My grandfather always sang this song, passed away a year ago this month. Miss him. Miss him singing me this song. ❤️ Bless Glen for this beautiful rendition from the past.
My mom used to play her acoustic guitar and sing this song. She was a great singer. Sometimes us four daughters would sing it and other songs with. Don’t know why my brother didn’t, but he never did. Miss you mom 😇🥰‼️
Yes indeed I agree, first recorded in the US - Atlanta Georgia in the 1920s. It featured in Star Trek The Next Generation Season 7, as a lullaby sung to Deanna Troy by her father.
Glen always made every song he sang, just sound glorious.. There will never be another to match him. Just love listening to him. xx His quiet sense of humour was tremendous, just like him. Rest Easy Dear Glen. xxx
My grandmother sang this to me as she would caress my nose to put me to sleep when I was a child. I have looked high and low for this song and I've finally found it. Thank you Mr. Glen Campbell, Rhinestone Cowboy!
WOW! One of the best renditions yet! I was born "Down in the Valley", married my high school sweetheart "Down in the Valley"! One of my favorite songs! ☆☆☆☆☆
My dad would sing this at night when it was bedtime first he would always read a chapter of a book and then end with this song it would always put me to sleep he always made his children safe
My Mommaw sang this song to me while she was rocking me in the swing to put me to sleep. My entire family swears she didn't sing. Only to me, shall this memory be. She died last year.
Have you ever heard him sing Amazing Grace, with his bagpipes on him. If you haven't you should check it out there are a couple of them on RUclips make sure it's the one from his Goodtime hour which was on in about 1967 or 68 it is mind blowing because I've never heard anyone that could play bagpipes like that. In between the lyrics while the music is playing you can see him blowing into the mouthpieces getting them ready and I can watch it over and over and over and over! Rest in peace Glen Campbell! I loved you from the start when I was a little girl.
I too remember Glen Campbell as a 9.yr old watching his show and him playing the bagpipes. He taught himself. He couldn't read.music..my mother came from glassglow. I am drawn to bagpipes. Ive heard very difficult to.learn.he masteredit and amazing grace by Glen on bagpipes is a must see/ listen. RIP Glen Campbell. You are missed!

This was written by a queen locked in the Tower of London. She had been accused of treason, and she was innocent. Locked in prison for 16 years she wrote and sang many songs in her grief to try to convince the king of her innocence.
My mom used to sing this to me when I was little, but she had a verse about sending a letter to burningham jail. Does anyone else remember these lyrics?
This version is very similar to the one my family would sing as a lullaby. Trying to find it on Apple Music but no luck. Can anyone recommend another version?
Friday the 13th brought me here. Unfortunately there's another recording of the song that has the same title under movieclips, and that's the one I clicked on first.

My dad sang this to me and my brothers when we were little. He passed away last year. I listen to this song a lot nowadays.
So sorry for your loss.
Some songs just mean so much to us for so many reasons... Keep listening to this one if it gives you some comfort.
I'm sorry for your loss, but believe me, take solace in the fact that you had a dad that loved you that much. That's something I never had.

I like the Stir Crazy version better, but I'll always be grateful to Glen Campbell for getting Alan Jackson started.
Both versions are very good.

Yes, that’s the last verse in the traditional folk version. Also a verse about building a castle 40ft high.
Wonder what this would have sounded like if Glen Campbell had sung this acapella? He had the voice to carry it.
I love the stir crazy version
Glen Campbell and Ovation guitars.
