That when the desire to follow a vegetarian diet and a peaceful lifestyle comes from the heart. I feel the same connection and I send you my love and support.
thank you so much for being this way, and sharing ahimsa. this is almost the same talk i gave to my students. and sadly i had to bring this up to all the teachers at my yoga studio, because they really dont seem to value this, and so i don't seem to think they are in the heart of yoga. I even read conscious eating and shared text from that. thanks for the padmasana videos too. om and prem -dharmadeva
Dear kino, I've always been a believer of Karma. Ever since I started Ashtanga, I've been more conscious of my relationship with people, animals and the environment. I had a sudden feeling of sadness today when I had a realization of the amount of suffering that I've caused to other beings these past 24years of my life for my own physical benefit.
You are missing something important here, because more people don't know how milk extraction is done in this and most countries, and I will tell you how. In order to give milk, the cow has to have a baby calve, 24 to 72 hours later the calve is taken away from the mother and both cry desperately .If is a male, it doesn't have any value to the dairy industry and it will be kept for month separated from the mother and fed artificial milk and then killed and sold as veal. If is a female the same but they don't kill it because it will be abused when it grows. The mother is kept in a very small place where is injected with hormones , antibiotics and tranquilizers. So if you consume dairy products I ask:WHERE IS AHIMSA,ASTEYA,SAUCHA AND COMPASSION?????? People who eat dairy are stealing milk drom animals that are terribly abused. This recomendations where done in India where the cows are sacred and is not the case in the rest of the world. YOGI DIET SHOULD BE PLANT BASE ONLY
I actually have 4 cats and been thinking about their diet too. I recently became vegetarian (when I started to practice ashtanga yoga). From my point of view, it is totally fine for cats to eat fish only and one meal a day that is fully vegetarian.
Hey Kino! Can you give an example of a day in the life of your eating??? Oooh and please include where your practice fits in... Or please detail what you mean by "simple vegetarian diet" please. So many thanks for all you do!
Dog are omnivores, they can survive and thrive on a vegan diet as long as you get the right vitamins and minerals and ph balance for them. Cats are carnivores, but so far some have been able to be healthy on a vegan diet as long as the ph balance is right for them and they taurine etc, but not all cats can be healthy on it, my diabetic cat cannot, also cats prone to bladder crystals. I was vege for 10yrs and have been plant based vegan mostly raw for 2 yrs, cats are an ongoing dilemma for me.
In order to actually "embrace" ahimsa, should we keep in mind that it is actually impossible to avoid 100% violence? and what does violence consists of, essencially?
All sentient beings have a place here on earth and I am in no position to take their lives for my own physical benefit. I'm starting on a vegetarian diet and hope to stay with it. :)
Yes it's the same for me now I'm vegan, but then i thought of my dog that needs meat, though I'm not eating it, it almost feels as though it's still doing the same harm in a way, however changing a dogs diet to vegan when in the wild they would eat meat it's almost changing the way of mother nature, so I'm pulled between the two, therefore I wanted to ask your opinion on this specially if you have a pet yourself, in this case I'll research into it. Thankyou for your replies+personal view on this.
I agree that we should treat other animals as kindly as possible. That being said, the mere fact that we live in industrialized society means that our very daily existences are going to be extremely damaging and violent to the world. Ahimsa is thus a question of degree and balance: to what extent are you willing to damage the earth and harm other beings in order to live comfortably.
I'm interested in a vegetarian diet, but I have gluten intolerance and IBS, which makes finding recipes hard. Do you have any favorite recipes or resources for the yogi diet? What do you eat for meals?
I'm now vegan, but i'm wondering where would this lie if you have a meat eating pet, that eats meat to survive? although i have visited peta.org which says that cats and dogs actually can be vegan,(i'm not sure how true this may be) although i'm not actually sure if that would be healthy for my dog, because dogs are carnivores. what would your thoughts on this be and would this have an effect on the principle of Ahimsa? or is this something that can't be avoided?
I just started watching all of your videos......you inspired me to go on the mat and do Ashtanga Yoga.....after watching this video I wondered one more time why you are not vegan yet? I am aline with all what you said in the video and would therefore had expected you to be vegan....sorry I just don't get it......***
For dogs and cats they are by nature being born as tamasic animals ( that means they can't live longer without fish and meat) . So serve food according to one's nature ( SATVIC , RAJASIC AND TAMASIC) .According to Ayurveda these three gunas is present in universe (i.e these three gunas or qualities are present in universal form) . These three gunas or qualities are present in human beings also ( ONE OR OTHER QUALITIES ARE OVERPOWERING EACH OTHER) . For the sake of world peace one must consume vegetarian foods or foods obtain through non-violence (i.e. satvic foods) .
Does this effect yourself? because if I'm not mistaken, I noticed in one of your video's there was a cat, if it belongs to you, then what food do you feed your cat? because they isn't a lot of information on feeding dogs or cats a vegan diet,so I'm not 100% sure how to go about it, but peta.org did seem quite positive about this.
Do you eat fish and hypothetically speaking, could a yogi be non vegetarian? I don't eat much meat at all (about once a week). But I don't think that I can lay it off completely.
For example, try cooking the little kids pasta, with a raw tomato sauce. My cats really enjoy it. Be carefull to not add any garlic or onions as it is poisonous for cats, also the ready- made sauces are not the good choice because of the preservatives and spices that cats do not tolerate. Long spaghetti is also good. As with human beings, the diet has to be changed slowly and gradually, otherwise the cat will get digestive problems and diarrhea . Also, you can try giving raw vegetables as snacks
vegetarian, vegan diet will bring peace on earth. our mind becomes calm, as we eat veg. don't take curse of animals, they have equal freedom to live on earth peacefully, let they have natural death, should not murdered by selfish human race. for past thousands of years Indian philosophy considers nature as our relatives.

If you talk about Ahimsa the diet should be VEGAN, watch how the dairy industry extracts milk( HORROR) So please inform yourself we have ALL TOGETHER STOP THIS NONSENSE
Is it not hypercritical to claim no harm and be a vegetarian, since the dairy industry causes great suffering and harm to animals? Vegetarian is better, yes, but it's still full of torture. I find it difficult to trust anyone who claims to follow ethics and Ahimsa as a vegetarian
Keto or paleo is ideal. Vegetarian is questionable and vegan is a fallacy. It is foolish to think that the world would be a better place if the lion doesn't eat the lamb. Plants are alive as well. Eat properly to nourish the body and soul. Also we already have enough food to feed the world. The issue is distribution.

YOGI DIET SHOULD BE PLANT BASE ONLY
Kino you have such an inspirational practice, I was wondering what your diet was like! Thank you for posting this.
I actually have 4 cats and been thinking about their diet too. I recently became vegetarian (when I started to practice ashtanga yoga). From my point of view, it is totally fine for cats to eat fish only and one meal a day that is fully vegetarian.
Dear Kino, Pls specify the correct diet of a yogi and the timings to eat

well said, i do see your videos regularly, please keep posting, thanks, ramesh
You have to decide for yourself what's possible, but for me I am totally vegetarian so that means I don't eat fish either.
In order to actually "embrace" ahimsa, should we keep in mind that it is actually impossible to avoid 100% violence? and what does violence consists of, essencially?

I'm interested in a vegetarian diet, but I have gluten intolerance and IBS, which makes finding recipes hard. Do you have any favorite recipes or resources for the yogi diet? What do you eat for meals?

And remember when serving the meal it needs to cool down first. Cats dislike dishes that are too warm.

You mentioned Gabriel Cousens, are you a Raw Vegan, or at least interested in that lifestyle?
Some websites say that tomatoes are poisonous for cats... I didn't know! You should check with your vet first , I guess :)
