- 1) Tim Sabean, the new person in charge of the show, has suggested moving the show into the afternoon for no reason, had a problem with them leaving at 10am yesterday and is undermining Anthony. Anthony and Jimmy in particular are furious. Sirius XM as a whole doesn't respect the show at all, they talk about what to do next in their carer.

I was just thinking it sounds like in this whole hour, Opie was playing to Tim. Not like he asked him to listen that day but he knows Anthony won't be at the meeting after the show and Opie is going to open it up by asking Tim if he heard the show this morning. "Hear me this morning? Defended you for an hour and you heard the idiots I have to deal with? That afternoon show is still mine even if Jim and Ant don't sign, right?"

Looking back now, its obvious Opie was the secret reason this kept coming up about the time change.
But its amazing listening to Anthony and Jim argue their points and listening to Opie argue like he's in a completely different conversation.

This is an anachronistic argument because this was the Opie and Anthony show, and you are talking about three separate shows so its simply not a contextual argument. Anthony and Jimmy's whole point was the show missing out on larger audiences by moving to afternoons. They acknowledge waking up sucks but the Opie and Anthony show would work better and have a larger audience by doing mornings. Just because they aren't working to that schedule now is irrelevant because they don't work on the Opie and Anthony show and Anthony does not have to worry about being on the radio in Los Angeles in the morning

For the record, opie even ADMITS later that he did "little to no preparation" for the show outside of the show to sound "edgy" and "cool". Then when boss man is around....he works 3 or 4 hours a day but "takes his work home with him, and pre plans". Literally exactly opposite ideas

Esp when 90 percent of the O&A fanbase says that his success is directly because of the two guys he worked with and now seems to not like. But between the viral video attempts for a decade, saying he could host The Tonight Show, etc, its clear to me that this is a guy that needs to have some type of public presence. He just cant ride off into the sunset with his 10 mil and hot wife and be happy with that. Why do you think he was so jealous of Howard? It wasnt because of Howard's talent or even his money. Never listened to a live Stern or O&A show in years. Every episode I listen to is on-demand. What hour of the day they record it is completely irrelevant to me.
I guess since it didn't apply to you personally, it wasn't a big deal to anyone.
Opie was never planning on splitting the show, he's not that calculating or forward thinking. When Ant got fired, Opie took the opportunity to cut out/sell out Ant and try to shine as "the big star all by his self finally!" Fortunately he failed spectacularly and the show became garbage right after Ant's departure.
You’re spot on about the latter part of your comment, but that little weasel always planned on splitting/ending the show.. He even admitted it during the infamous “grape” fight that he and Ant had on air.. He was, is, and always will be the biggest piece of garbage, pathetic, douchebag, in the history of radio..

I will say this for the Ol' Opster. Egging Anthony on and playing that side made for damn good radio.
I never could understand why Howard hated them so much. I'm convinced he's the reason they lost their syndications on terrestrial in 09. Then the sorry conditions they were kept in after the merger.
O&A was Howard's #1 rival. People can say it was Don Imus, Mancow or Mark & Brian but those guys were his enemy. Howard hated them and O&A hated Howard. That's an interesting theory about Howard possibly being responsible for O&A being taken off terrestrial radio while at XM in April 2006 to March 2009. I believe Stern went to CBS and told them to stop broadcasting their show on terrestrial and they did and CBS came up with a dumb excuse that ratings were the cause of it. O&A were gods at XM and competed with Howard big time when he went to Sirius. Once the merger happened, it's obvious Howard got more respect than O&A. The first half of the show was heard in 24 major cities on terrestrial radio before they transitioned to XM. What a shame they got screwed over.
Howard “hated” every other show that was vaguely similar to his. Howard silenced them the same way he silenced anyone else that worked at the same company as him. The rivalry was much bigger in opies head than anyone else’s.

Opie was much more invested in the feud than Howard was. The only thing Howard actually did to them was stop them from talking about him on their show when they both worked for the same company. There’s no way howard went to cbs and even if he did there’s no way they would have listened to him if o and a ratings were good. I love the show too but terrestrial radio was going in a milquetoast direction that didn’t fit oanda

CBS and Stern were at odds with each other especially in the final months when he was on terrestrial radio and then there was that massive lawsuit that happened when Stern wasn't allowed to mention Sirius Satellite Radio on regular radio when it was really about something else
@@Buckets50 O&A could've come back early but that ultimatum from CBS where they weren't allowed to mention prevented that. The gag order if you would. Then the XM Radio opportunity came up and they were allowed to say anything they wanted. Howard kept denying he didn't put a gag order on anyone but then he let it slip during a show on Sirius that he did
I hate that I spent so many years as a stern fan when he constantly shit on the people that made him while O and A during their prime was what Howard could never be.
How did Opie ever get into radio? “Period” “hold on hold on” - all his emotional reactions are cringe. He’s not a writer nor a comedian. I just don’t get it. Anthony and Jim with the occasional great Patrice days made this program. At least Howie knew how to conduct a program and manage a crew (at least from 1989-2009)

They weren't a news show so it wouldn't have mattered what time they were on as it was just about them being funny (well, 2 of the 3 anyway). Satellite radio is kind of unnecessary in the age of podcasts. You don't need them to be on at a certain time, it should be on demand, but clearly in the clip Opie was pushing for afternoons then he got his wish finally. @@paolotarasi3836 I think OnA brought in lots of subs at XM but obviously Stern has a much higher profile and I imagine he brings in way more subscribers overall, hence his bigger contract, but I would've thought that OnA brought in substantially more money than they were paid otherwise it would make no sense to keep them from a business perspective. They should've left to do a podcast, maybe not daily but 3 times a week or something like that. Especially now the ad revenue and things like Patreon would probably be very profitable with few overheads. CumTown podcast makes $40k a month from just donations not including things like ad reads, live shows and merchandise etc and that's 3 relatively unknown comics with next to no profile. With OnA's existing audience plus the fact they could reach people worldwide and not just the US they could've made a very comfortable living and not be stifled creatively. Rogan makes millions a year from what I've read, so does Alex Jones so it's not absurd to think they could have done similar

Doing the morning show is the perfect gig, yeah getting up at 4am sucks, but they come in and hang out for 4 hours talking about what they watched last night and are back home on their couches by 11 am, and they have the whole rest of the day off to do whatever they want. It's the perfect gig, having to get up and not be able to do anything or go anywhere knowing you have to go in to work at 3pm would suck.
I love the podcast idea. That and a good RUclips channel would be amazing
