Actually Makhachev held his own on the feet with a striker who dominated Max Holloway in striking, one of the best ever. But he is slow like shit, plodding, with AVERAGE striking. That approach of his --- closing his eyes, biting down on his mouth piece, putting his head down, swinging hard to get to his opponent --- you WILL SEE Leon stepping aside and cracking him on the chin or face, repeatedly and after 2-3 rounds, his Thanos like cardio and pressure would be mostly in your head.
PHYSICS says this: if you have a bigger, faster, taller, stronger, more agile, and younger ELITE striker --- with good wrestling himself even if not at the D1 level (MMA is NOT an undergraduate college Division I sport) --- keep punching and kicking you in the head and body, YOUR ENERGY IS ZAPPED AWAY after dozens to hundreds of such impacts.
Beating ELDERLY 37 to 39 year-olds like Maia, Lawler, Jorge, Woodley et al is NOT the same thing as beating contemporary Usman (both Usman & Colby are around 36, going into their twilight MMA years)... and it is DEFINITELY NOT beating taller, younger & faster & stronger & more elite striking guys like Leon or Shavkat...
