Literally exactly what i was looking for. I want to learn by trial and error but theres way too many specifics, i have no choice but to have it shown to me
I was just about to find and watch some tutorial about how to do that, but I found this video in my recomendations. Thanks a lot buddy, this helped me pretty well!
Ha ha 😂 The main thing here is, we are adding a plane and connecting its color to the video. So for each frame of the animation, the plane will get its color (texture) from each corresponding frame of the video. As a result, when we play it fast, it will show the video.
if I need begin play the video texture into a specific animation frame, like simulate a imaginaty play button? Your video is awesome! Thanks, solve some doubts and issues here too.
You can use the Start Frame field to delay the start of the video texture playback. You can even add a driver to this field in order to connect it to another object's property (like a play button), so you can control the timing of the video playback dynamically via another event. However, Blender is an animation software, it's not a game engine, so you cannot take user's input in terms of tap or touch etc.
Unwrapping after applying the Scale Factors 3:10 only haves the surface recorded rather than filling it completely. Tried with multiple vids and different aspect rations. Not working.
I need to look at your blend file to help you resolve this. Please send your blend file and the video file that you are using as the texture to 5minblender@gmail.com so that I can verify.
@@joyxfaith I did not understand the issue originally and hence requested to share the blend file. He did not contact me. If you can share the blend file (5minblender@gmail.com) I will be able to understand this issue and then I can suggest a solution as well.
If I have a video texture that I want to start playing on a certain frame, how do you do that? like lets say there's 2 video textures that I want to start playing at frame 100 and frame 300 separately.
Sorry for the late response. Use the offset field in the image texture node where you load the video file. To start it playing from frame# 100, you need to enter -100 (minus hundred) in the offset field. Similarly for the second video texture, use minus 300.
awesome thanks! but i wanted to ask, is it possible to export this animation as a 3D file to after affects and still see the video into the model? if so, how could I do that and what archive should I use?
You can use animated textures or video textures in After Effects. I am not sure about export because Blender does not export video textures as far as I know. Your best bet would be to do it in After Effects directly.
Hi! i need some help pls, im trying to add a video to play inside a phone product. But still wont work. Here's what I've tried: enabling/disabling cyclic enabling/disabling auto refresh tried to fit the video via UV editor tried to match the video via mapping tried changing texture coordinator to uv and generated changing the frame from 1 to 250 All of these are from the youtube tutorials. Hope you can help me. Thanks a lot! 🥹
Hi, since you have already tried a few things and they did not work, the best way to fix this is to share the blend file with us if possible (and also don't forget to pack the video file which you want to show in your model). If we get the blend file it will be easier for us to identify the issues. You can send it to 5minblender@gmail.com and also write a line about the issues since we get lot of emails everyday and we may not be able to connect your email to this comment. Thanks!
Yes, definitely possible. Say you have an animation running from frame# 1 to 250 and you want to pause it at frame# 100. You need to insert a keyframe at 100. Now move the rest of the keyframes (after this keyframe) by say 150. So your total length now becomes 250+150 i.e. 400. Now copy the keyframe at frame# 100 and paste it at frame# 250. So between frame# 100 and 250 there is no movement because these two keyframes are exactly equal. You need to do it for all the objects that are moving. Only exception is your camera. You can move your camera while the objects are at a freeze. Now render this, and you will get an output where the animation stops at frame# 100 and resumes at 250. (If the objects still move between these two frames, open the graph editor and change the interpolation mode to linear for the duration between these two keyframes). For the sound effect, you need to handle it separately based on what you want to play when the animation is paused.
How did you export it? Can you show the process of making the render and exporting it? I mean setting the cube on the surface, adding the background, etc...
Do you mean the short demo that we demonstrated at the start of the tutorial? You want to know the environment setup, lighting, camera and render for the demo project as a whole, is it? Or did I understand it wrong? 🤔🤔

Are you rendering the video directly with sound, or are you adding the sound separately by first rendering an image sequence from your animation? Direct rendering should not have a sync problem if it plays okay in the viewport preview. If you are adding the sound separately, there may be a problem with sync due to a mismatch in the frame rates. To fix it, change the speed of the audio slightly up or down until it matches perfectly. You can calculate it by looking at the length of the audio and the video - there will be a small difference that is causing the sync issues.
@@5MinutesBlender I render in png then add sound, here 24 frames per second and in the editor (Camtasia), 30 fps. that's why it was lagging. Now it's okay.
@@COOLACADEMYFORPHYSICSANDMATH Oh! FPS 24 and 30 will create a big difference. I thought it was same and still there are issues. Actually if you observe minutely, there may still be a sync problem with same FPS, however, it will be in the order of fraction of a second. It happens with 24 FPS because technically some software or TV screens treat 24 as 23.976 (there may be some history behind this). To fix that minute difference, adjust the audio speed to say 98% or 99% etc.
Add a texture coordinate node and a mapping node to the shader material. Texture would connect to mapping, and mapping to Image Texture node. Now change the rotation angles in the mapping node to position the texture as you need, use 45 degrees.
Yes, the surface can be curved as well, it will work. But you need to create the uv mapping correctly. A curved surface is made of several pieces, it cannot be a single face. You can first add the video texture to a flat single face. Then subdivide it & curve it. The UV mapping & the texture will then stay intact.

This is actually a limitation, Blender does not pack movie or video files. You can read about this here 👉 docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/files/blend/packed_data.html Zipping the video file along with your blend file is the only way to solve it, but it alone won't help much. The receiver must save that blend file on his/her machine and map the video file manually in the video texture node. Then it will work.
after adding the texture, mine is not showing the video but a blank pink screen. this just happening for videos as my images are working absolutely fine. can you please help?
Hi, a pink color means a missing file across Blender. Please check the location and the format of the file. Is it mp4? Is it corrupted? Also check the normal of the surface that you're working with (although a bad normal would still not create pink color, pink means Blender is not able to read the source file for some reason). Try to change the video and use some other video file. Please let me know if still nothing works.
Please check the aspect ratio of your video and the dimensions of the plane you are using. If they are same and still the image is not correct, you may need to rotate the image by 90 degrees to fit with the orientation of your plane. This can be done using a simple UV editing, or using a mapping node in the shader editor.
great vid! i do have a question tho, my imported video is 37 sec long (23.98 fps), when i import it to blender it speeds up to about 18 sec in the viewport i tried matching the viewport fps to my original vid but im still getting the same issue im wondering how i can slow down my video to match the original?
Thank you for watching 💖Since you said this, I just tested with a few short clips and they seem to work well, not speeding up. If I can get the clip which you are using, I can help resolving this issue. You can either share the link or send the video to 5minblender@gmail.com for us to investigate.
As far as I know, there is no "animated texture". The texture animation is handled by the animation software itself (my knowledge on other 3d animation software apart from Blender is limited, so I might be wrong there).
Hi, the speed depends on the number of frames (fps). A video may be created in say 24 fps. But your Blender composition may use 30 fps. So when we import it into Blender, it may speed up since we are now showing 30 frames every second instead of 24. Match the fps for both and the speed will remain as the original.
@@5MinutesBlender Thank you so much for your response. The speed of my blender is 24 fps. but I don't know how I find out the speed of my video. when I put inside the blender, it became slower not faster.
If it slows down after the import, probably your video has 30 fps frame rate while your Blender composition is 24 fps. You can easily check the frame rate of any video with MediaInfo mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo It is a free lightweight software, I myself use it a lot. Apart from fps, it displays many other important data about any video. Now coming to the solution part, open Blender VSE, import your 30 fps video and render it as a 24 fps video, then use that in your Blender composition. You can do that in any other video editor as well.
@5MinutesBlender Thank you so much for your reply, you are the only channel I found to reply this soon and correctly. I love your efforts. I wish you good luck.
Why not just import the video as an image plane and resize to taste and done? takes a few seconds at best. Stick it on a background box for a frame if needed.
Yes, we can do that very well. It is the same thing, Blender adds the Image Texture node automatically with proper settings when we import a video file as a plane, it saves time. However, I think for a tutorial it is more helpful if we show to the audience what happens under the hood. Moreover, if someone wants to use some other object (maybe a cube, not a plane) to display the video texture, he needs to follow this route. In fact, with a cube object, we can add 6 different video files on its 6 faces and they all can run in parallel. That would be fun 😃 But for simple uses, we can just Import it as a plane, you are very correct 👍
@@5MinutesBlender its not working ,sir. when i select auto refresh then its start ,but not selecting cyclic. its only working in auto refresh .sir pls make a video for that pls pls.🙏🙏
Great tutorial, thanks. I have (maybe a very silly) question: suppose you have 2 or more cameras in a blender scene, would it be possible to cast 1 camera view to a “screen” instead of the Tom & Jerry clip and have another camera displaying the scene from another angle? I hope its understandable what I am trying to ask!
We can do this in a different way. Not sure if there is a way to cast the camera output to another object data. But we can first render the scene through the first camera and create a video file. Then apply this video file as a texture on the target "screen" and capture it with the second camera. Now render it again. You get what you wanted, I suppose.
Use an emission shader for the material of the screen and increase the emission strength. It also depends on your background or the surrounding light. The video will look better if the ambience is relatively darker.
Slower in what respect? Does it run slower in the viewport? Is the rendered output slow? What is the FPS rate (frames per second) of your original video clip and what is the FPS you have selected while rendering in Blender? These things are important to know as they can influence the speed. Basically, a video is nothing but a sequence of pictures that are shown rapidly to create the illusion of a "video" footage. Your original video is also made of such individual pictures. Blender maps one such picture for each frame. The speed of the output video can be slower if your original video has say 30 fps and Blender is using 24 fps.
The steps remain the same but you can first convert the fps of your video. You can use any video editing software but Blender's VSE is also one useful & free option. Slow down the fps of your original video and then use that in the image texture of your composition for animated texture.
Why it doesnt work to me, only pink color appears. Although i try this one before and it work so well, but know i can't, is it because i am using a new version, (newer than what i used before) please help me :
No, I don't think the version would have any effect. The pink color across Blender means some file is missing, some texture or picture is missing. So double-check your files. Sometimes it keeps an old reference to your textures or pictures. If you move those files into another location the link gets broken. If nothing works, start with a fresh new Blender project and do it again from the scratch. I hope the problem will be resolved.
Hello, i've followed all the steps. However, i have multiple face panels making up my screen, though they're all unwrapped correctly when i look at them in the UV Editing tab. That's the only difference between the set up in this video and my file. But no matter what i try, i cannot get the video file to scale correctly. All that happens when i change the scale is that vertical lines change size. But there isn't even close to a semblance of the image from my video file coming through. Can anyone help me please? UPDATE: I have no clue what i did, but i somehow got it to work.
Glad to know that the issue was resolved. It might be possible that you were still in UV editing, and that was not reflecting on some other panel... not sure though what happened. Anyway, you got it work! Cheers 👍👍
The video texture won't be exported. At least I don't know an easy way to export the video texture from Blender unless you do a frame by frame export which is tedious and not very helpful.
It usually happens when Blender hits the RAM limit. Do you have many complex objects in the scene? Or are you trying to load a heavy video clip with a large size?
Please check if it looks black in Cycles as well. If it is black only in Eevee and not in Cycles, then there might be some issues in your Eevee settings or might be with your hardware (some old machines are facing issues with the new version of Eevee but Cycles is working perfectly fine). Please let me know once you check this in Cycles.
Thanks for this video- you rock! In trying to export this object as a GLB with the video texture I was not able to preserve the video - only the first frame. In doing some research I am across this article saying gltf does not support video textures. Do you know another format other than .blend that supports video textures for use in another application? blenderartists.org/t/exporting-a-plane-with-video-texture-as-glb-is-not-working/1392037
As far as I know, there is no easy way to export an object along with video texture. Even if there is one, I don't really know about it. If you get to know something, please let me know as well bro.
Please review each step thoroughly because the process works very well, it is one of the basic functions in Blender. If you are using the latest version of Blender, and you're in Eevee, you may face difficulties as the new version of Eevee sometimes needs a fix. You can verify the result in Cycles. If you fail to identify the issue altogether, you can even send your blend file as it is to 5minblender@gmail.com so that we can check what went wrong there.
Sorry for the late reply, I was stuck with some personal work for a week. You mean in the viewport or in the actual rendered output? To get the sound in the output, you need to select an audio codec in the output properties (by default it is set to None which means no audio). For all practical purposes, it is better to add the sound externally to your animation using any video editor. But you need to know about the concept of frame rates because it can lead to syncing issues. If unsure about that, use the process as I explained above.

As far as I know, there is no "animated texture". The texture animation is handled by the animation software itself (my knowledge on other 3d animation software apart from Blender is limited, so I might be wrong there).
Can you please tell me why, when I import my video inside blender, its speed changes? and how can we fix it?
Thx
How can i keep an animation running in a loop ,the video or any animation is stopped after a certain time .pls reply me .
You need to select the Cyclic option in the video texture option, it will then run in a loop.
@@5MinutesBlender its not working ,sir. when i select auto refresh then its start ,but not selecting cyclic. its only working in auto refresh .sir pls make a video for that pls pls.🙏🙏
@@nusratjahjan Can you please send your blend file to us (5minblender@gmail.com) so that I can check?
This helped a lot! Is there a way to export the .glb file with the animated texture? I tried, but the video remains still. Thank you!
Thank you 💝 Unfortunately, I also don't know any way to export an object along with the video texture material.
please share have you any solution....
When i render the video. In render video brightness is very low can you please help ?
Use an emission shader for the material of the screen and increase the emission strength. It also depends on your background or the surrounding light. The video will look better if the ambience is relatively darker.
@@5MinutesBlender thanks brother for you response
Why the projected video is slower for me than the actual one? Can u pls help me with it?
Slower in what respect? Does it run slower in the viewport? Is the rendered output slow? What is the FPS rate (frames per second) of your original video clip and what is the FPS you have selected while rendering in Blender? These things are important to know as they can influence the speed. Basically, a video is nothing but a sequence of pictures that are shown rapidly to create the illusion of a "video" footage. Your original video is also made of such individual pictures. Blender maps one such picture for each frame. The speed of the output video can be slower if your original video has say 30 fps and Blender is using 24 fps.
The texture refresh rate is slow or the speaker plays the sound faster than the video, even though the same MP4 file is being used.
How can I fix it?
I Fixed it!
The reason was that the frames of the video did not match.
Sorry for the late response, and I'm really glad that you have resolved the issues yourself! Great 👍👍
how to do if the video texture is so fast?
The steps remain the same but you can first convert the fps of your video. You can use any video editing software but Blender's VSE is also one useful & free option. Slow down the fps of your original video and then use that in the image texture of your composition for animated texture.
Can this be exported as GLB?
No, I don't think we can export an animation with video textured material.
Cheers 👍👍
Can i get the video?
I downloaded it from the internet, or RUclips I guess. You can search for the same, there are plenty of videos on Tom & Jerry there.
is it possible to export this as a gltf file?
The video texture won't be exported. At least I don't know an easy way to export the video texture from Blender unless you do a frame by frame export which is tedious and not very helpful.
@@5MinutesBlender ah, okay thank you for your response!
Can export this to ue5
Why export, you can use a video texture directly in Unreal I think.
my blender crashes whenever i do this :(
It usually happens when Blender hits the RAM limit. Do you have many complex objects in the scene? Or are you trying to load a heavy video clip with a large size?
It turns into black though
It does not work. all you will get is a black screen
"In this tutorial, we have discussed"
You didn't discuss anything. We're listening to an AI voice...
thanks but the speaker doesn't work at all, any tips for me to fix it?
Sorry for the late reply, I was stuck with some personal work for a week. You mean in the viewport or in the actual rendered output? To get the sound in the output, you need to select an audio codec in the output properties (by default it is set to None which means no audio). For all practical purposes, it is better to add the sound externally to your animation using any video editor. But you need to know about the concept of frame rates because it can lead to syncing issues. If unsure about that, use the process as I explained above.
