I had one at my mother's house a week ago that was just humming lightly and wasn't functioning. Using my brief experience as a service tech I gave the pump a couple light whacks with a hammer and viola she started right up and is working great. Just FYI for anyone with similar problem. Sometimes they get a little air lock or the motor gets a weak spot similar to a car starter and/or some rust and sediment causes a little lock up too. You can also take it apart like this video shows and spin the cartridge by hand to free it up! As long as you are capable of draining the water from the boiler you can do this!! Just don't forget you have to bleed the air after refilling I'm certain there are RUclips videos showing this too. Good luck
I'm already changing out the third cartridge in my system every 2 to 3 months this keeps happening. Any idea what might be causing this PSE&g is pretending like everything is okay and it's normal for this to keep happening. It's a two-family house with two identical systems and the second floor has not broken one time. Any idea? Thank you very much
Thanks for the video. I was getting quotes for $500 plus to change it. Cost me $80. Question though. I switch the cartridge. I can't even turn the old one by hand but the unit is still buzzing. To the point you can hear it up stairs. Think the motor is shot?
How do you stop the ;motor from making a loud noise when it runs. I have secured my pipes to stop vibration and the pump is installed according to your instructions but when it runs, it still makes a loud noise. I returned my first one and got a replacement. Still the same thing.
The cartridge costs as much the pump. Not simple, you have to drain the system to service the pump if there are no isolation valves. Then you have to bleed the system properly so your cartridge doesn't fail again. The 007-5F I just replaced had Allen head screws.
With the price difference on the 007 pumps being so small ( 70 for entire assembly and 60 for the insert ) is there a way to be certain that its the insert and not the housing? For my ase after watching this i think its likely the insert, mine does not move freely at and and does not slide into place i have to force it in and out of the housing.
The pump will be very HOT. The noise is usually a high pitch while the motor is trying to run. The easiest way to tell is measure amp draw of the motor while it is running. If the cartridge is going bad, the motor will need to work very hard to turn the impeller and the amperage will go up much higher than what is on the name plate (about .7 amp I think). probably will go up to about 1.5 or more. Its an easy fix. You can get the cartridge online for around 45 bucks.
Ten years ago, today the cartridge is $135, same as the price of the pump, what a joke. If you have to drain the system, might as well replace the entire pump.
If it uses the flange housing like depicted in this video its almost as easy to replace. Save the money and DIY rather than paying a plumber 100$. There should be 2 ( maybe 3 ) wires you will need to disconnect and 4 bolts. Turn off the water and the power first, drain of possible if not have some towels around the area. Take the small green screw off the pump housing ( its likely the only philips / flat head screw on the pump housing ) disconnect power. Then take the bolts off that are on the flanges. If its your first time plan for about an hour job and take your time. Its not hard but just like anything else around the house be careful and don't lose the parts :) Also take note of polarity on the wires.
Ok I actually have a better question now...according to my mother (who has never brought this to my attention before) our "repairman" has been replacing our pump every year for the past couple of years. Apparently he must not be doing something correctly, for I am sure these pumps should be lasting longer than a year. Do you have an idea why these would be going bad so quickly?
Where online can i find a replacement cartridge? I'm looking and looking with no luck for those replacement parts. Mine makes a buzzing sound so I know it's definitely gone bad. It's the last thing I need for my system and I'm tempted to just buy a new unit all together..
DjSmooth NY The price has always been the same as the entire cast iron pump for basic models, but if you want one anyway, the cartridges can be found at plumbing supply stores and on-line. The part number is 007-042RP for 1/25HP cast iron pumps, 007-045RP for 1/25HP bronze pumps, 007-063RP for 1/30HP rotated flange 007-F7 pumps. Replacing the rotor cartridge changes the bearings and impeller, but doesn't change the motor windings or the phase split capacitor. Replacing just the rotor assembly can be cost effective for premium priced high performance pumps or for pumps with bronze or stainless castings or integrated controls.
Maybe someone from Taco would like to explain why the replacement cartridge a) is near impossible to get & b) usually cost as much as or even substantially more than, the entire pump?
Jerseyhighlander the cartridges are available on eBay and other places I just checked so why you say near impossible to get? Cost yes they are close to the cost of entire pump which is plain stupid I agree but you can readily find the cartridges
Same with the price for the repair kit for their 500 series zone valves, the kit in some cases is twice the price of the valve body and power head combined.
how do you know when the cartridge has gone bad? I have the same taco circulator and lately its been making a LOT of vibrations at night when the heat is not on. Please help, thank you
Hello. Is the circulator pump considered to be a automatic water feeder as well? Unsure what I'm looking for in my new home. I have no sight tube nor knowledge if I must manually fill with water or if it feeds through this pump mentioned? please respond as soon as possible. thanks.
Hi, i can't seem to find anywhere that sells the casing gasket for a reasonable price. some places asks for $30 it! the cheapest is around $15. is that the best i can do?
786otto that's what I was wondering, sometimes it doesn't pay to repair it if it's actually cheaper to replace the whole assembly, though it seems a waste
I simply had a leak in mine, and was going to replace the o ring seal, but Taco charges a premium for replacement o rings. Their kit includes two sizes because they had two differing sizes in their manufacturing run for the same model, and don't sell them individually. As it turns out, the mounting plate developed a concavity that prevented it from developing the required pressure on the o ring, so a replacement seal was not needed. I just flipped the plate around and it seals up properly now, though I should have flattened the plate instead, as it's putting more pressure on the insert than necessary.
I work for NYC parks Dept and found one of these in my park..Brand new still n the box...Just wanted know what it was ..#googlegotmehere..p.s we find all kinds of things in park lol
Every year? Something is definitly very wrong. They should last quite a few years, posibly decades. Either there is alot of air getting into the piping system or a very bad head pressure problem. If the head pressure is high, it will cause the pump to work VERY hard and over heat causing premature failure. Read my blog. @ comforttechnj.blogspot

how do you bleed the new pump install??
How do you know what to replace? Cartridge? I have a pump, doesn't work anymore. Thx

If the pump went out would it Will cause the burner to the hot water heater keep from coming on?
how can i know if the circulator pump is working or not?
Very helpful video, thank you very much for posting it here on YT!
How do you tell if its the cartridge that's failed or if its the windings around the cartridge?
It's a simple motor. Only the cartridge moves.
@@eclipse5393The rotor that drives the impeller spins inside the cartridge. The field windings can fail inside the housing.

does the gasket come with the cartridge kit? is it the round one that is shown with the kits? thank you
Thanks, I took one out and didn't see how it was installed. This really helped.

Question. Where can I get the cartridge?? Also I can get the whole unit for around $49. .

where can i purchase the repair kit and the seal? I have a couple pump the repair. please direct me to a place in queens NY for the kit.
The video shows how to replace the cartridge. How do you replace the entire unit? Is it difficult?

Do not forget you have to bleed the air out of the system when your done. That is a pain in the ass

My motor heats up really bad after working for about 5mins. To the point you cant even touch it. Do I need a new motor?
My unit does the same thing. I do not see a reply to your question but I am guessing it needs that new cartridge. There is nothing else that can wrong
Hi, i can't seem to find anywhere that sells the casing gasket for a reasonable price. some places asks for $30 it! the cheapest is around $15. is that the best i can do?
Yep.
And how much is the cartridge?last time I checked it was more than whole calculator.
