I understand this is a good workaround however, it’s quite painful to go through this process for each photo that I want to upload to Instagram. Rather I believe Instagram should try to become a little flexible to allow photos of different sizes.
If you're doing this for every photo I would recommend framing differently and cropping. This method is when there isn't enough breathing space to crop.

No, people will just shoot for the 4x5 frame then crop.

@@baalvachan You eventually just get used to knowing it. But I think some cameras have options like this. But for me it's just intuition.

The problem I have is, when I upload a 5X4 or an image of a different dimension, Instagram considers all imgaes to be 1X1. How can I fix this?

I tried this but for some reason I can't expand the image to only one side at a time - It's only possible to expand the whole rectangle (all 4 sides at once) and then exactly the problem with the funny looking background you were talking about happens :/
I tried this and it completely changed the quality of the picture :( it was a nice quick fix if you really want it to fit but quality never the same.

Hey Jonny! Loved this video, the problem for me is that my image is more vertical than horizontal. So no matter what I do, the top part is getting cut off 😓

If u don’t have a background like the photo u are showing in the tutorial. Let’s say a selfie, and the more u expand the most wonky it looks....if u go lil by lil with the expand tool does that make a difference versus just expanding how much u need to expand to get it to fit in that 4x5 ratio?
Going little by little by little stops it from getting confused. I have been meaning to make the photoshop version of this for a while. It's a better method when this one doesn't work.

How can you expand each edge independently? Like I can expand all four edges at the same time only not one side

Would you suggest the same aspect ratio (5x4) for landscape photos as well? Trying to figure out the best size to fill the screen as much as possible. I find my landscape photos look tiny on the Instagram feed!
I would, if you shot them landscape and want to post 4x5 I have another video to turn them into seamless panos, it's recent so you can find it on my uploads.

Hey so basically, I have a bunch of edits with the healing tool and, there’s one area that I want to undo that I used the healing tool with but, if I hit back to undo it will overwrite and erase all the healing I did with the parts of the photo I want to KEEP, and I don’t want to erase all of that. Is there a way to selectively undo/erase the healing tool edit on only one part of the photo? Hopefully, that made sense. If I hit undo it will erase all the parts of the healing that I want to keep. So I just want to undo one part of the photo....plz help🙏🏻🙏🏻

You said the video would be about how to get a photo into instagram without having to crop it; assuming its larger than 4x5, but then you proceded by expanding a 3x2 photo... What am I missing? Is a 3x2 not smaller I'm than a 4x5? So why would you expand it to get it on instagram? I'm a bit confused. Lol

So how to shrink your image, not expand to fit format?
That is what I’m trying to figure out as well
it doesnt work when the subject is near or at the edges of the image.
Are there no cameras that comes with 4:5 aspect ratio standard? If no? Why not? This seems like a freakin no brainer to me???!

As I said you're better off just shooting for the crop. But in the case that you forget and need to fix, this is how you can do it.
