    Hey Minji! Revisiting this video as it's one of the first Redhtreaded-related corset making videos I watched. As you may have heard, early in 2023 Redthreaded overhauled their patterns so that they include a range of sizes, as well as updating their instructions. One of the things I was hoping to see were videos comparing the old patterns with the new ones, though I haven't seen any yet. If it's not too much to ask, would you be willing to compare the single-sized pattern with the newer one? I'm not sure what the total educational value is for that, but as someone who is learning all of these things on their own, I've been curious to see what value there is in the difference beyond just the inclusion of multiple sizes.

  • @nix_cosplay
    @nix_cosplay 3 года назад +52

    I hate the one size thing! No one's a standard size anyway. That's why I didn't end up buying from them, though I was considering it since they're so popular. You had a tough job of not only making the pattern fit you, but also match the reference!
    I think I had a flower fairy book by the same artist when I was younger! They're so pretty.
    And congrats on the house!!!!

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  3 года назад +14

      yeah I feel like the fact that literally every other company offers multiple sizes should have been a clue? it unfortunately just feels like a shitty money grab and I didn't really love the base pattern anyways? but it did end up serving my purpose! at some point i'd love to go through and review all the popular corset patterns and make the search easier since there's so many to sort through!
      Thank you!! ❤ I'm so excited to move haha

    • @DFarbklecks
      @DFarbklecks 3 года назад +5

      I've actually heard from some people that they will exchange sizes if you bought the wrong one and reach out to them. But yeah I agree it would be a lot easier if it simply was more than one size per purchase

      @@DFarbklecks most people need to grade patterns anyway. Redthreaded has the worst historical patterns ive ever tried anyway.

    Love the shaping of this!
    If you want to shorten the busk some metal snips from a hardware store will cut the busk. It can then be ground with a dremel and i got a small sampler of Rust-Oleum paint and dip the cut end of it that, let it dry and do 2 or 3 coats.

    • @k80_
      @k80_ Год назад +1

      Especially with something that has so many pieces and “moving parts”. I’m looking into making this corset and I do trust my ability to modify patterns to fit me better. But I haven’t really done this on something so complex, I think the most complicated thing I’ve done is that butterick b4669 stays-ish piece.
      Fitting to the waist is probably the best bet. Adjusting the waistline and boning channels would be a lot harder than adjusting/ replacing the gores.

  • @saralist1200
    @saralist1200 2 года назад +1

    The buckling seems to be an endemic problem with this pattern. If you look at the finished models on her website the corset buckles on all 3 of the women modeling it. Its not as bad on the one but its bad enough to look painful on 2 of them. The finished corsets are so bad it looks like there is plastic boning in them even though it says steel. It must be tinfoil thin. I don't know if the original used stiffened fabric or if there wss more boning than what there appears to be in the pattern but I'm excited to watch your next video to see how you overcame this problem! Love watching your troubleshooting!

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад +1

      ah glad it wasn't just me then! I still got a little bit of buckling in the end but mostly fixed it! It was mostly affected by where I placed the waist, once I got that right most of my issues went away 😊 I used synthetic whalebone, so it is plastic boning, but it's also much higher quality than the typical plastic boning!

    It was super interesting and helpful to see you go through the fitting process and the problem solving! I don't know if I saw it correctly, but in the shots where you are comparing the first mockup with the book it seems to me that the seam across the back of the extant corset is curved? (at 12:20) And the seam from the pattern is straight, so maybe that accounts for some of the difference in fit?

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад

      thank you! do you mean the vertical or horizontal seam?

    • @raevynwoods9403
      @raevynwoods9403 2 года назад

      @@moth.faerie @minjalinjee I meant the vertical seam, between the back and side-back panel. The seam seems to curve towards the centre back a bit before going down and forward towards the hip, where it almost hits the sideseam.

    So cool to see you making the alterations! I'm in the process of figuring out how to do this but make the waist bigger for some 1740-1770's stays (also from Red Threaded) so I'm wondering if I can kind of do what you did but add in paper instead of taking it out? It's gonna take some trial and error lol.
