Fly Fishing in New Mexico - Rio Costilla River

In this video I land several fish on the grass because my net had a hole in it. This is generally not a good practice, although it did rain heavily throughout the day so the grass was wet and not likely to harm the slimy protective coating on trout skin.

For the best fish handling practice, keep fish in the water when removing hooks. Wet hands before handling, and terra firma is not a friend to the protective slime layer of the fish. Thanks

The Valle Vidal section is open from July through November. Not sure about the regular section of the Costilla.
