    "Well I thought it would be hard but turns out it was not and I was just over thinking it" is officially my crafting catch phrase.

      lmao its literally just too real, so many projects are over complicated by thinking too much

      @@moth.faerie YES! And it applies to all types of crafting. I started out with crochet and cross stitch and have branched out into sewing, jewlry making, and a bit of drawing. Trully overthinking plagues me in all! Their is a certian magic in simply DOING THE DARN THING that makes me wish we had not done away with the culture of apprenticeship so throuroughly. Though my confused stumblings and eventual mastery of a craft do make a great deal of entertainment for my family.

    • @moth.faerie

      I just started crocheting!! It's going ok haha but gotta start somewhere. Yeah I waffle back and forth on decisions so much, the great thing about doing youtube videos is that it really gives me a hard deadline for projects! But I could literally spend months trying to pick the perfect pattern for something only to have to alter it anyways 🙃

    • @susanresha8107
      @susanresha8107 3 года назад +5

      @@moth.faerie The nice thing about crochet is that a lot of the 3d know how for sewing comes in handy for all the stuffed animals and garments. Might I recomend looking up the African Flower Motif? It might be a bit much for a beginer but it is a good motif to practice working in the round, changing colors, and patern reading. There are also lots of videoes showing how to work it and lots of diffrent ways to combine the simple motif into anything from a elephant to a sea horse.

    • @susanresha8107

      @@moth.faerie Also never be afraid to undo work that does not satisfy you! In middle school I started a crochet club and I learned that beginers never want to undo anything even if they are unhappy with it. Crochet is a skill built on a few basic stitches and it pays to get the basics down even if you have to keep redoing the same stitches over and over. Once you have the tention of the string and the basic stitches down you are ready to the rabit hole of fluffy hobbity doilies and so much more!

    Rachel Maksy's devil may care attitude towards sewing is 100% what convinced me I could see my own clothes, since September I've made myself a sweater, a skirt, a shirt and two dresses! Each one I made up the pattern for because I don't like trying to Frankenstein other people's patterns together, I've made some mistakes but, tbh I still love em 😅

    I think you look very cute in all your outfits! You don't have to have a certain look to enjoy the and look good in it. Nevertheless, the issue you mentioned about not always fitting the look one likes is very true for me. I am a 61 year old lover of all-things cottagecore. I work at trying to dress cottagecore but a little more toned down so I don't look ridiculous for my age. It's always a question of how much I can get away with in terms of things like Ruffles or Gathers. I am wondering how you attach your different bibs. I think that is a fantastic idea.

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад +2

    Love these and I totally have this thought all the time. In a sewing related question though, how you get your iron to press correctly? I have the same iron and I completely and utterly hate it. You seem to be using it just fine though, any tips on how to get that beast to behave? It keeps burning in the shape of the steam holes and I have no idea why or what to do about it. Just a random question, totally chill if you don't have an answer.

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад

      I haven’t had many problems with it aside from it leaking, but generally if I’m pressing on a synthetic I make sure to keep the iron moving and never leave it in one place, and if I do need to leave it one place like a stubborn seam or for embossing I use a silk organza press cloth. I hope that helps!

    i love this so much Ive watched it at least 5 times this week and I will defintely be trying it out soon! Just one question before I do that, how do you attach the waistband to the skirt? thank you for the great vids

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  3 года назад

      aw thank you so much! for the waistband, cut a strip of fabric that is your waist measurement + 2" (1/2" for seam allowance each end, and 1" for overlapping the closure) in length, and the width of your waistband x2 + 1" (so it'll be folded over and have 1/2" seam allowance on each side) so for example, my wait is 26" and I wanted a 1.5" width, so my strip was 28" x 4". Once your skirt is gathered, stitch the short ends of the waistband closed and turn them out, then stitch on of the long sides to the skirt with right sides together. press that seam open, and turn under the other long side by half an inch. Your skirt should be sandwiched inside the waistband, and just top stitch on the side that hasn't been stitched down yet. Hope that helps! if you need more clarification please let me know!

    How did you do your hems on the skirts? They look so neat!!

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  3 года назад

      I stitched a hem tape to the raw edge to cover it, (it's called hug snug if you want to buy your own!) then pressed the hem up and cross stitched with my top stitches going through the main fabric and the bottom stitches going through the hem tape. Hope that makes sense! Please feel to ask questions if that was confusing!

    Girl, you don't need curly red hair to wear your clothes.
    But...with your dark hair and pale complexion, you could easily pass for Snow White if you wanted to 🙂
