Liz my RV friend who does outstanding videos on what new buyers should do!!!!!!!
Don't just get EYE candy inside, look how
The frame is built. How much is hanging behind the back wheels, saw one of your videos with a person that had a kitchen layout behind the back wheels. Think about that Wt#. Is it not better to have your lighter bedroom set up there. I look at (Airstream) for example, they put jacks on forward and back on SMALLER models
This is NOT for changing tires. This is for stable inside when at the RV site. The videos Airstream puts out, the guy TALKED through the whole walk around, very knowledgeable. He new his stuff. The roof Design of an Airstream has no roof corners to start leaks. The AC probably has the aluminum bent up to prevent water in the roof hole. But for the smallest Airstream you pay between
$65 to 80 thousand. Most buyers are NOT willing to spend that on a small Trailer. Just please RV buyers look at how the frame is built, what SMH tires SMH with trailer. Don't just focus on the inside layout. And most importantly like You so Brilliantly said get the walk around with new that has a very knowledgeable tech.
Airstream offers a look and ask questions on every aspect of their trailers before any MONEY changes hand. I don't work for Airstream, but I sense being a small child
Have always been impressed with them.
Like boats look at the build quality of say a Bayliner versus a Larson. Small fishing boats built of Aluminum are rivet or welded hulls. Keep up the good fight, YES
The builders must build strong support for all that goes into the inside body. 😊
Once a dealer gets the money, the customer is forgotten! They don’t care!
Sure hoping to change that, especially by highlighting the GOOD dealers next time. Thanks for watching.
The dealers care very much after your purchase.. They really care that they don’t see you again until you want an upgrade..
Have experienced great things with Northwood Mfg and Arctic Fox. Outdoors RV is the sister company. Both made in NE Oregon. They build a quality product. Do NOT buy junk. If boat manufactureres built their products like most RV manufacturers most would be sunk on the bottom.
Oh wow did you nail the issues right between the eyes! Way to nail it Liz!! Our dealer in Sioux Falls, SD had a top notch salesman. He had been an RV Tech for 20 years and had just become a salesman. Once we paid, he was no where to be found. When we picked up our unit, it was by appointment, we expected him to greet us, thank us, and walk us through our "new" rig that he got the commission for by selling it to us. The guy who walked us through had knowledge, but not nearly what our sales rep had. We had a couple of technical questions over the next few days. NEVER, did they answer or respond to us. They didn't have our phone number or email blocked maybe, but they sure wouldn't answer when we called. On the bright side, ours must have been built when they knew what they were doing and cared. Ours is a 2009 Montana 3000RK, 36' long. In the 2+ years we've had it, we have gone over 20,000 miles on the worst roads America has to offer. My wife rode in it on smooth and horrendous roads videoing what the unit goes through. We think it is almost a miracle nothing has broken or shaken loose, that is how well our unit is constructed. Thank you for your work, but please, once in a while post your adventures too. :-)
Wow, thanks for you kind words, Dex! Sorry your experience (unfortunately) mirrors what so many others are saying in the comments. Glad that you got a good trailer over all!!!
I have a friend whose husband is a lead school bus mechanic.....andxthey do have issues. Ya need a can opener to work on wiring issues! They are difficult to say the least, and Triton V10 motors have issue too!
Wow, I didn't know this.
I’ve seen you develop into a world of knowledge for the concern of others. For that I salute you.
Thanks Cleo, glad to have you here! And also thanks for moving me closer to 100k!
According to another video on YT, 7 out of 10 trailer frames will break because they are barely able to handle the weight of an empty trailer, let alone a loaded one on a rough road! They are undersized, as light as possible so a 1/2 ton pickup can tow them. That to me is unexcusable! The frame should be rated and built to handle the load as well as rough terrain.
Yes, indeed! It absolutely should. We as buyers need to push back. Thanks for watching
Idk......if I was an RV dealer, I would be sending an inspector to the factory to inspect every unit being sent to me and wouldn't let it leave until every discrepancy was fixed.
Yeah, or refuse delivery of a unit if it's not right. Thanks for watching.
Any US built RV imported into Australia, the first thing the new owner does is change the suspension and axles, otherwise they just break very quickly here.
Good to know. Thank you for your comment, Catherine, and for watching.
Agree with all of this. RV’s are just an object to build a financing scheme around. Higher quality would obviously increase prices. I can promise you an auto worker is making more than one in the RV factory. As for 7:04 Toyota killing the Big 3? They did it by offering higher quality at lower prices. That’s not what would happen with foreign built RV’s. They’d cost more than the cheap US stuff. The other issue is corporations/umbrella companies. The way they deal with competitors is to just buy them out. They don’t need to offer a superior product. Nothing of quality comes out of Elkhart. Same parts, crappy Lippert frames, and the same workers/“culture”. The only differences are the exterior graphics.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. Tune in Friday for more good stuff. Thanks for watching.
This video reminds me of when Alan Mulally took over as CEO of Ford and people asked him what he knew about the automobile industry. I believe Alan’s comment was “An automobile has about 10,000 moving parts, right? An airplane has two million, and it has to stay up in the air." The RV industry or a top-tier manufacturer needs to learn how to increase quality for a product that rolls down the road.
Yes, they sure do, Darren! Thanks for sharing your story. I know it has helped many.
Awesome info.
Thanks Bob, you kicked the series off and it's been going gangbusters ever since. Good luck to you in November.
I would buy an RV from the pawn shop before I bought one from an American dealer.
There are GOOD RV mfrs and dealers out there. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching.
You better be given the top tech if you're paying north of $50k. I mean this guy paid 160K+.
Yep. Thanks for watching.
This video needs to go viral! Send a message to the manufacturers , junk will not be tolerated
It does! Feel free to share this, Wayne, that will help it. Thank you so much!!!
It’s about time someone stands up and says something enough is enough! Thanks for doing this series Liz.❤
People need to vote with their dollars that is the way to get their attention.
You are so welcome! Thanks for being here though thick and thin!
Liz, you are doing a huge service. The RV Wingman is on a parallel course. Thank you both.
Yep, the more people sounding the alarm the better! Thanks for watching and stay tuned.
Yep, between Liz and Wingman words should get out pretty fast. At the very least, buyers are becoming educated and responsible negotiators.
@@ONightbird thanks for the mention of my husband the Wingman 😊
Liz is doing and awesome job! Thanks for mentioning my husband the Wingman 😊
I’ve been saying this for years.
We need to push for Lemon Laws on RVs.
As they’ve pushed the prices up above actual homes, they haven’t been held accountable
💯THIS+1000000 💯
Yep, there are some but they vary by state and are not very strong. Thanks for watching, Kris.
Thank you Liz. You are doing an awesome public service, exposing the sloppy manufacturing of these RVs. And the dealers, seeming to pretty much hide all these problems with their very poor customer service. Thank you Liz for putting in all this time and effort
Thanks so much for your support, Kathleen! I am so glad you are here.
I’m don’t see a school bus falling apart.
Good point.
Yep, those sure do last forever. Buses, too.
School buses don’t have bathrooms, bedrooms, full kitchens and living areas. Plus they don’t have the amount of electrical running through them or plumbing running through the floors and walls. It’s just a bunch of seats bolted to the floor. The outside of RVs typically aren’t the thing that falls apart it’s the inside. The problem is, RVs need to be light enough to tow or for the engine powering them, but also sturdy.
School buses get regular servicing and daily troubleshooting..
The industry needs more regulation..no regulation leads to poor quality plan and simple..money money money😮
You’re getting close to 100k. You have a great and very informative channel.
Thank you so much, Carl. Yes, getting closer every day!!!
This new series is starting to get real juicy!😂
Glad you think so, Stephanie!!
I love this series. This is exactly what the RV community needs! Keep going Liz.
Thanks so much for your support, Robert. Feel free to share this video.
Very well said Liz! This is why I own a Taylor Coach travel trailer here in Ontario, Canada. Actually, my second one from them. They have been around since 1967. Their trailers are not “slapped together” on an assembly line, but built one at a time with pride and many years of experience with wonderful customer service. Trust me, I go to many RV shows and see the RV’s falling apart at the show before the customers even get their investments home.
This is such great information, thanks for sharing, Dave!
Want to save some headaches? Two suggestions when purchasing: DO NOT allow them to hurry through the initial walk-through and checkout. If it takes less than 6 hours you are overlooking things. Have a notebook, pen, flashlight, and your phone (camera) - document everything that's not right. If you can't get down on your knees at least 50 times - take a friend.
Secondly, when you leave with the unit, take it to a nearby RV Park and spend at least one night and check everything in great detail before you leave.
Good tips. Thanks for this!
I'm driving a 2020 f350 crew cab diesel I bought new. We had plan to RV in our retirement, we walked away from the whole ideal because I worked to hard to had over 100k for the pile of Junk we were seeing. You are exactly right and I admire you for taking them on! I love watching your channel.......stay safe and take care!
Thanks Magnum. I believe that was your comment that I quoted in this video. Thank YOU for contributing to the channel, I really appreciate you!!! And I understand completely about walking away from that deal. I am hoping this series brings much needed change! See you in the next video.
Hey Liz, you are doing an awesome job and you are absolutely right. If we as consumers continue to tolerate this type of service and poor construction, then we are going to have no one to blame but ourselves. My husband and I were brand new campers and bought a 2018 forest river fr3 used motorhome Just about a year ago. My husband, who is very mechanical, had questions that the person who did our walk-through could not answer, and we actually wound up having to find out a lot of stuff on our own. The dealer tried their best, but it absolutely fell short. It wasn’t only with the motorhome it was also with some of the perks they offered like a free year of RV LIFE pro that we couldn’t get to work for more than six months because they entered our email address wrong and no one could seem to get it fixed. Silly little things That just put a bad taste in your mouth. And although the dealer was very happy to sell me, the forest river, FR3, their main campers that they sold for grand design so as far as service, it is nonexistent. There is a forest river dealer in our state (Connecticut,) and they are about an hour away, and even though we are willing to go up there to have certain things addressed, they won’t deal with us because we didn’t buy our motorhome there. So ridiculous. Not only have they lost a customer for life but I won’t even get accessories from them because of their Attitude. You keep doing the service you are doing because those of us out there really need it and really appreciate your fight. Give them hell Liz!
Hi Linda! Thanks so much for cheering me on. So sorry you had a bad experience with your dealer. It really should be like the car dealers where you can take your RV anywhere. You'd think smart dealerships would not turn away any business. Hoping things change for the better soon. Thanks again and stay tuned.
Yes! Absolutely! RV buyers need to stand up. We've been looking at some used smaller class Cs lately. It's amazing how many dealerships will not allow outside inspectors or even charge the customer to allow an outside inspector to check out a vehicle. That's ridiculous! We stop and leave at that point. We've been told some inspectors come in and rip the RV a part. We've heard this more that once. Apparently if that's the truth, the dealership isn't smart enough to put a policy in place to prevent that from happening. Something as simple as requiring a photo ID and credit card number from an inspector for any damages they might cause. With a before and after video. Please. People just want to know what they're paying for prior to buying. Just what are the dealerships hiding?
Wow, I had not heard of dealers banning inspectors. And nothing at all about inspectors trashing a rig. Sounds like the dealers are just scared. Thanks for watching and for your comment, Charlene.
@@LizAmazing You are very welcome, Liz. Thanks for all your important and informative content. We all appreciate you.
There used to be many more quality high-end RV manufacturers in the Motorhome and 5th Wheel Space - Country Coach, Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Foretravel, Teton Homes, Peterson Industries, Forks RV, Carriage, and so on...They are all gone because of pricing and/or the great recession!! Yes, some of those brand names exist as former shadows of themselves. Monaco's were quality through 2007 - not anymore!! Foretravel quality from 1990-2005 (2009-2012 also) is legendary - what is a Foretravel now!! It costs too much to make a quality RV product; which is why so few are made. Grand Design and Forest River Legacy are NOT high-end, just pretenders. The only quality high-end 5th Wheel is New Horizons RV and they are $310K plus/minus 10%. Everyone knows what a Newell and a Prevost Conversion are - simply not affordable for mere mortals!! Newmar makes the best quality Motorhomes under 1million - they still have issues, atrocious wiring being one!! Consolidation in the RV industry has also lowered quality. Jayco and Tiffen had good reputations - as part of Thor - people now know to run away!! Sorry - it simply isn’t possible to make a quality reliable product at a price-point that consumers are willing/able(?) to pay. The vast influx of new RVers during COVID exposed the buying public to the truth about RV manufacturing and quality - 💩💩💩
Yep. Hoping things get better soon. It is too bad that so many of the good dealers went out of business back then. Many of those brands you listed are still getting a pretty penny on the resale market. Thanks for watching, Mikey.
Great information Ms Liz as always. Wow, 96.6k you are almost there. Keep up the great work and hope to see you at TCC someday. Take care and safe travels...
Thanks Bubba! Hope you are holding down the fort in TC! See you next time.
We bought a brand new 2019 Heartland Prowler in August 2019. When we got to the dealership, they knew we were coming because we called them beforehand. There was so many things that needed repaired on this brand new camper. Our first mistake was going later in the day! We was rushed and didn’t take the time we needed to go over the camper like we should have! The dealership obviously didn’t do any inspections on it. We stayed there for hours even after they closed trying to get the little things “fixed”. Our second mistake, we should have had a inspection!! We decided to go camping the next weekend near where we bought our camper. Good thing we did, because we found a bunch more problems with it. We even called the dealership that weekend cause we had water leaks, lights not working, our dinette was failing apart, and so on! They did send a couple of guys out to work on the problems, but some needed more repairs than they could do, so the next week, we had to take the camper back to leave it there for more repairs!! A few months later, we had a manufacturer default which caused a water leak in our front storage. So back to the dealer again! It took 6 months to fix!!! So our 1 year warranty, ran out while it was still being repaired! Everything in the storage compartment was ruined and the manufacturer told us, oh well, not our problem!!! 🤬🤬🤬 I asked them for at least a 6 month extension of our warranty, they said they would get back with us in a few days! THEY NEVER Called back!!! Heartland campers should be called Heartless Campers!! Stay away!! My final thoughts: ALWAYS record the walk through!! We had to have a second walk through because the first was so rushed, we couldn’t remember everything!
There needs to be a law to make warranties last much longer.....can openers have a one year warranty ....but an expensive RV??? That is criminal!!! RV companies need to step it up!!!
Wow, so sorry you went through this, Lynn. What an ordeal. Thanks for sharing your story as it is sure to help others.
Please be advised that the warranty period is tolled (the clock stops running) while the vehicle is in the shop being serviced. So if your vehicle is in the shop for thee months, your warranty expiration date is extended by three months.
@@Milesco is that something new? Cause we wasn’t given any of that information!
@@lynnfiegl4953 No, that's been the law for as long as I can remember. This is why it's important to know your rights, because a sheisty RV dealer sure ain't gonna tell ya!
As to buying new right now, I just purchased a brand new travel trailer (2024) manufactured by Northwoods manufacturing. This was my 4th RV in 33 years, and I was blown away by the quality of construction and detail in this unit. The tech that did the walkthrough was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out every small detail. On delivery it was the cleanest and best prepped unit I have purchased so far. Northwood builds their own frames which is a plus when I see on various channels how many people are having frame issues with their Grand Designs, etc.
I've heard good things about Northwood for sure. It may be an advantage that they are not built in Elkhart, either. Congrats on your new purchase, Dale and thanks for watching!
I had a Lance camper. Same experience. Excellent build quality overall.
Agree on Northwood! Night and day difference from my first Elkhart trash heap.
I've owned 4 RVs and will never purchase another one, even when I'm tempted now and then. They are built as cheaply as possible. Even top-end ones like Tiffin (I've had 2) had issues. I don't mind significant things (like maybe an electrical bug that needs to be fixed) or a small plumbing problem. What I don't grasp is how certain things are missed. Over 10 years ago, I had a brand-new 2010 Phaeton diesel pusher ($220k) that made a weird sound as I backed into the driveway. Every time, same scraping noise (dealer found nothing). After about 2 months, I stood outside to see where it was coming from while a tech backed it up. The passenger-side tire was rubbing against the body when the wheel was turned. I had a Tonka truck when I was little that did that, but can you believe that a manufacturer would release a vehicle from production where the tire didn't clear the body? I had seen enough after my 4th RV (across 3 brands). I sold at the height of the price boom in 2021 and got out of it (thankfully).
If you love camping, go to a campground and rent a cabin. You walk away and nothing is your headache and you still get the camping and nomadic experience. For what I spent in maintenance and repairs, etc., I could have done 2 or 3 Hawaiian vacations! Don't get me wrong. I understand the lure of RVing. It was fun packing up and going with my nieces and nephews and seeing new things, but it's just not worth the money hemorrhage. When they build one with a real roof, I might consider it again, but it'll be a long time and take a lot of convincing to get me back into one.
To be fair, my experience with my first RV (a Winnebago) was horrible. Camping World service was non-existent. We even laughed at how bad it was. Thankfully a Winnebago rep was assigned my case and did a re-walkthrough and recommended a Winnebago dealership in PA (2 hours from me) to fix it. I built a relationship with them on my next coaches and their service department was top-notch. In fact, their lead tech won an award from RVIA in an RV technician competition where they had to diagnose issues. Go to Tom Schaeffers in PA if you want real service. It's still expensive (and I still think RVs are junk), but their service techs know what they are doing. RV always came back in better shape than when I dropped it off and they didn't lie to you. If something was wrong, they fixed it. I never heard "yeah, they all do that" or "you should see what we saw on this other one". They treated you like a real customer at Tom Schaeffers.
I just like watching you talk. You have Amazing eyes.
Thank you for this video , 100% accurate and correct. Customer service is not a priority at most all dealers. It’s pitiful ! Way too many buyers have been screwed over by unscrupulous dealers .
Liz, you always put out such great information! Thank you very much . Keep up the excellent work. 😉
Thanks Kevin! I sure appreciate your support. Feel free to share this video and thanks for watching.
Need a few class action suits against these rv dealers!
They definitely need to do better! Next video I will be highlighting the GOOD dealers. Let's send them more business. Thanks for watching, Holly.
This will only line the pockets of lawyers and increase RV prices. Instead hire a lawyer pro bono so they get paid only if you win the case.
@@thetube007 bad publicity will be the death of these manufacturers!
@@thetube007a pro Bono attorney is one who works for free. You might be able to find an attorney to take a case on a contingent basis (they receive a portion of what award you get). However, litigation is expensive and time consuming. Most attorneys will charge an hourly rate with a sizeable retainer to bring a lawsuit against a dealership or manufacturer.
Thank you for doing this podcast, Liz! So much has gone downhill since my husband and myself starting camping a long, long time ago ... we have had RVs (a few), Class A, Class C and Pop-ups in that time. We just traded in our 4 year old larger RV for a smaller brand new RV - this is another story that I won't get into, but my question is: "what do you do when you have a seasoned person who does the walk through with you, taking copious notes about what we observe needs to be done to make it camping-ready, and then NOTHING was done by the Service Dept. when we picked it up". Stupidly we trusted that all was well when we took it home - not so! Luckily, my husband is handy and fixed most of it himself. Poor workmanship (the water pump lines were put in backwards), poor administration, awful customer service by the Dealer. This will be our last RV so once we give it up, we will not have to go through this again. For the next generation, I hope that the Dealerships and the Manufacturers take copious notes!!!
Yes indeed. I hope they are watching this video series. For what happened to you, I would leave an online review on Google of that dealership telling what happened. So frustrating. My next video will be about GOOD dealers. By highlighting the good, we reward them with more business. Happy travels to you and thanks for watching.
The biggest problem with these dealers is they hire the cheapest mechanics and technicians to save money and then you get a crappy product that rolls out crappy
Yep. And mfrs, too. Thanks for watching, Leonard! See you in the next one.
@@LizAmazing This comment is not fully accurate---the main issue is the amount of qualified mechanics available. I have spoke with a few dealers and service centers that say the are offering top dollar to get the best mechanics---they are just few and far between since covid.
Lizz you are putting some exalted content out on RV’s!
Thank you so much, feel free to share this, Brent! See you in the next one.
It's not just the RV dealers being this way, car dealers get away with sucky practices like this. I bought a brand new 2021 Kia Soul and it clearly didn't have any kind of thorough PDI, the horn didn't work at all and no one informed me of that until AFTER I did all the paperwork to buy it. I didn't have a working horn or lock beeper for the first 2 months I owned the car, which has potential to be hazardous! Also they really rushed me through all the details about owning and operating the car, like how an RV dealer sends out a newbie. At least cars are a lot simpler than an RV.
Wow, so sorry. I would have assumed a new car would have been perfect. I hope you have all that behind you now. Thanks for watching
I have a 2004 Hurricane one slide out 28,000 miles new tires. It has some age of course but over all in very good condition. Anybody have any info on this motorhome?? I'm hoping I can get a Stabilizer in the front (while you drive).
Four winds
Go to the Facebook group for your make and model and you'll find lots of info. Thanks for watching, Deb!
Until the dealers have THEIR pockets affected...will the industry change. My husband and I have NEVER had a walk through with a tech that knew more than my husband and I. They won't fix ANYTHING until you give them the $.
Yep. Sure hoping by shining a light on the good AND the bad, that we can help bring change to the RV industry. It sure is much needed! Thanks for your comment, and for watching.
You brought up Japanese Quality, and then there was a shift to quality by Ford by end of 80s into 90s… what both had in common was Edward Deming… they both followed Demings 14 points… I was a quality engineer in the 90s and Demings 14 points was mandatory compliance in our organization… these principles are missing in the RV industry.
I wonder if he bought from a national Rv dealership like Camping World or Bish’s? I bought mine from a family owned Rv dealership, Rich & Sons in Grand Island, NE. When I have an issue they get me right in and get it fixed and go over the repairs with me.
Yes, I'm hearing good things about smaller dealerships. But in Darren's case he did buy from a small two-dealership that is family owned. Thanks for watching, Suzanne. Stay tuned for next time where I talk about the GOOD dealers!
There is little to no money in customer service. Lemon laws need to be applied to RV’s just like cars. However, the RV industry spend big bucks making sure state legislatures do not pass such legislation. It’s all about money.
Lemon laws do apply to RVs but they vary by state. The RV industry definitely needs their feet held to the fire and start doing MUCH better. Thanks for watching.
If you want the worst service in the industry, buy your RV from La Mesa RV!
Just saying.
Oh my goodness. Thanks for this!
As someone who has zero interest in RVs, I watch all your videos and thank you for the superior content. I'm ready should a friend need RV advice!
Thank you so much! I am glad you're here!
Not a chance I am buying a new or covid baby rv, my next will be 2018-19 and I will upgrade and learn to repair anything I want.
Yep, older is better for now. Thanks for watching, Eric.
everyone who ever did the research knows the older rvs are built better so there is no excuse for them making rvs that last and dont fall apart. I often wonder why they cant make a roof that does not have to be weather treated each year or they leak.
Yep. The older ones ARE better. Hoping that the industry starts making good quality. Thanks for watching.
Sounds like you are almost better off buying a used RV that was built before the quality issues became more widespread. They also should have a Carfax like system for RV’s that have a searchable VIN or the equivalent that tells you the histoey of the unit.
Yes indeed. Used is definitely better these days. And it would be great to have something like an RVfax, maybe somebody will create one! Thanks for watching, Katherine!
Liz, I'm sure all these dealers hate you, you are doing a great job keep it up.
Yeah, I know. I need to change my number! Thanks for watching and for your encouragement!
Some of these dealers are good but some are scumbags. The ones near me here in Ocala FL I would never go near them. I have heard from people that go there, make a deal and then try real real hard to get OUT OF THEIR OFFICE They start adding on and adding on and adding on Money and if they are smart, they leave. A friend of mine went to General RV They had to threaten to call the police to get his keys to his motor home back. Another was going to buy a trailer on Us 27 (cant remember the name) and they left b/c of add ons, they went to Jacksonville got the same unit for 20 K less. Now that really sucks. Wish I remembered the name.
Sounds like a bunch of sharks down there. Buyer beware for sure. Thanks for your comment.
It's bad Karma for bad RV dealers. Period. The industry will suffer because of their greed. Good people who work hard for their money and their RV dream, don't deserve that shit. Expose the bad ones gf! Spill the tea Liz. Yeet!
Yes indeed! Looking forward to rewarding the GOOD by shining a light on them here. thanks for watching, Wendy, and stay tuned!
Very good advice. The problem with rv is that they are not regulated. They have no accountability. And today generation's mentality is nothing like the old days. I could go on.
Yep. You and I could sit by the campfire and have a good chat about this! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
THEY have your money, THEY dont give a crapp..
Compare the cost to a Air plane is the way to look at it, 500k, plane it has one problem people die, 500k motorhome you cant even get the dealer to call you back, I had issues with a new 2018, it spent a year at the factory getting fixed, for water damage, when i got it back, more issues, Its like the company's take the money and run, I used it a total of 7 times and got rid of it, and took the loss, its not worth all the stress, and waiting, thank you for bringing this out in the open, hopefully you will get them to change,
Great series. RV manufacturers and dealers don't really care about what you are saying. The only thing that will get changes made is financial consequences. Don't buy them. Launch class action suits.
We need to do all we can to highlight these dealers, both good and bad. Thanks for watching, Chris.
All the dealers care about is the sale
The good ones need to be rewarded. See you in the next video where I talk about specific good dealers. Thanks for watching, Leonard!
Thanks! FWIW, I've been a pilot for almost 50 years and I can tell you that I have often picked up my plane from an A&P mechanic's shop (that cost $10,000+) and found serious problems on my pre-flight inspection and/or in the first minutes/hours of flight. One of the most dangerous things you can do is to fly your plane after an annual inspection or maintenance event. Sadly, this problem of poor quality work is everywhere. (I can't help but also notice that there have been a TON of General Aviation accidents lately...)
I have a Travel Trailer and is nothing but trouble and more trouble. I wanted to get me a Fifth Wheels now my wife don’t want to run her chances.
Yep. I wouldn't recommend buying new right now. Thanks for watching, Jim!
Liz, the solution will only happen when RV owners come together and start complaining to our political representatives to pass safety laws/regulations to hold the RV industry accountable. Some, if not many are potential death traps.
The RV manufacturers also need to hold the dealership accountable for the sale of their RVs. These manufacturers just don’t seem to care or at least not enough to make a difference.
Personally, I don’t think there is a dealership out there that is at least semi-honest with their customers.
One last observation are some of the RV ambassadors who constantly praise manufacturers who are putting out crap. This needs to stop but it won’t. One of my new favorite social media sites is @CrappyRV. Now he is honest about the lack of quality but yet respectful.
Keep exposing these dealerships and manufacturers, Liz.
Thanks so much for your support. There are some dealers doing it right and I look forward to showcasing them in the next video. See you then.
You're confused... The dealers don't care what happens after you pay, and they don't want to know!
I had an incredible camper (first time) buying experience and a very well done walk through at Unlimited RV in Kansas City. Thank you Stacy and staff for an incredible job you all do!
More people should say and share where they had a good experience. Thank you for doing just that.
We absolutely trust Unlimited RV and have always treated us great and we never bought from there. Just went for repairs. I think this series doesn't think of what smaller dealers have to navigate when working with all the manufacturers. Not to mention labor shortages and even having to train new people constantly. I commend Stacy for even doing the interview to share his side. It's always easier to share negative stories but what about the hundreds of satisfied customers that have bought multiple RVs from Unlimited RV. Really disagree with how this is being spun. Thanks for sharing your positive side of things.
It's good to know there are a few people who are on Unlimited's side. No dealer is going to be 100% bad...or good for that matter. @SwitchItUpLife Todd & Sheila: there was no "spin" in this interview. In fact, I took out the most cringe-y aspects of the interview. I even thought of not posting that video precisely because the dealer looked so bad. I'm not out to put anyone out of business. However, it was Stacy and Jason (dealer and service director) who did and said what they did on camera. And truly, there is never a reason to ghost a customer how they did. Shame on them. Hoping they read all the comments on that video and do better. And stay tuned, my next video focused on the GOOD dealers. Thanks for watching~!
As someone who owns a small airplane I can say, you don’t want the RV industry to be regulated like the aviation industry. I understand why it’s so stringent but it’s not practical for RVs. However treating a new RV like a new automobile should be the standard. We see RV dealerships constantly “robbing Peter to pay Paul”. Rather than ordering a part and waiting for it to arrive, they dismantle a brand nee RV to repair another RV. So the RV tech has to repair two RVs. This is one reason that the factory blames the dealerships for problems and the dealer blames the factory. This is absolutely ridiculous and would not happen in the automotive industry.
You got that right. Thanks for this, Scott, and for watching.
Thanks Liz! Since I am fixin to replace our motorhome which, needless to say had a "few" issues dealt with several RV shops, I am looking forward to your next video.
Keep up the good work improving the RV industry's customer service!
Thanks so much, Leon. I sure appreciate your support. Feel free to share this video. See you in the next one.
Hey Liz . We had a house fire. We are looking for a comfortable Rv to park on our lot while our house is being rebuilt.
In KY winters are cold and windy. Is there a camper you can recommend?
Thanks, Charlie
I love what you're doing. The rv dealership needs to step up and do what ryt,I bought a brand new 2022 palomino ss1500 backpack edition 1wk B4 I picked it up I told my agent to check everything n make sure all is good Bcoz I'm 1100hrs away, but I came home disappointed and no help no phn call nothing, in short I'm on my own. BISH'S RV of SALT LAKE UTAH is a bad rv to buy.
I think they use an inexperienced person on the walk-thru on purpose. They'll say, I don't know and I'll have to find out. Of course they never do and your question or problem goes unanswered. Remember, they could be selling used cars the day before.
It shouldn't matter how much you pay for an RV. A $10,000 OR A $100,000 the RV should be ready to purchase. The customer shouldn't be the test person for a bad RV.
After watching a number videos focused on RV Dealers. I am saddened to learn of the direction the industry has taken. This is not an isolated issue , rather a systemic problem that has evolved into business as usual and has become a standard practice. Take Care
Yes, I'm sure hoping by shining a light on this that the tide will turn. Thanks for watching
I started out at the car dealer, doing PDI's for GM. I was given a checklist and became very thorough. Maybe its just me.
I've heard salesmen say: "RV's are driving through a hurricane during an earthquake?" That's a bunch of crap-ola.
Hi lady...very good information....you are correct on all of this subject...thank you ...stay safe...J&A
Thanks for being here. Have a great weekend!!!
"They are rolling earthquakes, of course they're going to fall apart."
Really?
Semi-Trucks are have the same price range.
Do you see Semi-trucks falling apart?
Not going to say how I know this but let’s say I’ve been in every aspect of this field.
The problem with the comparisons to the boat/auto manufacturing industry to RV manufacturing industry is they are not structured the same way when it comes to “ factory to dealer “ responsibilities for sales, service, warranty, advertising, parts, especially the range of dealer cost/incentives to consumer cost etc…
RV dealers do not have it easy when it comes to warranty work nor do they get paid to do it half the time and the way the warranty is setup and allocated times and the wait time just to get answers back from the manufacturer is insane and 98 percent of people in here would close the doors to New Rv sales altogether after 6 months if they had a dealership. It’s a joke -
Quality control from the factory doesn’t exist and if you want to check - do this
Go into any dealership that has a large amount of inventory and most of the time the shipping stickers will be left on the front cap - one of the stickers will be white with the words inspected by “write your name below”
In ten years in the industry (on all ends) I’ve maybe seen that sticker with a name on it 3 percent of the time and I might be stretching that
Also most of this industry is vanguard or black rock and most of this industry is just 2 to 3 max companies for every single aspect
Great info! Seems like it will take time for all the bad RV’s to shake out after the pandemic craziness. I have heard great things about Intex.. Thanks for the info!
Thank YOU for watching!
This has been a complaint for decades and isn't about to change. Best advice I have for anyone wanting to buy an RV,,,,DON"T. You are going to live a nightmare.
I completely agree.
They build homes to withstand earthquakes. They can certainly build travel trailers to withstand…ahhhhhhhh… dare I say, roads?!
…and… wait for it, wait for it, wait for it… they can put a man on the moon…
End of discussion.

All of these stories make me cringe! I am glad I bought a 2001 Monaco Dynasty DP. These were built when quality was an actual competition between the high end builders. I have always done my own repairs because of these dealer repair stories. I have been doing it myself for over 22years, and now have started my own mobile repair business in NW Oregon.
You got the top tech to inspect due to having a youtube channel. These dealers have NO standards & by sending a new person, they have a built in excuse. Maybe the dealers should NOT accept these RV's if they don't want to fix them prior to selling? What needs to happen is everyone contacting their rep/senators and forcing them to write up legislation to protect us OR we vote them out if they prefer to take $ from manufacturer's lobbyist. I agree we need new companies that don't sell to the big boys.
Should go back to when "the customer's always right"
Well said about manufactures doing a better job and consumers not accepting bad quality as “the norm”.
once we allow the foreign companies in from Europe and Japan.....thats the end of these local RV companies...thats why they are not allowed here by their lobbying...
The high-end campers are complex machines with a variety of systems: mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc. It takes a well-trained, experienced technician to fully understand these systems, but there aren't enough of them to go around. Your local RV dealership may not have one of these techs, and if they do, he's booked up for weeks in advance dealing with the poor quality control at the factory. You're more likely to be dealing with a salesman who doesn't know much more about the guts of an RV than you do.
In Denny’s the waitress keeps coming by because you haven’t paid yet.
I don't have that kind of money to spend on a camper( I paid 5 G for mine) but if I did, I would want to speak to somebody that had owned one just like I was buying and see how they liked it! Customer reviews good or bad can save you a lot of money!
KEEP EXPOSING THESE BAD DEALERS.
Thank you, I plan to do exactly that! Thanks for watching
Like Brinkley,The EV Travle Trailers That backs the Travel trailer in the space U don’t back it in.
If you want to see quality builds, just look at any overland trailer that comes from Australia. They are light years ahead of US manufacturers. Same with motor homes/van builds. The small companies that are building high end units are building quality as they know their reputation rides on word of mouth. The Overland Expos, although aimed at a different audience than most RVers, still has a ton of useful info when it comes to looking for quality.
This is good information. Thanks so much. I plan to highlight the good mfrs in an upcoming video. Thanks for watching.
Unfortunately, the quality of RVs from european manufacturers is mostly abysmal as well (former campervan owner from Germany here)
Just have it hooked up at dealership before taking it home thanks much 🤠😅
Yes. Very closely. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Liz! I bought my camper used from camping world. There was quite a few things I had to point out that needed attention. They were all over it until I got to the expensive stuff. They said it was sold as is. A bunch of things I had to fix myself. You know on going things that happen in a rolling earth quake.
Exactly. And they need to build them to withstand driving down the road in them. Like I said in the video, they can build boats and planes to handle rough conditions, just need to do the same with RVs. Thanks for watching.
They don't go through and do a good inspection when they finish building them. They just ship them right out. Even most dealers don't even inspect them when brought into them
Are you hearing of these kinds of problems with Airstream? Or are they now getting slapped together cheaply, as well?
worked for a guy that owned a True Value hardware. back in thr mid 70s. he said the same thing to me, it takes years to build up a business and a good reputation, but only a short time to destroy it!
Its all based upon a bunch of malarky! Never ever purchase an Rv "unless" ypour mad at your money.
An experienced tech should have done the walk thru & had the newbue join so he could learn. This is a classic example of make the sale & then forget about the customer. I probably would have canceled the sale at that point.
Yep. Not a good business practice at all. I'm looking forward to my next video where I showcase dealers who ARE doing it right! Stay tuned, and thanks for watching.
I have a sailboat that's 41 years old, I have never experienced the types of issues that seem to be standard on RVs. This is messed up.
