Yep, agreed, a genuinely beautiful bit of design. I remember making dozens of paper aeroplanes when I was young, desperately trying to get an Interceptor that looked right and that flew properly. I never succeeded, but that failure drove me to immerse myself in trying to understand the physics of flight. I got into kites, then balsa and tissue aeromodelling, then bigger radio controlled planes, then full-sized gliding. I did solo flights and cross-country tasks, and finally tried General Aviation and managed to get my PPL in a Cessna 172. I ran out of money then, and my licence lapsed several years ago because I couldn't afford to put in enough hours to keep it current, but I've retained my passion for flying. With grateful thanks to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson for the inspiration.🙂
When I was listening to the call signs, all I could think of was the 3 gladiators biplanes of Malta: hope, charity and faith. But there was actually 6 of them.
I finally got to see;Captain Scarlet after all these year’s with my family, one Christmas. The whole family had enjoyed it!Especially, the special effect’s!I was so glad 🙂 to watch this iconic serie’s!
Same here, I always remember building and painting it and hanging it from my bedroom ceiling. My all time favourite fictional aircraft. The CGI interceptors are awful imo
The Angel Interceptors are launched from the Cloudbase Flight Deck using a Catapult system. One Angel is on constant standby and the other two board their craft using a switchback system.
CGI has nothing to do with Gerry or Sylvia this was computer cartoonist trying to stick their idea of what the aircraft should look like Am sure Gerry and Silvia would be turning in their graves and would have disagreed with there design of a concept that reality are beginning to copy in todays fighters ( have a look at Lockheed Martin new X-59 fighter concept video ....)
Nice bit of editing on this Tech Talk, showcasing six Angels in flight. Reminds me of what NCS did. Initially showing three Angels before adding another two. Although in that series, all the Angels were usually launch at the same time, rather than leave three at Cloudbase in case of emergencies. Although this Tech Talk doesn't mention the alternate escape option where the whole front section ejects from the main body, which was mentioned in a FAB Fact a lil while back 🤔🤔🤔
There is clear footage of Captain Scarlet in an Angel Interceptor and 6 Angels in flight. However, I can not find the episode in which 6 Angels occurred.
Do a cross universe episode where the old Angel interceptor fight side by side withe the new version.. Anyway where does one buy a model of the new Angel interceptor??. 😎
But what I've always wanted to know is, what are those ridiculously un-aerodynamic 'lumps' at the wing roots, at 3,000mph they must be quite a nuisance.
At hypersonic speeds wings are more for maneuvering that lift. Odds are those pods are micro-thruster units to stabilize flight. They might even be there for (A theoretical) form of in air vaccu-cavitation system that act as auxiliary control modules.... yeah I know.... but you won't believe the math behind that one.
At 0:51, the canopy frame appears to be crumpled or something ------ metal fatigue -- oh geez!!! Better get it checked out. At 3:27, nice thunderbirds type music.
Would you guys consider doing Tech Talk episodes for the Thunderbirds craft from TAG, or at least craft like Thunderbird Shadow that were exclusive to the animated series?
This cartoon was /is almost 50 years old(1967-68) Northrop wasn't around then (Founded 1994) never mind the F5 its first flight was in 2006 - 39 years after Angel aircraft were first shown on TV. Hell the Harrier is still a better aircraft except in stealth and speed (funny its first flight was the same year (as the angel craft) - 1967 - and still was in production until 2003!)..... but airframes wasn't designed for that purpose that the F35s are designed for (there was a new replacement for the Harrier on the design board but shelved cause the UK government withdrew funding that would have still beat the F35 in performance and cost development and production costs of each aircraft ) The concept of angel aircraft are still today becoming reality as technology catches' up with a brilliant minds of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson who though up the futuristic world of 2067 which isn't that far away and many other aspects of this short-lived series is still being developed today as a new invention(s) that the concepts (abet in model/cartoon form ) was shown back in the 60s ........
oops sorry wrong aircraft (2006 that was the F35) the F5 first flew 1964 but still didn't looked nothing like an angel aircraft .didn't have V/STOL couldn't land/ take off on short runways so really the F5 wasn't anything like them(and the F35s are still poor copies and still behind design ) F5 are now chase aircraft for NASA or training machines in many air forces world
Just to clear the confusion the Northrop Corporation started in 1939 till 1994 where they merged with Grumman corp to form Northrop Grumman Corporation
SPECTRUM job advert: Angel Interceptor pilot. Candidates must have several years of flying combat experience, an interesting and ideally unique accent, and experience modelling retro futuristic fashion wear. Duties include neutralising threat of bizarre abstract aliens and must be prepared to wear a transparent red hat at a jaunty angle when off duty. Looking good in figure hugging white flightsuit, having nice hair, and a flawless combat record a must. In the interests of unequal opportunities only female candidates should apply. Send applications to Col. White, Skybase. The Sky. Earth.
I was scared of the sidewinder when I was a kid. Likely coz it reminded me of a bug with those legs and as a little girl I didn't like creepy crawlies!
FJB, times speed of light cubed, yeah I can see old China Joe piloting one of these aircraft, and saying in the post-flight briefing yeah I was in my game because I ate a bowl of dogshit for breakfast....
Also, technically, Cloudbase inspired the SHIELD Helicarrier. Also, Cloudbase is far superior to the Helicarrier. As Cloudbase remains permanently in the sky. Where as Helicarrier have limited durations.

Been saying this since I was a kid and I ain't changed my opinion. The most beautiful aircraft design ever.

Love this series. Brings back memories of enjoying all these shows.
It was the best of the Century 21 shows and easily the darkest. Would have loved a second season.
Unfortunately I was in 2000,
but there was some thunderbird repeats. I didn't get to watch the whole series but what I saw I loved
I feel like you could do a great spin-off series about the Angels.
When I was listening to the call signs, all I could think of was the
3 gladiators biplanes of Malta: hope, charity and faith.
But there was actually 6 of them.
Didn't they get one in the comics?
I do like the Angels in Captain Scarlet and are one of my favourite vehicles.
Good evening from 5 miles from the Century 21 studios 🤓👍🏻
I've just gone back in time to when i was 8 or 9 years old, thank you!
This series is excellent
Big Well Done U to everyone involved
Cheers 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Another great briefing! And it's nice to see the edits made to let us see things we never did before.
I had the Airfix model of this.

Me too. Airfix didn’t do much detail on the cockpit though.
Me too!
Morning all hope you had a good week.
All the angels are beautiful.
Rhapsody was always my favourite.
Mine too. Very beautiful representation of that pilot. The most attractive member of the team.
i had the airfix model. and Destiny was and is my perfect woman
Another brilliant job by Jaime & the team... Well done.....
beautiful planes and pilots
The Angel Interceptors are launched from the Cloudbase Flight Deck using a Catapult system. One Angel is on constant standby and the other two board their craft using a switchback system.
Who's says equality is a modern thing!!
I definitely prefer the Classic Angels and their aircraft to the CGI ones.
I like how they get more of a role in the Theydon novels.
@@callumjones7386 What are you talking about? That just came across as gibberish.
There should be a troupe of bad girl angels...with names like (here goes):
Schadenfreude; Envy; Deception; Phallatia; and Janet.
Can you imagine if there was an accident with that last one.
"Dammit Janet!"
As they are mostly music related the code names should be Dirge, Requiem, Fugue, Nocturne and let’s keep your Janet.
And "Over" "Under"and "Roger"
@@KingofPotatoPeople I like. What would the Dark Angels call their planes though? An evil Interceptor would be an Ambusher or an Interloper?
What about "Karen"?
Great analysis. Could you do a breakdown of the New Captain Scarlet series? Skybase, Angels, Swift, the Albatross etc???

Some of this BGM is Fabulous Daddio!

S.I.G, Spectrum Is Green!
3000 Knots, Mr Tracey....
That is. 3000 knots =
3452.338 miles per hour
Mach 4.5
Or 3000 mph. 2606.929 knots
3.91 speed of sound.
I’ve always wondered how the tall front landing ski manages to retract in flight? Where does it go?
Do a cross universe episode where the old Angel interceptor fight side by side withe the new version.. Anyway where does one buy a model of the new Angel interceptor??. 😎
But what I've always wanted to know is, what are those ridiculously un-aerodynamic 'lumps' at the wing roots, at 3,000mph they must be quite a nuisance.
🤔 apparently they are 'wing braces' not sure what they are 'bracing' against.
@@andrewholdaway813
I think they’re landing gear. See how forward landing strut (which is collapsed during flight) also has one of those “lumps”?
@@pcarrierorange
I found a 'cutaway' drawing that labels them as wing braces but what they're attached to us um, 'vague' to say the least.
The Viper jet design at the beginning looks interesting. A wide thin body gives lift and a forward-leaning tail.
At hypersonic speeds wings are more for maneuvering that lift. Odds are those pods are micro-thruster units to stabilize flight. They might even be there for (A theoretical) form of in air vaccu-cavitation system that act as auxiliary control modules.... yeah I know.... but you won't believe the math behind that one.
wonderful :)

Much as I'd like to (was rewatching TAG earlier) it isn't strictly an Anderson series :(
This fighter looks very much like the F5 Northtrop. The F5 is very versatile and was used by more than 30 countries.

how fast does cloud base go? might not even need a catapult
Typically doesn't move while launching fighters.
I'm wondering... Are the ejection seats made by Martin-Baker because, if so, the Angels could all join that special club
You'd assume that they'd be using the best :)
Electromagnetic cannons VTOL capability really well done
Good to see UFO on our screens in UK. Horror Channel Saturday afternoons
COOL
Can you remember Zero-X?

always sat in the cockpit for their shift mmm ok

EM rail drive system for a launcher. Figures they would get it first.

If they've got VTOL why not just land back on airbase with that ...just asking🤷
OK only
The Sidewinder
The gray and houseman construction vehicle
Crablogger
Supercar
Zero X
Fireflash

Now it makes sense...Gropey Joe is a Mysteron agent, he’s actively acting to advance their war of nerves. Let’s go Brandon!
is this real?…looks real
If it's VTOL it doesn't need the catapult
Catapults are faster and more fuel efficient.
Is there a reason why all the Angels had to be female?
I believe the reasoning at the time was that they had faster reflexes than the men.
I thought it was that women can take higher G forces without blacking out.
The same reason that the Captains were all men??
its so that Dads would be as into it as their sons.
It's got no wheels, how does it taxi? And what's with that useless vertical stabiliser?
The wheels are inside the skids, they deploy for conventional landing strips.
Cloudbase totally ripped off the SHIELD Helicarrier!
Similar concepts developed at similar times. Cloudbase was created independantly from SHIELDs influence.
Also, technically, Cloudbase inspired the SHIELD Helicarrier. Also, Cloudbase is far superior to the Helicarrier. As Cloudbase remains permanently in the sky. Where as Helicarrier have limited durations.
