Rick James was overlooked on vocals because of his antics, outfits and personality, but the man could blow. As mentioned elsewhere, Fire & Desire is a must.
"but the man could blow..." You mean he *did * blow. Brother did a whole bunch of cocaine/blow back in the day As Rick James has said himself cocaine is one hell of a drug
@@ceannrua No, I said exactly what I meant. If this was a drug story we could go on about it or his very odd sexual behavior, but this is a music video and Rick James can sing quite well with a great voice. "hee hee, I'm funny, I can make fun of dead celebrities because I saw the word blow. Grow up already,
@@ricmotta2495 @ricmotta2495 I was not making fun of dead celebrities or any celebrities. In fact I mentioned Rick James often quoted line about the dangers of drugs. I was commenting on the double meaning of your use of the word blow. So to review unless you are a celebrity and in fact are dead wasn't making fun of a dead celebrity. And as to growing up I'm a Toys r Us kid. 😂🖖🤟
@@ceannrua Fair enough, I did understand the joke. Having seen about a dozen reviews of this and other songs of his, it's pretty sad that most comments about any of his songs is about his drug use or wild behavior. Sadly mostly based from the Chappelle skit, not from Rick James himself. Just a little tired of it. Kinda like even a easy going short guys eventually gets tired of the short jokes. Not your fault for sure, but by replying to me you gave me an opening to vent.
Yes they did have a relationship for two weeks and got engaged and broke it off you just don't know girl i love teena marie she is my girl have every thing from her before her death in 2010 i was so heartbroken cried so much but she has a beautiful daughter name Alia rose beautiful girl looks just like her and she sings to thank you for that beautiful spirit energy you talk so sweet about her rip king of funk rick james and teena marie our ivory queen of soul
Britt, Britt, Britt, Britt, Britt, Britt, the thing anout you, is that you are an obvious vocalist and that you really, truly, deeply and consistently UNDERSTAND the complexties of harmonization. YES, YOU young lady are the ONE that I GO TO, for my depthful, heartfelt reactions, point blank, PERIOD. I enjoy you!!!! OMG.
The answers to all your questions are "yes". Rick and Teena did have a thing. They have a few songs together - the big one is "Fire and Desire - and about each other. Rick also wrote and produced her first album. After that she started writing and producing for herself, but still used Rick's Stone City Band on a couple of her albums.
lovers yes, engaged yes at one point, but she saw how he was with women (womanizer/user of) and decided that wasn't for her. But she realized his genius...he realized hers.....he wrote a lot of material for others that he ended up recording with her voice.....she eventually left Motown because they didn't promote her and she never made any money/they never paid her (landmark legal case of her leaving her label, DO look that up, it was a game changer for ALL musicians) she was godmother to his first son, even with all of his drug convictions (kidnapping and torture of a prisoner with his then wife) she remained his friend and was right there when he got clean, out of prison, got his life together. Their performance at the BET Awards one year was really beautiful....and hilarious.....of course Rick James had the last word there.
I’m driving with my iTunes playing in the background and this was playing and I started paying attention to the words and I had to come to RUclips to see if there was a live video of this
You had to know that was Teena with the extraordinary high notes😁…Yes…Teena and Rick began their “love” in East Amherst NY …recording endlessly in his home studio with Stone City Band…She of course couldn’t and wouldn’t deal with Rick’s “womanizing” and eventually left him and his shenanigans…However, their love and mutual respect remained for their entire lifetime, even though they went their separate personal ways.
I think Teena's song "Cassonova Brown" is largely attributed to her relationship with Rick. And I think they also duet on a later 80s song called "Hey Girl (I got yo number). It's get a more upbeat vibe, a bit more saucy but still a bop. I loved your reaction. :)
Yeah, back in the day, we had the Best Music Ever!...Listen to them separately, Teena don't play, and Rick's albums , both so priceless!!! Dream Maker0 Rick James, Young Love by Teena...
Yes Tina Marie and Rick James did have a thing for years and years they were definitely romantically involved and yes they did appear on a lot of hit songs Back in the Day one of the biggest ones being Fire and Desire
I don't know how you feel about metal music, but I have a little bit of a request for a reaction. A song called "Pisces" by a Russian metal band called Jinjer. Trust me. 🤘🎸💀
You messed the song up by stopping it so much. Especially, the parts where you should have just be listening instead of talking so much. Also, girl where you from, this is no family barbeque music. It's called "Love Making" Music.
this song gets over looked bc of fire & desire but this is my fav duet by him & tina

I love it❤️🔥 absolutely ❤️🔥 beautiful ❤️🔥
This was the hottest thing in 1982..... Hands down nothing could touch it except his rival....Prince. Remember International Lover❤❤❤
It was quite a shame that the persona overshadowed his unbelievable talent . And believe me he had oogobs of talent. Try his song Spacey Love 😍

No Ma’am😁Rick had a 6’ ft tall body, body body🔥…side bar: her name is spelled “Teena Marie”
Songwriting and production is all Rick James! He was untouchable in those days!He also wrote and produced for Teena, but he was his own downfall
Can we just this man rest in power…please
