One of the greatest sci-fi vehicles of all-time, definitely the greatest sci-fi sub ever! Loved the re-docking animation, something I always wanted to see in the show. Thanks for this exceptional Tech Talk!!
I grew up watching that series. Great fun. Kids nowadays laugh about the visual effects but I still find it interesting. The use of models and puppets when CGI was not available were great accomplishments and required lots of ingenuity.
Technology now is higher, you are going up against the likes of the expanse. But they were well ahead of the time and the most important part of any entertainment series is the scripts. These were second to none.

@@paulgwilliam6323 Well, sure, buts that's called "no budget". Even the original Battlestar Galactical had decent effects with models, and the CGI today for ships is great with the nuances in lighting and such. Early CGI missed that kind of stuff, to be sure.
Nice bit of animation explaining how Sky 1 redocks with Skydiver. Would love to see TB2 given this kind of animation to showcase how Pod 4 is reclaimed.
The memorable moment of Skydiver where Sky 1 launches and great to hear about Skydiver 5 to be the new Skydiver 3 after the original one was sadly destroyed.
Biggest disappointment of my childhood was that Dinky Toys never put out a SkyDiver. It would've looked fine in that Emerald Green they insisted on painting everything else!
Over a decade ago, some Yank made a R/C flying model version of the Sky Divers _Fighter._ Was awesome to see how he overcame obstacles, and got her flying. To say the least of the memories of the UFO series it brought back.
Fantastic work this... every second of it! I saw "UFO" for the first time when it was released here in the States back in 1972 or 3 and I was just a kid. All these years later I still look up at the stars and wonder if 3 of those bright little dots aren't Interceptors chasing a U-fo !
My theory about Sky 1 re-docking with Diver was that the fighter has a flotation ring on the bottom of the jet and inflates it just before landing on the water. It then waits for Diver to surface behind it and re-docks with the fighter. This way the jet doesn't have to sink under the surface to re-dock.
They are really amazing. Using full modeling is a great achievement. I admire the efforts of creators of all of them. Making such display without today's usage of computers. Really admirable! More over, the plots of the series, makes me and most of my generation ones stick to the TV series like UFO, SPACE 1999, and all the series using marionettes, They were a real and cool entertaining.
Would've liked some information on crew accommodations since all we've seen have been the private room aft of the bridge. I also feel that, given the need demonstrated by the UFOs for water in which to hide throughout extended stays, the importance of SHADO submersibles couldn't be downplayed.
brilliant video i have watched ufo over the years but i a pretty sure some of this is new footage if so well done to everyone involved with the best tech talk video of both series so far..

As did the SHADO sports cars and several models and stage set items. UFO was reuse of Doppelganger properties, just like MGM reused Forbidden Planet and 2001 props for years.
Wish that the die-cast UFO Models made as collectors models were affordable these days.....the Mobiles were good, but Skydiver........oh boy.!! (Would have had Fireball XL-5 as well!). On eBay there’s a Terrahawks Battlehawk for sale, mint in box, just £18,999 , 😮😫
The amusing thing is that when he says that this or that could happen, like the replacement Sky unit, you know that it happened once in one episode, but not at any other time. Also if the UFO avoided the Moonbase defenses average about 85% of the time, certainly more often than not.

The only "downside" of this report's "in-universe" would be that the "start recording" command would not be a part of the recording itself because the recording hadn't started yet. In the same vein, IMHO, the "database - end recording" command would be "auto-deleted" at the end of the report to keep the report "clear".
Ah, but you see the audio is actually being recorded by the security microphones in Straker's briefing room, rather than his auto-computer's data-bank, so they pick up everything before and after the presentation. A subtle reminder to everyone watching that the WSS sees and hears all :)
I'd like to see, once, the starboard side of a Sykdiver. On the port side, the name painted of the hull divides into Sky, for the Skyfighter, and Diver, for the remaining part. How is it on the other side?
As it was understood a Sky fighter were more maneuverable in the air than UFOs, (budget and time restraints aside) it would have been screamingly exciting for the UFOs to get into a dog fight of at least firing back. Seeing a Sky fighter duck and weave evading UFO energy ray fire as well on occasion taking a partial hit (maybe off a wing) while returning fire with its machine cannons...would have been NIIIIICE!
Skydiver is 6 or 7 times bigger than Thunderbird 4 but not as well built for deep sea submergence. It could certainly dive deep but 30,000 feet was it's limit. Thunderbird 4 could get down to 36,000 feet. There's two others that could reach that depth. Seaview and Seaquest. Skydiver is able to get down to 30,000 feet.
