Who could not have fallen in love with Lauren Tewes? For the role she was cast in, it seemed she was born to play it. She totally sold it. I made it a point not to miss The Love Boat during the 80's. It had such a cheerful vibe. It is missed.
Lauren, or Cindy as she was called when young, lived in a small town in PA w her parents and older brother, Tommy, and sister, Taffy. Her maternal grandparents lived next door. Cindy was a beautiful child, sweet to everyone, and gathered much adoration in return. Her family was a good, loving one, always ready to help a neighbor. When the weather got too much for the elderly grandparents, , they moved to CA. Their daughter, Joann, missed her mom so much that the Tewes' moved to CA to be w them, and the charismatic "Lauren" became an actress. Some years later, her birth town's folks invited her back for the town's anniversary celebration, her being a celebrity. Whether she didn't respond or turned it down, I don't know. Small town ppl, who rarely get favorable opportunities, did not take the rebuff lightly and were also unsympathetic when the news came that she was broke bc the money she earned during her TV career had gone up her nose. You say she was alone, but I know she had at least 2 older siblings, and all three kids were close in age. Wondering where her family was during that time? It was very hard to imagine Lauren not having a group of supporters around her at all stages bc she was the kind of child who, if she fell while sidewalk skating, every mom wi crying range ran outside to assess the damage and comfort her. I guess kids who have worse beginnings may have tougher skin and more resilience when it comes to taking care of themselves. It is, as you say, sad to have had so much and turned to drugs to cope w a lose. Does anyone know what became of Tommy and Taffy, or if she had younger or half/step siblings? Btw, her last name is pronounced "Twees" as in Tweeze(rs) to rhyme w "Trees."
I was 11 years old when the Love Boat began in 1977 and I had a crush on Lauren Tewes character Julie McCoy. I thought she was really cute and sweet. I imagine you bought the playboy issue that she did full frontal/rear nudity in in 1983? Its not mentioned here but that was another reason she was sacked from what was a family show. I've been trying to find the issue but because it sold out its difficult to find. I just remember she was a natural red head & had one of the nicest asses I've ever seen. It seems she never learned her lesson because she did full frontal in playboy again in 1990, this time in some really hot/steamy lesbian themed shower/bath photos with fellow 70s tv icon Joanna Cameron wich resulted in Julie being written out of the Valentine's special reunion episode of the love boat.
Wow, you make it sound like Isaac and Julie was running some kind of ship brothel. And that is so not the case. Isaac did what any bartender would do stand around and wait till some one wanted a drink, you know just like any establishment would. @@FactsVerse Thanks! I liked that she was the "glue" that held the regular cast together. I liked that she was like a wise big sister to Vicky. And I loved her in that episode where the Dance Instructor broke her heart by opting for Lisa Hartman over Julie (though both gals were way too good for him, haha).
Lauren Tewes was the best for the part, but as in most entertainment, there are problems that arise, and she wasn't experienced enough to avoid those traps; that's a shame, but overcoming those traps the producers should have given her a chance for a return. Too bad for that, but she was the best in EVERY WAY for the part that was originally hers in my opinion!
Producers back then made some awful decisions that ruined their own shows. Usually by letting go of women who definitely helped the shows be the hits that they were. Just as Threes Company was never much good after Suzanne Somers was fired, so it was with the Love Boat and Lauren
She deserved to be fired because she was missing days of work and flubbing her lines on the show. She wasn't professional anymore. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I was an extra on set with Tewes who was playing Lieutenant Girard's secretary on the remake of The Fugitive with Tim Daly playing the title role. I had to be told who she was because I didn't recognize her at first. She commuted from her home on Hood Canal to the set in Everett WA.
I loved that show & esp. her as a kid but it was on for far too long...i'm not sure why now but I think part of why i stopped watching was when she left. I was like 12 or 13 when i stopped watching tho.
I wish they would stop mentioning her drug habit of happened a long time ago we all have a past we aren’t proud of she is actually doing great and healthy because Jill gave an update on her on Instagram . Let this woman live and recognize her for the great she did that’s it that’s all !!
It's horrible that you stated the beginning of the end. Please stop the drama. She was beautiful and an awesome actress. So keep it positive, and stop trying to make it a negative news reel.
It’s funny, because I remember when they outed her about her drug addiction and I remember thinking that if it was anything like what happen with Drew Barrymore chances are that she was coerced into it, which I knew people who worked as stunt doubles in Arizona, for some major shows and movies that have been done now in fact, one of the kids who I went to high school with he got a chance to do stunt doubling work in Hollywood itself with one of the big stunt coordinators there, and he told me about what went on behind the scenes so when the news came out, I remember thinking that for her to end up on drugs, like this meant that she was probably pushed into it, and pressured into it, and that it was unfair, because I knew that they were others more famous than she and they were allowed to go to rehab and go back to the show and hear she was being kicked off, and I remember hearing about Aaron, spelling and his nastiness when it came to his stable of actors and that he was a little like a pimp and all of this I heard as a kid in high school from people who were working Hollywood adjacent. Some of those would eventually become big names and you know they would move I never hear from them again is at work and some never realize they how much they told me let’s put it that way, yeah but I always felt sorry for her. I always felt that the actress replaced her. They brought her on because well I can’t be 100% certain. I think she was briefly a replacement very short like maybe two or three episodes on Charlie’s Angels, another Aaron, spelling shell, and that he had a thing for blondes.

Didn't she play "Wendy/Windy" on Breaking Bad?
Lauren Tewes was the best for the part, but as in most entertainment, there are problems that arise, and she wasn't experienced enough to avoid those traps; that's a shame, but overcoming those traps the producers should have given her a chance for a return. Too bad for that, but she was the best in EVERY WAY for the part that was originally hers in my opinion!
Dr Adam Bricker was a beast with the ladies....lol.
Producers back then made some awful decisions that ruined their own shows. Usually by letting go of women who definitely helped the shows be the hits that they were. Just as Threes Company was never much good after Suzanne Somers was fired, so it was with the Love Boat and Lauren
Lauren does spot shows, and reunions of the love boat.. she is doing good
I grew up watching her on 'The love boat' she made the show and was a great actress! ❤️
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Lauren Tewes was the best one for the Love Boat
Forget the critics, it was a great show.
DEFINITELY Julie! ❤️
Thanks for watching!
Definitely Julie!
Lauren was so right she definitely didn't deserve to be fired because of her addiction especially for the fact that she wanted to get sober
Lauren Toots
She deserved to be fired because she was missing days of work and flubbing her lines on the show. She wasn't professional anymore. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Julie was and is always the diamond to the Love Boat. We love Julie (Laurne Tewes)!
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Julie without a doubt!
My God she was a gorgeous lady!
So true! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Loved Julie
Lauren's last name is pronounced "tweeze" and Ted's last name is pronounced "lan-je" not lang.
Julie McCoy for sure 👍
I was an extra on set with Tewes who was playing Lieutenant Girard's secretary on the remake of The Fugitive with Tim Daly playing the title role. I had to be told who she was because I didn't recognize her at first. She commuted from her home on Hood Canal to the set in Everett WA.
Thanks for sharing this!
What was it like to work with her? Was she nice?
Julie Mc Coy, I love her character on the Love Boat!
I loved that show & esp. her as a kid but it was on for far too long...i'm not sure why now but I think part of why i stopped watching was when she left. I was like 12 or 13 when i stopped watching tho.
I wish she had been my cruise director.
She was & still is charming and beautiful!
So true! We love Lauren.
Yep...Lauren is the perfect person for the love boat, but animosity by producers hurt her..
Lauren hurt herself by becoming addicted to drugs. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I believe that the Love Boat would not fly without Lauen's character, Julie McCoy.
Thanks for watching!
I wish they would stop mentioning her drug habit of happened a long time ago we all have a past we aren’t proud of she is actually doing great and healthy because Jill gave an update on her on Instagram . Let this woman live and recognize her for the great she did that’s it that’s all !!
Her last name is pronounced phonetically as Tweeze not Twos. Just FYI…😬
It's horrible that you stated the beginning of the end. Please stop the drama. She was beautiful and an awesome actress. So keep it positive, and stop trying to make it a negative news reel.
You don't think giving your career to drugs is negative?
I liked both but Julie McCoy was the better of the two.
Julie was much more appropriate for the Love Boat IMOP.
Wow what a shocker to see a post wall picture
I hate it when actors mess up and ruin shows by getting themselves fired.
Definitely Julie
