Thanks for the video man cause I’m thinking of moving to Texas to own my own ranch. I’m 16 years old right now but it’s been my dream to have my own ranch one day!!
Thank you for the feedback Jorge. We would love to help you. Keep the dream alive!
Same. Quick tip, buy some QNT. It's what's going to allow me and my family to buy a ranch next year.
@@brandondickerson2785 you mean QNTA
@@318cadp5 no its QNT. The company name is quant.
Jorge, my advice is to marry a ranch instead of buying one. Find some rich rancher who has a fat, ugly daughter who’s a great cook. Ugly chicks are hard to find in Texas, but if you look hard enough…
YT read my mind, was looking for info about Ranch in Texas and here I am, thanks for taking the time and make the video.
Thank you! Just reach out to me when you are ready to get the process started!
I’m English, I live about 1 hours drive north of London in the English countryside. I have somewhat of an OBSESSION with Texas. I love the music, the countryside and the people always seem brilliant. I could never work the land despite coming from farming background due to a load of metal work in my spine holding me together. I would love to just visit before things get too bad as my body is breaking down at a really young age, but if I could manage to get across in the next 2 to 3 years it would be the top of my bucket list and a dream come true. If I win the lottery soon, I will be in touch…I know my only issue would be that I would never want to leave.
We helped some folks move from The Netherlands last year. Would love to see you guys make it here as well.
Hard working folks are always welcome here.
Very solid numbers, I’m close to Milam Co. Old cowboy once told me he’s not in the cow business, he’s in the grass business. When you figure out how to make a solid profit running cows on leased land, you’ll have enough cash to buy a ranch.
Great stuff Mike! I will have to borrow some of those sayings. Thank you for the feedback.
Great video! I am in my 30’s now, as a kid I grew up hunting... we had leases in the hill country and close to the border near Laredo... As I got older playing football in the fall in high school and college ate up most of deer season so I was never really able to hunt as much as I had wanted... fast forward all these years, working a decent paying but terribly unrewarding corporate job lol... and the last year or so all I can think about is buying my own land... I realize your video is more about ranching, but I’ve been looking into ways to basically use your property to help pay for its self like timber sales, grazing contracts, charging for weekend hunts and maybe 1 or 2 hunters that pay a flat rate annually and share in operating labor and cost etc... wanted to see if you had any tips, opinions or any input you could share about that... Like how much land you would recommend having to be able to no disturb hunting but still be able to use designated parts of the property to off set costs... Or location (I live in the Dallas area)... really anything u can think of... i would appreciate any feedback... Thank you and I subscribed to your video so I’m looking forward to seeing. More of them!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback and understand where you are coming from. I have a similar story and it's why I do what I do! Lots to unpack in your question.... Why don't you call text or email and I can set up a Zoom cal to discuss further. Thanks again!
Great video, thanks. Currently living in Norway, dreaming of one day moving to Texas and living on a quiet peaceful ranch. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! We'll be here when you are ready.
And they say farming is "easy"... I have so much more appreciation to my farmer friends here in VA.
If I ever here someone say it's easy, I'd invite them out for a long "appreciation" weekend.
I appreciate the video. It made me find out that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. My question is what are the ways that someone who is starting out at ground zero can pay off over $2,000,000? And what type of careers not only help that cost, but also allow you to work with livestock and animals on your farm? Thank you and God bless.
Great question! I have some ideas, but I think I want to understand more about your goals. If you email me, we can set up a Zoom call and discuss.
I would say start cutting or clearing out property nearby if you’re good on a shredder or be a ranch hand till you pay off
You could get paid to kill or trap hogs cause I’ve gotten paid $25 a hog n I’d rack close to $6k a day
N with shredding or clearing out property like cutting trees or digging stuff out you’d get paid close to $100 an acre or you get paid $50 a tree
I just drove through multiple north texas countries..interesting industry
Wow! I was just in that part of Texas yesterday. Really Beautiful
I’m a teenager and want to have a ranch when I’m older, how am I supposed to get 3 million dollars to just to start
Ryan, that's a great question, thank you! If I were in your shoes, I would start by getting a lease. The land cost is most significant and you can find people willing to allow you to use their land to help them with the tax benefits.
And learn how to build your credit, so when it comes time to build a new business, you'll be on the right track. Don't be like 99% of those knuckleheads at A&M maxing out credit cards on liabilities.
@@davidt1621 agreed!

You should watch the complement video to this.... "5 reasons why it's a good idea to buy". It's the sequel that completes the story.
Thank you for watching and commenting! Glad you liked it.
do you or anyone you know have information like this regarding smaller ranches, more so for just a couple horses and maybe a few other random animals? great video! especially for a channel that’s just starting up.
Thanks for the feedback Taylor. I don't know of anyone who has a video like that. Good suggestion though. I will see if I can't put one together for that topic.
Great video man!
Thank you Mario! We really appreciate the feedback.
Mate `awesome vid, Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Lou! I really appreciate the feedback. When are you moving?
Thanks for making this video, I'm searching for how people file their llc for their farm.
Honorio! Thank you for the question. For an LLC, it's the same for any business. You need a CPA / Lawyer to help drafting up the agreement and getting it filed.
Thanks.
You're succinct,
precise, and awesome.
Thanks DE Graham! I always appreciate the feedback.
This is very good content. Thanks:)
Thank you Siwen! We appreciate you watching. Let us know if you have any suggestions for other videos.
Super informative video thanks! I would love to see a video more in-depth on a residential land for a ranch like home. So not too large but just a nice enough space to have a few farm animal pets and a dream home as well. What would the best financial situation for that be? Thank you!
Monique, thank you for the feedback! That's a great suggestion. To answer your question; it depends. The smaller the land and the larger the home, it becomes more like a traditional home with a really big yard. Give us a call or send us a text and I am sure we can you the information you need.
Thanks! Trying to support my sons. They want to become FT CATTLE RANCHERS and Sports Management.
Sounds great!
Great video, really good information for someone like me that one day wants to own a ranch and live on some acreage
Jesse, would love to help you as soon as your ready. Thank you so much for the feedback.
to cut that cost down a lot buy the truck tracker and atv and the like outside of Texas , Texans jack up the price just because
Matthew, thank you for the comment! That might work, the problem is you still have to transport it to where you need it. I would love to see the details.
hey, nice info. Is it compulsory to have 100+acres? cant be 5 acres?.. Where can I find ranch lands for sale?
Great question! No it is not compulsory; that was a hypothetical scenario I used as an example. Ranches come in all shapes, sizes and locations depending on what you want to accomplish with the place. However, most counties require a certain minimum size for ag except tax status; generally 10 acres. Just give us a call if you want to do a Zoom call and go over specific areas and land uses. Thanks for the question.
@@glitter_fart Thanks for the feedback! What part of Texas are you from?
@@glitter_fart AMA = Amarillo I assume. Are you looking into buying Boone Picken's place up there? ; )
@@glitter_fart When you do, be sure and give us a call!
You need to talk more toward the small.guy. that only wants a small place. 60 to 100 acres. Most people now a days can't aford that much.
Thank you for the comment Randy! We appreciate the suggestion for a new video!
I’m 21 now livin in north Fort Worth. I’ve been around the ranching community for a while but was never able to get involved directly for a long period of time. I’ve done hand jobs for bi-weekly gigs here and there but I want to get the ball rollin. If you know any ranches in either the north or south DFW area looking for hands let me know. I’m hard working and worked as a mechanic for rental one who distributes construction/ agriculture equipment as well as basic knowledge of ranch work. Thank brother God bless!
I'll keep my eyes and ears open. The $$$$ for land is always the biggest hurdle.
Looking in around west of Rocksprings, tx
Lots of cheap land out there. What are your thoughts on raising cattle in that area?
It's cheap for a reason. Not much grass, not much water so you need a lot of land to raise any cattle.
Pony express haha nice 😂
Thanks for the feedback! With no live audience you never no how jokes go. Glad you liked it.
@@TexasLandandRanchLiving Yes sir and that ain’t no lie brother!!! Awesome channel

When I saw that Berkey I knew you were a man I could trust.
Thanks Sharon! I have a confession to make; it's my wife's. We have done it yet, but she keeps telling me we can filter pond water if we need to. Thanks for watching.
@@TexasLandandRanchLiving Used it for our recent boil water advisory when water returned after the freeze. If you are all electric and lost power to boil, I see this as a must.
To make a small fortune ranching start with a large fortune.
I know right! However, there are ways of making it work. Like anything worth doing well, it takes time and patience.
hey bud love the video and the break down would be great if you can have a website i can browse which doesnt require any inputs! Easier to share :)
Thanks Scuba Diver! I appreciate the feedback. That's a good idea. What would you like to see on the website? My videos? Something extra?
@@TexasLandandRanchLiving
1. Actually for your videos you can send a link to your channel here on youtube so you don't take up too much bandwidth on your own site. You don't need to replicate it.
2. A site where I don't need to input my details to see the content, that is a straight bounce off. I went to your site, saw I needed to give my details to view it and just bounced.
3. People are not always looking to buy now but hey we can always dream and say yea that's something I want and we know who to look for when we are ready to buy
4. You can get the inputs you need via a subscribed newsletter. Win win, you get the customer details to market your business and if done well people know your business and can approach you when we are in the market.
5. Listing of properties and pictures (this could be property you have already sold) So it helps the American dream for a potential buyer in the future :)
6. As for your videos, financial breakdowns like in this video are great and set you apart from the competition
Thanks for video How much would it cost if you can buy land in Texas that has all that you need on the land already for cattle and farming operation
Long answer short; it depends. The size, location and condition of the land are the three biggest factors.
Hey bro from what I hear it's not word raising cattle now days
Thanks for the comment Joe! I know it's a tough game to get into right now, but as long as people are eating beef, there will be a need for cattlemen. What would you want to do on your land?
live in Houston and looking to buy some land (20-30) acres mostly just as an investment and starting a hobby farm(fishing, shooting, hunting, etc.) that could grow into something more down the road. Not looking to raise any animals to start, but was thinking that renting out fields or growing and baling hay to get feet wet. Can you talk about starting a simple hay farm, yields, best grasses etc? Thanks in advance.
Tim, I would love to help. Give me a call or shoot me a text and I will set us up a Zoom call to discuss further.
I already live in Texas, but I want to move from the suburbs to a goat ranch with my family
That's great! I am helping a family move to Texas and find their perfect Goat ranch. Give us a call and we'll be happy to help.
Also a cow gose for more than a couple hundred dollars
I'm on the micro-scale. Interested in getting 2 horses, or goats. I live Downtown Houston and I'm looking at a house with a small 3-acre lot with a 4 horse barn in Alvin. Do you have any thoughts for this city gal? This is 100% unfamiliar territory (cayote, bats, mice, vet bills, hay, horseshoes)? Interested in getting 2 horses.
Jasmine, thanks for the feedback. I am in Houston as well. Let's set up a Zoom call or meeting to discuss. I'm excited for you.
$62. a year per cow for feed and hay cost?
Well, it really comes down to how the carrying capacity of the place and how much you have to supplement. In this scenario, you were estimating the land would be able to supply most of what they needed. Obviously feed and hay and everything else has gone up significantly since we published.
Hope do you afford all of that when the jobs are so far
Great question Teresa! It’s tough. A lot of people have to lease land to get a heard the size they want. Are looking to get into the business?
What are some animals that do well in most of Texas? Exotic ones too, camels, yaks, emus)
Wow great question! Obviously you see people successfully raising cattle and horses across most of the state. Sheep and or goats do well in most areas also. As far as exotics, it depends. Back when I was growing up, there was a big push for ostrich farms because of the demand for ostrich eggs and ostrich skin boots. However, when it comes to exotics, you should probably be more focused on what exotic and where.
Very few people raise emus in Texas anymore, that market fell out years ago, hair sheep, cattle and boer goats is where it's at. You can run more sheep/goats on a property than cattle, 10 sheep=1 cow
How could I find some land to lease in south texas for livestock? I just moved down here from east Texas and have noticed prices for land in this area are over double the cost.
Unfortunately, land is crazy right now. I wish I had a perfect crystal ball to say whether this is a blip or a new normal. Just so you know, I am seeing this appreciation in all Texas Land markets.
There are places to lease, I assure you. Over all of my clients are buying and concerned they won't find anyone to lease.
You can call or text me and I can help you with the specifics, or you can go to the AG extension agent and offer him a cup of coffee for his time. Also, there will be a USDA rep in the area.

Great question! Yes I can as soon as I get some help.... People are moving to Texas in droves. If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out to me directly.
I would like to know if you know any ranchers that would allow hog hunting on their property thank you
Dale: Yes, as long as you are responsible and not causing any damage while doing it. Most people want as much help as they can get with removal of feral hogs.
How do i get 3 milllion dollars? thats a lot
Samuel, thank you for the comment. I know; it's tough! Start out small, lease until land comes available and work your way up.

this made me happy my parents own land hahaha
Felix, glad we could brighten your day!
Where do they own?
So almost $3 million to buy in and only $3,000 in gains? Is there a massive tax refund every year so you can eat?
If you are trying to buy your way in, it is very expensive. There is just no way around that fact. Most people don't buy a Ranch hoping to make a great return in cashflow. It has some great tax benefits, long term appreciation and an incredible lifestyle though.
That looks like a Big Berkey water filter on the left 👀

It’s a terrible business. The return on investment is laughable. The reason people want to do it is lifestyle. They want to wear a cowboy hat and drive a pickup and feed their cows and breathe the country air. As long as you know that going in and you’re not delusional enough to think you’re going to make any money on the operations, you’ll be fine. Get yourself 10-40 acres as a home place and try to find some land close by to lease. Forget cows, just run feeders/stockers and maybe goats or hair sheep depending on where you’re at. If you get really good at it, you’ll make a little spending money and maybe convince the IRS that you’re a real business. If you’re decent at it, you won’t lose much more than you would in lots of other hobbies. Whatever you do, don’t quit your day job. Your dreams of becoming the next John Dutton are crazy. You can be rancher, you just can make your living being a rancher.
Thanks for the feedback Todd! Very insightful. I would love your insight to the other video I did on Why land is a good investment. It's sort of the counter to this video. It covers a lot of the points you made here.
man, this guy tries to make it seem like you have to be a millionaire to start a ranch. pssshhh (but he was born in it all) sure he didn't make that money himself from scratch.
