L or 274cid if you calculate by bore and stroke, but the engine sounds and feels like a much bigger unit. Open the hood and there the engine sits, hogging the engine bay like an elephant in a bathtub. Break out the tape measure and you will find that the VH45DE has nearly identical exterior dimensions to a Ford 460. It's like Nissan took a 60s intermediate musclecar and decided to rebirth it in the 1990s, space inefficiency and brash power and bad fuel mileage be damned.if only it were marketed as such, maybe it would have taken off. Its a sad case of how maybe Nissan should have not used this car to start a luxury brand. They should have sold THIS CAR as the Maxima (and instead of 4DSC could have been 4DMC or 4 door muscle car) that would have made sense as the Q45 is about the same size and weight as a 1970 Chevelle CONVERTIBLE , but unfortunately about 6 inches narrower...which again makes for a very cozy interior. Keeping with the convertible comparison, trunk space is about the same as the aformentioned Chevelle with THE TOP DOWN. At least the Nissan has a spare tire well. It really was designed to be an executive car because it fails miserably as a family car. For all its faults, I still miss that damn Q45 and if it were a manual trans I would never have let it go. Lastly, comparing this to a Toyota Century is like comparing a Chevy Caprice taxi to a Lincoln town car coachbuilt limo. This car was equivalent to the Toyota Celsior which was sold in the USA as the Lexus LS400. The President was comparable to the Century back in the 1960s but Toyota quickly brought thier A game....and thats coming from a lifelong Nissan fanboy (pre Renault days only). Wanna know how I truly feel about modern Nissan products? I drive a Ford Focus. That saying enough? A lifelong Nissan fanboy drives (and loves) a fuckin Ford.
This car has always fascinated me. Nissan wanted to rival what Toyota had planned with the Toyota Celsior/Lexus LS 400 for the American market. All of the car magazines went gaga for the Lexus and dismissed the Infiniti Q45 mostly. The advertising for Infiniti didn’t help much either. The Infiniti Q45 had innovative features like 4 wheel steering and a special suspension that could sense bumps in the road. It’s too bad it was overlooked by most people when it came out. I used to be a huge Nissan fan too. I owned a 1999 Infiniti I30 for ten years from 2005 - 2015. The current Nissan and Infiniti vehicles just don’t trigger the same desire that they used to. It seems like Infiniti may either get discontinued entirely or bounce back majorly soon with an all electric vehicle lineup.
The Q45 in the US only came in one wheel base! The Q45 was offered in a Base suspension trim, Q45a (with an active suspension), and a Q45T (which had rear Hicas set up)!
I always thought it looked a lot more like the Ford Crown Victoria myself. Literally a Crown Vic with a nicer interior and more power...and much more expensive to work on. I owned a Q45 and loved it, but seriously, just get a nice mercury marauder and you basically have a q45 that wont nickel and dime you to death.
Most A/C Compressors from 1992 and on that have R134A if the temp outside is below 45 degrees Fahrenheit or below 7.22 Celsius. They do this any car 1992 and up so you don't damage the A/C compressor and defrost function as the defrost function works off the compressor as well.
The Q45 was built like a rock. Drove better than an eclass. Faster too. Great ride and luxurious. I had both cars. Loved that q45. In US q45 was in one wheelbase only. I can tell by the side profile that this wheel base on this car is exactly the same wheelbase is the q45 imported to the United States. Same interior basics in the us but with upgraded seat materials. The power seats were different in the us with controls in a more standard location on the side of the seats. My 1990 model came standard with no wood grain. Nissan was trying a new approach to luxury. Many dealers added wood veneer onto every surface they could. Which never aged well. They never sold as well as the Lexus LS400 as the Lexus was a “softer” car for a slightly older crowd. I liked Nissan’s approach. Austere luxury.
The president and the q45 are the same chassis. However they are very and I mean very different. There is a bunch of differences however to many to state
The most expensive Nissan, such a luxurious car, and yet it doesn't have any wood trim? Maybe it was an option, but I'd expect it to be standard on a car like this. I know a lot of people don't like wood trim, but I think it looks good even if it's fake, and adds some extra luxury feel to the car
I have a 1993 Nissan Cima Y32 and cannot find anywhere, or country, that has interior parts. Same for the 1993 Infiniti Q4 which perhaps shares some of the same interior parts. Does anyone know where to source Cima Y32 parts?
In my opinion both the Century and President are perfect luxury sedan. But well, who am I to judge? It is just your opinion, you really have great taste tho!
The first two Presidents the 150 and 250 were really stand alone. These were the only ones. The first Q45 was based on the this President JS. The second gen Q45 was based on the Cima. And both the President and Cima until 2010 were based on the Cedric/Gloria. So I hope I could help you with that. It seems a bit mixed but it´s very easy. 150 and 250 stand alone models later Presidents since this one from 1989 Gloria. And the President, this President and the Cima were different from style until 2002. But the last generations of the President and the Cima from 2002-2010 were both the same design wise.
There was a pivot on the plenum that the cable from the accelerator pedal went to. The cruise control also went to that pivot. Then, a cable went from there to the throttle body. These cars had weird engine control systems. The throttle body also had a wax pellet style mechanical fast idle setup, like an old carbureted car, as well as a computer controlled IAC system. These cars are so underappreciated. They were very overbuilt with many layers of redundancy. I think Nissan fucked up here....they apparently were designing these for very cold (Russian) climates and most of the early ones succumbed to trans failures because the fluid overheated (because most of these were sold in Sunny California). They had TWO trans cooler circuits in the radiator and they started in 2nd gear unless you floored it. Again, designed for Siberian climate. For its credit these had heaters that could just about boil fucking water
They are built very well. They had horrible depreciation and so were not cherished the way the LS400s were. Many were ripped apart for engine swaps because they were cheap to buy. Trans cooler and programming issues ruined thier reputation early on. As far as rust, these were one of the most rust resistant Nissan products ever made. I live in Pennsylvania, where cars rot out in 10 years or less, and Ive never seen one of these things with terminal rust. The paint was also extremely durable. My q45 sat in a field for years before I bought it and it had zero rust. I know where it sits and might just buy it back again (it was tboned after I sold it to a friend, and is such a tank that it was hardly damaged...it was totalled because its old and worth nothing.) I fully believe that these were better built than the 1st gen LS400s. Food for thought...Nissan only sold about 55,000 1st gen Q45s between 1989 and 1996. Lexus sold that many LS400s IN A SINGLE YEAR. Yet, until recently, I was just as likely to see a 1st gen Q as a 1st gen LS400. Which one do you think was better built again? I vote for the Q45.
Beautiful car, very similar to the Infiniti Q45 except that car had a very different/contemporary 90's front clip with no grill and much smaller headlights. Taillights were different too, less chrome. I really hope this beautiful car doesn't get cut up, slammed to the ground with stupid 22" hella-flush wheels. Its too nice to butcher it like that.
Unfortunately this car (especially this generation of the President) was a target for ricers and most of these around are slammed with over sized wheels and horrific body kits
I had a q45 t wich is funny because it had wood in it had 4 doors but it was really no room for a tall person in back or short person I'm 6 ft it had bbs on it with about 265 hp on v8
I dailied my Q45 and loved it. I sold it when I got a good deal on a newer Lincoln. i wish i would have kept it. Good thing is I know where it is and it still runs. I might just buy it back.

The Toyota Aristo and GS (S160) also have an automatically tilting and telescoping steering wheel.
We need Doug Demuro to do a review on this car
90s east coast rappers would have loved this car, since japanese luxury cars were all rage back then.
Notorious B.I.G. and Nas both rapped about riding in an Infiniti Q45. You don’t hear rappers talk about Infiniti any more it seems.

Ive heard these q45s are basically 4 door/sedan 240s in terms of their problems.
If you can explain this in specific terms, I'll pay you $100 USD.
@@cheifbeefloco Their PS systems leak just as bad.
The infinity Q45 in the United States and Canada was also the Nissan maxima with a V8 rear drive configuration full leather and controls up to wazoo.
Are there any old school Japanese wagons that might be LHD?
Datsun 810 and 1st gen Nissan Maxima were both available as wagons and were sold in USA
I've been waiting for a long time to see this review

Just about all those body style Q45's here in the US are about gone from the roads. Can't remember the last time I saw one.
