@@citiestoash I’ve been a photographer for 30+ years. I’ve been a video producer for 20+ years. My ability to create using either format isn’t the topic. The topic of this PM video is photos. So either Instagram needs to stop punishing photographers (not likely) or PM probably shouldn’t promote the use of a platform that doesn’t like photographers. In either case, I’m not the topic of the conversation.
Got rid of my Instagram a while back because I didn’t like what it turned into. Basically a more negative-tiktok type platform. Hopefully it makes a comeback!
Maybe give my platform a chance? It’s called lens (I can't post a link) and RN is available only in Europe and you need an activation code to register. If someone is interested I can provide the activation code ;) I am not a bot, I’ve built the app because of creators like Peter, Matti and Chris 🙂 It’s not fully out yet, but I thought due to your comment that it would be good to start spreading some awareness 😅

I don't think it will ever make the comeback you're hoping for, but the solution is to stop caring about the algorithm like Peter is doing, and just post the work that we enjoy making. That's the only solution, I feel.
Started doing this recently after I saw you and some other people doing it. I didn’t realize Lightroom had that feature. I think it looks better on instagram and also just overall adds some style to your photos in general.
It is a conteoversial point: if you use that feature your photos are downsides in resolution/dimension (right to the right one for Instagram); in another post Pete said that he just export his photos at their maximum resolution and then just post on IG (let the IG algorithm downsize the photos)🤔… I should ask pete😅
@@mirkolanuxIkr like does it not compress his image? And don’t the white borders make the image more compressed and lose resolution? I would also like to know
I personally prefer your previous presentation of works - without borders. But just like you said, it is your choice and preference on how to present those photos in your way. Your video is still great!!
I just want to say thank you, as meaningless as that fidget spinner was, just to take that slight brake, the silence, to just watch a fidget spinner come to a stop really gave me some sort of clarity, gave me time to slow down my mind and actually relax, so thank you! also it is so nice to hear that one of the best and biggest photographers / inspirations, has stepped back from caring about likes and views and engagement, and just back to the art of it all and that is the mindset I am trying to follow, Yes it is hard seeing as I work with a lot of brands that want views for their product but I am happy to post when I want and not care about the 1 / 10 videos.
I've been in and out of a boarder phase. Back then I didn't like the look and color of my photos enough to appreciate boarders, but maybe it's time to get back to it.
I’ve never liked the borders, but it definitely breaks it up on the grid to be able to have varying tones easier without something feeling out of place
2:56 I had to pause to leave a comment ... That was satisfying 😂 I was honestly thinking "Will it ever stop spinning?" and when it was about to stop I was like "Will it start spinning the other direction ..." It was enjoyable and of course I stayed with you dureing that spin session because you're awesome and I love your content AND I like you as a person too 😆 you're cool. Anyway! back to the video
Why on earth was I sucked in to watching that fidget spinner to the end?!?!?!??!?! I feel like i was just brain-washed... (Thanks squarespace and peter)
Now i want a video on whats on your phone (from wallpaper to what software you daily use for productivity and editing and photography)❤️🥺 please do that. I miss that photography tutorial and tricks for mobile photography ❤️
My current layout is Black & White with borders but ive included the color version of each photo so people can just swipe to see that ... Keeps my page clean and organized I use the border feature in Lightroom
Does anyone have advice for band/live music photography? I picked up a camera a couple months back because PM videos about the photography process seemed fascinating and I wanted a new hobby. I love music so I have reached out to local bands and my first 2 shoots are in the next 2 weeks and I’m nervous 😂😂 but I’m excited to learn and see how it goes!!
Hey Pete, what do you think about instagram’s copyright laws? I’ve been thinking about getting Instagram for a long time and that’s the only thing holding me back.
Ive been following you on your channel I do love photography Guess What I believe we are Cousin on my Mom side her family goes to Isles of Sky and on the Scottish side more on this later, keep up the good work , have fun
On the iPhone app if you have dark mode turned on it puts a black grid on your profile page between the photos, ruins the look your going for completely.. looks 100 times better without the lines like shown in your video

To post for yourself instead of the algoritm is the greatest revelation I had in years. And now that AI is taking off, we might get a return to form where photography is an art form to find fulfilment for yourself and not an extra source of income. AI will probably beat me everytime, but if I give up the chase likes of in social media, it will free my mind and I will realize it’s not about the results but the journey.
Nice!
IG needs an overhaul ASAP!
Borders and frames are a must. It just shows a completed piece.❤ always thinking like an artist❤❤❤
Borders help with general aesthetic giving a special look and importance to the picture and also let few seconds more to admire what is inside it.
Instagram Algorithm: "That's cool... but we're still not going to tell anyone about it because it's not a video or a video story."

EXACTLYYY, for me since i started 🫰🏽🎬
Only Peter can get away with sitting there for 30 seconds while we watch a fidget spinner and nothing else on RUclips 😂
The best channel for photography, love your videos
i literarly was about to skip squarespace part but for some reason your fidget spiner move kept me 😂, your creativity always refresh and amazes me
same here. I typically skip the promotion part of the video, (sorry PM), but I stayed because of the fidget spinner. lol
Anybody know where I can get that spinner?
So sick of Instagram trying to be a worse TikTok. This is great Pete!
Love how you lean into your body of work over engagement. That’s what will set you apart.
IG is not about photo anymore.
Lord Jesus bless you! Instagram is anti life!
Aaaannnnddd this is gonna be a trend now... glad I hopped on it early thought because it is really nice
Pete if that spinner went for ten minutes we wouldn't click off. Your passion is inspiring!!!
Your amazing photos never show up on my feed! I’ve had to turn post notifications on
You go Pete! The algorithm doesn't matter. Just express yourself the way you want. I love it!
What's the "preview" app you are referring to? At 4 mins
Also, curious

Years ago I stopped using white borders because I liked how Pete’s insta looked with full images haha. I’d totally forgotten!
Asked this exact question on the first two bordered posts. Instead of a reply, we got a whole video on it. Hells yeah. Much love Pete.

I straight up thought these were photos from a contest at first, and was about to be so upset I missed another photo contest. It wasn't so I'm good
Tjis is very cool, I used to do it… but if would be great if the borders were transparent, like become black in dark mode
White border on photos + Instagram in Dark Mode (the default if your phone is in dark mode) = chaotic and *cheap* looking feed
Apparently +80% use dark mode, so a white border will look bad for most people. Maybe a black border would look cool?
What app do you use for planning your feed?
On the iPhone app if you have dark mode turned on it puts a black grid on your profile page between the photos, ruins the look your going for completely.. looks 100 times better without the lines like shown in your video
