For some reason this song pops into my head most of my life. But no one seems to remember it. I guess it was obscure, but I remember liking it when it showed on MTV. Ahhh the good ol' days.
I saw him a bunch of times and I was always star struck. One time he stood next to me and my friend on the dance floor at POWER-TOOLS or was it DirtBox and he was looking us up and down. I wish I didn't ignore him, but I was a kid and I was star struck. Used to dance to this song at Odyssey in the 80s Later, I ended up knowing his BF.
Thank you for this video! It takes me back to the days in ‘82-‘83 when we’d go dancing at the 18+ clubs on Hollywood Blvd and have a 2 am breakfast at the Denny’s on Sunset afterward before heading home!
That's you, huh? They must have filmed this in Los Angeles somewhere, in maybe 1982 or 83? I'm curious since you were practically the only link we have to this amazing video and period of time (and Cee)
I found this LP at a thrift store for $1.50, and I was very impressed. Somehow Mr. Farrow slipped through the cracks with me in the ‘80s.So sad he’s no longer with us.
Congrats with the find! It’s a somewhat hard to find album. This single, his only ever charting song, only peaked as high as No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.
Just found the album for $10 at Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh. Never heard of him back in the day, and never saw the record before, but he has a classic New Romantic sound as good as all the other ones (Japan, Spandau Ballet, Soft Cell, Visage, and so on). Some of the album tracks are rather dark and sexy.
I believe Bitter End club circa 87' at Sunset Blvd occupying the building before Home Depot was there. 1990 he had another club name The Apartment that was very popular this was at the same location on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood I think a girl named April LaRue was his biz partner for both. Apartment was so incredible and everyone there was trying to out do everyone else in a fabulous way. Jean Paul Gaultier and Terry Mugler all the way and make it your self if you did not have it!
@@lancelanza9110 Your right, The apartment was very hip. They had an in Exposure magazine (the magazine is no longer around) It had a picture of Cee, April and some bald guy... The ad said "Your host at the apartment"
I remember seeing Christian at dance clubs he was tall and so good looking you could see him across the floor since he was taller.. He wore beautiful dress jackets and black crew neck shirts.
I forgot that his real name was Christian. He was really tall and always looked so stylish. When we became friends ( I dabbled in music too) I was always in awe of his coolness lol. And super sweet.
Anyone from Seattle that remembers this song playing at Skoochies and The Monastery? So many memories! I used to have a cassette tape of his entire album. Unfortunately when I sold my parents home after they passed, I realized too late that all my 45rpms and tapes where in the attic. Oh well, I still have all my albums!!
swtv1754 I’m 49 now and was a teen back then. I’ve been listening to C89 since the early-‘80’s. Back when they played hip-hop from the New York City crews. That station has by far been one of the best and most unique we’ve had in the city during my lifetime. Primarily because they’re not usually playing the same artists that everyone else is. And if they are, they likely played them before anyone else did. Including Cee Farrow.
@@Fakename70 I do remember the hip hop era of C89. I still have all my 12 inch singles with the Sugar Hill label. There was KYAC (later K-Fox) on am, but they played very little of what KNHC played until Nasty Nes started to DJ at nights on K-Fox. C89 was ahead of it's time back then!
The Odyssey (1) was the place to be in the 80's. I remember going there and not getting carded. I thought I was cool, but found out I wasn't and it was an all ages club. Still like the track and miss the dancing days.-G
OMG the Odyssey. I used to LOVE that place. They didn't card because the didn't serve booze just juice drinks. I danced with a guy for the first time to "Ring my Bell" there lol. I met Cee somewhere (Rage maybe) and we became friends. Saw him live at The Palace. He was a great performer. You couldn't take your eyes off him. He was such sweet man and always so kind to me. Love this song. Loved him and happy to see it on here.
Peaked at No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 91 on the Billboard R&B Charts in 1983. Great New Wave song, should’ve been a MUCH bigger hit. Released on Anaheim’s Rocshire Records, the two owners got arrested in 1985 for fraud of over 12 MILLION DOLLARS from an airport company.
I lived the 80s, clubbing etc..., and I never heard this before now (March 2020). Good elements, the music part, the beat, great rhythm and horns. Cee sadly died in the early 90s.
The 80's club seen was sick! I absolutely have fabulous memories of that time. I believe Cee was former lead for DD...long live as many dubbed the 80's "the decade of change!"
I haven't heard this in recent years, my sister was singing this song one day after it had just went off mtv and all I could was laugh till I was crying, great memories of those days! Miss those days.
Never heard it on MTV. How did I miss it? They used to play it at some of the nightclubs in Seattle back in the day! I even bought a cassette tape of the album it came from. He had another song called "So Romantic" that was played at the clubs too.
Man he still looks cool as heck today as he did 36, 37 years ago. The no socks look? Sorry Sonny Crockett, you’re just a pretender to the game. Cee Farrow is the real deal.
So the dude pulled a sword out of his cane, then some Spanish lady dancer came and danced her yellow makeup at people and the young blonde lady walked out because the gay German guy had his 2 gay dancers and they danced her out of the restaurant? How was this my favorite video ?
KROQ 106.7 and MV3 from Pasadena, California. What a time to live in that generation. It was too fun to party in those days.
I was on MV3, dancing with my high school buddy Rick Brown. We were in the show that had the English Beat performing live. Amazing experience!!!
@@rebeccabronder1802 I was there when Berlin was on the show. I tried to go when Malcolm McLaren was there but we couldn't get in or weren't picked.
They played this every night at the Odyssey in Hollywood - until they burned it down. So many memories.

Cee Farrow hosted some really amazing underground warehouse parties in LA back in the day. Best times of my life.
Totally agree. Still can't believe that time of clubs existed.
