I'm a bit late (one year) but this watch is a GMT MASTER II killer. The bad thing is that people won't appreciate this timepiece enough because it says SEIKO on it. Godlike perfection.
This watch is fucking beautiful. Mercy on my soul, it's so hard to believe how beautiful so many of these Seiko watches are. I've JUST gotten into watches heavily in the past 6-8 months. I've spent almost all of that time learning about watch basics and learning about Seiko. I know there are other great brands out there but so far, everything about Seiko has been more than enough to keep my attention. Seiko (and some Grand Seikos, of course) are all goals for me. I'm creating more streams of income for myself and I absolutely have these watches as milestones. I always like watches growing up but never understood all of the different parts/complications/movements and so I didn't invest much energy into them other than just thinking watches are cool as fuck. Now that I know what I know, Seiko is everything I could want and more. Thanks for this video, though I'm jealous you got to hold it and I didn't.

what a gorgeous beast! I can't say i have ever seen a more stunning bezel. the way the colors change with thew light is astonishing. also falling under the astonishing category is that yeah, it fits you despite that size. Real winner. thanks for sharing it with us
You are right!! Unique design which looks brutal and big, but the same time sophisticated and very comfortable to wear. I bought them and just can't stop staring, that unique way to look brutal but not ugly, heavy but being quite light. And the dial color is unreal in life, shining blackish deep blue with 'no glass' effect. The first watches that make submariner look poor in my eyes when I put them together.
I stArted with Seiko 5 I think SPRD65k, black, very nice, gave it away to my nephew. Next I got SSK003, the most value for money mechanical GMT from Seiko. Then came SBDC127, the blue dial on this one is mesmerising. Two weeks ago came SPB381, green dial. This is next on my list, it will take me some years but I will get it. Thanks to Seiko for making me realise you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to get exquisite incredible quality time pieces.

mine just came in 😀 this is watchmaking art perfection blended with technology. you kinda have to prefer a diver style. I do. so it's easily my favorite watch, ever! movements can be more complicated but the timekeeping elegance of the spring drive is in a class of its own. I had to have one! the Rolex is a clunker compared to this in both looks and performance. I love its bling factor done beautifully, no precious stones or metals needed for the show. any differences with a GS don't bother me in the least. it's really only important that I know what's in there, and my pocketbook 🙂 a GMT is made for travel. I can imagine being discouraged to take it lest I become a target. because it says "Seiko" might actually help in this regard. 200m would have been nice, but this one will rarely even see swimming depths. I guess Seiko has to save something for the dedicated diver models. don't let the $5500 put you off. If you do some shopping/negotiating you can still get a near 30% discount. now **that's** a bargain! ☘
I've got to admit...this definitely looks very similar to the Seiko SSK003 model. That watch is cheaper and even has a jubilee style bracelet on it. I don't mind the oyster style bracelet for this watch in the video, but it would definitely make it look more upscale and even challenge the Rolex GMT Master II Batman but then completely blow it out of the water based on price. And the spring drive derived from Grand Seiko is just icing on the cake!
Titanium, traveler GMT, spring drive, quick micro adjust clasp, bidirectional rotating bezel. No GS has all these features in one single watch. I've been salivating over this watch for a few years, finally bought one in mid 2023. They are getting harder to find new, therefore I think the LX line is being discontinued.
There are two watches I would have bought if either one of them came in a 41 or 42mm size. My first choice would have been the Tag Heuer 02 Batman skeleton watch. This is the other one. Either would have been the PERFECT one-watch collection for every day and travel.

This watch uses a genuine GMT movement that enables the hour hand to rotate independently to GMT hand at the state once crown pulled out. Many homage watches use not GMT movement but just dual time movement that only GMT hand rotate alone at the state once crown pulled out.
The case and bracelet finishing rival watches 6 times their price. The light play on the bezel and dial is stunningly beautiful. This watch should be 2-3 times the $5,500 msrp. Their is so much value in this gorgeous watch.
With the ward you said it was a good watch just not for you. You can't be fairer than that. Did ward say anything about it. And that seiko is a stunner. But I do think spring drive should be exclusive to GS. Also we share the same grail.

Great watch. I think the 5R66 on this watch is still decorated but done differently than Grand Seiko's straight Tokyo stripes. I have an Ananta SPRING DRIVE Moonphase SNR023 with the katana case design. It's powered by a 5R67 and has nice katana slash stripes on the bridges. Large at 46mm and heavy at 214 grams with 4 links removed, but wears amazing even with the 50mm lug to lug because of the smooth caseback. Titan If you want to own both a Spring Drive and 36,000bph, I'd recommend you wait for future limited editions with the new thinner movements which are the 9RA5 and 9SA5, and I think you'll even appreciate the new 9SA5 36,000bph movement more than the older mundane version. And even so, the grail SBGA415 Winter you fancy is still amazing.

Oh, Tokyo stripes is the way Grand Seiko do their decoration. If you zoom in closely on Tokyo stripes, you'll notice that the strands are individual and separate like the grooves of a fingerprint or a vinyl record. So very different from you typical Swiss Geneva stripes. Here, look at the close-up movement shots in this WatchesBySJX article: watchesbysjx.com/2020/03/grand-seiko-spring-drive-blue-snowflake-sbga407-review.html Though, the new Grand Seiko 9SA5 caliber actually has standard Geneva stripes decoration on the bridges. Could be a sign that GS is moving on from or getting rid of Tokyo stripes decoration in the future. They're really nice to look at, but I suspect the reason why GS opted not to go for that finish on the new 9S caliber is because Tokyo stripes are extremely hard to photograph on the consumer's end, and I speak from experience since it's impossible for me to get a good shot of the movement with decent focus on my smartphone because the Tokyo stripes reflect so much light and the whole range of rainbow colors 🌈. And oh by the way, what I meant about the Katana stripes is the orientation and direction of the stripes on my SNR023 piece. They resemble the slashing motion of a Katana or a sword. The entire design theme of my watch revolves around the Katana so it's filled with design parallelism echoed throughout the watch. What I dislike about this watch unfortunately is that it appears to me anyhow that when you manually wind the watch the outer bezel ring seems to move very easily (see 7:36). It really ought to be a stiffer click to it. For the price that is a no-no given there are Seiko GS cheaper than this one I think. Maybe it's just me apologies if so.
Have you ever reviewed a Casio Oceanus? They also have zaratsu polishing. Would be great to get your opinion on the difference in finishing for the price!
I have no idea why it is not on the website it might be a Japanese domestic model. Cover jewelers can order one in for you but it might take months we do have one currently in stock at a big discount because one of the loom plots has speck of loom on the edge of the border
The new SLA055 057 are like smaller LX with half as thick bezels and 42mm. Check out the reviews on the channel and the 055 is still for sale. The 057 sold.

I love all brands and will give them merit when it's due bc I can appreciate them for what they are setting out to do, I'm not trying to pigeon hole the brand to my style. Trust me when I say that I'm not a fanboi of any sorts. Having said that, bro your CW review video was doomed as soon as you began recording it.... I think most people anticipate a watch review to have minimal bias and unfortunately yours was oozing with it. I know your watch style bro, you like watches that isn't so muted and jumps out at you, but the lack of that element in this watch prevented you from fully appreciating this line. It didn't help that CW decided to send you the most boring color, let alone one w/ a movement issue (BTW, I've got the same spinning on my MIDO and it was fucking goofy as hell the first time I wound it. What's even goofier is the fact that that watch runs +2 seconds a week, no bullshit). On to the current video. Lol, I know what the B stood for in B-roll when you were shooting this video. I was sooooooooo hyped for this watch upon release and was intending to buy it asap but then I saw it in person... The fucking thing always looks black! It is so god damn difficult to get the blue to shine through. Even with this awesome deal at Kavar, it's nearly impossible to drop that kind of cash on this watch b/c you never get to fully appreciate the visual charms that are highlighted in all the advertisement shots. Seiko did the same w/ the Samurai Manta watch as well. That dial was reflecting way too damn much. Had they made the bezel and dial blues more visually available on this GMT w/out needing to be fucking contortionist, they probably would've sold a shit ton of these.

My stowa is pretty muted and 63mas and those are 2 of my go too watches and hog most of my wrist time. but I do love vivid watches as well. so still up in the air for me. Its winter here in canada, wish I could have got some outside shots of it. Maybe the blue shows more in real world non-studio lighting/store lighting. In 6months I'll be able to do outdoor shots when it heats up. But this watch is probably sold by now. I had a handful of people ask for it already so one of them should pull trigger on this beauty. I think I prefer the SLA023 to it tho! and the reflecting so much is common with these ceramic and sapphire high end watches. I prefer muted aluminum if you seen my blue Willard review. I dont mind the shinny look but prefer if I can get the aluminum matte look.

This watch is the best one among the LX series. The blue is beautiful and matches with the red GMT hand. However, try to get the LE Batman version (with black to blue gradient dial and blue GMT hand) if possible.... that one totally blows this version out of the water.

Seiko makes some of the nicest watches. This Seiko Prospex LX SNR033 blows my mind it is so beautiful.

Seiko high ends are best value in watch world no doubt about that except the snobs won’t agree and I own the sla049 and I have it 90% on my wrist.

why isn’t this watch on seiko’s website? Where can I find it?
I have no idea why it is not on the website it might be a Japanese domestic model. Cover jewelers can order one in for you but it might take months we do have one currently in stock at a big discount because one of the loom plots has speck of loom on the edge of the border

The new SLA055 057 are like smaller LX with half as thick bezels and 42mm. Check out the reviews on the channel and the 055 is still for sale. The 057 sold.

I love all brands and will give them merit when it's due bc I can appreciate them for what they are setting out to do, I'm not trying to pigeon hole the brand to my style. Trust me when I say that I'm not a fanboi of any sorts. Having said that, bro your CW review video was doomed as soon as you began recording it....
I think most people anticipate a watch review to have minimal bias and unfortunately yours was oozing with it. I know your watch style bro, you like watches that isn't so muted and jumps out at you, but the lack of that element in this watch prevented you from fully appreciating this line. It didn't help that CW decided to send you the most boring color, let alone one w/ a movement issue (BTW, I've got the same spinning on my MIDO and it was fucking goofy as hell the first time I wound it. What's even goofier is the fact that that watch runs +2 seconds a week, no bullshit).
On to the current video. Lol, I know what the B stood for in B-roll when you were shooting this video. I was sooooooooo hyped for this watch upon release and was intending to buy it asap but then I saw it in person... The fucking thing always looks black! It is so god damn difficult to get the blue to shine through. Even with this awesome deal at Kavar, it's nearly impossible to drop that kind of cash on this watch b/c you never get to fully appreciate the visual charms that are highlighted in all the advertisement shots. Seiko did the same w/ the Samurai Manta watch as well. That dial was reflecting way too damn much. Had they made the bezel and dial blues more visually available on this GMT w/out needing to be fucking contortionist, they probably would've sold a shit ton of these.

My stowa is pretty muted and 63mas and those are 2 of my go too watches and hog most of my wrist time. but I do love vivid watches as well. so still up in the air for me. Its winter here in canada, wish I could have got some outside shots of it. Maybe the blue shows more in real world non-studio lighting/store lighting. In 6months I'll be able to do outdoor shots when it heats up. But this watch is probably sold by now. I had a handful of people ask for it already so one of them should pull trigger on this beauty. I think I prefer the SLA023 to it tho! and the reflecting so much is common with these ceramic and sapphire high end watches. I prefer muted aluminum if you seen my blue Willard review. I dont mind the shinny look but prefer if I can get the aluminum matte look.

I'm definitely digging the "63MAS" but it's stupid to pay MSRP for a non ultra limited edition Seiko. I'll wait until the hype dissipates (I'm sure it'll be a while lol) and then grab one for the traditional 30% off Seiko A.D.'s normally provide on an in stock model, at least the non scummy ones...

This watch is the best one among the LX series. The blue is beautiful and matches with the red GMT hand. However, try to get the LE Batman version (with black to blue gradient dial and blue GMT hand) if possible.... that one totally blows this version out of the water.
